Reviews of Moorways Sports Village and Water Park
e. d.
We had a fantastic fun yesterday! Kids love it! The tunnel slide was something to look forward too! The place looks fantastic… the staffs are very helpful especially Sally…. Changing rooms is huge just bring a pound for the refundable locker! Their. Pre-opening was a huge success!
L. C.
Been going now for a couple of months and didn’t want to review until now to make sure I got it right.
But, these are fab facilities…I only swim so can only comment on the main pool, timings and facilities available but so far I have no issues at all.
Changing rooms are always clean, cleaners are around all the time. It’s a public facility so it’ll never be perfect but I have no issues with what it’s like.
Swimming pool is lovely, perfect temperature for swimming. Can be busy at times but has always been manageable until you get that one person in a lane who thinks they own is and refuses to work with the others.
Timings - these are great and work well for me. I love my Saturday early morning swim when the pool is quiet. The only thing I would love is for a 18:00 swim (that just
Me being selfish) but the 18:30 works well 🙌🏼
No issues, great facilities and worth the money for sure!
K. F.
First time taking my 8 month old to swimming class and was a great experience. Very chilled class, nice to get baby use to the pool. Really clean and spacious in changing rooms. Also not too busy when I went @ around 10am on a Monday. Only reason 4 star because the signage once in changing room was very confusing but will get use to it once going more often. Can't wait to start going every week!
D. M.
Absolutely marvellous sports activities centre right where it needs to be. Modern, clean and inviting.
The pools are fantastic for all ages. The staff are friendly. The price is reasonable and the slides are great.
Glad to have this building in derby. Couldn't be happier. 4th visit tomorrow.
S.
Good sports centre. The addition of a soft play is a great feature. Only downside is birthday parties happen there with no prior warning, and we had to leave due to lack of staff awareness of their surroundings. There is also no good bike storage, so make sure to bring a strong D Lock.
M. W.
Staff were polite and friendly. Cleanliness was very good. A lovely attraction for derby. Only niggle was customers were allowed to retain the inflatables so continuely went on the ride, hence we couldn't go on. Mentioned it to a staff member who said that if we waited by the end of the ride somebody might "borrow us" there inflatable!!!
S. N.
Great customer service.
Diane and Alison on reception this morning were excellent. I came in with an issue and thought it would be stressful to resolve due to previous experiences at this center. However both ladies were polite, friendly and proactive. They got any issues resolved quickly and were very approcable which made the process easy. Thanks for all your help this morning

Had read some varied reviews so wasn't sure what to expect. As a family we really enjoyed it, it was busier than I felt entirely comfortable with but my children had fun and that is the main thing. Shop is ridiculously over priced and cafe was closed when we finished even though swimming was still going on. Would of been nice to have a sit down and hot drink before the journey home.
A. R.
Not great but not bad either. The changing facilities were clean and tidy and staff were friendly. Some of it doesn't make a lot of sense though. For example a sign as you enter the "changing zone" telling you to remove shoes or use covers, but no benches to sit and remove your shoes and no shoe covers available. There's enough minor inconveniences like this to wonder if the people designing the facilities really thought about how they were to be used. My Wife who is a much stronger swimmer than me also complained that the lanes are too short for the lane swimming as they only utilised a third of the pool for it. It's definitely a more family oriented centre and would be a great place to bring kids but for me it's a no.
A. B.
What a brilliant redevelopment! For the cost of a normal swimming pool trip you get slides, flumes, a wave pool and sometimes a big inflatable as well as a big pool to swim in.
It's really warm in the pool area and the water seems to warmer than other swimming pools.
We will definitely be going back again and fairly soon!
(I only wish that Rushcliffe leisure centre has looked at the plans for Moorways and decided to do something similar when it did it's rubbish redevelopment!)
J. H.
We've only been to the water park so far, and we loved it! It seems small when you first arrive, but like many things it is just perfectly formed. Make sure you go when the Atlantis inflatable is out
P. M.
Been a member here since it opened. It's a great facility which seems to be run pretty well. A lot of the classes are 'virtual' with no instructor - it'd be better if there were more instructor lead classes. For me, the gym is probably one of the best in Derby.
