Reviews of Fight City Gym

Having worked with many of London’s top gyms, I can honestly say that Fight City stands out above the rest. Top coaches, really good classes for all levels of experience and a fantastic atmosphere. Would highly recommend

Amazing place to train BJJ and top gym equipment. Great coaches and leasons are on at all times of the day, highly recommend if you're looking for a gym in London.

Without a doubt the best gym group in London. Awesome trainers and great atmosphere

Great gym in the centre of the city of London. Everything you need for strength and conditioning. Great coaches for any fight training you want. You don't need to be into the fight side of it either. it's a gym for anyone. Come and train. I can't recommend it highly enough. I love the place.

Amazing place to train.
- Very convenient location
- Great free weight area
- Friendly staff & members
- MMA classes by Wendle are on another level

It's simply one of the best Martial Arts Gym in London. Here you have the opportunity to learn and improve everyday with the best, with the champions. With ZR BJJ Team, best in the UK and Top 14 in the IBJJ ranking, coached by the best in the UK Alain Pozo. Also with great Boxing and Muay Thai instructors, with nice space for conditioning and weights. Nice people that creates a great atmosphere, we all feel like a family. And with a great administration behind that makes this place on of the best in in the UK.

Haven't been training here for too long but after my first lesson I was instantly hooked and signed up now I try and go regularly, the instructors are excellent and there is no egos. Everyone here is supportive regardless of your level of skill which is a huge plus for people who have never trained in any martial art. Highly recommended!

Great gym! I’m currently training in Boxing and Muay Thai. I find the instructors are very knowledgeable and vigilant, picking up and correcting any mistakes, constantly helping me to improve. The gym has a good atmosphere with a good group of friendly people who help and encourage each other.

I have been a member of this gym for the last year and it is fantastic. I was able to go before and after work and it always had a great energy. It has a fantastic range of classes and must be one of the best gyms in the area at an incredible price. The variation of classes also is just another string in its bow. As there were some days when I didn't want to do a norma workout and I fancied joining in with a class and all the instructors are friendly and great educators. I recommend this gym to anyone in the area who wants a professionally run gym at great price.

Pros:
Would recommend
Variety of classes; Muay-Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, BJJ, No-Gi, MMA
Very helpful towel service for £5 depending on membership
Good location 5 min walk from Moorgate station
Mostly good evening class timetable for a gym with 1 class area
Weights and track area
Treadmills
Boxing Ring
Variety of punch bags and wall-mounted uppercut pad
Decent ranges of memberships
Good number of showers with shower gel
Equipment to borrow; gloves and shinguards
Good quality May-Thai
Very good quality BJJ
Good coaches with good teaching quality in Muay-Thai; Wendle is especially knowledgeable
Occasional seminars
Cons and suggestions:
Despite decent ranges of membership, they could introduce even more membership options, considering that competing gyms like Fightzone are cheaper with more classes and bigger, better class areas.
Peak times and facilities;
Overcrowded classes in May-Thai, especially BJJ
Wednesday no-gi is now difficult attend with awkward times
Not enough space to even warm up or stretch during peak hours outside the mat because of overcrowding
More space needed for shelves to put water bottles etc, and space for flip-flops.
Only 1 class area is small compared to Fightzone gym’s 3 huge areas.
Expand the gym to have more class areas to resolve overcrowding
Ticket system is fiddly, annoying and not necessary, get the instructors to use iPads instead.
Unhelpful solution to overcrowding, by penalising membership payers with £18 penalty if they can’t cancel within 2 hours.
Please replace some of the locker, some of them don’t close properly
Muay-Thai;
Thai pads are in extremely poor and frankly dangerous conditions, the velcro has completely lost it’s grip, gym tried to fix it with duct tape, but that’s an unsafe solution against powerful punches and kicks, my elbow starts to flare up because I can’t take the impact direct on the pads so my tendons get the worst of it, when the pads are flailing about.
Please please, fix the velcro on the Thai pads or better yet get hook and loop ones, they won’t come undone as often. Too much time wasted trying to adjust Thai pads weak velcro grip during class, it takes away from the training.
No sparring or semi-sparring in the Muay-Thai class, leaves you feeling unprepared for the sparring session and there is too big of difference in the sparring class demands and normal lessons, which don’t prepare you at all for resisting opponents.
Spend at least 5-10 min semi-sparring, like 3 for 3 in the normal class.
Your Muay-Thai is no good unless you can do it against a resisting opponent, it’s bad for learning self-defence too. MT classes need more work on clinching, clinch throws and knees.
BJJ;
Music is way too loud during class, move speaker away form class area so I can hear instructions in the BJJ class. It’s not needed so close to the class area. Detailed instruction are completely missed, especially because he speaks fast, potentially unsafe.

