Reviews of Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre
J. W.
I enjoy exercising at the Peckham Pulse. Equipment is cleaned often by users so nice and clean. Equipment is maintained to a high standard and I get good results for the improvements I wish to make. There is a nice atmosphere there and people are in good spirit and respectful. Staff are friendly and professional. Toilets are kept nice and clean. I was pleasantly surprised. Only thing I would fault is, it seems like there is no aircon in the studios. Struggle to breathe during classes. Overall good experience. 😌

Just called regarding a refund - my call taken within reasonable time, by polite member of staff, who resolved my issue IMMEDIATELY. I have in years past paid private membership fees at clubs whose staff tried very hard to make me feel like a speck of dust on the underside of their very expensive footwear, to work out with fellow members whose very mien was arrogant and unwelcoming. So what am I saying? PPLC is a community treasure, which, whilst it may need some fine-tuning, is very much appreciated (staff, facilities and majority of fellow-users), or am I the only one remembering lockdown?
J. R.
The staff at Peckham pulse are so friendly and helpful. This gym stands out as one of my favourite places in Peckham as it is so welcoming it feels like you are really part of the community, which can be a rare thing to find in such a large city.

The good points
*some great gym classes but some are ridiculously over subscribed. Why not raise the pay scale for staff for the more popular classes and they might do more sessions. Definitely need another step class in the evenings.
*pool is good with nice steam room but as its very popular it gets busy
*gym is well equipped but not all the staff are that Friendly
The bad points
* no kettle bells in gym- I had a word with a staff member about this and they said they were locked away cause it's peckham. However you can get them in Dulwich
*some of the calibre of people that attend here really bring the place down. It seems to be mainly on the free swim and gym days which are on Friday's and Saturday afternoons. Litter in the locker room and on the floor. It's a shame cause it only takes a few bad ones to spoil it for the majority of those who do really appreciate the free scheme. They need to have more staff to better police
*also some of the regular members have this I don't have to pick up after myself attitude. When I have arrived in the mornings there are massive weights scattered everywhere it's the mentality of some members that ruin it for everyone and they don't consider the danger. They need to have zero tolerance one month ban policy to people who can't be bothered to clear up after themselves no exceptions.
*they really need a coffee shop there is so much wasted space on the ground floor and mid floors.
I don't think this centre will improve unless they improve some of the clientele therefore I don't think they will ever be able to justify price increases.

It's actually a decent gym, with 3 power racks and lots of machines. It's pretty good value in that respect.
With that said, the air con is usually non-functioning in the summer and the hot water usually goes off for days at a time in the dead of winter. If you NEED to shower at the gym in January, you'll have to be strong.
Otherwise, it's a nice atmosphere, the staff are generally quite friendly and so are the other patrons. Especially the senior swimmers and gym-goers who're there first thing in the morning. I also like that the bike stands are right next to the main entrance.
And it's worth mentioning that the gym is really nice at sunrise, all bathed in orange light. If I still worked in the area I'd probably still train here.

Recently joined the gym. The staff on reception, the membership team and the gym staff were really friendly and helpful. The facilities are good and since Everyone Active took over, the gym space is much better and all the facilities are much cleaner and well maintained (although they really need to sort the lockers in the swimming area). So far so good!

As a whole i really do like this gym. The other clients are friendly and helpful, the thursday night boxercise class is awesome and i think there is a good variety of classes if you can get into them.
However, the main swimming pool is always so so so cold. The changing rooms are filthy and smells so bad. The steam room is always broken and the air con in the studio is never on. The receptionists never answer the phones, the online app always fails. You have to cancel a class 4 hours before the class starts although the app says 20mins. This gym could be so much better than is it if they put the effort into it

Good local fitness centre.
There is a sauna and steam room by the pool, so that's a plus.
The gym equipment is more modern than the one used at Seven Islands (run by the same company).
The hydrotherapy pool is also great to use and unwind in after your workout (if you manage to work out the timetables that is).

UPDATE 2019
the new swimming pool is great and sauna/steam room are better now.
But the hygiene is still a masive a pb. locker room is always disgusting people leave their shoes on, when a simple rule to stricly restrict the shoes inside would do. There is nothing the clean the steam room after you have been in there...weird.. seems quite a common thing in EVERY c=other COUNTRIES tunisia, japan, iceland, all have basic simple rules for hygiene. but then there's here at peckham pulse ..
I gave a new star because staff at reception is way nicer than it was and becausse of the new equipment.
2016:
Great gym with great trainers I love Claire and all the swimming pool staff is very nice!
The bad side of the gym is the girls at the reception as they are not helpful... since I started I only got problems with the receptionists they are not calm and seem easily overwhelmed and agressive and rarely say hello or goodbye. If it was just a matter of being polite but no its also because they are not very competent I took a join membership with my bf asking if I could stop the membership just for me for a month before registering and the girl said yes then when the moment came up it wasn't possible... So i tried to stop the procedure but surprise my membership was suspended for two months...
The second month they also charged Me twice...
As much as I love going to the gym there I am most of the time ennoyed by the attitude of the staff at the desk and it is the first and last image that you have from the place. It's too bad for customer service.

