I love this place. Joined recently but have been pretty much every day. I'm still working from home but make the 1hr round trip in because it's such a great gym. The staff are awesome which gives the place such a friendly vibe. The equipment is top notch and there's lots of it. It's super spacious and bright and airy, unlike most other gyms around Liverpool Street. Their music thing is great too - the first gym I've been to where I don't need to use my own headphones to drown out bad noise. 10/10 all round!

As a woman you can feel quite intimated walking in to gyms these days but my experience at John Reed has been so pleasant. it didn't feel like a male dominated atmosphere which is nice for a change.
The equipment is absolutely stunning, I love how adjustable everything is as compared to cheaper equipment that some of the other gyms provide.
The female Changing rooms are so beautiful ill defeintly be spending allot of time at this gym.

Walking in makes me want to exercise, the vibe is so fun and staff are really friendly! The gym is spacious, equipment is brand new and being able to use the sauna after a workout is amazing. Amazing location too right by Liverpool Street station.

Not really one to enjoy working out in a gym environment but John Reed fitness has definitely changed my mind on that one! Lovely environment to work out and really get in the zone, as well as superb equipment which is all top quality! Definitely recommend checking this place out , I’ve already told all my mates about it!

Superb gym for what I need but missing some bits for what it really needs to succeed in the wider London market. Would love to see John Reed open more in London, as have seen their clubs in Germany and they are also fantastic!
+Friendly and polite staff, always a hello on welcome
+Great atmosphere
+Love the art and attention to detail on design of fixtures and fittings
+A gym you actually want to be in rather than dread the session ahead
+Prime location at Liverpool Street station
+Not crowded, plenty of equipment
+Very clean, which is great and this is often an issue in many London clubs
+DJ's on some nights, and when there isn't a DJ they play great music anyway
+Fantastic 'Gym80' equipment all round. Really good quality, nice design and a good range. Some I've never seen in a UK gym before.
+If you are into boxing, really impressive boxing ring/studio facilities
+The sauna is amazing! One in each changing rooms. The sauna in some gyms can be not very clean. Here they are kept spotless.
-An odd design with reception upstairs. A fantastic huge space downstairs but often empty as you'd have to leave to use the space, and I never carry my card on the gym floor. The reception team do open the gates for you though. Would make more sense to have reception downstairs and really utilise that space better.
-No dedicated stretching area but mats are available to use.
-Not something I enjoy, but 'spin' is arguably the most popular class in London, and there is no spin classes/studio which could likely put some people off.
-For some, 36kg as the maximum weight dumbbell may be not ideal.
-Only the one mirror space and one hairdryer in the male changing rooms. Also, for a more premium priced gym, would be nice to offer conditioner in showers also.
-Just the one water dispenser in the club.
-Disappointing that I requested an induction/Body Comp test early December which was advertised as a member benefit, followed up a couple of weeks later as didn't get a reply and never got a response. Instead went on a guest pass visit to Gymbox with a friend who gave me some tips.
-Towels are not included in the basic membership. A shame as at that price point at GymBox, Nuffield Health and Virgin Active, you do get towels.

Great Experience
Staff is great, machines are all completely new and they are really high quality.
Imran took me through a induction and was very helpful, also I love the sauna to finish up my session. Great for the mind and body

Such an amazing gym with top quality equipment. Felt really comfortable working out here. All the staff were really helpful and they have some really good instructors. The sauna is huge (my favourite part) and I love the hot yoga!

Wonderfully presented gym, top of the range equipment and beautifully clean throughout. The interiors are incredibly Instagram-worthy and the changing / showering facilities are alike to being in a top spa rather than a gym! Conveniently located next to Liverpool St station making this gym easily accessible. Staff are friendly and professional, always on hand to help. Cannot rate & recommend this gym enough.

I don’t even know where to start, first the gym it’s self is gorgeous. The machines are amazing, gym is always clean, the decor is eye catching and popping.
The trainers and customer service agents are real courteous and professional. It’s a great place that’s motivated me to workout daily. Not too crowded and the setups are really spaced out very well.

GERMAN QUALITY IN THE UK 🇩🇪🇬🇧
• I know the brand John Reed from Germany and was super excited when I saw that they are opening in London just around the corner from my house at Liverpool Street
• Of course JR is known for their nice interior but on top of it I am happy about the German hygiene standard in the gym that I‘ve missed when I moved to the UK.
• Equipment is state of the art
• I find it a bit tricky that there are no signs on the machines showing the name of the machine or instructions on how to use it. If you‘re more on the introverted gym-goer side this could feel quite overwhelming because you don‘t know how to use it properly but also there is no name so you can‘t Google the instructions.
• The lockers and changing rooms are modern, you don‘t need a padlock
• Sauna room seemed like a nice bonus but I think might get too packed if many people start signing up
• Nice water machine
• Staff is friendly

Decent gym but overpriced.
This gym is priced towards the luxury end of the market. However they kind of miss the point on what makes a gym "luxury". The gym has a very nice interior design (but who cares?!), A pretty decent range of equipment, nice boxing ring and a nice atmosphere. But otherwise this is essentially a budget gym. The weights / equipment are slightly lower quality to Puregym, the cardio equipment is not good at all, only a couple of squat racks, and lots of empty space that could be filled with more equpitment. The gym also does not have a proper spa, only a sauna, and the showers are very bad,.

