Reviews of PureGym London Aldgate
C. H.
Attended the cycling class 01/12 at 07:15 AM - and the trainer was outstanding. I usually go to Piccadilly, Tower Hill & Whitechapel - but the trainer here was far beyond all of those. He was enthusiastic, motivating, high energy, great music & positive energy. Definitely my new gym of choice. Also when I first entered the gym I had asked him for the changing rooms & he was overall very helpful & kind. Hope he gets the recognition he deserves!
Edit: Would give 5 stars if the gym was open on the weekends! Come on guys :-)
J. H.
I go to this gym a couple of times a week. It is what it is -really basic, no frills. Two floors (cardio and weight machines/ free weights, TRX, cable machine). Free use of towels included. Crowd is mostly professionals who work in the city. No dodgy or sleazy people, also no instragmmers.
Hygiene is a bit questionable - no one every wipes down anything and some things (like the boxes) just look gross. It would certainly improve -especially in covid times - if cleaning staff would really wipe down equipment so it also looks clean.
C. L. O.
Very clean and spacious Gym, with lots of equipment and best of all the studio with RGB led lighting and AC with Les Mills equipment.
The changing rooms (female) had been refurbished and there are new showers. Peeks of this gym are free to use towels (they need to be returned), shampoo/body wash and conditioner in the showers, flavoured water dispenser (if you are subscribed to the premium plus) and QR code touchless entry.
The only thing sadly, is that Les Mills classes have been taken off.

I’ve been a member at PureGym Aldgate for a while now. The gym is absolutely brilliant, ample space and always very tidy and clean. A big thank you to Fitness Coach Helena. She is always very attentive, welcoming and helpful. She has given me lots of helpful advise relating to fitness and training. Helena is certainly a very valuable asset to PureGym!

Good crossfit step up, facilities and equipment. Easily facilitate most crossfit, strength training, and cardiovascular work WODs. The team is very welcome, Jess is very helpful and professional, helping with access to the gym. Highly recommended!
s.
Good space and equipment but lacking a stair machine. It's also £10 extra + extra if you're a plus member AND it's not even open on the weekends so... I don't think my membership here will last!
m.
A good branch of this chain gym. Towels are provided, a good amount of equipment for bikes, running machines and weights. The bikes here different from other PureGym branches and I rarely use them as it's hard to compare.
Closed at weekends though.

My gym was closed, so I came here. Really enjoyed my workout. All the equipments are updated and the space is very good. Well impressed with this place. Thank you
N. S.
Its ok with descent equipment but the low ceilings in free weight area makes it feel a little cramped. During busy periods its to populated for a feeling of freedom whilst training. Offers towel and good changing rooms though with good cardio eqipment
T.
Well kept and decently equipped gym. Biggest plus is the very good basement functional area and the availability of towels upon arrival
H. J.
All round one of the best pure gyms in this area, lots of space, very clean and a big selection of machines, plate loaded machines and free weights
W. B.
I am a puregym member since 2 years.
Thanks to Marshall, one of the personal trainers in this gym, I had one of my best experience with puregym.
I planned to run 20km all around London, after 13km I realized that I need to stop somewhere to refresh myself.
When arrived in puregym Aldgate my pin code wasn’t working, honestly I was a bit surprised about that.
Marshall was there ready to give me the best support I could get after running 13km.
He helps me and explained all the options I have with my membership. He took me inside the gym, showed to me where I can get fresh water before going back to my 20km run.
I have seen many puregym, but this one in Aldage is really nice inside and thanks to Marshall I will definitely come back for a full training session.

For the price , this gym is spot on. Good weights equipment across two floors. Lots of cardio machines and classes done my euthastic and friendly trainers
Get towels and gel for the showers which is a nice tough for a pure gym . Is very busy around 6 most nights but so are most gyms
D. H.
Really good gym with great staff. The place is clean, modern and does not smell like some gyms do! The classes are good and I found the staff helpful and friendly. Complimentary towels and shower gel, want more could you want!? Also of note the customers are the type I want to be around. Mixed 50/50 men to women so I think women fell comfortable using the gym and there is a lack of attitude here amongst the guys which I like. It's a work gym so no one really 'hanging out' people do their exercise and get off to work or home.
P. F.
Clean, plenty of kit and space. Usually quiet when I go. Towel service is a bonus.
A. H.
Spin class is great! Highly recommend spin with Steve if you are into cycling. Really well sized studio for classes, lots of space in the gym especially if you get in outside of peak time. Love the functional space downstairs, and the variety of equipment. Staff are friendly and approachable and members are generally well mannered also. Good atmosphere for a budget gym. Big bonus is the towel service!
