A very large store but not served very well by public transport. It's a long walk from the nearest bus stop to the store entrance, not helped by the only entrance being at the furthest end of the store.
Inside the store is spacious and well laid out. Stock levels appear good but variety is sometimes lacking and some products are not as clearly labelled as they could be. If you know your hardware you'll be fine, otherwise you'll be forever asking staff for help. Talking of whom, staff are generally knowledgeable and helpful.
Prices are sometimes competitive and sometimes not. The quality of some timber is poor, with lengths of wood warped or badly knotted. Storage of wood doesn't seem to be the problem so it's probably a supplier issue. Providing you pick your own wood you should be able to filter the poor quality pieces, but don't ask staff to pick and deliver as they won't be so fussy as you.
Overall it's nice to have a decent B&Q near Colchester but shop around as there's often cheaper or better available elsewhere too.

It's HUGE! Compared to the old Colchester store, it is very big; I would say nearly double the size. It is well laid out and the aisle signs are very clear. The downside is that the shelving labels are not so clear. Even with 20/20 vision it's a struggle to read the lower/upper shelf labels as the print is so small. Also some of the products we were trying to find did not have shelf labels or they were on totally the wrong place.
I have mobility issues and struggle to walk very far so even after 3 visits I still have not seen the whole shop! One suggestion I'd like to make on behalf of people with disabilities, is to have some smaller trolleys available for when you're only needing to buy small items, such as lighting switches, polyfiller and an extension reel. I walk with a stick, so a basket is not an option, but the large trolleys are difficult for me to manoeuvre and very deep for me to reach the items at the check-out. A smaller trolley would have been perfect as I could have coped on my own, and not had to ask someone to help me unload it.

This is a huge store which will probably meet all, or definitely most, of your DIY needs. They also have a loyalty card which you can use to earn points and get discounts.
There's plenty of free parking.
My only issue was that when sorting through small packs of things in plastic bags, I ended up with dirty fingers from all the dust on the packaging and, last time I asked, they had no customer toilets so I had to go to Sainsburys to wash my hands.

Large new premises in better location than old store. I like the search and find map on line that allowed you to go straight to the thing(s) you wanted, without going round half the store looking. I didn't like the relatively small amount and range of stock generally. I suspect maybe I'm spoiled by a certain online store that seems to sell anything and everything and delivery it straight to your door.

Really like this store! Very spacious, lots of parking, huge array of products. I'd like more choice of Dulux paint though (I know they prefer to promote their own brand) but homebase has a much better selection. Sometimes can be a bit slow at the Tradepoint till but still easily the best B&Q around here.

First visit to this new store, which I found to be very quite when I arrived at 17:30. There were very few staff but I was able to locate exactly what I needed due to the well signposted areas. Self checkout available which ment that it only took me a few minutes to and I was out of there.
Can't complain👍🏼

One of the largest stores I visited. Well laid out with plenty of staff to ask for help. Only downside is lack of manned tills. I had to buy something that wasn't barcodes and had to wait until they opened up a manned till.
C. H.
Really nice store but odd till set up.
Can I self check out or can I not.
Can I click and collect or not (usually not - never actually have what you ordered or item picked when you get there).

Bright and shiny! Found everything I needed to tile my bathroom floor easy, good choice of tiles and everything else I needed close by, so no hunting around the store looking for them. Only downside I had of visiting the new store was the screw I picked up in my new tyre resulting in a flat tyre by the time I came out! I was parked next to the entrance and not one offer of help.so turned out a very expensive trip to get a few tiles!
C. G.
Assistant extremely helpful with finding and choosing a suitable light for our bathroom. We will be pleased to go shopping there again.
M. D.
Big store with great product range! Didn't stock one product maybe a specialised product being Sugru that i thought they might but got other items:-)

We have now been to the store in Colchester at least 3 times. We’ve recently ordered a kitchen and we are very happy with it. We’ve had a few missing bits and some inner drawer fronts we’re the wrong size, we understand completely that this can happen. The staff dealt with this problem with professional manners they were extremely helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this store and the training of the staff as excellent. Well done. Staff really helpful. Will definitely going back to get the tiles to match flooring i bought.

This place is massive. I've been here three times now, and each time they had plenty of stock on items I wanted.
Good store layout and easy parking too.
I dropped a star as my last visit I was behind four other customers queuing for the only checkout that was open.
J. H.
This store stocked was the only one relatively local that stocked the items we required. We had pre ordered on line and the goods were ready for collection when we arrived at the store. We took this opportunity to have a browse the vast selection of goods on display taking note for future home decoration. A well stocked store with helpful staff.

This is an immense superstore with just about everything you could ever wish for in the world of DIY! From walking in the door you can see the store open up before you. Head left to the large garden supplies section or all the way right to the builders yard. With everything you could wish gorgeous in-between from flooring tiles to entire kitchens, bathrooms lights and so on.
You xan collect online orders too from the vast range of helpful knowledgeable staff.

