Reviews of Surrey Docks Fitness & Water Sports Centre
G. F.
My children’s first experience of sailing with Tom & Tom. They absolutely love it! They look forward to their home education sessions and I feel completely confident knowing my children are in highly capable hands! Thank you
T. D.
Amazing views over the water from the gym. Cheap membership with classes included. Friendly atmosphere and everyone welcome. You have the opportunity to do watersports although this is extra. Gym equipment is up to scratch, although not many high tech machines the basics are there. Can be tricky to book classes as the spots go very quickly. It’s good value for money but if you want somewhere with longer opening hours or high tech machines look elsewhere.
G. G.
Ok gym, but small with limited free weights. At peak there is very little room. Cardio area fares a little better. Machines don't seem to be connected so can't use their smart features.
D. F.
Great location with nice view over the docks, and reasonably membership prices. The only downside is a rather limited number of weight machines
J. P.
Nice gym with great views of the dock in Greenland dock. Very quiet in mornings, that’s when I usually come here. Staff are professional and the gym is clean.
C. Z.
Amazing home ed sailing experience and opportunity!!!
My children absolutely love their sailing sessions. Tom and Ben are extremely professional and I highly recommend them.
Thank you so much!!!!

I loved it. I have had several gym memberships, both personal and work sponsored, but the Council options depending on location can not only be so much less expensive, but truly spectacular gems. Surrey Docks is certainly in the "spectacular" category.
Not only does it have a gym, and numerous workout/exercise related offerings (Pilates, Yoga, personal instruction, Zumba etc) - but it also offers boating! Sailboats and other craft are available for use on the Greenland Pier enclosure, what a spectacular setting and ideal on-the-water opportunity.
In addition, your membership also gets you into their other leisure centers like Seven Seas if you fancy going swimming, or other things that may not be available at Surrey Docks. All in all though, it has to be one of the best kept secrets and values around. Highly recommended!

