Reviews of PureGym London Camden
W. T.
2nd visit. So far so good. Always able to get a bench and my usual weights and workout sets. Wipe downs tissue and sprays are available too. :)
R. M.
Been a member of this gym for 3 years and just come to use the equipment. Since Anthony has become the new manager I have never felt so welcome at a gym and part of a community. Instantly greeted us with a smile and introduction and offered us any help or feedback we had to give back to improve our gym. This led to a good conversation in deadlifts in which he provided detailed advice to help me with my lifts.
I was in fact considering switching gyms to one cheaper and more local, but after speaking with Anthony I can see myself staying here for a long time and look forward to the future of this gym with the new manager at the wheel!
10/10 service :)
T. F.
I do enjoy this gym and I like the fact that they have so much equipment. However, my only gripe is the amount of weights that get left out. Often, I'm not able to train with the weights I'd like because they are left out. Maybe some more signs or a gentle persuasion to encourage people to return the weights after they use would be helpful.

Went to the gym this morning and ended up shaving some skin off my knuckle as i caught it on the trap bar - who'd have thought! Anyway it started to bleed very quickly so I needed a plaster but there were not any staff available to direct me to a first aid box. I spoke to one PT who was in the middle of a session. I felt bad approaching him but I needed a plaster, but he just told me to ask someone in the studio - who was in the middle of delivering a spin class, so no success there. I ended up wrapping my wound with paper towel while continuing my deadlifts! I think a first aid box needs to be made available to all gym users in a place accessible as staff are not always on hand to help. Otherwise it's a great gym!
A. C.
Good and clean gym, easy to use. Plenty of equipment and lots of space to get a good workout in Camden
m. f.
Nice gym cool atmosphere, only issue is not everyone returns their weights or people put weights in the wrong section otherwise I like the gym
R. T.
Great Gym, Great Classes and Everything. I was very pleased with the overall experience and positive attitude of instructors who paid attention to individual clients even in group classes. Hence this review.
L. C.
What's my qualification?
I have been a member since this place opened, used gyms in 4 different countries, now on my way to get ACE(American Council on Exercise) certificated.
Why I GIVE 4 stars?
1. I like that it is a 24 hour gym. Main positive reason for 4 stars. It benefits people who don't want to rush with crowd in the peak hours. But, if you like taking classes or can only go at peak hours, you might want to consider the changing room for men is under 6 sq meters.
2. The weights AND equipments are generally good. I used "generally" because PureGym has its own branded equipment that was lower quality than the other known brands like Technogym in my opinion. This gym uses both.
3. The weights can be disorganized. It might take you 2-3 mins to find proper weights. If you are normally on the 20kgs above, then it would be usually easier than the range below. But, many gyms at this price range has this issue.
The last thing is that, after Covid, I don't go as often. Not only the virus issue, but also I bought a set of dumbbells to do workout at home. I only use this gym for the heavier training that I can hardly do at home.
I hope this helps.
P. C.
Great 24h gym. Why did they remove the Total Abdominal machine though..
B. C.
Great gym! wicked Staff.
No one in there in terms of gym goers actually pay attention to anyone else meaning you can just get on with your workout
A. S.
Good gym but WAYYYY over subscribed for the size.
Pros:
- Good equipment range and quality
- Price is lower than most gyms in the area
- Location is great, right across from CT station
Cons:
- Men's changing rooms are generally unusable between 5-8 on weekdays. It's easier to come already in gym clothes if possible
- They seem to usually be out of sanitary wipes to wipe down the equipment, so the equipment is sometimes left sweaty which is pretty gross
- Not much staff so if you have an issue you can't really find anyone to talk to. Most people in the gym uniforms are actually PTs
- Personal for me, but they don't have full size foam rollers which most gyms have access to
Overall an okay choice especially if you can come at non-peak times, but I wish there were more options in the area
M. F.
This is a fine gym.
The bathrooms are filthy, the changing rooms are small, and the equipment place is cramped. Still, it's worth it for the price and the fact that's open 24/7. I only occasionally have to wait to use equipment, and this is the perfect place if you plan to shower at home.
C. F.
Overall a good gym. All new equipment, went in around 11.30am and was very quiet. Very small ladies changing rooms, and unisex toilets located on the gym floor which is not ideal - but a still very good gym!
A. B.
Decent gym - lots of facilities, lots of staff around and open windows overlooking Camden High Street - makes you feel like you're not exercising in a dungeon. Changing rooms are average - a little smaller and cramped than expected but overall it's a positive experience whenever I come.

I having been a member of Soho Gyms Camden for 14 years, I can highly recommend it. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Special mention goes to Natalia, the manager who is always on hand with a friendly smile to answer any questions you may have. At Soho Gym I feel they are genuinely interested in my fitness rather than simply collecting membership fees.
j.
This gym has a great atmosphere and is conveniently located opposite the tube station. It is spacious with a good selection of cardio machines, free weights and dynamic classes. The staff is super nice and encouraging . Awesome gym, wouldn't go anywhere else!
J. M.
An excellent gym for weights and training equipment. Well priced and excellent staff that actually know about body conditioning and training, who are genuinely happy to help and give you a thought-through programme. I would say the best gym in Camden, having tried a few others over the years. Would recommend.
