Reviews of David Lloyd Reading

I have visited a few different David Lloyd clubs in the country & the Reading club wasn't even close to the quality of the others. The lady on reception was helpful when I first visited & directed me to the changing rooms etc which was nice.
Before I even walked inside though, the outside of the building had quite a lot of litter at the entrance and surrounding building which didn't really give a good first impression. The buildings exterior looked like it could do with a good clean as well.
Inside in the upstairs CV & weights area, the whole place was very underwhelming & was clearly a very old club/branch. It is in great need of a revamp. There are some small tv screens in front of the treadmills but they were tuned in to some very random channels, an old version of Robin Hood was on one of the screens! not very gym motivating.
Even the gym equipment itself is quite outdated compared to some of the other clubs I've visited, so that could be improved also. There were surprisingly hardly any mirrors in their as well, particularly where you'd normally expect them in a gym around the weights areas.
The gym did appear clean though and there were many areas for sanitising & wiping down the equipment. All in all though David Lloyd Reading just needs some new life pumping into it to bring it up to the standard you expect to see when paying circa £130 per month or higher!

I really enjoy the Reading David Lloyd. It's always clean, the staff and trainers are always very friendly and welcoming. The pool is lovely and warm and the gym has everything you could want. There is also free parking for members despite what the signs say outside and I never have problem finding a spot.

Fairly good/average with minimalistic (& somehow sufficient) faculties!
Although a separate indoor/outdoor swimming pool is missing (there is just one swimming pool that they try to make it outdoor during summer and indoor during winter (but it's fairly average setting)!
Furthermore you can't play tennis which most David Lloyd clubs offer!

I had a few problems with my life and I wanted to cancel my contract. It was a little difficult, but we finally resolved it. A big thank you to Robin from the support team here. I may consider joining again in the future. Thanks

I came to this club because my favorite Pulse8 is closed. I am getting used to new things. Like that you have to bring or buy the locker for changing wardrobes or that there is no plastic bags for wet things in the changing room. But... I really like the instructor Clare and now having all her classes. Today even aqua-airobic after a long break. Also very good thing is Elemis cosmetic in the shower and toilets. This is really good. Changing room is big and comfy. Would be nice to have more hairdryers and plugs next to them for my stretner but its ok. Design of the club is new to me and I am still getting used to it but excellent instructor making it all up.

Heard it’s good gym but the cost of joining and monthly costs are bit high. Really wanted to try out to be fair

Not bad gym, has all the facilities... Sadly, the whole gym is due a revamp, certain things like the Spa facilities are dated, and something in there is always broken, such as the steam room ( recently was out of order for 8 weeks), pretty unacceptable in my opinion. Gym equipment is decent. Staff are friendly enough...expect better for the price you pay tbh.

Cool club, esp for family with kids.. lots of kids activities which allows both parents to go to gym along with their kids... amazing swimming pool and great facilities.

As my ever growing body due to covid inactivity wore me down I decided to join a gym. I chose david lloyds because it shares the same last name as my bank. Who I trust with all the riches I have gathered on this earth to.
Just being shown around on my first day I felt the weight fall off.. the stairs to the excersise area alone will burn off last night's pudding.
I read an earlier negative review about some kids boxing. That's wonderful I thought. What would you rather have them do walk around the gym on their social media accounts?
Fantastic atmosphere overall and yes..the pool area needs a revamp but it's still better than what I have at home. (I share a bathroom in a flat on a floor of 7 different people) and that bathroom can get pretty sweaty.

Big indoor stroke outdoor pool in summer. Small Sauna in the changing room. Small steam room. Friendly staff

The gym and pool are amazing. Facilities really good. Staff excellent. So why only 3 stars? Once you've joined member services are absolutely appalling to deal with. That really takes the shine off.

Visited last week to use the pool. Everything was very clean. Staff super friendly and welcoming. My kids had a great time and can't wait to go back.