A. S.
The largest gym I've ever been to. I never have to wait for any machine or equipment, the floors are spacious and there's all the equipment that I need for my training. There are several free classes for every need. The changing room is clean and large, lockers are clean and spacious, showers are great and there's plenty of hair dryers. Bring a lock to close the locker - if you don't have any you can buy one from the vending machine.
P. S.
Be aware that this gym is Always full from 5 to 7pm .
Men's room is always with towels on the floor.
Some machines are being repaired for months.
However they have a good range of machines and 2 floors
S. Q.
Can't complain given price and location. It's functional area was a bit stale but a revamp has radically changed it. There are so many squat racks now that you can probably find one at its busiest!
Only thing missing for me, is an airbike. Apart soon that, excellent gym
M. G.
Fabulous gym, great location, very clean, simply great!
J. B.
I've been going to this gym since it was LAX Aldgate a few years ago (then acquired by PureGym). It's very well equipped and if you avoid the busiest times (lunchtime and evening) it's pretty comfortable. The gym has 2 floors with equipment plus dedicated rooms for classes. A number of personal trainers work there and I'd recommend Ivan Raynovski for weightlifting - I've worked with him since I joined there and he's amazing!
M. L.
I found this a good choice looking for a budget gym. Michelle, a manager, was very nice and quite helpful in clearing up some membership issues. Note that the gym is a pretty typical city gym, with a lot of stuff fit into a smallish space (but not as small as close by Fit4less). Very crowded at lunch hours, but there is a lot of cardio equipment. The weight area and the mens' changing areas are the most crowded. So if you are lifting and can go earlier or later, much easier. Nice to have towels supplied.
L. R.
I moved office to around this area last month and so changed to this gym. It is generally nicer then other puregyms as the equipment has functionality to watch TV, they provide towels and it has a nice spacious feel, especially in comparison so some other basement Puregyms. The classes and trainers are good and have capacity for lots of people and for the cardio machines there are generally plenty available.
However the real downside is that there is no stairmaster at this gym! So when I want to use one I have to go to London Wall which is a bit of an inconvenience especially considering there is enough space for one.
H. S. (.
Even though tis gym is not as big as you would expect it to be, it still has a lot to offer because some gyms even though small, hardly offers any equipment. The price for this gym was amazing I used to be paying £20 a month and that's not even with a student discount.
D. F.
Was a good gym, but left as it was way too busy, at all times of the day. I think this started affecting my progress. I left and now pay double to do to another gym in the city, price may be the reason it's so busy, I really didn't like that it was so busy people would use a hallway to exercise, but they put an end to that before I left
A. S.
Spacious, very clean, good equipment, great staff. Used to go to the PureGym in shoreditch but changed my home gym to Aldgate 👍
R. S.
Pretty decent city gym, lots of cardio space and kit. The weights area is ok but it does get very crowded ..that isn't Pure Gym's fault though. Unfortunately you get the usual douchebags who hog weights machines then spend their time looking at their phone instead of working out.
Classes are good too.
There's a whole floor for that weird crossfit kind of exercise too.
P. I.
UPDATE: While I stand by this review and think the situation can be fixed. I have also visited the Finsbury park branch and it made me realise what I've got and that it can get a lot worse out there. Upgraded from 2 star to 3 star.
By far my favourite place in London to go and wait, queue and not work out.
Have you ever been 8th in the queue for a bench press? Join this gym, you'll barely get a chance to work out. Also it's one of the more expensive pure gym memberships because they charge you rent as you wait so much you practically live there.
If you're into cardio, tough!
You can't use the overcrowded, often broken treadmills or ellipticals, but nothing burns fat like PureRage™ when somebody leaves a sweaty spot open after waiting forever. The gym classes are great, always booked, nobody turns up.
The locker room? You build instant, deep friendships with people, it's so crowded it's intimate!
I bet you're wondering how crowded is this place really. Let me paint a picture, they have O2 WiFi, if you go around 18:00 there are no more IPs left so you can't connect that's around 250 people on two floors.
The only thing that keeps me going is their pineapple flavoured water dispenser that costs £4 with your membership.
Oh and it's a good location. And the keypad access pods are a great idea.
M. Z.
Excellent gym near my office with great kit from Technogym, including the PureStrength plate-loading machines (leg press, horizontal chest press and lat row a highlight), which are hard to find around the City!