I absolutely love this place. The coaches and staff are all really friendly and helpful and take time to get to know the people who go there. This has created a real community feeling in this gym.
The gym does Muay Thai, Boxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, MMA and strength and conditioning classes along with a weights area if you prefer to just come along and do weights only or hit the punch bags. They also do sparring sessions for the more experienced fighters.
Each class is extremely well taught by experienced instructors who take their time to explain things and help. You will find the vast majority of the class will also happily help you learn and refine your technique when you are paired with them too. The classes not only help you learn whatever you are doing but is a really great cardio workout too!
It doesn't matter if you have never done this before or are experienced, it caters for all levels and each person is made to feel just as welcome as the next and you and you will find yourself picking it up in no time.
Absolutely incredible gym in the heart of the city with no egos at all! Highly recommend this place!

I train Jiu-Jitsu here and have been a member for around 8 months.
The coaches are great; giving focused attention to all different levels and ability whilst installing a level of respect for the discipline! There are also a number of seminars hosted in the gym, allowing members to get experience with different coaching styles and specific technical skills.
There are a wide range of members so you always have someone new to practice/ spar with keeping you sharp! The gym has a friendly, welcoming team ethos that includes everyone from the casual grappler to the medal chasers.
The class times work well for anyone working a 9-5, with sessions before and after work with 45 minute lunchtime sessions most days of the week. Additionally team members often meet around classes to drill techniques/ work on specific moves.
Overall a friendly, accommodating gym with very knowledgable and skilled coaches!

I’ve trained Jiu Jitsu here for almost two years and I absolutely love this gym. I tried a few places beforehand but every coach was either dissentrested during training, or unwelcoming to new people. The head coaches here put the students first in every way, and give 100% during every session. It’s a tough but friendly environment and both the coaches and students feel like family.

I seriously, SERIOUSLY love this gym and highly recommend it. It has the most friendly atmosphere you can imagine, where people greet and encourage each other. For an introvert like me who struggles with self esteem issues, I always avoided the gym especially the weight lifting section, but every day I am excited to come here and put in the work. And rest assured, I will be training here for years to come.

Friendly gym with excellent black-belt BJJ coaches and great powerlifting facilities. There's a good sense of community and a big group of BJJ practitioners of all belt levels.
I have heard good feedback on the Muay Thai/Boxing/MMA classes too. I can't personally rate them, but I do know that the competition teams perform well.
They offer a trial session, so if you're unsure just come and try a class!

Really great place. I attend the Muay Thai classes and love the atmosphere. The coaches (Jimi and Leon) have great approach and very supportive attitude, which is very important to me. I previously attended fight gyms in which the atmosphere was much less friendly, so Fight City really stands out for me.
As for the gym itself, the space is very intelligently arranged. There is ample room for practice, and the locker rooms and showers are CLEAN, which does not happen very often.
I fully recommend it.

This is by far one of the best gyms in London for it's equipment, range of classes, friendly atmosphere & decent prices.
It's easy to get to from Liverpool Street, Moorgate or Old Street tube stations.
I've used the gym & been to the Krav Maga, Muay Thai & MMA Conditioning classes. They have fantastic instructors who impart their great skills & knowledge in their own unique & motivational way.
I highly recommend this gym to a novice or a seasoned professional - it has something for everyone.

Probably one of the best gyms in London been here for 2 years. Really good training for advanced and beginners depending on what you're after. I've moved job & house further west of London which makes it alot harder for me to still come to the gym but I'm finding it very hard to leave.

Checked this gym out for the first time yesterday. Having trained at a number of traditional boxing clubs, muay thai schools and "City Style" upmarket MMA gyms around London I can genuinely say that this is the best gym I have been to in terms of equipment. Everything you could need in terms of weights including olympic lifting equipment and a runway for pushing weighted sleds down which was amazing! Great heavy bags, boxing ring, pads, mats if you're looking to do fight training and the personal trainer I visited there was brilliant. Would highly recommend and I'm looking to join soon. It is also significantly cheaper than other upmarket gyms of it's nature so I really can't fault the place! Check it out.

Great gym with really good people, the Jiu Jitsu crowd are really nice and friendly people and classes are suitable for competitors and casual practitioners alike. Can’t praise the coaches enough either, Alain Pozo and Sarah Merriner really put there hearts into every lesson.

I trained in a few gyms over my training life and I don't think there has been a gym that correctly combines my gym aspirations into one package. From martial arts sessions to a fully equipped powerlifting gym its geared towards helping you perform better.
From the minute you enter the door you understand that this is a gym which allows you to reach your training goals. It also has attracted in my opinion people of the same mind set who want to train hard and achieve results.
This is not a gym for yummie mummies looking for a spa day... Its for men and women who want to improve.

