Reviews of Strong Like a Mutha

I've been coming to SLAM for nearly a year now after having a few years away from any structured exercise and feeling in a bit of a physical slump, and I've felt so much benefit, not only from moving my body again, but also from the real sense of community and camaraderie I've found there. SLAM is so much more than a gym, and I love that the focus is not just on the physical body, but the amazing and knowledgeable team offer so many tools to support you to look after your whole self for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. I feel stronger than I have in a long time and always look forward to my sessions, I couldn't recommend SLAM more.

The post party’s bootcamp at SLAM has been brilliant. I finally feel like I’m regaining some strength back, all with the very personal support from the fantastic team there who take the time to listen and observe and ensure you’re exercising effectively. The environment at SLAM is just wonderful. As a new first-time Mum I really valued being amongst other like-minded women and the ability to take your baby along with no judgement when they cry or fuss is so valuable. I really felt cared for - it’s a very special gym.

Started this 4 months postpartum and loved it! Amazing being able to go to the gym with my baby! The team are lovely & make you feel at ease especially when starting from zero fitness! The classes are tailored to new mums and help you get your strength back and feel like yourself.
A. R.
I started with this gym while on maternity leave. They guided me on how to get back into fitness after having my baby and can't thank them enough for that. Not only that
they held my baby when she was wanting attention to allow me to carry on during our class, as well as teaching me new techniques and skills. Thank you so much SLAM team.

I have just completed the postnatal course, Bulletproof your body, and it was amazing. Lyndsey is a brilliant coach and I have never felt so welcome or comfortable in a gym. I'm signing up to stay a member of this fabulous gym!
G. S.
The Bullet Proof Your Body course has been such a positive experience. Lyndsey and the team are so knowledgable and friendly, they empower you to progress and challenge yourself. The gym is a really welcoming space and it was great to meet other mums. Lyndsey makes sure that there’s a place for relaxing and socialising and also for looking after the baby when you exercise. It’s exactly what I needed as a new mum returning to exercise.

The most welcoming, supportive gym I've ever been to, with knowledgeable trainers who really help you to achieve your potential with kindness and competent instruction. I'd recommend SLAM to anyone looking to get stronger and build confidence with training.

SLAM is a wonderful inclusive gym for all genders, shapes and sizes. The space is beautiful and the kit is excellent, but the coaches are by far the biggest selling point. I always feel pushed to my best and the sessions are adapted to suit my goals. Their covid protocols are excellent - the equipment isn’t shared and is thoroughly cleaned between each class. I feel supported, encouraged and welcomed at SLAM.

I’ve been attending classes at SLAM since November. First of all for the Bulletproof Your Body course, then onto Strong Muthas Club and now I attend Small Group Personal Training twice a week. Before this I had never ever been to a gym and thought that it wasn’t for me. I’ve found all of the classes I’ve attended to be supportive, encouraging and fun. Always the right amount of challenge and the coaches are really knowledgeable and personable. I feel much stronger and more confident in the abilities of my body after having 2 children. I really enjoy the classes at SLAM and would thoroughly recommend them if you’re a gym newbie like me!

I signed up to SLAM's 'Bulletproof Your Body' course after I had my baby and I am so glad that I did! Following giving birth I felt so drained and struggled to manage lifting the car seat, or getting up from the floor, and I I had no idea how to return to exercise safely. At BYB they really took the time to coach us back into exercise gently whilst showing us how to build up our pelvic floor and core. The classes are great because you can bring your baby along, and you get to meet other mums and chat with them, and it's a breastfeeding friendly environment. The coaches will even give your baby a cuddle while you get your workout done! I don't know of any where else that supports new mums like SLAM does. Doing the course was so good for my mental wellbeing as well, as it's easy to feel stuck inside with a baby, but going to these classes helped give me headspace. It felt a bit expensive at the time - but I thought of it as an investment in myself during that postnatal time, and I think it was really worth it.
Since then I've continued with Strong Mutha's Club and I love going to every session. The gym has such great equipment, and even in the open gym sessions there is guidance on what work outs to do, so I always feel that I am being pushed just the right amount. I've learnt to use new bits of kit that I would never have had the confidence to try at a standard gym. I feel blown away that I'm now doing such hard workouts just 4 months after having a baby and this makes me feel like a strong mutha for sure!
It feels very safe from a covid point of view - you work out in your own space, there is no sharing of equipment and everything is wiped down afterwards. I also appreciate the steps they have made to reduce waste in the gym.
Gyms are often quite masculine, cold places but SLAM is beautiful, supportive and welcoming. If you're a new Mum - invest in yourself and sign up! There are loads of reasons why you'll be glad you did.

