Reviews of Flashpoint Bristol
M. J.
My first experience of rock climbing, I went with some friends who taught me the basics and some techniques.
It was great fun, took a bit of getting used to at first, but once you get into the swing of it it's very rewarding. Definitely a full body workout, my body was tired after about an 1 hour 20 mins. Almost like a puzzle as part of the challenge is figuring out how to "solve" the climb, of course the other half is having the dexterity to actually complete it!
I'll definitely be coming back soon.

We decided to come for a quick climb while visiting bristol.
There are a number of places to climb in bristol and we were told here was really good.
In terms of the climbing it was good, the are loads of routes and of good range from easy to difficult. I personally found the setting a bit inconsistent. The staff were friendly enough but lack enthusiasm to help or show new climbers the settings etc.
It was not cheap thats for sure, as a guest coming once its not somewhere I will come back to at the cost of a one of trip.
There are lockers but you must bring a padlock, we didnt have one so no way to protect our stuff, this is the kind of information that should be on their website.
That being said, still a fun climb and got a few hours out of it.

I have been going to flashpoint regularly since January and it's probably my favourite climbing gym in Bristol! Really big space, and I find that there's good progression from grade to grade. Staff are always friendly and happy to help.
My only negative would be that the cost for the first visit is more expensive than the ongoing cost. This makes it hard to encourage friends to give it a go as they're put off by the higher price. I am aware that shoes are included in this increased price but there's no option to take off the cost of shoes if you have your own.
Otherwise brilliant, and the membership has really good value if you go regularly:)

Good space and plenty of climbing walls, spread over 2 floors with a walk way for spectators on the ground floor. Didn't feel like I was tripping over someone behind me.

First of all absolutely nothing personal to any staff, or against the gym or anything. I haven't even been, a group of us were planning on going this Saturday, but first visit price is £20 even though we are all climbers, certainly not ego'ing avoiding an induction video or anything like that, the extra £7 is madness and completely unjustifiable if thats a word, especially in these times. Unfortunately none of us are keen, but the place looks amazing so it's our loss. Gutted. Hopefully there is a slight rethink to this business model as I'm sure we're not the first put off. Sorry to the staff member that has to respond to this.
Edit: The entry price is absolutely fine, just that initial first visit at £20 is the heartbreaker. Also will delete as soon as this is (hopefully) changed. I'd probably have spent the extra 7 quid in tea and chocolate anyway!
Edit: So 3 weeks ago I had to leave a 1 star review, I've now just changed it to a 5 star, really pleased you are scrapping the first initial entry price, excellent move and I now can't wait to visit and like I said, I will gladly spend that difference on food and drink anyway. Great move guys well done!

Very good bouldering centre with some excellent technical routes.
I took my boys and they thoroughly enjoyed it.
Not quite five stars from me as the air is choked with chalk dust which staff report that there are and afoot to make the centre chalk free in the future.
It's great to have it so close to home and the it's a great site.

A fantastic destination for the whole family with a trampoline park, 'ninja warrior' style obstacle course, foam-filled pool for leaping into, large soft play area, loads of climbing walls and a great cafe with pool table. For a cheaper outing with little ones, try their 'Puppy Unlimited' sessions on Friday mornings. You get an hour of unlimited trampolining etc, then full use of the soft play as well as arts and crafts in the cafe until 12:30pm!

One of the best indoor climbing centres in Bristol. Friendly staff and good routes. Memberships are great value when you consider you get access to RedPoint as well.

I climb here two or three times a week, they change the routes alot and there is great variety, they also have lots of competitions. The staff are really helpful and friendly and often offer tips if I'm struggling. The cafe is a little hard to find, but worth it once you do!
Having a membership here also allows me to climb at Redpoint in Bedminster and Flashpoint Swindon, which is great if I decide I want to mix things up a bit :)

Absolutely fabulous walls, great staff, lovely café and one of the only walls we've visited recently that charge an affordable amount for soft drinks, thank you
J. B.
First boulder centre I’ve visited in a while that I absolutely loved. Everything was clean and organised. The staff were also very helpful and efficient! The setting here is also on another level with so many different styles to work on. Can’t wait to come back here.
R. M.
Decent bouldering centre and a good range of easier problems when I'm building back from injury, but a bit expensive compared to what I'm used to in Sheffield
F. H.
Great climbs, friendly atmosphere shame the café is a little out of the way and the showers are pretty cold
H. S.
Good modern gym with lots of bouldering. If you are going as a one off when you’re in the area there may be better as they charge you more for your first visit. Think it’s £20 for first time vs £13 for everyone else from 2022, whilst it includes shoe hire if you already have shoes it does feel very steep.

