Reviews of Homebase - London Streatham Vale (including Bathstore)
J. D.
We went to Homebase on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised. The store wasn't too crowded and we managed to find what we were looking for pretty quickly; in this case paint, painting materials and a large plant pot. The checkouts weren't too busy so we didn't have to queue for long.
S. I.
Happy they're still there. They have many products but no longer stock the Dulux Light and Space paint range. Website shows that it does the paint. Maybe only online and then delivery fee on top. 🤷🏻♀️ I think better to call the store for stock availability before making the journey.
J. B.
Homebase is hard to describe... it is a store that carries a large selection in a very boring way. Goods are there but have to be sought out - it is almost as if they have been deliberately hidden. Displays are bland and unexciting, like a single person who has put on dowdy clothes to hide any attractiveness. The impression is very dingey like it desperately needs a makeover but just can't be bothered.
Stock is hit-and-miss, online the stock is there but in person it cannot be found. The overall confused sense of the shop is reflected in the staff. Some staff are really helpful whilst others give the impression that they would enjoy their jobs if it wasn't for the annoyance of customers interrupting their conversations.
Bottom line is that shopping at Homebase is a hit-and-miss affair and it is reflected in the non-committal 3-star rating. Summed up in one word... bland.
D. M.
Great for your bits and pieces. It's local has a good variety of items for decorating the home. COVID safety measures are in place.
M. K.
Highly recommend this store because 9f the staff. Been served by Ladies with amazing approach. Store by itself well maintain and easy to explore.
Staff is more than 5 stars. Thank you for a lovely experience!
V. J.
My local Homebase, I'm so glad it's within walking distance as many a time we've needed stuff for the house and thought I'll get it from here. It's very handy lol. If you feel like driving there is a free car park too. You can get most of your diy supplies here, you can order online and pick up in store or check stock online and reserve in store. Staff are always knowledgeable and helpful and the garden department will not let you down.
Y. E.
Went to look at this garden furniture which I am having delivered from another branch. Needed to buy a cover for it. Queues can get very long here at the weekend. Staff here are very helpful. My only criticism is their carpark which is regulated by a private company. You only get 60 minutes to browse and shop.
S.
Big store with a large outdoor garden centre. Really good selection of outdoor plants.
J. M.
Mills and Donelle were excellent today! Very pleased with their service
N. W.
Not that convenient a journey for me, but great prices and stock made it worthwhile. Helpful staff, too!
F. A.
One stop solution for hone renovation and repair needs (at least as far as my requirements were) at sensible prices.
N. L.
It is a big store. Plenty of summer plants for sale. I was disappointed to learn that there were no toilets available despite the cut off location. Be aware of Homebase parking restrictions on returning, if you decide you forgot to buy something. The staff was very pleasant, but couldn't find most of my shopping items. It seems you have more chances to buy online and get them delivered to the store. As long as you come along to collect them.
R. t.
Nice place, with very friendly staff and lots of different things to buy at reasonable prices. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is due to the highly restrictive parking. 1hour is just not long enough for a shop of this size. I found myself rushing to get out the door in time and this to be counterproductive.
E. “. Z.
Decent gardening section, plenty of plants to choose from. Well stocked with all sorts of bits and bobs you might need around your household. Some stuff can be on a pricey side.
Not many tills are open at one time, resulting in very long queues.
Friendly and helpful staff.
N. B.
Well stocked. Good parking. Covid cleaning materials available. No composory wearing of masks by staff or customers.
N. V.
Went here for a click and collect order, was very simple and quick to do.
S. B.
Stock not always available but staff very helpful
J. K.
I wanted a reading lamp and they had one that I particularly liked. It was out of the package. I assumed it must have been a display one. Unfortunately, there was no price tag. Checked with the staff and the young was very helpful and polite. Took it the counter for price check
But the lady at the checkout was very abrupt and rather rude. Upon checking the price, she decided I should pay the full price despite the fact that the light frame is partly brocken, I was going to diy it. It didn't make sense and I could see how the young was also in doubt with her pricing.
I left and started searching for reading light from Amazon, Argos and e-bay. The additional star is for the young staff who helped me. Thank you
C. D.
Visited store for pebbles had a good range, ended up buying blue stone slate for my mother's grave.
L. E.
Fantastic service from Suzie and Tarum today. Whilst loading my car with newly bought paint, one pot fell over causing the lid to come off and spill within the footwell of my car. They were quick to help and go above and beyond, using their experience, to save what would have been a dreadful moment ruining my day to just a minor hiccup. Greatly appreciated!
B. J.
Went to the outside Garden centre, and I have to say, the plants did not look as nice as what the Wandsworth store use to do. I don't know whether it could be because the summer season is nearly over.
M. M.
It has a lot of things you need for your home refurbishment repair and good quality and price is worth for it. I will recommend ppl should shop at Homebase
A. B. (.
It is a good DIY and garden centre store well stocked. Everyone is always very nice and helpful there. It's never too busy, a good car park..
s. f.
Great value on plant pots, only bad thing was pots not all priced up. So once you get to the till to pay, staff have to get someone to go back and check price listed so you can be waiting while others are served. so time wasted.
m. s.
Enough parking space and good quality products.
B. L.
Good selection of stuff, and the lady at the till went out of her way to get us bbq gas, despite the fact she still had to cash up after
D. B.
Never knew this was up the road from me friendly staff & lots of sale bits
I. B.
UPDATE: Public Consultations have 'kinda' been asking (what with Covid) our thoughts about a huge residential estate on the land that is Homebase, centering on a 14 story residential tower with no parking.
Strangely enough when looking at their options there wasn't one that said,.could I just keep my D.I.Y.store please.
