D. W.This hardware shop is located on Alness High Street, with another similar shop next to it. With both shops originally formed from houses that had part of their ground floor front rooms turned into small shops, in the late 1960s, the small village of that time started to grow as new housing estates were built to house the influx of workers required by an oil rig production yard, plus an aluminium smelter being built onthe northern shores of the Cromarty Firth. Now Alness is classed as a small town, with more housing being built on many areas of farmland and vacant spaces surrounding Alness. As a result the small shops had extensions built out to the rear of the houses, making long but narrow shops, though both of these hardware shops seem to carry a reasonable and varied amount of items, and if an item isn't in stock, or has sold out, the staff are only too willing to try to order the item, which might arrive in a couple of days, but saving a 40+ round drive, or bus ride into Inverness.
