Most of the staff know their stuff well which makes a big difference. Used other competitors in Edinburgh and felt hesitant with the lack of knowledge from some staff, so it's good to hear when staff know what they're talking about. Had to return and exchange an item recently and was an easy and hassle free process.

As usual, Cotswold selling good quality products from top brands. The staff were all polite and professional.

For such a compact store the ground floor had an expensive array of woman’s outdoor clothing. An assistant provided really useful information with regards to the varying features of technical jackets. There are no changing rooms but there is a mirror available. Be wary of a rising step on the left hand side of the shop. Although there is black and yellow tape over a risen wooden panel, both myself and another person tripped. This is not a deal breaker, just remember to look down as well as around :-).

All 3 staff members who approached me were super helpful and not pushy at all. Very knowledgeable staff. There were also well placed staff members who had a keen ear for asking questions when I wasn't even looking. Good effort team, always good to have a store to try things on!

Visited the Edinburgh store today to buy some boots on my way to Isle of Skye. Greeted by a very nice Irish man who talked me through all the options. Very pleased by his patience and manner and ended up with a beautiful pair of boots. He was great helping me with insoles for my arches. Would throughly recommend. Just starting Edinburgh uni and thought I’d try Cotswold Edinburgh. They have very helpful staff. David upstairs helped us with a pair of running shoes, I think he was the manager. We tried on about 7 pairs until we got the right ones. Very patient and understanding. Good range of shoes and a lot bigger upstairs than downstairs. Can’t wait to test them around the Pentland hills.

I picked collection as the website said that tent was available at the store. After purchase there was written that tent will be ready in 4 hours to collect I went to the store and been told that they don't have it in stock. I ended up waiting two weeks until it arrived from different store. Appart from that experience, staff at Edinburgh store was really nice and this was not their fault and I would recommend this store to anyone. Just make sure they have the stuff you want to collect at store first.

Prices similar to competitors, but they offer student discount so that's what gets me inside. A fairly large range and big sized shop (not as large as in Liverpool though). Staff friendly, and helpful. Only issue being a couple things didn't have price labels so you would have to find/ask staff.

I bought these in exchange for a pair of Diablo shoes that were on sale online that might have fitted but were too small. Cotswold staff were completely understanding about my need to try on shoes in store and sorted me out with refund and a selection of other rock shoes to try. Very pleased with the service and this is the advantage of going to a store with staff who do outdoor activities as well. Good central location for the store as well.

When the wrong rucksack was delivered into the store, the manager, CJ arranged for it to be offered to me for the same cost as the much cheaper one I had ordered. Unfortunately it didn't fit, but she did everything she could to help me find an alternative option, without any attempt to push me to buy an unsuitable bag when none of the affordable options fit me. In general, the knowledge and level of advice provided by the staff seems excellent!

I find it very difficult to get boots, rucksack and hiking clothing which fit me, to the point where I've just been using stuff I've owned for years which isn't great, but at least I know what the problems are. But after two weekends of not-very-enjoyable hiking, feeling too hot, too wind-blown, and too wet, and constantly trying to adjust by taking things off and putting other things on and then off again, I decided to try Cotswolds (I normally shop at the less pricey Mountain Warehouse). And I'm glad I did: the lovely sales assistant, Sarah, listened really well to what I wanted and didn't want, and found several really good options which fit me and had the features I wanted, and she talked me through several rucksack options, discussing very knowledgeably all the features, and I'm really, really happy with my purchases. I went into the shop feeling I probably wouldn't find anything close to what I wanted - this has happened many times before - and I've come away feeling satisfied that the rucksack and jacket I bought are the best possible options for me. The shop has lots of good stock, but Sarah's help was crucial for me.

It is quite expensive, but staff are both knowledgeable and friendly. What I did not like is their policy of not allowing anyone to try clothing on in the change rooms, I offered to leave my own coat at the checkout but the guy still refused. Nice clothes and quality equipment in this shop.

Great shop for outdoor gear in the middle of Edinburgh, very handy, 2 mins from Waverly station and the central bus station. I found OS maps here that I thought may be out of stock as they are for the popular local Pentland Hills. They had them all. A quick look around was all I had time for. I thought a little expensive but I did get a free Cotswold Outdoor card which I hope has some benefits. For outdoor enthusiasts, this is a nice modern shop, well laid out and the staff are friendly.
