Reviews of Southbank Club
E. F. L. D. C. A.
I have been going to this gym for a number of years, mainly for squash. The staff if friendly and welcoming, the owner is dedicated to his customers and staff and they have a wide range of exercise classes. As it is independently run, this gym has a community feel that you simply don't get in other gyms. Although I have moved from the area, I don't go anywhere else - Highly recommended!

Great gym. Loads of equipment. Plenty of space. People are not there to pose. Needs some renovation and toilets often stink, but I'm not going there to relax. It's a proper gym - it's one of the best 'real' gyms around.
R.
Love this gym, good for physique training, reasonably quiet, nice sauna and steam - some minor equipment faults that they could be a bit more proactive about but overall , great friendly, body building atmosphere - nice staff - love it.

Amazing gym & squash club. Owner and staff are fantastic, so friendly and professional. Facilities are incredible. 7 squash courts (5 glass-backed), huge gym including large free weight section and cross-fit areas with tyres etc. Lovely lounge area with bar, sofas, and sport on TV. Great changing rooms with showers, lockers and sauna. Great community vibe, and they do classes too. Well priced membership. All round excellent 👌

I loved going to the South Bank Club for years. Although I left due to moving out of the area, I still have fond memories of my experience there.
Although I would not class it at the time a cheaper fitness centre than others, it provides more facilities and classes that others. So it was worth every penny. I cannot speak to how it is now but 4 years ago, it was a well worth membership and excellent value for money. I loved the range of dance classes, as well as the machines.
The staff were always lovely and polite on the reception desk. The facilities were clean and tidy. The Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers were very helpful and gave excellent customer service too. Lovely gym. I do miss it in many ways. Especially the kick boxing and dance classes.

This is a very good gym. Spacious and with lots of equipment and mat areas plus has squash courts, classes, sauna, steam room and relaxation area all for a very reasonable price. It occasionaly gets busy at peak hours (standard in any club in London!)but you'll always find equipment and space to exercise. Staff is friendly and crowd is nice too. 100% times better than that Pure Gym down the road where I had subscribed for 1 year and it was just diabolical ! I definitely recommend the Southbank club.

Love this sport center very so often we go with my mates they let us all in
M. D.
This is definitely the best gym I’ve ever gone to. It’s always been relatively quiet, I’ve been able to access pretty much any equipment I want even at peak times, the staff are great and super helpful. Only left as Ioved city, otherwise I’d have stayed longer!
J. B.
Love it - a proper family club vibe in the city which is so rare. I use Southbank primarily for squash (has to be the best and biggest squash centre in London without a doubt).
Never too busy and staff are very professional.

Currently training to be a gym instructor here, so we get free use of the gym for 2 weeks. It's quiet all day up until 5, then don't even bother. There is a variety of equipment, CV machines, free weights, resistance machines, climbing frames etc... Staff are nice. There's a juice bar, somewhere to sit and chill with a TV, microwaves etc... Nice gym. Not sure about price though.

My first visit to the gym was 1 month ago where the standard membership fee was around £45 but the classes and sauna were closed. I asked them if they were willing to make a discount since half of the benefits were closed (and I'm not really a "pushing weights" type of guy, prefer more cardio really), the answer was NO! Fine.. After a month on their homepage they decided to put up an offer starting from £25 and I got really excited thinking I might be lucky to finally try out the gym. Turned up at the tilt and the lady there showed me a list of membership offers and nowhere was this £25 offer. I got a bit annoyed by the lack of attitude when she shrugged when I asked why they would advertise an offer that doesn't exist. To me it looked like she didn't really care since she hasn't even apologized. This review here is not about the gym but the customer service I got at the reception and don't know what to call it but bad marketing! Please keep the information straight on your website. Cheers!

I've been coming to this gym for a year and a half. Previously I had been a member of Pure gym down the road for half the membership price, but I've realised cheap and budget isn't what I want, or to wait to use weights or equipment. No matter what time of the day I come, there is rarely a wait. The place is spotless, especially the changing rooms and the staff always greet you with a smile. The sauna and steam room after my workout is a nice touch. It's affordable luxury that makes coming to the gym a better experience.

Great venue for squash, I’ve played there for the past two years. The place has 8 courts (in addition to gym, sauna, etc.). They organise league games as we as club nights. Players of all levels go there, although level is overall quite competitive. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
T. H.
Lovely gym, nice to see one which actually has the members at heart.
Free-weights area is big and very busy, and the functional area was something I quite enjoyed.
For the cardio lovers, a whole suite of Life Fitness kit to get you sweaty... highly recommended

Been coming here now since I moved to London over 7 years ago. I’ve tried other gyms - some more local to work or home, but this is still the best. Big, airy, loads of equipment, and sauna and steam room facilities. I’d be gutted if I had to change.

