This used to be premium gym best gym in Newcastle however now it has lost its spark gym equipment is looking poor and run down, the spa keeps closing down, lockers are in poor condition, coffee machine has never worked, weighing scales are gone. I’ve give 3 stars because the staff are very friendly and helpful if you give them some reinvestment they can easily turn it back to 5 star.

Brilliant facilities and good value for money. Gym, pool, jacuzzis and steam room, not to mention all the classes you can’t go wrong. Also like that a shop is attached that I get 10% off in for all the gym wear I need.

Great gym in Byker. I've tried a lot of gyms over the years and this one is by far the best gym in Newcastle. A great selection of equipment and probably one of the best group exercise timetables. Fab instructors too.

Cracking space after refurbishment. I've trained here for four years now and I've no intention of leaving, even with the massive gym selection in the city (many much cheaper too). Great new equipment across the board. I'd like another 45° leg press and at least one other squat rack, but there you go. The spin hall is completely new, bikes also. Other gear includes battle ropes, full sets of kettle bells, plyo boxes, a new designated boxing room with three ceiling fixed heavy bags, a so called Skill Mill, Watt Bike and SPARC trainer, Stairmasters, two Olympic lifting stations and plenty of fresh Technogym machines. If they tarted up the downstairs changing rooms and steam room a bit, it would be better again.

Decent Gym and facilities are also good since the re-furb. Need to get more benches in though and fix the broken equipment. Well priced though considering the pool etc.

The best gym I've been to and I've tried a few lol.. The staff are amazing always there to help and have made it feel like a home away from home. I can't recommend this place enough

First day back to the gym seemed decently clean not over crowded people appear to be sticking to social distancing if anyone is concerned regarding that factor so first impressions are good

Have been member of DW over 10 years, I believe it’s excellent facility for training, the standard of instruction by instructor’s and personal trainers are second to none, the facility has produced some of the top sport personality in the Noth East, staff always available for consolation and feedback,

One of the best gyms in Newcastle and reasonably priced! Spa/Pool area is great and the staff are very welcoming, definitely worth a visit.

The refurbishment has really made a difference but their online presence lacks. People are never sure of the opening times and what will be open at what time. Pools sometimes close earlier for cleaning etc.

Been a member for over a year, they have just undergone a return and I have to say the changes made have lifted the place up to close to the top, the introduction of more funny fitness elements and the new cardiovascular equipment and resistance machines have made the gym more inviting for a wider array of people this coupled with the pool makes dw byker a force to be reckoned with

It's fine, nothing special, it doesn't get quite as busy as some of the other gyms so that's a plus, but you pay for it with poor management - no staff on the gym floor 95% of the time, wasteful hygiene systems involving individually wrapped wipes, a severe lack of available carabiners available for use with the cable machines, a lot of the plates are kinda manky, just a small amount of investment would go a long way but apparently they aren't willing to make that effort after everyone is paying £30-40 every month... Changing rooms are nice, but they don't really save it - I'll probably be looking for somewhere that actually maintains its equipment once my contract is over

It was previously DW sports fitness, now owned by Sports Direct under the Everlast brand. It okay, but they could have refurbished it before opening, nothing has really changed except the pricing has reduced to a more reasonable level. The interior everywhere needs a total new refresh and the equipment is just hammered as it was before.

Not used the actual gym so can't comment on that but I do use the swimming pool and the changing rooms. The pool is a great size and never too busy which is great as I like to go and do some training. The pool side however needs some attention throughout the day. It is extremely slippy and on many occasions I have nearly slipped over. The female changing rooms never seem to get cleaned? I went over a period of 2 weeks and the same stuff was still on one of the benches? The showers are awful and smell terribly of mildew and mold, they don't seem to of have a good clean in a long time. The bit on the shower where you change the temperature never seems to work either and its always too hot. Compared to the DW gym I use in Barrow-in-Furness the standards of Bykers DW is not very good at all.

More than a gym. A fitness club with everything including pool, spas and steam room. With excellent state of the art gym facilities and loads of group exercise classes to choose from with the best class instructors ever. Staff and management are friendly and approachable especially if you’ve never been to a gym before and also with personal trainers who will help you every step of the way to reach your goals. Yes there are plenty of budget gyms out there that are cheaper but they’re called budget for a reason. I would highly recommend DW Fitness First to anyone wanting to kickstart their journey towards fitness.

Unreal gym, and newly refurbished. Has some good new bits of equipment like the skill mill and a great functional training area. Has a great atmosphere and welcoming, friendly staff. Membership prices have dropped since refurb. PT's always on hand in case you need a hand. Definitely recommend this gym!

Visited for a day, as I am looking for a gym with a pool as swimming is my main form of exercise. I arrived, staff were friendly, but no explanation as to where to go, were the changing rooms where. I enquired as to length of the pool, had to speak to three people to find out. Changing rooms were a bit iffy, not too bad though, plenty of space. No mention that I needed a pound for the locker, so I had to leave my stuff in the locker, with the locker, unlocked. The temperature of the showers, was a law unto itself, either scalding hot, or lukewarm. Onto the pool, the pool was much nicer than the one at my current gym and bigger, with lanes provided. Water, initially felt very cold, but once used to it, was fine. Weirdly, their was a woman taking photos of her self and son, using a"selfie stick", this had obviously been picked up on CCTV as a member of staff quickly intervened. Also found it a bit odd, how people would wander in and sit chatting to their mates, being fully dressed, it was obvious they had no plans to swim! I had a great swim and ot was lovely, being able to use a lane, not having to circumnavigate other users, was brilliant. I really enjoyed my swim and really quite enjoyed my time, here. I am still debating whether this is the right gym for me, but the options for a gym with a pool are limited and it was certainly an improvement on the tiny pool I currently swim in!

Great gym for a workout. not filled with the dregs of society given its location, just decent people. Weights and cardio equipment top notch. Nice pool sauna and jacuzzi to chill. Love it