Great shop very large should have a couple of rest areas staff have been helpful I'm a wheelchair user been there a few times now would have given 5 stars but still working out if I like the till area but that's me I'm old
T. W.
All very new & squeaky clean, shame about the exit to the retail park all in & out on one roundabout. As for B&Q lots of products, signage everywhere for products, found myself going round in circles , but that's life.😵
J. C.
Massive place. Good for all your DIY stuff, but since they relocated their garden centre has been made much smaller and there is not anywhere near the choice you could get in the Hythe.
S. B.
James helped me so much today he was way above and be on. Very kind very helpful and made me feel we didn’t need to rush, has I had a long list of things to find. He helped others on our way though the store too.
Thank you James
L. J.
Brought some samples to bring home and will order what we need online. Great selection to browse round!
J. S.
Very big store, but almost too big to find what you want easily. Staff don't seem that interested and almost rude
P. P.
Not too sure that the move to Stane Park is a good one.
If you have a car it's OK, but if you rely on buses it's a good walk from bus stops.

My first visit since this new B&Q store opened. I was actually shopping for bathroom tiles. What a well thought out store plan, the garden centre, a separate endity to the rest of store was my favorite. Lots of garden room sets, giving inspirational ideas, they have reduced the live plant area, making it less cluttered, B&Q could never compete with the big garden centres in the area, which sell so much more and do it so much better, so its probably not a bad move on B&Qs part, perhaps they should focus on the hard landscaping and garden rooms. I loved the room sets for bathrooms and office space, this is the way to make sales, giving the public inspiration, they can adapt to suit their projects. The whole store is has plenty of room between shelving and there seemed to be several greeters around the store giving direction, it would be great if they kept this particular role going. In all a much better store than many of the older stores, and plenty of staff around should you need help.
S. O.
New place. Its massive big n nice.
A. D.
Great Store friendly staff always willing to help .
S. H.
Great location, lots of parking, vast choice and helpful staff. Some really good offers on at the the moment too.
P. O.
Clean and tidy store friendly and helpful staff they answered my questions
s. d.
Glad to see they have finally lowered the prices and started stocking smaller items in smaller amounts instead of having to buy 25 of something when you only need 4. A wide variety range of products, the only gripe i have is there isn't a burger van outside!!!! Every good diy place has one.
L. B.
All brand new. And in tje league of a true DIY Whare house. All very well laid out. And helpful staff.
L. H.
I like the fact you can go online and find what Isle your product is in. Makes it so much easier
J. R.
Well presented store, great product range and helpful staff
A. T.
Prices increased as everywhere. Not really a convenient DIY store. Enough products to cover all the needs though
R. B.
Similar to many other b&q stores but on a larger scale. Staff were helpful with locating particular items.
M. 1.
Really need golf buggies to get round. Also the aisle numbers need sorting. an afterthought perhaps as 80's are next to 1-10
D. A.
Lovely new shop with plenty of parking and you can take well behaved dogs. Everything you need ina DIY shop
D. J. E.
The new store is far better than expected! Have not found everything within it yet, neither has Hamster, who crept in through the exit doors as humans were leaving. Beats having to drive a 12 mile round trip to get there and back through the traffic-clogged and pot-hole ridden town roads! Watch for the pot-holes on the approach roads!
K. M.
Excellent store but the parking is a nightmare since M&S opened
m. a.
Brand new store next to Sainsburys at Tollgate. Well stocked with the normal B&Q goods with some quite nice displays in the Garden Centre. Lots of parking but this will be much busier once the rest of the development is completed. Found what I went for, will use again.
A. H.
The place had what I wanted at the time. Unfortunately since they have moved location I don't go as often as I live opposite side of town.
M. B.
Easy parking : clean and tidy : plenty of space in store and everything required for the diyer or professional
C. L.
We had difficulty in getting into the store due to no sign posting or directions. Having click and collect organised, long wait for service as no staff around. Product is good quality and I am pleased with it, does what I wanted.
J. P.
Looked for a broom handle, very confusing Isle number lay out but we found it after 30 minutes
P. R.
Good everything you need ,brand new store ,can be a pain to get to in rush hour
B. M.
Just a big DIY store. They have what you need!
H. D.
Perfect place for all hardware, home improvements and gardening needs.
P. G.
Clean well signposted shop. I did click and collect which was seamless.
W. H.
Went to buy a shower mixer. The shop is full of DIY stuff
G. T. C.
I am a local resident and continually go into the new B and Q for every DIY job I get myself involved in. Used to use screwfix for everything but to be honest I tend to now go to B and Q first off for the majority of things. If I can't get it at B and Q or its a lot cheaper at screwfix I will always now choose B and Q. Recently bought some shed felt, seems strong good quality stuff compared to previous felt purchased from wickes etc. 👍

New store, only recently opened. I chose a new cordless drill online, to replace a rather tired corded drill. The website stated that there were 3 in stock, so I thought I would go and have a look at the new store and pick up my new cordless drill. Looked at the demo model on display, selected the ticket and presented it to staff. I waited for several minutes then I was told that model was discontinued and they had no more. I informed the assistant that the website was showing 3 in stock, but was informed that was incorrect. So my experience of the new B&Q was rather poor, I didn't bother to have a walk around neither.
T. H.
B&Q does what it says onthe tin. Usual b&q experience(loads of product choice/parking/etc)