T. R.
Was quite anxious coming swimming after looking at the reviews regarding cleanliness but seemed to be quite clean, we booked for 1.30-3.00 on a Saturday so was a busy time, I seen the staff out with the brushes (though he was chatting not cleaning) the intention was there and I'm sure he cleaned after 🙈 I guess it depends on the cleanliness of the customers too.
Waterpark is absolutely awesome so much fun my 4 year old had the time of his life definitely going back
J. S.
After sorting out my membership fiasco which took more time than it should, now for an honest review of the facilities I have used.
Gym, all the equipment you'll probably ever need and more, plenty of wipe stations and providing everyone uses them the equipment is clean. Some of it feels old, probably been recycled from other sites around the city, but otherwise a nice setup.
Health suite, as a member is free which makes it ok for a post gym/swim wind down but if you pay £9 off membership for an hour you're going to be massively disappointed.
The teaching pool, great for family sessions however a warning, most leisure centers have teaching pool at 60cm depth to about 1m on the deeper end meaning they can be enjoyed by younger children, not so here, it's 1m all across which is frustrating with toddlers. If you want something shallower you're going to have to stump up extra for the water park, which has a charge for under 5s, and is not included in memberships.
Splash park for toddlers... its best to book this during the week when the slides are closed because it is not only cheaper but empty, we had the place to ourselves and the little lad loved it.
Splash park for older kids... if your kids are 5 to 8 ish you're probably going to be dissapointed paying full adult price, to realise they cannot use the slides due to height restrictions etc makes you feel like you've been cheated.
Cafe & free kids softplay is great, your under 5 can go in whilst you have a coffee and snack. If you're a member you get a discount on food and drinks too which is a bonus.
Softplay for older kids is an additional charge and in a really odd place comparative to the cafe and under 5 area. If you want soft play, go to jangala, much better on all counts.
Cleanliness is a big one for a leisure center and overall is lacking in the changing areas, dust clumps, hair clumps, sticking plasters, general grime, even when the place first opens in the morning. Most other places have a roster of who visited to clean and when, not this place and it feels like it is lacking. Ive noted food left in lockers for days and a suspicious looking brown splash and presumably wet loo rolls on the ceiling of one changing room which despite best efforts of telling reception, it has not been cleaned yet.
It's new and presumably finding it's feet, that's being said everyone active is a huge operator who should be on it. Maybe it'll get better, or in traditional council facility fashion, it'll have a maintenance backlog of millions before you know it.
L. D.
We had a great time in the family pool. Everywhere was clean and all of the team, from the cleaners to the lifeguards, were friendly and helpful. We came early evening outside of the holidays and there were just the right amount of people. We'll be back 🙂
R. B.
Excellent now that it's back to normal after school holidays. Did have a few hiccups first few months but they were forgivable. Facilities are excellent. As long as dinner time swimming lanes stays I will continue with membership.
E. C.
I've visited here twice now, once for the watermark and once to try out the gym. The waterpark is okay, but for brand new waterpark thats had £30m+ spent on it, it feels like it's lacking a certain something. There were some teething problems when we went. The lights on the flumes were not working. There was rusty seepage all over the floor from some metal barriers. The staff seemed a bit disengaged also "that's moorways for you, I heard one staff member say to the other". On a prior visit during the heatwave of 2022, we attempted to visit the pool for adult lane swimming, but staff on reception didn't have a clue when lane swimming was open and made no attempt to check and advise us. All they could tell us, was that they think it was closed.
My gym experience seemed okay. I visited during twilight hours, and there seemed to be an okay mix of clientele, but perhaps a little more on the hard core gym goer type.
c. a.
Great water facilities, only a few slides but good and queues not too long. Found out that if you book for waterpark you can use the inflatable course too which makes it extra enjoyable for kids.
C.