I can't say enough how much I love this gym. It's a wonderful, welcoming space with a real sense of community. The coaches are all fab and really supportive. I've just completed the postnatal course and it's made such a difference to my strength and confidence in returning to exercise.
J. M.
After having previously had a bad experience of returning to exercise after my first i was really nervous about a second time. However, as soon as i signed up i knew i was in safe and knowledgeable hands. This course is an absolute must for anyone looking to get back into exercise.
The coaches are amazing, everyone is so friendly and once you start you won't want to stop.
This is genuinely the best investment i have made since having my second baby and can't wait to continue my journey with Strong Like a Mutha,i recommend it to all my friends.

Great way to build up fitness again after having a baby. Small class size. Very gentle start which builds in intensity over the weeks and leaves you feeling energised. Would definitely recommend. Plus babies can come with you, meaning no need to find childcare

Loved training with Strong Like a Mutha during my pregnancy. The weekly strength class pre-natal power was so good for me I did two blocks up until a few weeks before due date. The classes were fun and empowering and led by such professional coaches. An alternative was always available if the exercise didn't quite work for my body and the chat always encouraging - not to do more or heavier, just to turn up and do what felt right that day. I'm confident that the reason I managed to keep running up to 38 weeks pregnant is the strength training I did with SLAM. So happy about that! Absolutely recommend to anyone considering prenatal class.
A. S.
I've loved my time at SLAM. The gym itself is really well organised, I love having my own allocated space and equipment for the whole of my workout. It's super clean and full of beautiful little touches that make it feel welcoming and not a sterile space like some other gyms which I really like. The programmes you are provided are so detailed and easy to follow and the staff are all so welcoming. I moved to SLAM from a chain gym and I'm so glad I did, I like the community that's been built here and feel safe and encouraged to work out in a way that feels right for me.
I'd definitely recommend!
S. M.
This is a brilliant gym, although it's so much more than that. It's a safe space, especially for women going through mega body changes in the pregnancy and post partum journey.
The atmosphere, the decor, the equipment, the trainers - all top notch 👌
I've been attending during my pregnancy and now post partum along with my baby. The workouts and connections with other mums are doing wonders for my physical and emotional wellbeing. I definitely recommend this place.
M. L.
I signed up to the Prenatal Power course at 18 weeks into my pregnancy. It was a great way to meet other mums-to-be in the area who are like minded and enjoy working out! And we still meet up now with our babies. I then progressed onto the BYB course which helped me return safely to exercise postnatally where is felt fully supported and safe. My little one also loved the sessions, watching all the movement and listening to the music.
The coaches/instructors are so knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They are always on hand for advice or questions and will tailor workouts to your needs.
I would 100% recommend SLAM to anyone looking for a nice small group friendly gym where the focus is on overall well-being rather than weight loss, body image etc
N. S.
Have been attending classes at SLAM for a good while and it has been fantastic. Evolving with changing requirements of covid as well as the members. It has a great team who are personable, know what they're doing, fun and relaxed. The gym itself is great, an open and safe place. The equipment is great and classes are brilliant for newbies to experienced gym folk, no pressure but with lots of encouragement 😃 I'm so glad I found this gym.

The best gym I’ve ever been to. Having been really unfit for years due to RA, and made worse by lockdown, I was terrified of joining a gym. I actually cried at my first session but the coach was amazing. In just a few weeks, I already feel a difference in my fitness and hope this will continue on my range of movement, strength building and weight loss. The coaches are great at their jobs and so encouraging. There’s a real ‘community’ feel at each session and it’s just a genuinely nice environment.