A great gym and an improved soft play for young children. The gym has been redesigned and is now easier to get from place to place but one thing that could be improved is the amount of gym equipment that is there. There could be more. The pool is a great place to relax and the whole place has improved from what is was.

Went for a kids party it was abit disorganized like a convey belt. The last party over ran so our kids got less play time and the food room was in great need of a revamp to look more like a party.
The party room was really run down and looked almost dirty, the room did have a little sink and cupboards though to wash dishes etc.
It would be nice if they offered party food, considering the price to rent the venue but the kids had an awesome time playing.
Then we got shoved out because another party had arrived early. They need to leave 15mins or Soo between bookings to clean out the place properly.

I take my son to the soft play after he does swimming lessons (these are fantastic!) in a hydrotherapy pool with some very good teachers. Sometimes the staff seem unaware of their job roles but over all I do have a good experience.
B. L.
I visited for the soft play, which has been recently rebuilt. It was excellent and the kids had a great time. One thing to note- some of the softplay area extends out of the line of site so is suitable for slightly older children. There is a more toddler suitable section below.

Went for the first time this evening. Kind and helpful guy on the front desk, considerate swimmers in the pool and great to use the sauna and steam facilities. Great experience!
V. H.
Recently refurbished, swimming pool is a good size to swim, hydro pool a good place to exercice, new facilities such a sauna and a steaming room are nice. However the changing rooms, showers and toilets are really dirty and worth a better maintenance.
G. B.
I have been a member for nearly a year now. I really appreciate the help of jennifer who is a member of gym staff . She is a great employee who is always there to help .She is always around and handles things in a professional manner. She is kind and friendly and makes my gym visit a pleasure
L. G.
It's improved vastly since Everyone Active took over from Fusion - changing rooms and showers given a complete overhaul, plus a refurb of the spinning and yoga studios. It still has its issues however, mainly with instructors not showing up for classes, and cancelling at short notice. Last time I went, we sat in the room waiting 15 minutes for the instructor. Eventually someone ran down to ask at reception. Reception could have sent someone up to inform us but they seem to take the attitude that we'll just figure it out ourselves. Also, they've cancelled most of the 7.15pm spinning classes, which is useless for those of us who work typical 9-6 jobs in other parts of town. I've started going to Camberwell, which has a much better spinning studio and offers Les Mills Stages classes with VismoX monitoring.
E. H.
Janine or whatever her name is, in reception IS THE WORST animal in the world. The way she deals with customers is beyond appalling. I will never know how she got the job, something needs to be done about her she can not work there.
Just an update so sorry its late - thank you so much to the manager at this branch who resolved this matter and got rid of inadequate staff. Other than that, this branch is amazing and the people are lovely. Thank you Luke for helping us out.
N. M.
Listen if you want a clean, quite, civilised place to exercise then PO to somewhere private. If you live public gyms this is a top one. All brand new this year or last, everything you need including spa.
C. G. S.
Polite and understanding staff, no one shouts at you. Plenty space to swim and workout. FREE WATER IN THE GYM, no joke. They have a water fountain so you can drink as much water as you want.
T. S.
Front of house staff are always great - really efficient and welcoming.
L. O.
The service is good, but in terms of communication between the provider and the customer it is quite limited. If you show up to the front desk they give you some information, then they referrer you to the website to complete the task and what you find there is not congruent with that you have been told.
V.
My kids love the new softplay. But beware, you need to call on weekends because they have parties there and its not big enough to hold a party and regular visitors to the softplay. you could get there to use it at 1 and have to wait till 2 cos there is a party.
C. L.
Fantastic recently refurbished facilities and a team that is happy to help and provide a positive vibe that really aids in exercise. Also great for children of all ages with a range of activities for both the young and old.
M. R.
I train in gyms all over london during the week, and every weekend I come back to the pulse. It has everything you need for your workout, be it muscle building or fat loss. Can be a bit crowded during peak times. Annoyingly seems to run out of handsoap too often, and you need to wrap tissue around handles on certain machines due to the grime. All in all, this is my favourite gym in South London, mainly down to the 2 olympic barbell racks.
E. A.
Just went for the soft play, which was reasonably priced, clean and well maintained. Pleasant staff though long queues at entry counter for some reason. No on site cafe which is a bit of a pain.
N. N.
It is a very good facility to use staff are helpful, the classes are amazing so much to do. For what I pay I have endless choice.
Great place to work out.
J. C.

The place has been refurbished few months ago. It looks stunning and clean. Lovely staff, always in hand to help their customers. So I give 5 stars .
V. W.
We went to the kids' soft play area. Very nice but smaller than the old one. Great for very little children (under 5s?).
L.
Love the hydro poll and the staff are cool, however the woman's changing rooms smell unfortunately.
L. A.
Took my two children swimming here for the first time, loved the baby pool and water was perfectly warm.
O. S.
Can’t believe how jamming the place is! It’s got all you want + glass rooftop so you swim in the pool in rays of sun.
B. B.
Good facility and choice of exercise equipment. Some of the staff not too knowledgeable though. 4/5 overall 😀
L. C.
Good pool. Recently renovated changing rooms. Still bit smelly.
m. b.