Absolutely amazing came today and had the time if my life, would definitely recommend and I will be coming back, althought for £42 million there could be a few more slides in the waterpark, other than that it is very enjoyable.
A. M.
Good clean modern facility.
Parking can be an issue as some people think
They can park wherever and however they like.
Not nearly enough blue badge spots.
E. P.
2nd time we've been. Loving this. The teaching pool was just the right depth for my 4yr old to learn to tread water. Topped it of in the aqua pool. Great slide 2 seater. Felt save. Lifts worked. Great disability services
S. P.
Very helpful staff the Active Communities Manager Lauren provided us with all the information and help needed to set up swimming sessions for a group of adults with learning disabilities and the next day an extremely helpful front of house member of staff Jenny spent a lot of time processing the groups applications and payment cards we are now looking forward to using the facilities next week
P. C.
First time I've been with my daughter we both enjoyed the slides and warm pool the changing rooms was clean aswell the only thing what I noticed was one of the blonde female lifeguard wasn't very interested in doing her job as my daughter spoke to her she didn't want to speak back just found it rude apart from that great place
P. W.
Great track. Tidy facilities
G. J.
Come here weekly for my daughter's swimming lessons and it is great the only downside is there's only 1 baby changing table in the swimming changing room which means I'm having to change her on the floor.
K. B.
Great and clean place to swim and slide.
Good size of water park and maximum size of pool!
Thank u Derby!
J. C.
Really enjoying a decent swim by booking a lane , water a bit chilly at first lol .
Only down fall is the changing village as it is unisex , worry about schools and youngsters
E. T.
The rides at the swimming pool are really good, loved the wave machine too. Brilliant for kids! One thing... the pool could be made more accessible by changes in the complex booking system. I'm sure they will sort it out as it's only been open a few weeks
E. C.
Great facilities, you can really see where all the budget went.
Changing rooms were filthy already though, with rubbish everywhere and hairs building up in the corners. A lot of staff stood around the pools with their brushes and not actually cleaning when it is clearly needed.
Very strict rules, including over the top minimum height requirements for some of the smaller slides, and not allowing my confident swimming daughter to go on the tiny inflatable obstacle without an adult. Making it impossible if you have another little one.
A staff member stood at the side mobbing swimmers coming off the course to make sure the life jackets were returned immediately, to the point where some parents clearly felt like they may get sent to the principles office.
We were forced to remove my daughters goggles on the slide even though we explained they were prescription goggles and she wouldn't be able to see a thing without them.
Overall a great place to swim and enjoy with the family, but the staff need better training and some more organising is required. There were moments where some staff members seemed unsure on the actual rules and caused a lot of frustration.
l. I. G. L.
Very good and kids loved the water park a bit small but still had a great time with kids, staff very friendly and plenty of space just remember locker money currently at £1 where most places are still 20p
D. S.
Ok let's start from the outside.
Decent car park size, shame about the graffiti still being there.
Reception area nice. Changing rooms were fine.
The main swimming pool is really amazing but lane swim only being in the deep end is poor. Older moorways I preferred for lane swim. Also no diving boards, it would have been nice to have diving boards.
The water park, it's good for a couple of hours with the family. The flumes are decent, the rubber ring ride is very good. The 2 slides are good but would have been better if it was a 4 like a waterworld for all the family to use also if it was a bit longer.
The kids area splash area is brilliant. Really fun area for the kids.
Now the negative. The main pool in the water park is poor. You go into the circle and that's it. You can't get out, there's nothing to do, it's too small, it's boring. Also when I went it was super busy and we were like sardines.
I struggle to see how the idea of the main pool was ever agreed. You just need to look at any other "water park, holiday pool"
Wheres the buckets above your head? Wheres the stairs to get out and jump in? Wheres the wave machine? Also it should have been 2-3 times as big. I feel they've really missed a trick with the design of that part of the water park.
Also to add, Where's the colour? Its just white everywhere you look. It has no character. Very boring looking.