Great bouldering - fantastic layout, very spacious, great coffee, free parking, recommended!

So I went to Flashpoint for the first time. Had very mixed feelings about it. The positives, there was some good route setting, I noticed Jak was setting and I always enjoy his routes. It's big with lots of variety. Theres plenty of parking at the front, and good storage for your bags etc. I particularly enjoyed the routes towards the back of the wall with a mix of quite 3d climbing.
But the bad points for me really brought the place down to the point I won't be rushing back. The routes were absolutely filthy in places - especially the easier routes which were so covered in chalk and rubber dust that it made them substantially harder - many of the starting holds were almost polished making the start disproportionately hard when compared to the rest of the route. The mezzanine slab was fairly featureless and a bit dull. I was really quite dark too, I felt some of the cave areas would benefit from better lighting. It was also crazily busy, although it wasn't hard to find routes to get on. But most of all, it was the grime - the chalk dust and polish on the holds was just mental... I know it's a big wall which I am sure contributes to the problem, but when you compare it to Redpoint which is owned by the same guys, it's a totally different experience which is light and bright and for the most part sparkling clean, and has to be atleast twice the age...

I have only recently taken up bouldering and it is fantastic. Flashpoint is on two floors with a large , varied choice of routes for every skill level. It is situated 10 minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads Station so if like myself you are travelling from another city then it is the ideal location. Recommend.

