I've been a customer of HBS for over 8 years. In general my experience has been positive, and as a local building shop its very convenient. The staff are usually very friendly and helpful. However I felt compelled to write this because on the last couple of visits the customer service has been below par. There seems to be one particularly disgruntled member of staff that I wouldn't wish on anyone. As long as you don't meet him, you should be fine. And if you do, make sure you don't ask any questions, especially more than once.

Never had any issues, nice staff and service. I got help selecting some nice timber from higher up and they let me use their hand saw to cut it to size. Sure, sometimes it's annoying not everything is in stock but as it's not massive warehouse this is totally fine. You can give them call upfront...

Very confused of other reviews. The staff at HBS are some of the most helpful and always willing to go that extra mile. Have turned up at all different times during the day and they still welcome you and are friendly. I've only been a customer for the past month. But wish I d used them before. Very competitive pricing and delivery brilliant service.

It's good to work with such a friendly, knowledgeable firm right in the heart of East London. Such a difference compared to the big, faceless national super-merchants who lack the experienced staff to help you. These guys are keen on price as well as service; top marks HBS !

Great local shop for all DIY needs. Helpful and friendly staff. Only thing is that it needs to fill up the shelves and get some more light in the shop.

I use these guys regularly. They are on average the most helpful merchant I use. They remember who you are and always go out of their way to help you with supplies and materials. So much better than going to a larger chain where you feel like a number !

always cheaper than TP /build centre and better than b&q ,the delivery is first class and the team will do what they say,i have used them 6 times and always been inpessed. the lorry driver was a rotund chap and his shorts were a little too tight for comfort...i think they need to suppl;y copany shorts that fit a little better. still i bet the old girls love it.
