⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 6 Stars rating upgrade
Been a member here for a couple years now following gym memberships across the UK. Diverse clientele for sure. Go in, train, no one bothers you. Good selection of equipment. Can't fault it for the money or the access setup really. Well maintained and staff are friendly. Go to choice of gym at the moment.
Tip: For new joiners the changing rooms are upstairs far right corner
Tip: Get the access fob from the vending machine. So much easier than faffing with putting code in to gain access or scrabbling around with your app. Low friction easy access.
Gyms can be intimidating. Everyone here just gets on with it. The spin and studio sessions are good.

Decent facilities and good gym at affordable prices! It does get quite busy during peak times such as evening 6-8. The good thing is, you can see the numbers on app and choose to go at some other times. Parking can be tight with the pub, aldi and pure gym Sharing the same space. Plus point; the parking has electric chargers although I have never used them so can’t vouch for their efficiency. Anyway I digress, the gym has two levels and classes are held on the upper levels. The app is quite handy ! Good luck on your gym goals

Good equipment and weights. Pretty much everything I want in a Gym. It can get a bit busy at peak times, and hard to get on a machine.
The showers are clean and mostly well-kept. But do smell of stagnant water a bit.
A few things need addressing. As it's pretty much unmanned a LOT of selfish people just don't bother with simple gym etiquette, like putting weights away after use, and putting towel waste in the bin.
If these are sorted the place get 5stars from me.

Average gym equipment but plenty to choose. Sometimes gym can become very busy during the day not sure if you can enjoy your exercise with lots of people within limited space

Large functional gym. Has all the standard areas and a good selection of classes. It always smells quite bad though so it doesn't seem to be cleaned that well or that regularly (not sure which!)

It’s a nice gym with decent equipment, a little short on spaces and can be difficult to exercise sometimes waiting for turn

I am forced to look for a new gym because my current gym, Pulse8, has decided to close. Ten minutes of Google searching and I found Pure Gym on Basingstoke Road in Reading. I initially liked what I saw: they are open 24 hours, they offer many classes, they use Matrix equipment, which is what Pulse8 uses and last but not least a full membership is less than half of my daytime membership to Pulse8. #doh
So I go down to the gym to have a look around, and at first glance it does not appear to be a gym, as you have single-person PIN number activated entry pods to the gym. You put your 6 digit PIN number into the keypad, one side of the what looks like a perpendicular MRI machine opens up and you step inside, then the door closes behind you. About 5 seconds later the door in front of you opens and you are now inside the deceptively large gym.
The gym has two floors, with free weights and cable machines on the ground floor, and on the first floor they have many, many more cable machines and all of their extensive cardio equipment, which includes bikes, rowing machines, treadmills and a moving staircase machine (think a high-tech upgrade to the stairmasters of old). There are lockers on the first floor for both men and women, and they include both toilets and showers.
The one thing you need to understand about Pure Gym is that it is a no-frills kind of place. At Pulse8 all of the Matrix-branded cardio machines had internet access, a touchscreen and a fancy GUI (Graphical User Interface) so you could watch Netflix or local TV while exercising. At Pure Gym all of the Matrix cardio equipment is of the entry level, function over toys variety. The machines are all very new and work quite well, but Pure Gym keeps its costs down by purchasing the basic machines that have no touchscreens or internet access, but they still do exactly the same thing.
I believe that last paragraph is key to the identity of the gym: they keeps costs down by only purchasing equipment you need to exercise efficiently. Everything you need, nothing you don't. No frills is a good policy in my book. The one item I take exception to is the lockers: you must provide your own lock. There is being efficient, and then there is being cheap - and these lockers smack of cheap.
I am beginning my 2nd week as a member, and I look forward to busting my butt for half the price I was paying at Pulse8.

The classes are great, the equipment and area is well maintained and the staff are friendly. Sure, it gets busy as all gyms do but there is ample space to exercise while you wait for a bench or machine. Not sure what else I should be expecting! No complaints.

First time back since lock down and it looked and felt good ! There is plenty of cleaning stations to clean hands and equipment.
There is good spacing and still lots of equipment.