Great crowd and facilities
Great coffee and pizza.
Lovely staff who put up with stupid parent questions.
S. K.
Expensive but my kids enjoyed it and thats the main thing and has a really gd soft play too
A. C.
Great bouldering centre, so much variety and routes changed often enough that it never gets stale. Staff are very friendly too and have handled the Pandemic well. Also one of the only bouldering centres left to offer punchcards, which are really underrated!
B. A.
Good routes and facilities, regularly re-set. Would give that 4+ stars.
What lets Flashpoint down is the awful homogenous music played far too loud on repeat, they need to find tunes better suited to climbers - its not hard. It doesn't have to be perfect but it does need to be as varied as the problems
J. R.
Really nice bright gym, useful booking system and good practices for covid safety. The problems are tough and generally in more of a comp style. They use coloured holds for circuits, I prefer gyms that use tags as it provides more variation in holds across the grade spectrum. Excellent training facilities, best circuits in Bristol in my opinion, lattice board, campus rungs, woody and gym equipment are all decent. Friendly staff, adequate parking, decent pizza, what more could you want? Maybe air con in summer. Used to be mega chalky but they seem to have fixed that!
l. c.
Great to have this on my side of town, it's brilliant, my only issue is, it's so cold! I've been twice now and the last time I climbed in a thermal top! I was getting really shivery between climbs. The reception staff had coats on so it can't have just been me that was feeling the cold. I usually climb at bloc and have never had this problem before. Other than that I think it's really well set out and a great space to climb in.
M. G. C.
Great climbing, and really big spacious centre
L. C.
Lovely staff, great climbing walls with a lot of variety. Tad disappointed as many members are not wearing masks when walking around, which is required by law, and these people and are not questioned by staff when doing so. It makes others who are following the rules feel unsafe.
N. B.
A bit disappointed with the lack of options for a climber visiting the UK for the weekend. Charged 16£ despite having shoes, an additional 5£ annual registration fee doesn't make sense for a person who doesn't live in Bristol and will likely not be returning within the year. I like the place but not sure I'll return until they change this policy to make it more visitor friendly.
J. C.
Good sized wall, able to accommodate a good number of people without feeling crowded. Good setting too. Really fun place to climb for both beginners and people with experience.
I.
Awesome wall! Came here for blokfest a couple of months ago, and came back about a week ago for a climb. Amazing technical route setting, with a good selection of holds. Layout is amazing as well, perfect amount of comp wall, slabs, general climbing and especially training. Super nice cafe and a fun trampoline park on the side - perfect for little people to go whilst you climb. Overall brilliant experience!
K. B.
A genuinely good wall with amazing hold selection to go with generally good route setting... BUT it's like a sauna in there. The heating needs to be turned off or down because it's verging on unbearable even when it's 5c outside. It's lovely and cool next door in the trampoline area.
E. W.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Great set up with loads of variety for all abilities. Place is huge and we’ll spread out over 2 floors so even when busy there’s always somewhere free. Really nice vibe. Can’t recommend this place enough. Great place to come if you’re thinking of trying bouldering.
S. L.
Good to return to Flash Point since first Lockdown. Great bouldering and good training set up. Well worth a visit but more expensive than TCA.
R. S.
A fantastic bouldering environment.
As someone who's only taken up bouldering since late last year, Flashpoint wasn't the first place that I tried it, but it was the best and the one that I've stuck with. Now I come to think of it, since I started bouldering there I haven't returned anywhere else, the experience is just that good.
If you're thinking of taking up a new sport after Covid-19 loosens it's grip on us, I would highly recommend bouldering at Flashpoint.
M. J.
The fifth indoor bouldering centre to open in Bristol and FlashPoint have managed to match and improve upon all 4 others. A wide variety of climbing problems set on interesting wall contours. Bright, spacious and airy. Incredible sound system. Extensive workout/stretching area. Plenty of lockers. Little foot showers in the washrooms!
l. c.
So impressed with the measures flashpoint have put in place. I went yesterday for my first visit since before lockdown, they have worked really hard to set it up as safely as possible, The booking system works brilliantly to ensure you don't have to worry about it being too busy, there is now a one-way entrance and exit, hand sanitiser stations all around and plenty of cleaning going on! Thank you to all staff for all of your hard work!
L. S.
Nice gym space, great mixture of boulder problems and friendly staff. Cafe serves a damn fine cup of coffee.
N. C.
Great climbing and general facility, but a bit on the pricey side at £11 a session. Food and drinks in the bar are also a little steep. For me, worth it for a long session but less so if you're just popping in after work.
R. M.
First time there with my three children fully enjoyed it the staff was really helpful. And I've never claimed at the centre before but it was really good and my kids enjoyed it. I have climbed before when I was a teenager so i really enjoyed it the only issue ive got the parking spaces
C. M.
This is such an awesome bouldering centre! It's all new, has loads of fun routes and a great atmosphere, with friendly staff. My new favourite wall in Bristol!
J. T.
Dropped a star as indoor temps and connies are a bit fierce, but the ground fans and ceiling extraction helps a bit and does seem to keep the slopers usable. Setting style does tend to be new school comp/parkour which as an outdoor climber I struggle with. Having said that the endurance circuits are a great addition and the space itself is brilliant.
G. J.
Great problems regularly updated, pre-book only at the moment but that suits me just fine. Even though the cafe isn't open right now due to covid, there's a nice selection of iced coffee and snacks to keep your energy up 🍫😁
C. M.
Have not been climbing long but have really enjoyed my sessions at Flashpoint - I started with the taster session and have not looked back since. Great atmosphere & friendly staff would definitely recommend 100%
S. W.
Great facility ! Or will be with a few tweaks,!! Turn the heating off guys ! It's like a greenhouse , not enjoyable at all , heat doesnt work for friction ,like trying to climb in font in August, for anyone travelling by car it's a ball ache ,the car park is a mare as its shared with freedog ,had to wait 15mins on sunday to get a space. I'm sure things will be tweaked as time goes on ,
T. H.
Very friendly, extremely well set up with Covid guidance. Place was very clean, and felt very safe there the whole time. Online booking was very straightforward. Would definitely go again.
A. W.
It's a great bouldering place, but get in quick as it can get busy!
W. T.
Wonderful, spacious climbing venue. Great problems at all grades (up to v10!). Best bouldering in Bristol in my opinion.
f.
Great place to climb, friendly staff plenty of parking for both cars and bike. Missing it over lockdown. Looking forward to climbing again soon!
J. O.
Bristol's biggest and newest bouldering wall. It's an incredibly voluminous space and they've done an excellent job on the layout and design. I'm so stoked to have this in Bristol.
M. K.
Great bouldering gym with a variety of problems for all styles of climbing, only issue was that you need to get unidays or totum for proof to get student discount here, a regular student card doesn't cut it.
R. M.
Lovely clean bouldering wall. Lots of slabs, verticals, a nice arch and a great training area. And a bar with great food. What more do you want?!
D. R.
Great bouldering centre, lots of walls and regularly setting new routes.
F. R.
Really enjoy climbing here, and I'm normally more of a ropes climber, so it's nice to have somewhere where I can enjoy bouldering (almost) as much as ropes!
G. P.
Great setting and a good selection of holds. Certainly worth a visit if you are in town.
J. A.
Wow, flashpoint is a really fun contemporary bouldering centre with loads of climbs for people of all difficulties, it's definitely worth a visit
M. F.