The main floor weights room could do with an additional deadlifting/squatting platform, but otherwise this is a terrific place to pump some heavy iron.
v. p.
Good Points:
- free towels
- plenty of classes (that was the only reasons I signed up)
- Ladies changing room very clean
Negative:
- I don't like to seethrough shower in the ladies changing room
- closed during the weekend
- although it should be common sense, there should be some reminder on the floor to use the towels when exercising (the amount of people that don't it's ridiculous!)
- what happened to Body barr? That was my fav class :(
A. J. G.
I feel the need to write a review after having gone there just twice.
First the good. The website is fantastic, the home club and options on offer are brilliant, the ease of subscription and letting yourself in is great. So many other gyms insist you have "free PT sessions" where domesticated gym rates wax lyrical about toned this and buns of steel that, and then try to sell you expensive sessions after. The idea is you build up a dependency. Like drugs. But not with this.
That in itself gets a star for me. And the fact I have a rolling monthly contract.
The gym itself. It's OK. It's nothing special to be honest but for £39.99 it's basically exactly as good as you pay for.
Typical gym attracting a variety of different city boys. However if you are standing anywhere near a piece of equipment you will be asked constantly if it's in use. You could bring an old banana peel in, throw it infront of you and some tanned and toned twonk would eagerly ask you if that's "in use" and if he could "jump in" and do some reps on the banana. Then again in a Fitness First gym this would be followed by some advice on your "potassium levels" by an NVQ level 1 fitness 'enthusiast' before offering you a range of sessions of being shouted at for like sixty five pounds per hour.
In effect this gym will help you on your quick deflection/declination skills, as you have to develop that or there wouldn't be near enough time to get a set in.
I am glad I went for the multiclub option, having one ten minutes walk from my flat means that should I not be able to get on the stuff I need, all I have to do is leave the gym, change, return to my desk, rage out at colleagues for six hours while the pre-workout wears off and then sleepily head to the local Pure Gym to get pissed off about people doing exactly the same.
All in all basically exactly as you'd expect. Really it deserves 3.5 stars but I hit a PB today eating seven bananas in one set, so I'm in a good mood.
F. R.
No phone reception, buy equipment is alright. Not particularly impressed with the space as the equipment has to be sure over 2 floors, making it quite inconvenient. But the biggest problem is reception.. you can't train for long, in case you're expecting a call. It's a small investment if you ask me
M. A.
Very busy between 1700 and 2000 with all machines taken and classes taking place in both studios and the gym floor!! It felt almost like shopping on Oxford Street on a Saturday.
The crowd is mostly young professionals from the city. Classes are only 45 minutes long to keep things on schedule. It's underground so don't expect to have mobile reception, but they have free O2 WiFi.
S. M.
Excellent gym and very clean.
J. G.
Good gym. Tons of equipment, everything you might need. It does get very busy though so make sure you pick the time you attend carefully.
N. L.
Great gym, very close to Aldgate and Aldgate East tube stations. Great deal of equipment choice, only issue is it can be very busy during peak hours. Shower facilities are also great
l. B.
Amazing gym resources and amenities
A. M.
Had what I needed, not too busy and really easy to signup/access
D. P.
Nice open area with high ceilings and a lot of light. Even though the gym is underground it does not feel like it. There is plenty of equipment for any workout need.
Z. D.
Clean, friendly environment with the added bonus of fresh clean towels. Professional staff that's always on hand to help. Well appointed cleaning stations through the gym.
F. G.
Not being open during weekends, the hygienic state of most of the stuff (looking at you boxing gloves, please just don't offer classes like that) and the amount of people who is usually there is just not ideal. If you want to train after work freely, forget about this one, if you don't mind sharing, then give it a shot.
D. S.
Staff great and very friendly and helpful get a bit warm in the cardio and weights bit haven't used showers so can't comment Tesco extra right outside for before or after snack and v close to travel lodge
M. H.
Spacious and have lots of equipment. Place was clean and neat and they offer fresh clean towel which is a bonus.
P. W.
The gym is ok. It is very annoying to register via the two terminals.. I did not even receive my PIN. However I spoke to a very helpful lady on the phone !
D. B.
Great value gym, if you don't mind it being busy most of the the time. All the equipment you would expect for the price you pay.
I. B.
Decent gym. However, its real busy and not enough individual workout space. Lovely cardio section though.
S. S.
A little on the pricey side, but not too crowded and they give you towels. Not open weekends which was a pain, but one of the cleaner PureGyms with sufficient air ventilation.