The gym I can't comment on really, I had a tour, it looked ok but small. But for 30 pounds including swimming I feel that's a bargain for saying how much other gyms are around derby.
All in all, I give it a 3/5 . I am really happy we finally have somewhere where we can swim and somewhere you can take the kids for a splash around in Derby. It's been way too long without such facilities. I will be returning but will be trying my best to pick a quieter time to use the water park to make it worth while.
X.
Great facilities but be careful! WEDSITE IS MISLEADING! Website states kids under 1.2M CAN go on the bigger slides with an adult. However when we tryed, we was told that they couldnt ride at all due to their height. Left us disappointed and couldn't enjoy all of the water park.
K. O.
I think Moorways looks great now, I enjoyed the slow Lane swimming however the only thing I was a bit unsure/uncomfortable with I'm pretty sure there are unisex changing rooms which when I was showering, I felt a bit uncomfortable. I questioned if I was in the wrong place but I was told I wasn't. Maybe I'm being fussy but it felt a bit uncomfortable for me.
K. C.
I haven't been yet as I've been unable to find the swimming timetable online. Decided to read the reviews first and am hesitant to try it out. Also, be aware that there are a lot of reviews on here that were posted many years ago, i.e. relating to the old complex!!!
G. H.
Visited the water park today and had plenty of fun trying the slides, it wasn't the biggest of pool areas so found it difficult to get a bit of space for us to enjoy a little swim.
R.
Spacious, modern, clean, not overcrowded, well built and organised. Would be 5 star if they dropped the price a quid or two. Just need another few places like this in the area.
H. W.
Absolutely brilliant place system membership great with premium packages, as you have freedom to Enjoy leisure activities across the UK 🇬🇧. Fab Stuff
L. S.
Looking very good, multiple pools ,my kid love it, I'll avoid Sunday afternoon as getting very busy,in peak times the parking is insufficient
And take a pound Coin, 😉 first visitors will understand
M. A.
What a fantastic place to take the family, adults and kids pool, big one has inflatable assault course if u wish, kids has water fountains, slides, tunnels, good prices too, amazing place to go, definitely worth it, 5*
L. P.
Really great for the bigger kids but not a lot for that "in between" age. Annoying as you still have to pay for the under 120cm kids who then can't go on any of the flumes/slides!
C. S.
Very nice pools and nice building from inside and outside staff are very kind friendly and generous
A. B.
Thoroughly enjoyed this place yes maybe a tad expensive but the kids enjoyed it and so did the adults visited while down from Scotland flumes are great
A. J.
Daughter has her swimming lessons which she enjoys. The whole place has been upgraded amazingly
A. M.
Waterpark is great for little ones and there's some decent slides for older people too. Barely any queues to use them either.
W.
My son had a birthday party with 10 of his friends, in the water park area. Ms Haslam, who organised everything, was brilliant from start to finish
A. G.
Brought the 4 yr old grandson today, a long with his mum.
There doesn’t appear to be any parent and baby/ child car parking spaces . Plenty of disabled.
Free parking despite the signage in the carpark. You need to remember your cars reg , as you need to log it onto the computer on left of door entry for the 3 hr free parking.
Shocked to see that shoes are allowed to be worn in the changing rooms ( hence comments from people on dirty floors) Ilkeston pool insist foot wear is removed before entry and that’s a very good idea.
The changing room cubicles are all grey , almost identical except for size , so its very difficult to find your way back should you nip to the loos etc. only one hook in the changing room, we used a nice sized family one… ( i do hope there is some where to change a baby and put the baby while a mummy changes …. Many yrs ago Bramcote Baths provided plastic play pens and these where SO useful. )
We paid for the splash pool with childrens slides and knew the big slides were not available, however the children’s water slide entry involves going up the steps , under a downfall of water ( some children do not like getting their faces wet , daft i know but thats children for you). There is also a massive bucket that fills that makes a dramatic SPLASH, which also tumbles into the slide area…. I know the big kids would love it , but not so much toddlers , of which were using the pool area today as older kids in school…. ( May be i am being to critical, but it did put off the 4yr old) .