I have been training BJJ at Fight City Gym for just over a year now and I can't recommend this place enough.
I had wanted to try Jiu Jitsu for a long time, but there are no local clubs in my home town, so I decided to look for somewhere close to work. I came across Fight City Gym and went for a taster session. Initially I just used the gym facilities (which are excellent btw) and got orientated with the layout. Then I took the plunge and signed up for my first class.
It seems very daunting at first, but one thing that Jiu Jitsu teaches you is persistence. That and to leave your ego at the door.
Head Coach Alain Pozo provides a no-nonsense, pragmatic approach that is simple to learn and effective. I also take classes with Sarah Merriner who is equally as effective in her tuition. My fitness, as well as knowledge of technique is growing rapidly and I feel more confident with each class.
However, the thing that has blown me away most is the camaraderie and friendship amongst all the students. It doesn't matter whether you have been going for years, or it's your first class. All are welcome. It doesn't matter whether you are young, old, male, female, etc. if you want to try, you can. The range of skills and ability is huge. From white belts to black belts, from complete novices, to National champions. You will meet them all on the mats.
There is a huge amount of help available for new students from everyone you train with, you just have to ask. There is an unwritten code to try and help each other improve and progress. If you are humble and accept the lesson, then there is a mountain of knowledge to be gained from your peers. And some great friendships too. The people make the club and I can't emphasise how important that element is.
So whether you are a BJJ, Muay Thai, boxing, or MMA fanatic. Or maybe you just want to get fit and in shape. Get yourself to Fight City Gym.
You won't regret it!

For me, Fight City Gym is the perfect place to train my favourite martial arts and reach my fitness goals. The gym is located a short walk from Liverpool Street station which is close to my work and is conveniently open early in the morning till late at night. There's a full range of equipment there, loads of free weights and machines, a large rolling area for MMA/BJJ and also a mini ring for sparring. I take the boxing, muay thai, BJJ and MMA classes regularly and the instructors are all high grade and best of all, lessons are included in the membership at no extra cost! I'd certainly recommend it for anyone both guys and girls who is interested in looking for a fully equipped, modern and friendly gym.

Amazing gym, if you are looking to get fit, train for mma/boxing or just push yourself that little bit more the atmosphere, equipment and energy in here is perfect. The location and price makes it all pretty much the perfect gym for anyone in the area or commuting across London from the east. Worth checking out at the very least if you are near by.

I have been a member for the past 8 months.I joined Fight City having been a member at Gymbox.I left Gymbox for a number of reasons but mainly because it wasn't a very friendly or welcoming environment. Combat sports can be intimidating and starting out can be a tentative experience. However the team at Fight City were amazing. Everyone was so welcoming and seemed genuinely excited to pass on their knowledge. I started off with the intent of learning BJJ as I was a little hesitant to do MMA or Boxing, frankly I was worried about getting beat up. After a short while my initial apprehensions dissipated and I now regularly do some sort of striking class. All of the instructors are legitimate coaches and compete in there chosen disciplines, so you know the techniques they teach are field tested. I found all the training partners to be super respectful and generally great guys/girls. I could not recommend Fight City more and the variety of boxing, kickboxing and grappling classes will keep you fully occupied as well as get you in great shape. The facility is one of the best I've seen, with a full cage/rolling area as well as Olympic lifting stations and a boxing ring. You won't find better.

Solid gym, great range of equipments including olympic plates, barbells, dumbells and kettbells.
Includes punchbags and ring. Great trainers with an excellent depth of knowledge and experience.
It does get quite busy betwen half 5 and 7.

Have trained bjj here for about 6 months. Great competitive environment. Everyone really wants to push hard and perform to a high standard. Coaches are second to none and great at pushing the students. Highly recommended.

Had an issue with my bank resulting in me having to cancel suddenly, these guys were very understanding of the situation and we were able to sort it out. The gym itself is a great place to train, and is the only place I've found in the area that's properly kitted out with olympic platforms and bars, strongman equipment etc

I had a fantastic massage with Meridian Massage and I highly recommend it! Really worked the muscles which were tight from stress. But didn't hurt. I'll definitely go back
D. K.
Excellent facilities and friendly staff.
I use the studio for dance classes which is very roomy and with air conditioning (some don't!). Only thing is theres a large pillar in the middle of the studio. But compared to other studios in central London this comes at a good price

Really friendly, welcoming environment. Started BJJ classes here 3 months ago for the first time and loving it still. Recommend Wednesday no gi with Tommy!
