N. C.I had a problem with an item I ordered online so I decided to take the faulty tiles back to the store instead. I was helped by a really helpful member of staff called 'Mandy'. She was both understanding and apologetic about the problems (and the lack of communication from customer services about the issue). She refunded the item with no problems at all and it turned a bad experience into a good one. I thought I'd leave a review as it's just really refreshing to find someone who cares about their job and really just wants to make sure the customer is happy. Thank you Mandy :D

H. M.Discount DIY store. The quality isn't amazing overall. The shop feels slightly sad, but it is quiet and you won't be bothered. Accessible throughout.
C. P.The new shop is a nice layout. Easy to find and pick things up quickly but let down by staff who are useless. Long queue at checkout with what a wan who I presume was the manager shouting where's so and so instead of getting on the till and helping out. Need to provide some training.
A. M.During a recent visit i had a lot of help from a member of staff, so only right to make a point of it.
Went in for 30sqm of porcelain tiles of which only 11sqm were on display and if you've purchased patterned tiles before you'll know to always get the same batch and pattern code, otherwise they will look odd when installed.
Umar was kind enough to find 30 boxes in the warehouse and wheel the pallet to my car, after which he even loaded them for all for me. Considering they were 24KG per sqm, he really went out of his way to help and it was refreshing to experience such customer service.
D. L.Have made a couple of trips to this new store in Newport Rd, Cardiff and found the staff very helpful and courteous. Ordered materials for Click & Collect which was simple and had good communications when the items were available. Highly recommend this branch and thank you to the staff.
O. T.Wickes relocated from Great Western Road to a new store on Newport Road. The layout is similar, the same selection of building and home improvement items. Staff are polite and friendly. It's not as big as B&Q but they have pretty much everything you'll need. There's 10% trade discount.

The opportunity to improve the overall experience in store would be to have a member of the team offer to assist with the loading of the products purchased. In my case I've purchased 40+ items across two visits in one day each weighing 20kg with no offer of assistance not to say I required it but others may.
H. D.Popped in for some brackets. Nice new store. Not huge but a good variety of DIY stuff available. Has a small garden area outside too. Hand sanitizer available at entrance and screens at tills. Could not go to see kitchen displays upstairs as blocked off cos of covid. Large free car park outside.
A. R.I opted for click and collect and in all fairness my order was ready within the 4 hours stated. However I was very unimpressed with the young blonde girl in the click and collect counter. I waited 10 minutes and still did not have any eye contact or an apology for the wait whilst she was talking to someone on the phone. I don't know if it was a customer or a friend but from having worked in retail for many years, I was always taught to treat the customer who physically comes to your store is more valuable than someone who just calls. The young lass needs training for sure. I was handed a trolley from a young lad and I had no idea if it had been sanitised. Very poor customer service and I shall not be returning.

We have been visiting the store on regular basis and not once have seen him not smiling.Moreover, nothing is ever too much trouble for him and he is super helpful...keep up the good work Dom 👍

D. J.Much better than the old store, but often low on stock currently (maybe covid related?) Stock numbers on website often inaccurate as well so may be worth checking.
R. O.I had reason to use this store as my local store had run out of the tiles we were fitting in our new kitchen. Although they did not have exactly what I wanted the manager was more than helpful, by organising materials from elsewhere he ensured our needs were fully met. Thank you very much.

B.Very annoyed as website said this branch had stock of sand so did not click link for click and collect even through i had 4 bags in my basket as it said it would be ready in 4hrs but we were all ready heading there . staff not very helpful, and the 58 bags the click and collect website said they had dropped to 46 after we left. But there was no sand to be seen instore!!!!! So where was it??? Store was a bit rundown though.
S. J.This location has space for a wider range of products. Other than that there is still a good range available and staff are friendly in my experience. Prices are reasonable for a physical store.

S. C.Not bad though feel it’s dropped off from what it used to be. More due to a change in direction/consolidating stores. Previously had a kitchen from the penarth road store in 2014 but didn’t feel the gabalfa store was as good in 2018.