Parents and their toddlers seemed to pop between this pool and the teaching pool, but when we popped in, elderly folk where swimming lengths and the life guard asked if we had booked the teaching pool. We hadn’t…. But in this pool were water play toys, balls , buckets , water shooters that weren’t available in the bigger pool and he wouldn’t let us borrow any, found it strange that these were available near the old folk….’
Found hairdryers that were free, unfortunately many didn’t work, but the one that did was adequate for short hair.
The lockers require £1 coins which you do get back…
The water in the splash pool was just the right temp , as to the air and the air in the changing rooms. Showers where nice and hot and for after swimming, in lockable cubicles.
All in it was a successful trip and my grandson loved it …
J. T.
Expensive but was a really lovely couple of hours in a different type of pool and play area - really recommend it but make sure you get the right tickets!
D. N.
Absolutely fantastic pool. Over half term the inflatable course was set up which was great. Not the biggest water park but not packed out so great! Nice and warm too
S. (.
The kids absolutely loved it , so did the adults to tell you the truth. Expensive but OK for a treat once in a while.
G. S.
Fabulous swimming pool, steam room and sauna. 3 hours free parking. Can't wait to try the water park, gym and fitness classes.
T. B.
Would have been 5 but the toilets in the changing rooms were out of order. Very clean and new. Got very busy early on a Friday afternoon.
V. B.
Excellent pool and waterpark. Derby should be delighted to finally get a decent pool to be proud of. Bring on the new theatre in the city centre and Derby might turn a corner. We'll done to all at DCC
D. B.
Well I was going to go swimming, until I tried to book a slot online. Who signed off on his website? I've never used a more confusing booking system. I'll go for a walk instead...
J. B.
Just being able too get slots for swimming and aqua you have too be quick
s. b.
-Register your car on the terminal at reception for the 3 hours free parking.
-EV fast and rapid available BP pulse.
-Changing room unisex.
-Lockers available for £1/token.
E. D.
Great gym, clean, plently of equipment, great treadmills, modern and very well ventilated.
F. B.
Amazing place kids loved it can’t go wrong definitely worth the money
L. S.
Had a lovely hour with 4 year old and 10 year. Clean facilities. 4 year old had enough. 1.5 hours was to long for him. 10 year old loved it
E. W.
Had a lovely afternoon with the kids in the water park. Even though my youngest is too small to go on the flumes she had a lot of fun on the stuff she could do.
s. D.
Waterpark was really good, especially the wave pool and Aqua flume. We didn't have to wait too long for the slides despite it being half term. The 90min slot is plenty of time.
R. D.
Had a great time here, all though I’ve got to admit the slides were hardcore 🤣. Only plucked the courage for one go
r. s.
Great addition for derby, about time they had an Olympic sized pool and there's also loads of fun to be had in the other pools.
A. K.
A little bit too cold water in kids section, all little ones had purple lips after 10 minutes unfortunately we had to leave cause no one enjoyed it .
S. T.
Loved the water park it I don't think it deserves its bad reviews the water is nearly as warm as a bath and some of the staff are rude but over all great water park
C. P.
Took my 7 year old grandson, he loved it.
J. M.
We took 48 children from school and they loved it! Great facilities and friendly staff.
G. L.
Quite small, probably suitable for smaller children. But good facilities
J. T.
Whilst being modern and clean and well presented the staff could do with more customer focus
S.
I went to the water park, its nice to have a shallow area for very little one's, lots of changing cubicles, I think there needs to be more showers that you can change the temperature on because otherwise the water is way too hot to wash little ones
M. R.
Nice place to go with you year old baby. Free car park. Nice enviroment
H. R.
Great place to take the children, very clean, not overcrowded. Good value for money
A. S.
Great location for a family day out... Lots of water fun for kids and grown ups alike!
I. a. y. F.
A really impressive sports centre, but a little on the expensive side.