An amazing welcoming and clean gym with the nicest staff around. I trained with Lyndsey and the team after my first baby and during my second pregnancy and I've never come across such a professional and knowledgable gym. They have specific training in pre and post natal care but although they are called the Muthaship, this place welcomes everyone, you don't just need to be a mum or female to join. They have been amazing given the last year during Covid and have had individual work out pods in order to safely keep 2m distance. They have a range of classes aimed at pre and postnatal care which are excellent and the coaches have the best training around to specifically target issues that may arise in pregnancy and beyond. Love this place!

After having my baby I was terrified of returning to the gym and feeling so unfit and tired all the time. However coming to the Mutha Ship has been an amazing experience. Lyndsey and Jen are always so helpful and encouraging. Definitely the best gym I have ever been to with the most support. I also love how baby friendly the Mutha Ship is. Couches for feeding and lovely facilities for babies. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else now.

So glad I found SLAM and signed up to the bulletproof your body course after having my little girl! The mix of one in person session per week and loads of online content is brilliant for when you have a new baby. The girls are all so knowledgeable and friendly, you really feel like you're part of a community. Can't wait to continue my training with them.

Just finished the 6 week post-natal bulletproof course at SLAM. I was desperate to get back to exercise following the birth of my first son in April. I wasn’t looking to ‘bounce back’ or ‘lose the baby weight’ but SLAM isn’t about those things. SLAM is about working to get you feeling comfortable moving more with your amazing body that made a baby. I was so uncertain doing anything more physical than walking with the pram slowly round the park. But the exercises that we started with were gentle and focused on reconnecting with my core and breathing. The exercises builtd up week by week becoming harder and by week 6 I was probably sweating as much as I used to in a pre-baby workout. Lifting the pram into the car or bumping it up my front steps used to make me worry if I could do it. Now I can do it without worrying or asking my husband to help. This means I can be independent and just get on with my day and do the things I want to do.
It is fantastic that Lindsey, Jen, Paula and all the coaches are on hand and always willing to help with queries or concerns and always adapt the exercises if something doesn’t feel right. The online platform with the detailed videos were great to follow at home to get in exercises at a convenient time.
Ill be signing up for the next step course of strong mother’s club to keep up the work and keep feeling stronger and stronger.
It is great to know that this course is by professionals who are experts in post-natal fitness. I was keen to get back to exercise but worried I’d over do it and push myself too hard, too soon and get injured. I needn’t have worried cause I’m in safe hands working out at SLAM!
M. M.
I've enjoyed both the prenatal power and bulletproof your body courses at Strong like a mutha. The team are knowledgeable, expertly trained and enthusiastic about supporting pregnant and post natal women to train. I've felt great doing these courses and empowered and encouraged to keep training throughout my pregnancy. Which in turn has helped me have a more positive post natal recovery than last time. I would highly recommend them!

I’ve only just joined SGT and I was really apprehensive about it (new mum, busy life and I’m a serial gym-trier and ditcher!!!). But from the second I walked in I knew I’d made the right decision. I flipping LOVE it. It’s clean, friendly, everyone is supportive and even though I’ve only been going for 3 weeks I already feel like I’m making progress. If you’re on the fence about joining…DO IT!!
S. G.
Lyndsey and the SLAM team are an awesome bunch! They are extremely knowledgeable about health and fitness, and they support you as an individual, whatever your goals or if you're getting back into fitness. And they never stop encouraging you!! They are incredible and have been a fantastic community throughout the crazy year of 2020! They've been there for all their members not only for our physical health, but they've also been there checking in on our mental well being. For me and for many they are an 'essential service'. They have your back! 5*++++

I’ve been attending the Bullet Proof Your Body course after having my first child. SLAM is an amazing space and the team have created a really supportive and welcoming community. The PTs are encouraging, knowledgeable, friendly and make everything really accessible. I couldn’t recommend SLAM more highly!

My introduction to SLAM was via the 1-2-1 programme. Having not moved in any meaningful way for most of my adult life I was a little anxious HOWEVER that all changed when I stepped through the door at SLAM Paula and Jen guided me through and allayed my anxiety. A truly unique experience, where you do improve yet feel so supported. I loved it immediately and signed up for yet another block of 1-2-1 training. Then my introductory week and now….I’m a member and SLAMming it three times a week. At SGPT. Robyn, Mel and Lyndsey are also supporting me to be what I want/can be in a truly bespoke way. Come try!

