Reviews of B&Q Edinburgh - Hermiston Gait
A large outlet for all things DIY home. There is a large selection from bathroom items to flooring. Their garden and outdoor range was really nice. The prices are reasonable and the staff were friendly. I'm giving 4 stars because it seemed to cater more to traders selling raw materials with little or no guidance for consumers like myself who don't have much knowledge. It would be really nice if they had guides, help and instructions for the various actions. For example, what are the common steps and extra tools one might need to repaint a wall rather than just here is some paint you can buy. Overall, it's a large outlet that you should be able to find what you are looking for.
Ok....just wanted to give a shout out to Willie, B&Q store adviser at the Cutting Wood section. Didn't even know B&Q offered this service. My son's partner was looking for shelving material. Willie worked to find the most cost effective option for her which involved one large board of wood. This needed to be cut to size for eight shelves. This he did taking time to cost appropriately. A whole station set up.which made the wood cutting easy - once you know how. And so very reasonably priced. Then he helped her to find the right screws and raw plugs to do the job. All in all very helpful professional efficient service with a dash of humour thrown in. Will pass the word around that this service is available. Generally staff here pleasant, helpful and upbeat. Thank you!
Staff are extremely knowledgeable and bend over backwards helping customers.
I'd like to particularly shout out the power tools department. I'm no expert, in fact I'm a software developer so I never use tools, but they helped me find the right hammer drill and associated bits and wall plugs.
A real credit to the B&Q name. I managed to mount my TV in 5 minutes thanks to the knowledge of the team.
A store with very helpful staff and a good stock of products. Unfortunately, I was let down by a recent purchase of "Tarmac kiln dried paving sand'. I purchased two bags but one bag of this overpriced product proved to be damp and unsuitable for its purpose. I have advised the store in case others are caught unaware and like me, spread the sand before realising it was too damp.
An amazing selection of everything you could need for DIY. Its so big you need a GPS Tracker to navigate the miles of aisles to find what you want without being distracted from all the other items you would have liked to have bought on the way
Love this shop. We found all the things needed from our new house: Farrow and ball paint, wallpaper, wooden floor, toilet, shower, garden things, bbq, tools, insulation boards, plants, garden table and more. Fair prices, friendly staff and lots of options. Quick home delivery also available 🚚 📦 …
Big store but you have be very careful with the pricing. Example :- I went in for a pot and potting compost. Found a nice pot but the price above seemed very reasonable and no price below! So I asked an assistant who wasn't sure but went to get a hand held computer and then said it was on wrong shelf! But turned out to be more than the nearest price. So onto compost , the 20l priced but the 50l no price ! Again I asked 😒 now the assistant seemed a little put out. However I thanked and moved on then I found the compost I wanted but again no price !! I looked for the assistant but gone . Was I going to look for her No! So came away with no pot or compost. This seems to be all over the store some goods either in wrong place or not priced. I have to this isn't on all goods but perhaps I'm just unlucky 😔 be careful.
Good DIY shop with different varieties. Good stock. Floor staff really helpful. They served us with smile and professional manners. Specially the girl who is in her 30s.
Front Till people could improve their customer service which can be started with a SMILE or EYE Contact. My friend who was with me said : 'May be B&Q not paying them (till people) well'! We Had a good laugh.
Few product are pricey then TOOLSTATION or SCREWFIX specially nuts & bolts side.
Recommended.
B&Q serves its function as the place where you can fill your boots with all the DIY stuff you need, plus an absolute ton of other stuff you either don't need, or just hadn't considered yet. Really its somewhere I prefer to avoid, get my stuff an go, but then typically find myself back there an hour later when I realize my pitiful DIY planning has missed a key element. The staff aren't particularly pleasant in the dealings I have had. They seem preoccupied and like they didn't expect (or want) any questions, which given people often like a professional steer with DIY, seems naïve at best. The absolute worst thing though is that even in 2022, they still have someone from CR Smith trying to hard sell you a conservatory as you leave.. covid should have condemned such interactions to the grave.