R. D.
A fabulous addition to this part of Derby. Utterly transformed from what it was pre-pandemic. Very well worth a visit.
S. C.
Only went into the cafe, but it looks lovely.
C. S.
The fun pool is not as big as it could be and the prices are a little expensive But was fun could just be a little cheaper
J. G.
The cleanliness is much worse than queen street baths very disappointing it always has a bad smell and the changing rooms are filthy also the showers, yesterday in the shower there was a USED TAMPON on the above pipe how disgusting also there’s hair all over the floors so you shower to be clean then your treading in dirty hair! You just don’t feel clean
Since the school holidays the lane swimming has been a disaster despite telling life guards and reception is a waste of time the kids and adults just get in the pool to mess about or race each other! Yesterday there were 2 people who was in the lane pool for at least 10 minutes and the life guards (plenty of them) said nothing they clearly could see but did nothing very frustrating when you have paid for lane swimming and anyone comes in most of the time the younger life guards look like there in a day dream. I hope the manager addresses these issues WATCH THIS SPACE!
A. L.
Really fun and cool love to go there again and I am hoping to go again this Saturday!
K. K.
Racing slide was good all of them was good but the gun should shoot further and it was a pain walking up those stairs
N. M.
Just wanna thank the life guards for saving my life today 😂 a really good team who knows what they are doing!
R. S.
Nice new place for all the family
M. G.
Great new building, spotlessly clean, all facilities are excellent.
A. M.
Been several times and enjoyed swimming and slides.
C. W.
Pretty boring to be honest but immaculate and looked after well
S. S.
Clean, great facilities, plenty of well trained and pleasant staff
S. N.
Great clean pools
J. H.
Sensory swim today was brilliant my grandson was very happy, he cried when we were leaving he wanted to get back in I think the water in the teaching pool could do with being abit warmer we were surprised by a slight chill to the temperature of the water the session was hour but we came out after 40mins because my grandson was starting to feel cold teeth chattering.
But appart from that it is a lovely set up and we will definitely come again soon.
A. L.
Tried to move my daughter over for swimming lessons for almost a week now from Burton as easier for me. If I get through....someone will speak to me after hold....on hold noone answers.....when I have got through arrange for someone to call me back...they didn't....a week later none the wiser so I'll stick with Burton as nobody can be arsed to fulfil a simple request of moving a swimming lesson. If Burton don't get act together I'll be looking elsewhere which is unfortunate as she has come on leaps and bounds at Burton. Now dealt with expertly by Sam and Charlotte
J. B.
This sports centre is what The city of Derby has been needing for years. 10 out of 10
J.
Swimming pool and gyms membership cost £30a month
S.
Very expensive and can be very dirty and smelly in the changing rooms
S. O.
Prices seemed to have risen, but good day out!
C. P.

C. O.
Very busy, pre book on the app
M. J.
Great pool and fun for kids.
A. S.
I found the website confusing when just trying to get prices
T. D.
Newly open so lovely and clean
C. Q.
Children loved the play pool
B. G.
A large pool with more than enough lanes. Weekday night swimming is quite reasonably priced and there is always enough space. The facilities are ageing and showing the strain but it does the job.
B. C. I.
Beautiful place for a swim and gym workout etc.....
I. S.
Best kids water park
S. H.
Very good can Garazh
B. F.
Great sports Village
W. B.
Fab fun
H. D.
Good fun
M. M.
Loved it
L. F.
Shame it will be demolished :(. It's better and cleaner (than Queen's) and there is enough FREE parking space. At Queen's in city centre, u have to pay for parking and it's difficult to find where to park.
B. S.
Not as good as I thought
A. H.
it slays
S. T.
Please don't use the Google timetable its wrong! call the centre and they will tell you the pool times.
I. P.
Top notch facility

Take my 2yr old grandson to the pool most weeks, he loves it. The staff are helpful & friendly. Changing room is spacious & lovely & warm. Great when I have to get him dressed first, so I am standing around wet. Love it.