I signed up for the Bulletproof Your Body (BYB) programme because I wanted to ease into going back to the gym after giving birth to baby no.2. And it exceeded all my expectations! The coaches were excellent and they knew what was going on with a postnatal mum’s body so the workouts are geared towards slowly and safely building up strength in areas that need it most. In my case, my core and hips were at its weakest so I appreciated the exercises that helped me get those muscles working again. There were loads of online content too so you get to benefit from postnatal-specific resources like Rosie Davie who’s an expert on pelvic health. The gym is a fantastic and welcoming space too. Clean, not cramped, great kit. There are pods for each person and plenty of sanitisers to go around.
I highly recommend the BYB programme and SLAM to new mums who want to get back into fitness and to meet other mums who are on the same journey. 😊♥️💪🏼 I’ve already signed up for the Strong Muthas’ Club.
M. M.
Everything I ever wanted in a gym - the training is great and coaches take time to respond to individual needs, and the culture is welcoming and accepting of all abilities. The specialist knowledge around pregnancy and post birth training is incredibly helpful, as is being able to bring a baby along.
K. C.
I exercised before being pregnant and was a bit nervous about continuing this when I found out I was pregnant. I found googling "safe exercise when pregnant" took me down a rabbit hole which I just didn't have the brain space for. I followed The Mutha Ship on Instagram before being pregnant and loved the ethos and vibe from there!! Signed up and have enjoyed being guided through safe exercise by the lovely Jennifer who makes everything seem relaxed and simple 😀 Lovely vibe in the studio too (even in Covid times) and feeling my confidence growing each week. Looking forward to continuing this throughout the rest of my pregnancy and hopefully postnatal too. Great place!
C. J.
I’ve been working through the post natal course Build Your Body (BYB) at 6months postpartum and it’s been invaluable to me and my recovery both physical and mental. After having my first baby in lockdown I was really anxious about commiting to something and leaving the house but talking to SLAM helped me address any concerns I had pre signing up and I am so glad I did. The small group class has helped keep me going and being able to bring the baby was the dealbreaker as I wasn’t initially ready to leave her. Also the online content I’ve worked through at home around baby has also been brilliant to do and informative. It’s been wonderful to do something for me and return to exercise in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment. My only regret is not finding this place sooner.
C. S.
Been participating in the post natal course Bullet Proof Your Body. Without this I would not have had a clue where to begin and would probably have rushed back to lifting weights without rehabilitating properly. The course is great value for money, in addition to a weekly session (small group), you get access to the online platform with home workouts, breathing, guidance from a midwife and physio etc. The course really does cover EVERYTHING you could need for post natal recovery. 100% recommend.
K. D.
SLAM is such a awesome place to train especially if you are looking for pre and postnatal experts to support you.
I have done both the pre and postnatal courses and they are great for giving you confidence on what movements to do and how. I can't recommend this place more highly. It also has a really lovely community.
K. H.
Lifechanging to find this space to train in. The best classes and gym space, supportive coaches and extras to help wellbeing and recovery like fantastic yoga classes and workshops.
M. S.
I had an awesome training session at the Mutha Ship, doing their daily workout from the board. The gym is quiet, relaxed and very friendly. Lyndsey is happy to show you round, answer any questions and is on hand to give you tips. Next time I’ll bring my kids as they are welcome too and there’s some toys to play with while mama trains. This place is not about egos and swanning round in the latest gear. It’s simply a great place to train and if you happen to be a new mum or a mum to be, you’re in luck as Lyndsey and Jen are experts who will guide you on your journey! Highly recommend!!
L. T.
Amazing gym! All the coaches are so friendly and great at helping you out with anything you need or any modifications to the exercises. I’ve always felt intimidated going in to a new gym space but I have felt comfortable here thanks to the coaches and other members!
S. A.
In short, this gym will challenge your preconceptions of what a gym is. The first thing you notice is the comfortable living room furniture, the bright and well presented space and the baby toys tucked in the corner. Do not let this fool you, this is a proper gym with two properly knowledgeable young women running the show! It's a friendly and unintimidating place in which you can achieve your fitness goals with expert support and advice on hand. This gym really feels like a breath of fresh air and a nice place to train.