N. V.
Great gym one of the best in London in terms of staff, equipment and never gets super crowed even in peak hour times. Is a huge open space with a great variety of training equipment including free weights, cables, machines and TRX as well as a huge yoga studio. All in all excellent gym. Will be back 150%
P. E. F.
It is a small space, but it is in a very central location. Changing rooms are too small, unfortunate again! Showers are okay, no shower gels though! Optimal time to go is mid morning 10am-12pm and early evening around 3pm-5pm or late night after 8pm. Else it's packed, you will be wandering around waiting for equipments and bumping into people!
V. M.
Its a good gym. Yes toilets could be cleaner but other than that lots of space, whitelines to remind about social distancing and lots of light from big windows.
C. C.
Friendly staff, loads of equipment, soap in the showers which is good! Towel service very helpful. They will also do a shake for you which is a nice touch when you have no time.
Highly recommend best gym in camden!!
r. d.
Opposite the tube station this is another branch of Soho Gyms. All on one level, the studio, weights and cardio machines are used predominantly by males. There are some big guys here, but no intimidatingly so. The classes are well attended by girls, and booking advisable for some of the more popular ones. The staff are friendly, the showers and changing room cleaned to a reasonable standard. Loud, energising music encourages you to have a good work out too!
K. K.
Had a casual workout here. Was greeted by the club manager natalia and she made me feel most welcome with a big smile and can do approach introducing me to other members of the team should I require any further assistance. Gym was clean and tidy and all the staff were friendly. Will definitely work out here again when I'm in camden.
A. B.
Convenient location, quite pricy compared to other pure gyms, small and always overcrowded even at 7am. But friendly staff
J. C.
This is a great gym, and I say that having used many more throughout the world. I've trained at Schwarzenegger's fave at Gold's Venice California, blitzed treadmills at New York's Crunch, mingled with the meatheads of Bethnal Green's Muscleworks (and its superior rival, Bodyworks in Tottenham). I've also sampled all 3 major budget brands, The Gym, EasyGym and Pure Gym. None have the all round qualities of this place.
The gym's set opposite the tube, an oasis looking down on the high street, in what used to be a snooker hall. What you have now are endless beams of natural light. This is something that budget gyms lack, instead feeling like claustrophobic office spaces. They also have cheap equipment. Camden's is a mix that's hand-picked and up to date. There's no single particular brand, which is ideal, as not all manufacturers produce good equipment in every category.
The free weights are plenty, with dumbbells from 1 to 50kg (110 pounds). There are squat racks, power racks, and a wooden lifting platform (including bumper plates) if you're into explosive movements. The machines are a mix of selectorized types, along with a dozen plate-loaded offerings (similar to Hammer Strength). Of course, there are plenty of benches and other bits too numerous to mention. There's also a large frame in the gym, useful if you like Crossfit or various types of pull-ups and leg raises.
Although I rarely use it, Camden has a bright aerobic studio, which is empty for large chunks of the day, and even the evening. Unlike many gyms that leave the door closed, there's a sign here encouraging you to use the space when no classes are on. It's an excellent studio, with no central pillars blocking your moves, and plenty of kit (including punch bags) to keep you entertained.
The gym is always clean, as are the changing rooms. Each one has a small sauna and showers. The staff clean throughout the day, but there's also a full-time cleaner, and a full-time maintenance guy.
And so to the staff and the atmosphere. Technically, it's a corporate gym, i.e. one of a chain, but it never feels like that. It feels like 'my club', and yet isn't snooty. This is a rare balance. You won't find the club feeling in any of the budget chains, that's for certain. There's a cool mix of members, young to old, every ethnicity, girls and guys. There are the regular Joes, the Crossfitters, the weekend warriors, the new, the experienced, and the unusuals. Hey, it's Camden!
Back to the atmosphere. I am certain that the great vibe isn't down to luck. The manager, Natalia, runs a tight ship, and that keeps the gym a place you feel very comfortable in. Again, budget gyms massively lose out in this way, as their main goal is cheap membership and low overheads. This means few staff, and without a captain, their ship is a mess. Dumbbells everywhere, broken equipment, messy toilets, nasty members and no sense of order. Camden is WAY ahead in this department, and as said, it's down to the manager. What's refreshing is that Natalia actually works out, something rare in chains. The membership manager, Aftab, is utterly down to earth (also trains there), and works hard to find a deal for you. Jose, the duty manager, is always on hand to offer a warm smile and problem solve anything you could dream up. All in all, the staff here do a fantastic job. They keep the gym ticking over day in day out. There are stand-out personal trainers, like Stephen Nyarko, with his wealth of sport science and real world expertise, and Pierre Shillingford, a technique king and current British Powerlifting champion.
I'm a regular guy, who likes training, and appreciates something decent when I find it. And for those who want a more qualified opinion, I'm also New York Times bestselling health author, a sport scientist, and former writer for Men's Health. I'm self-employed, and could train anywhere. If I'm in a gym, this is where I choose to workout. It's also where Tom Hardy chose to train when preparing for Bronson.