Economic Gym with most of the necessary equipments. Their group classes are great.
b. g.
Lovely place and area. Sailing and general water sports, are just relaxing pastimes...
S. B.
Great location with a lovely view of the dock, only flaw, taps are loose in the ladies
S. S.
Small and busy, but good for chest workouts
G. G.
I have been member for many years. I enjoy the gym and the environment. It’s nice and clean gym. I build very good relationship with the staff and I have to say the trainers are amazing. There might be few little things that that need to be improved such as new boxing gloves. I spoke with the fitness manager lady who explained me reasons and what steps were taken and since then I actually noticed regularly there are new weights, mats, kettlebells arriving. She’s been very polite and professional with me and made me feel that my opinion matter.
D. P.
Smartly designed facility separating cardio and weight sections... very clean shower and changing rooms...
Also have water soprt activities.
J. A.
Good value for money membership.
Great variety of classes for body toning, strength building and mental wellbeing.
Most of the class instructors are good and attentive, helping you maintain correct form and go at the right pace.
As with any gym, shared equipment can sometimes be dirty. The worst culprit is the boxing equipment. You should invest in your own for hygiene's sake.
Surrounding area is scenic and gorgeous. You'll have a great view from the upstairs gym area.
Update Feb 2020:
The centre recently switched to a new way of handling class bookings and waitlists. These changes have made it harder to book a slot onto my favourite evening classes.
Waitlists are now removed within 4 hours of the class start time. This means you have to anally check the app to see if a slot has become free.
If you cancel your booking within these 4 hours, and if someone does not book your freed up slot, then you will now incur a charge on your account, preventing you from making further bookings. I have had two instances of this since these changes came into effect.
I have to wonder if this is an underhand tactic to get additional revenue for the Centre. I've lowered my rating from 4 stars to 3 because of these recent negative changes.
Update March 2020:
A further downgrade to 2 stars.
The new booking and waitlist system is poorly-thought out.
You are charged £4 for not showing up to a class even if you showed up (and scanned your membership card on the way in.)
The receptionists will suggest you are at fault for the no-show, because you didn't scan your card.
When you ask them to take off the charge, they fob you off, saying they're not allowed and to speak to one specific person (single point of failure).
This person isn't always around so you may end up waiting a few days with a charge on your account, unable to make new class bookings.
Update Feb 2021:
On reflection, I think this review has been too harsh in terms of rating.
The centre, variety of classes and quality of staff are all genuinely good (pre and post-lockdown).
Any frustrations around the app/booking system/late cancellation penalties should be directed to Everyone Active head office, not this one centre in Canada Water.
L. F.
Great staff and a good place to workout
D. S.
Nice strolls or lots of sports and water sports if you're that way inclined.
S. k.
Great, purpose built, simple gym with group classes ranging from core conditioning to Yoga and spinning. Pre booking into classes are necessary and Everyone Active has an app available for members to do this. Good clean changing rooms, club room available for hire, car park but no pool. Watersports centre runs sailing, kayaking and power boat classes for adults and children, gym membership entitles you to a discounted rate on these.
H.
Convenient location for residents, weights section not as bad some reviews make out, just needs a third Olympic barbell.
R. W.
Amazing to find the opportunity to go sailing in Central London. The dock is surrounded by houses and will be of no interest to the seasoned sailer but a great place to learn. Excellent facilities and knowledgeable, patient instructors.
J. W.
The sailing course was fun and the instructors were really nice.
C. W.
Average local gym, it gets really busy in the evenings. It's quite small and the membership staff has messed up my membership in the past.
I'd say the service is lame, the kit in the gym is basic and crammed, but it's cheap.
N. B.
It's good but can be busy at peak times. Would like to see more equipment in the gym.
X. W.
It's a small gym but a good one and very convenient for local residents. The main problem is that it's only open till 6pm on Saturdays and 4pm on Sundays. Also, being a council-owned gym, its never open on bank holidays and sometimes they just randomly don't open at all.
F. G. (.
Gym floor to small very easy to become busy. Not very clean but very convenient if you leave around the area.
N. H.
Excellent for water sports in London but the gym is very small, plenty of cardio machines but not all the resistance equipment you’d expect to find.
L. W.
Attended a Dragon Boat regatta rather than the gym but staff were still lovely and helpful, and it is such a pretty location too! Only thing I would say is that they could do with some more toilets and showers...
L. A.
Love this gym and watersport centre.Great views of the river when in gym
J.
A lot of missing equipment. Quite small too. careful when joining. They tell you they are giving you a special discount if you pay upfront. But actually it’s the offer they are giving here and the one close to Canada Water.
B. B.
Well stacked gym with good mix of cardio machines and weights. Nice location with a nice view of the dock, very picturesque when working out.
H. B.
Local gym. Great place for the price and not too overcrowded. Very good personnel as well. The classes they have on offer are also quite good.
S. S.
Great staff
Gym is open and friendly
Lovely views while working out
They offer a range of classes
At affordable prices
K. H.
The gym is pretty small but the equipment and view are good. I wouldnt go out of my way for it but if youre a local its worth it.
G. O.
Excellent discovery! They offer all sorts of water sports activities and the place is pretty easy to reach (some walking will be involved if you take the tube; parking is pretty easy if you come by car. If you are a Londoner and you are into water sports check it out.
A. M.
Sailing club is nice but very limited hours for actual sailing (10-4!). The gym is a small one and very expensive for what little you get.
F. W.
Amazing gym. Would highly recommend
J. L.
Good and fairly new equipments. Nice view when running on treadmills. A variety of classes and you can even learn how to sail.
E. S.
Really nice gym, free access to Southwark residents on weekends, lovely friendly staff
S. S.
Great location apart from other gym facilities this one offers water sports as well. Very good value and great atmosphere
C. F.
Needs Calf machines also maybe more than 40kg on the dumbbells. A little crowded on the free weights. No room between benches. Many gromits that need coaching also; they leave weights lying around and hog machines.
G. C.
I did my sailing course there. I love the club. People are friendly and the winds are a bit more predictable than the Docklands.
s. w.

Love sailing there and because of the great, friendly and dedicated staff though Everyone Active should invest more in the dinghies otherwise would be 5*

A. P.
I could give a five star if only they could make more space . Is Too small for so many people in rush hours
a. s.
Limited weights area, often quite full. Ventilation could also be improved given the funk.