When I started out at Strong Like a Mutha (I did the Bullet proof course) I couldn’t roll in bed, was unable to manage stairs easily whilst holding my baby unless using handrail and generally felt pretty deconditioned post c section. Jen and Lyndsey were kind, empathetic and never made me feel like I didn’t belong (I’m not a big gym buff by ANY stretch of the imagination 😂). I went on to join their gym and went from strength to strength. I could feel how much stronger I was getting in my whole body and surpassed the goals I set for myself - eg being able to get on and off the floor easily, carrying my baby for longer distances with ease etc. Not only that, the positive self image I gained from going was huge. The gym is somehow flooded with an “I can” attitude in a very gentle and empowering way.
Sadly my maternity pay is no longer able to stretch but I’m hoping to return to their classes soon as I miss it! Thank you for all of your help and support Lyndsey and Jen. X
C. R.
I’ve never felt that comfortable in gyms but immediately felt relaxed and at home at the mutha ship. So much care has gone into creating this space and and there is real attention to detail. As well as plenty of home comforts there’s also a lot of great equipment to use and Jen is excellent at pushing you just hard enough! If you’re pregnant, returning to exercise after pregnancy, or are just looking for a safe place to exercise, I can not recommend the mutha ship enough!
S. J.
Cant rave about this gym enough! Spent the majority of my mat leave here, just waiting for them to include bed and board with their membership! Such a wonderful community the lovely ladies have created, my daughter and I always look forward to heading to class! A must for any new mum looking to work out, feel safe and meet other like minded lovely ladies!
E. A.
The Mutha Ship is one of a kind!!!
Lyndsey and Jen have created such a welcoming and beautiful space. I have been a member of various gyms and never have I loved one as much as I do this place! The Strong Like a Mutha team have so much to offer in their new facility! It’s so pretty yet hardcore! Could not recommend it or the SLAM team enough!
P. R.
Visited today for a yoga class and as usual the class was brilliant, and the new gym space is awesome! There’s such a friendly vibe & you can tell there’s a lot of love being put into the space! I’m excited to get back into training in a gym that’s welcoming and supportive!
It also helps that Lyndsey and Jen are both lovely and are experts in pre and post natal exercise! Perfect for us strong mutha’s!

Returning to the gym after pregnancy can be scary right?... so many thoughts racing through your head, will I feel out of place? will I embarrass myself? Etc. Etc. In 'standard' gyms the answer to these questions could possibly be 'yes' but not at The Mutha Ship. You feel welcome instantly and part of the team. Lindsay and Jen have put their heart and soul into creating this space and it shows, from the thoughtful touch of a stocked baby change facility to the super comfy sofas where you can feed baby, you feel at home and more confident returning to fitness as a Mummy. Unlike my previous experience, where I have felt lonely, even isolated, in regular gyms, I feel like I belong here. This is not a regular gym, it's one of a kind, and I am so glad that I took the 1st scary step of being a part of it.
Training alongside others Mum's who are on the same crazy Motherhood ride as you makes you push harder, we're all in it together, supporting one another, under the expert supervision of Lindsay and Jen, we can achieve anything we put our mind to.Both girls are so supportive and encouraging all the while pushing and challenging you to be the best version of you.
Come aboard the Mutha Ship ❤

SLAM is a fantastic gym with amazing kit and coaches! Plus it's also a beautiful community for all people - such a joy to be a member, myself and my partner love training here.

This place (because this is so much more than a gym) is unrivalled in Glasgow and probably anywhere else in the UK. Their values, standards and commitment is exceptional. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great place to exercise and feel part of something very special.

The Mutha Ship is my Sanctuary! I have been training with Lyndsey and Jen since the beginning of my pregnancy and have followed them on their journey to success with SLAM. A beautiful, safe and welcoming environment, these inspirational women empower others and churn out strong and confident women!

The authenticity of this business and genuine care for clients was 10/10. I took online classes whilst pregnant and I am grateful I had this support. Just following the muthaship page on Instagram alone is a positive daily reminder on health and wellbeing both physically and mentally. A true blessing for anyone involved.

I had a massage at SLAM at around 32 weeks pregnant. It was amazing - one of the best massages I have ever had! I will definitely be back.