I'm a fan of this place, the swimming pool is great even more so when they take off the roof in the summer months. Gym can get a little to busy and it attracts some rather chavy members but nothing they can do about that.

I was at this gym for a year. It's a nice place and the staff are friendly, especially the PT's who are easy to talk to. The price however is extremely poor for what you get in my opinion. I initially paid £100 so that I could have a 3 month contract, but soon changed to the £85 monthly contract for the better price, but this had me be on a 1 year contract.
You can use the pool, sauna and gym. I however never used the pool or sauna - due to the location it's quite difficult to get to/from during certain times of the day so I'd take off as soon as possible after using the gym. I wouldn't actively travel there just for those services otherwise.
The gym was good and at certain times would be reasonably free; this was my reason for using this "premium" gym as I was irritated with low cost gyms being ludicrously overpopulated.
I think most people using this gym or at least a majority population are on company discounted memberships, so don't be fooled into thinking because the club is actively used that others are happy with the pricing of membership.
I'd use the gym again if it were £30-50 a month due to the good maintenance of equipment, but as it's £85 minimum, there are definitely better gyms with far greater value for money.

Great facilities, love the pool and spacious hot tub, big enough for a footbal team. I prefer the sauna to the steam room. Staff inc management always happy to help, and the restaurant lounge area is a very relaxing place to be. The food is well priced, and also the "Friends" sized cups of tasty coffee. We spend more time in the lounge after exercising then doing our workouts. This is the first fitness centre I have EVER kept coming to. Its not cheap, but its very much value for money, you get what you pay for, big tick.

A little bit too expensive for what you are getting in return. The customer service isn't consistent. I used the opportunity of £14 for 14 days, and for that price it was ok, however to join for a year I was presented with £115 a month membership. For that sort of price I expect a consistently good experience and customer services. Some receptionists were moody and not very helpful. A Lady who signed me in, was pleasant however she made me wait 45 min on the first day before I event got my card, besides I had to keep asking to find out where are the changing rooms, gym, pool and how I start using the facilities in general - very poor performance for a sales manager, in my opinion, particularly when she is looking to convince me to sign on for the full membership.
Besides, I wasn't keen on the ladies changing rooms, there are many kids running around screaming, and in places designated only for adults. Saunas are tiny (max 2-3 people would get in). Pool and steam rooms are nice and usually quiet and generally clean.
I also liked the cafe area as it was fairly peaceful on a week day and it has wi-fi, for a health club however, I'd expect more fruit and healthy options to be on offer.
In terms of classes, I very much liked all of them (body balance, grit, yoga, bums and tums), the instructors and the gym staff were very helpful and enthusiastic, also the rooms were big and air conditioned, so it was a pleasure to take part. However, some classes I was keen to join were only available as 'virtual' so not the best offer for over£100 a month as for that I can stay at home and watch YouTube.

Ladies toilet's in the changing room were discussting . Out of 3 toilet's , only 1 was useable. The other 2 were full of toilet paper and blocked

Pros:
- friendly and skillful training cadre
- relative peace and quiet outside of rush hours (lunchtime and evening)
- pool with a roof that gets removed in summer
- wide range of machines and a decent-sized free weights area
- good range of classes
Cons:
- only one squat rack and only one full size mirror in the free weights area, resulting in inevitable queues for basic exercises. Better not come in the evening if you plan to squat or lift, unless you're ready to spend half an hour waiting for a free spot.
- badly ventilated group exercise rooms combined with the management forbidding to open terrace doors "for health and safety reasons"
- very expensive membership

Gym is adapting well to covid restrictions. Feels safe. Demand for classes is very high as numbers have had to be reduced.

Expensive but good gym facilities

Great facilities and equipment. Really friendly staff. I was previously a member of another gym but David Lloyd is head and shoulders above that experience. Love it.

Excellent facilities, clean and well maintained. Friendly and well experienced staff! Definitely a 5* facility. Can’t wait for English summer to come so I can enjoy the outside pool! :D
