Great gym, good range of classes, staff friendly and approachable, gym goers seem respectable. I enjoy the classes and have taken advantage of the smart path which is a programme designed to get you to your fitness goals, its great its free with membership. Haven't been in pool area yet but I hear good things so looking forward to it on a not too hot day!

My own experience as a new comer to the gym (I'm a couch potato and up until last week a proud one) was amazing. Walking through the doors at first I was a little nervous but immediately recieved a warm welcome. Caitlin was very nice and was more than happy to show me around, and register me as a member as well as answering all my questions. She is an absolute credit to your team and I'll look forward to seeing her and your kind and professional staff as I begin my gym journey!

Average experience - went for a spa day on Wednesday and was shocked when we had to pay £10 for a ‘spa bag’ which consists of a towel, robe and flip flops. Duncan must be feeling a financial strain as I have never known a spa charge for a towel before! The smaller pool was cold, always remember that being nice and warm, one of the aromatherapy sauna’s wasn’t working and given there’s not much there it was a bit annoying. On a positive - our treatments were amazing! All of us said how good our therapists were, I had Talia and she was brilliant. Afternoon tea was alright, apparently if your package is High Tea you don’t get cake, so we now know never to book that one again! Probably wouldn’t go back anytime soon, which is a shame as it so local.

Lovely gym, staff very helpful and friendly,. Even people who use the gym are friendly and will always help, it's very clean, nice size swimming pool, with steam room n sauna n bubble pool. I love it,. It's busy but not packed.

I booked a block session with a PT (Megan) she is really good, I booked another 10 sessions in. I had gym anxiety (not sure why) but Megan made it an easy transaction for me. My body has changed shape and I'm feeling far better within myself Thank you Megan T

All the staff were very friendly, and easy to chat too. I visit in the morning and generally not too busy . Everything is wiped and double wiped. I love it ,just need to find time to use the pool, lol.

Nice gym, good pool and friendly staff. Could do with longer opening times rather than closing at 8pm or 9:30pm, currently considering moving gyms due to this reason which is a shame.

Well run Club with good facilities and friendly staff . Lots of classes to take part in for all abilities and taste! Very good Gym with Personal Training available and a fair sized Pool with Sauna, Steam Room and Jacuzzi! There's a very nice rest area and thre is good Parking to the front and rear of the building. Free weights area is small but has everything. Plenty of cardio. Pool/Sauna area is clean BUT the pool is normally freezing and the ambient temperature is cold as are the changing rooms and the showers are never really hot. Everybody complains but nothing is ever done.

I have looked at alot of gym,s in Colchester in my opinion this is the best affordable gym in colchester. This gym has everything you need pool, stream room, jacuzzi, sauna.I have noticed a cleaner every time I go and all looks clean all the time. The pool is not cold and gym is never really busy, my last gym was fall of teenagers which made me feel uncomfortable as I am a women in my late 40's and don't have the best looking body. Bannatyne gym has made me feel comfortable. I now look forwards going to the gym.

This is a super facility. The Zumba classes with Laura are friendly, fun and really get you moving.. The gym has loads of space with an excellent range of equipment. The reception team are effecient and very helpful. Yes a super facility.

Great facilities worth every penny

The men's shower floor & walls are well beyond repair and have been so for well over a year. The shower floor is gross due to it appearing to have stale water under the floor tiles. Tiles in the steam room and jacuzzi areas have fallen off & don't get replaced. Gym & domestic staff are all great. Nice members & friendly atmosphere. Weights/fitness area is also very good. Its a shame they appear not to value their customers enough to sort out long standing faults as mentioned above.

Likes to call itself a "Health Club" rather than a gym but... it's just a gym (with a pool and sauna, admittedly). Situated on a busy road and industrial estate, the location is less than bucolic and difficult to reach for cyclists and walkers, though there is plenty of car parking space, including for disabled patrons (if they can find a space that is, as those are usually stolen by the youngest and fittest members, as they are nearest to the gym entrance). Also you can park on the double-yellows as no-one appears eager to monitor them... The changing rooms are clean and spacious enough; the showers however are showing their age and need a complete overhaul. Staff are variable as in any facility, but superficially friendly, for the most part. Classes are the usual stuff with nothing to differentiate from other gyms.