Best Gym in South West London so far. I have been to virgin active, pure gym, easy gym and The gym group but this is THE BEST gym so far with huge space. I am interesting in Squash, Boxing and free weights and this gym have all what I wanted. Steam and sauna bath are extra addition for me so very motivated than ever before.......5 *

Definitely the best squash court for miles around, I only started going there through movegb but would heartily recommend. Very courteous staff, very clean and excellent facilities -the gym itself is quite grandiose, with nice original feature wood.
M. W.
Been going here for 2 years now. The team is great, the space offers everything your healthy soul desires, and the fact that the price you pay (squash included) is less than most London gyms does not hurt ;)
As for the squash, I am so glad I don't have to find people to play. I can rock up to any of the socials (Wed / Thu / Sat) and just play !
S. M.
I go here for the gym which is spacious and functional. There's loads going on for those that want that (squash courts and loads of classes), but above all there's everything you could need in the weight room as well as cardio. A great vibe in a former cinema with a good mix of all sorts of people - no one will feel out of place or awkward here.
However it drives me mad that some of the clocks are *still* on BST in January, so I've knocked two stars off! **Edit** the clocks are now correct (in February!) so 5* reinstated but waiting with bated breath to see what happens when we go to BST!
M. N.
One of the best squash clubs I've been a member of in London. Very good management and stuff keep it a friendly place, and the 7 squash courts means it's generally easier to get a slot. The club nights on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (afternoon) are always a good standard so it means there's always lots of chances to get games.
C. F.
Wonderful club. 7 well maintained sqaush courts, extremely friendly environment with many regulars to engage with. Great steam room and sauna in the spacious changing rooms. Individual cubicle showers. Sofas, TVs, variery of seating and relaxation areas. Internal squash leagues, 3 club evenings/afternoons and a yearly internal squash championship. Players of all abilities.

As London's very soul continues to be eroded by the ceaseless march of Multinational Corporations, Franchise coffee shops and High Rise Apartments, The SouthBank Club Gym provides an oasis in the desert. A wonderful gym, all the equipment you need and none of the pretension. Really friendly staff from around the world, who greet you with a smile when you come through the door. It gives one hope that Community really is the answer and not Capitalism (and ultimately Nuclear Armageddon). Thanks for the memories Southbank - Never change!
T. E.
A previous member of PureGym down the road, the extra expense for Southbank is more than worth it. The weights section is never busy, the staff are friendly and personable, the hot yoga classes are great, the functional training equipment is plentiful and the added bonus of sauna/steam room is the cherry on top!
N. F.
Like this gym. Lots of equipment and additional steam and sauna rooms. Squash courts available as well. Membership reasonable for what you get, classes included

What a great club. I enjoyed my Otago training here with Later Life here. Karina from Southbank Club is one of the best front of house personnell that I have ever met- polite/fun/professional/flexible.
Thank you for letting me use the great gym with TRX, kettlebells etc & amazing relaxation space with sauna- heaven for any Nordic person :)
P. H.
One of the few true remaining clubs with squash courts in London. And has several leagues of players so you always get a good game. I feel very lucky that it's almost on my doorstep. And the staff are incredible!
A. R.
This is a really good club with perfectly reasonable membership costs. The gym is spacious with tons of machines. There are 9 squash courts.
J. B.
Brilliant privately run gym and squash club. The gym is huge and never too busy. Great selection of equipment including a functional training zone.
M. L.
Independent gym and squash club in an old art deco cinema - the old auditorium is almost unrecognisable, but provides a pleasant, fresh, high-ceilinged gym to work out in. In addition, the gym has a large range of classes in the evenings and weekened - working well around members' work schedules. Prices are reasonable, and the opening of budget no-frills gyms in the area has encouraged the Southbank Club to up its game, investing in new spa facilities.
A. D. R.
Coming here for more then 15 years.. Is a great indipendent gym. great equipment and friendly staff.. Very clean and lots of classes.. Would not change for nothing else
L. K.
We've been going here for 5 months now and like it. It's big for London - the only bad thing are some of the people that never re-rack. But we enjoy it. The facilities themselves are always very clean.
T. C. M.
Been going to the gym for a long time. Great staff, great classes, great facilities. From squash to weight training you're covered..
O. T.
Fantastic range of equipment and spa facilities inside changing room, very spacious. Some equipment needs fixing but who can complain when there is so many options to choose from
D. D.
Cannot recommend this place more. Great facilities and very helpful staff. Very spacious gymnasium and very good squash courts.
A. M.
I have been a squash member here for several years and cannot fault it - really nice facilities and a lovely, friendly an really well trained front-of-house team.
I. H.
Not as cheap as some of the new gyms popping up in the area, but significantly larger than most with nice features such as steam rooms.
M. S.
Lovely huge gym with excellent facilities kept in good condition and serviced by friendly staff. What more do you want.
R. J.
I am always very excited about London Krav Maga classes. I can recommend highly experienced instructors and practical knowledge.
B. S.
Great gym for a serious work out, benefits include great squash courts and a great cross fit functional fitness area.
G. G.
Big spacious...two reasons it doesn't get 5stars..cleaners are cleaning whilst your training...need an update in the weight training area
W. D.
The club nights are great! And the staff are helpful. That said, they always assume your card is contactless which makes paying akward.
S.
Nice gym with good facilities. Actually had a really good free-weight area and nice locker rooms