In 6 words: Soho Gym Camden is bloody great.
R. S.
Decent enough place, has every equipment that I need.
r. m.
I was a customer of Keiser at Mornington Crescent. When they recently went bust I looked at all the gyms in the central area. When I came to Soho Camden and was greeted by Natalia I knew immediately it was the gym for me. She was professional and friendly as are all the staff. The gym has everything you need.
Y. T.
This is the gym where I arrived weighting 128kgs in my early 20s with no strength or cardio training experience beyond playing sports to a minor level, and even that I hadn't done for about 5 years prior.
Additionally I had zero self esteem and was fazed by the prospect of displaying my obesity publicly in a fitness environment.
Since then I have got my weight down to 92kgs, quit smoking, can comfortably run 5kms in under 25mins, can run 1 km comfortably in under 4 minutes , PB of 130kg bench, 180kg deadlift, 140kg squat, 80kg shoulder press, 10 pull-ups, 20+ dips.
10+ years on and I'm still here. I say with no exaggeration that this is the gym where I changed my life and became the person I wanted to be. This is down to the community that exists here which is something that can't be brought or created with machines of gimmicky props like TVs or whatever.
I will always appreciate this gym and it will be a sad day to me once it's turned into a pure gym.
M. H.
I'm a fan of Puregym Camden.
The main attraction is the 24 hour opening.
Also like some of the older machines that they've thrown in there. Pec Dec, side lateral, back machines and incline press help mix your workouts up a bit if you use the other Puregyms around town.
And the walk up those stairs is a good warm up lol.
P. R.
I put 4 stars because the gym is enough furnished, but the changing room is really thigh and the shower you can choose just hot water, and sometimes it's too hot !
A. G.
Crowdy in the evenings, but still I rarely wait in line to access a machine. Great deal for the price!
N. H.
Everytime my other gym is closed I come here.
Super friendly staff, some pretty awesome equipment and good space for being in the centre of Camden.
If you are signing up for a year its pretty well priced too.
G. M.
Best gym in Camden for Equipment, Price, availability
d. d.
Very good gym - plenty of machines, plus a big free weights area; spacious, light & airy; cool music (live DJs in the evening); well maintained; very friendly staff & users.
H. H.
Great gym, no waiting for weights, everyone was super friendly. The guy that works there (Jose?) has contagious enthusiasm and kept me entertained! Great friendly staff overall.
L. G.
Great Gym they stepped it up a lot since COVID, everything is nice and clean along with stations through out the gym to wipe after yourself which helps everybody out. A+!!!
s. w.
Good gym, lots of crazy camdeners
C. M.
Staff are very knowledgeable and experienced. Equipment is top class and well maintained. This is a great gym for sure.
e. g.
It all the equipment I need, nice place to work out and very clean
j. d.
Gym is pretty busy. The male locker room is substandard and too small for the number of men in the gym
T. G.
I had a great experience here the staff were really friendly ,the establishment was clean and tidy , my trainer was helpful and took me through many workouts and machines in my session , highly recommended Tara Camden
B.
Overall the gym is of good quality however I do find the following annoying:
-- Costs extra to use towels (not deducting a star for this but just be aware)
- You have to keep pressing the button on the showers every 10 seconds to keep the water running thereby treating you like children that cannot be trusted with water
- The windows where the treadmills are do not have blinds which will make it hard to run in the mornings if the sun is shining
- There's nothing to wipe down equipment with afterwards (as far as I can see) although to be fair how many people ever do that
I'm fairly new to the gym so perhaps I'll find other annoyances but should also emphasise the gym is otherwise clean and has good modern equipment.
J. S.
It's great, the showers are clean, and the staff are friendly - only 4 stars as some of the machines, especially for leg workouts are a little dated, but they still work!
B. A. W.
Very helpful and very friendly staff. Great gym with a good selection of machines and free weights to suit all type of gym training.
W. H.
Wasn't too busy, plenty of kit to use. Also nice and clean
J. F.
Nice gym with lots of different machines and equipment. The only drawback is the fact that there is only one deadlift platform.
J. W.
Good value for a central London gym, a decent selection of equipment and friendly staff. Insanity on a Friday morning is great ☺
M. “. S.
Very friendly staff, lots of classes to choose from. Not too busy during the day. Very nice gym
M. I.
Pros
-Price is very good for Camden
-clean
- Good variety of equipment
Cons
- changing rooms are very small
M. T.
Good staff, and often quiet around mid-week peak times, so we never had any issues getting on any machines
J. D.
why don’t you leave the air conditioning on? If you’re hard up for the electric I’ll pay you for it.
No joke it makes it horrible to work out here there’s no air to breathe.
R. M.
Better than fitness first
D. M.
Pretty decent gym in the heart of Camden. Friendly staff, good equipment and facilities.
S. A.
Not a bad facility for the low monthly cost
P. G.
Lots of space yet woefully inadequate changing rooms, annoying lunchtime classes in the general area and frequently rude staff. Sort it out Puregym!
m. u.
Clean COVID safe staff don't hassle you plenty of space to work out xx

Well equipped but quite small and simply designed I would say. Nothing special. Just a gym.