Very friendly, clean, great jacuzzi and healthy snacks. The management need to carefully assess the needs of their older and less mobile customers: they need more hand rails along the wall to the swimming pool, the floor is very slippery in the communal shower rooms (they need hand rails in there too, and bumpy rubber floors), and access into the jacuzzi is perilous.

The swimming pool water is cold most of the days and the light switch is off around the pool to reduce the electricity bill. In the past 12 months, the boiler has broken down around 4, 5 times and we didn't even have hot water for bath most of the times. The only good thing is the membership which is cheap and included many classes.

I think a lot of gyms get a rep for having loads of pretentious people and that can make a lot of people including me feel uncomfortable. Bannatyne isn’t like that at all. There’s all ages, shapes, sizes. Really good pool and classes. Friendly staff. Myself and my mum for the first time in a long time have really been enjoy exercise again.

Been going for well over a year now just had a recent refurbishment of the gym area which is really nice excellent pool with good steam and sauna rooms. Only minor negative is the changing rooms and showers are looking a little worse for wear although the area's are kept clean and tidy.

Been a member here for a few years now simply because I live right by it. It is comparable with Leisure World with classes, their own version of Aqua Springs etc but falls short on the sports side. It is showing its age in places but staff tell me that the company doesn't want to spend money on repairs etc in less it has to! The biggest thing to consider is where you live. You. An spend £3+ per week on fuel going to a cheaper gym but is it really cheaper in the long run?

First visit today, so can't review a lot of stuff but all the staff I spoke to were really friendly and genuinely helpful. Facilities were clean and well laid out. Everything I used worked well. Also plenty of free parking, which is really useful. I will certainly be returning.

The Fitness Manager and Reception Managers are excellent. The General Manager could be more customer service focussed. There seems a distinct lack of appreciation of the importance of health and safety in the organisation. For example, fire exits are allowed to become blocked; for doors that don't close; large Step ladders being left out precariously lent against the wall in public areas.

I introduced a new member, Induction on Sunday was a farce, little information given and not shown equipment or given a programme to work to. I also had a review that was just taking my heart rate etc, no print out was possible I had to ask how to operate the new equipment. We felt under valued with the dont care less lazy aptitude. We had a good workout and a swim. On leaving at 19.27 we asked for two juices and were told we could not have one as the till had been cashed up. You need to up your game.

Very disappointing second visit for a spa day that was booked on a previous visit - not a good welcome on arriving ! We proceeded to the restaurant where we gad to seek out a waiter and ask for breakfast menus ... we waited ages for our drinks to be served and eventually our toast etc arrived - not enough butter for three rounds so once again I sought a member of staff to ask for more which I waited patiently for, which by then the toast was cold ... We had a swim and used the health suite, on arriving for our prebooked lunch we again waited to be given menus and drinks ... on ordering our food we waited for sometime for the drinks to be served ... food very disappointing and overpriced although the soup was good - maybe if the bread was warmed it would be even nicer.. my friends said the pate was skimpy and there was no butter to go with the toast ... I had the halloumi salad and it was mainly a bowl of lettuce with a horrible dressing which I left ... After our treatments we decided to have a coffee before leaving and once again I waited to be served or acknowledged - we had to go and find somebody to take our order - the cups had lipstick stain on one ... We would have booked another day but after being ignored at reception and not thanked or bade a farewell we all decided that we would not be returning ! We all felt that Ballentynes had got our money and didn't want to know us - very poor or non existent customer service ! The girls doing our treatment were fine although one yawned continuously whilst doing a massage on my friend ....

I attended the gym yesterday to do a step class, I fell and hurt my ankle, I can’t rate the staff enough for how much they helped me and didn’t leave me alone, I had continuous ice packs put on my ankle and a lot of support. It's a good gym for cardio but not much else, the floors uneven so the benches wobble when you try to balance, you can't deadlift as everything rolls away. Sauna is nice though

No pool equipment (noodles, weights) provided. These are needed for water fitness programs and It is such a hassle to bring all the equipment with you each day. How much money does it take to provide few water weights that people can pick up from the reception and return???