Found this gym to be brilliant, new and clean equipment friendly staff especially Nate (I think that was his name). Easy to access. Would defo recommend!!

Gave this a try on the TimeOut two week trial offer. While it all looks nice at first glance with fresh equipment and an interesting decor, that's kind of where it ends.
I'm not sure who designed the gym space, but it's just bizarre. There's a huge ground-floor area which is a odd mix of a shop/weights area. But the thing is, you don't actually swipe into the gym until you go up the stairs. So the ground floor part feels unusable, as you'd need to swipe in/out every time you access it. (Would have made much more sense to put the reception/turnstiles on the ground floor and fully utilize both the ground and first floors.)
As others have mentioned, the weight selection isn't huge and there aren't enough full cable machines. There's a number of decent weight machines, but even they felt a bit limited and boring after a few visits.
I also found it really odd that there are no mats / dedicated stretching areas. I asked a staff member where I could stretch and they said to use the (one) studio, but that was in use at the time.
As others have mentioned, the showers and changerooms completely miss the mark. When I first visited, the showers were fully exposed and communal (I mean, who in their right mind builds a luxury gym with communal showers in 2021?). Apparently multiple complaints resulted them in adding black shower curtains to solve the issue. But sorry, that's not good enough. There's also the issue of cheap soap/shampoo, and the only extra facility is a sauna. The locker areas are cramped and dark, and there's one mirror area for the entire men's changeroom.
I had high hopes for this gym, but it appears they didn't do their due diligence in what the local London market expects from a 'luxury' gym. Instead, they expected that their model used overseas in other locations would just translate here. But it doesn't, and certainly not at that price.
I feel sorry for the staff who are trying to remain upbeat, but it would appear that they're struggling to entice members. It's a shame, as this space has the potential to be great, right in the heart of The City and on top of Liverpool St Station. But it needs a bit of a rethink and reprice in line with neighbouring gyms.
I hear they're planning to open other branches in the West End and Vauxhall, and I wish them all the best. But I would urge whoever manages the UK operation to spend some time in other high-end London gyms to see what the competition offers, and naturally, what potential clients would expect for the prices they're being asked to pay.

I think the gym is phenomenal, the space is beautiful and they have the greatest machines. The service provided by the staff ( Nathan) was very welcoming and friendly!

Nicest gym I’ve joined and the team are amazing. Classes haven’t reached capacity so it’s been great attending classes with just 2-3 people

Amazing gym. The decor is just sensational.
I was curious about the classes they are offering. Therefore, I went to a HIIT class with the lovely Zarina who is absolutely adorable. She created such a great energy during the class. It was very enjoyable and fun. And a great workout! I also went to a Hot Yoga class and felt amazing afterwards. The teacher was just so lovely as well.
All in all, highly recommend.

EDIT: Changed review from 4* to 5* after JR's response. Thank you! It's great to see you guys taking on board customer feedback and making changes. Really is a great gym!

This gym is awesome! The equipment is very nice, there is a huge range of machines, some machines I've never even seen before—you can tell it is all very high quality equipment. And obviously the decor is stunning and has had a lot of thought put into it. It's super clean and well maintained, never seems too busy (so far) and the staff are all lovely and welcoming. Overall it has a great vibe and awesome music (plus a DJ some evenings of the week).
However, as a premium gym I feel like it's the attention to finer details that really makes something feel worthy of being premium and worth the money, and some of this I feel has been overlooked...
In terms of equipment:
• the dumbbell weights only go up to 36kg
In terms of the men's changing room / facilities:
• the shower curtains are very thin material / see-through, and when closed block out most of the light inside the shower so you have to shower in the dark.
• The generic body/hair soap feels poor quality, there should be body wash, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion provided.
• There is only one hair dryer in the men's changing room. Shouldn't have to wait to dry my hair.
I would love to see John Reed take on-board some of this feedback as I can see some of these points have already been mentioned in previous reviews. However, aside from the above points, it is an outstanding gym and would definitely recommend.

This gym is simply amazing. 5/5

Nice gym in a great location. Not too busy, lots of kit well spaced out.
Shame they added curtains/doors to the showers...the original open plan setup was much better!! Then again I am part French and have no issues showering in front of others.