ORIGINAL POST
Only major DIY store in Streatham (Vale) area. Close to Streatham Common Railway Station and also has good bus links. Plenty of free parking, can get a little busy on the weekends though.
It's a good size store and has a mezzanine level where the fitted kitchens, bathrooms and soft furnishings are kept. Tricky to access this level if mobility impaired, have never seen a lift and I've looked for one.
The only major issue here tends to be a lack of staff on the tills. A long queue and a single open check-out is fairly common. This is all the more annoying as there is always staff milling around customer services, either not willing or not able to assist by opening up another till.
Important Note
This store is not closing!
For now at least it is being retained as the company goes through a financial restructuring plan, which is seeing mass store closures across the country.
PLEASE READ IMPORTANT UPDATE AT BEGINNING OF MESSAGE
a. p.
They sell all the things. So many things. Staff were friendly and helpful too.
C. P.
Easy to find, park and get around. Has an excellent selection for the house and garden and a must for all your home decorating needs. Staff couldn't be more helpful.
T.
It is very difficult to get staff to answer phone enquiries. Not disabled friendly, as there are no wheelchairs available for customers to borrow.
J. F.
This store is always busy on a weekend. It has really good stock but the store is always understaffed. Its not easy to find someone to help with advice on DIY projects or to help find an item. I've had to ask the security guard on occasion
J. S.
The new play park is really nice.
M. C.
Really gone down hill since they sold out. No customer service desk so have to queue up at normal tills which are almost always busy holding the queues up even more. Wallpaper displays are practically empty, other sections are low on stock. Prices are not always available. Online stock check is not updated most times. Plenty of times I've ordered and not in stock even though it says it is. Wouldn't surprise me if this place closes down soon!
T. P.
It's alright for what you need to do your home crafts. But queues stretch round the store at most times. Barely anyone in departments to ask for help on the shop floor and prices are extortionate when compared to other retailers on many items
e. W.
Thankfully this branch had what I needed.
It is just a shame I have to travel so far from where I live to get to this Homebase when I had one literally 20 mins from in Wandsworth which is now closed down.
Good branch had all what I needed
L. B.
We went in to look at the storage boxes which seemed to be all over the place and mixed up. The floor staff very helpful and pleasant and sorted our request. Shame the same couldn't be said for a male manager. Who was rude to a member of staff we had stopped to ask help us. Walking past and berating them in front of us for not doing the task he had set them obviously because they had stopped to help a customer. Was embarrassing for us and them...Hello we are the customer we come before anything else and he seriously needs to learn some manners this gives the company a poor image.
P. K.
I recently had an issue with my Ryobi multitool which required it to be replaced under warranty. Unfortunately Homebase had stopped stocking this tool since I'd bought it in the now closed down Homebase Guildford. Gerald from Homebase Streatham went above and beyond helping me sort a replacement one instead of just offering a refund when I really needed the tool itself! One happy customer!
C. P.
Needed some mastic to fill small holes in leaking flat roof. Only needed small tin.Popped into Homebase and was back home to do job before it rained again!2 lovely ladies on check out. Coronavirus about so queued for short. They were very helpful and understanding. Friendly but professional. Thank you. Job done.
N. C.
Great shop but loads of items aren’t priced correctly especially at the back of the shop on the outside, some items I wanted to get but there was either no price to it or it faded with the rain and sometimes it isn’t very clear.
a. d.
Great place. Very useful!!!
R. S.
I often use this store since it's fairly local and usually has parking spaces available. It sells a good range of paints and related products. However the stock and range of timber and construction products is limited. It has a garden section with a range of seasonal plants, often there are bargains to be found there. The store has a wide range of hardware products and some furniture. There's also a kitchen and bathroom section upstairs.
M. J.
Placed order online and received confirmation to collect within the hour. All good 👍.
p. p.
Awesome staff, very friendly approach
E. J.
Got my order very quickly why not 5 stars because I had to leave the queue to pay for other stuff I bought gben go to customer desk to collect my order then rejoin the queue to pay. However the staff carried my item to the car for me.
A. L.
I found it had all i needed.the lady in the garden ctr saturday was a mine of knowledge.thank you annette for your advice.
R. O.
Good stock range, poorly understaffed with obvious signs of stress. If you can find it without assistance, you'll get what you need for your DIY, but at a surprising price. I say "Surprising" because you're lucky if something has a price on the shelf, and even if there is one, there's a 90% chance the price is wrong. Is it higher priced? Lower? Who knows, spin the wheel!
J. G. G.
Last of the big Homebases , goos show what what what
J. B.
You can buy some solid bits of wood here, and great value chairs, or use the wood to build some chairs. The opportunities are endless.
Great store, good value, wonderful service.
S.
Well stocked store, like any large business does have some grumpy and unhelpful staff, but overall good. Store likely to close due to redevelopment of site.
N. K.
It’s an ok place to buy some indoor and outdoor plants as well as tools needed to finish or renovate an apartment. Got some nice pots fitting the plants I bought for my home. They have recent price and offer help in most of the sectors. I recommend the place if you’re looking for some garden plants.
C. K.
Went there to find some new plants for the front garden, got them and now planning the plants later today.
Staff were there, the one way system works well during the eased lockdown.
M. C.
Ordered for click and collect. Received message when order was ready. No problems with collection. Staff were helpful.
V. O.
I didn't have a gd experience at this store. Travelled 1.5hrs only to be told that my click and collect could not be found. Store and staff seemed disorganized
M. M.
Visited the streatham store today and was surprised that customer service does exist!
I was served by a young lady that was not only polite. courteious and smiley she took an interest in my purchase and asked me questions regarding my decoration needs.
I very rarely write reviews but I believe this young lady deserves recognition for her manners and personal touch.
I will definitely return to the store just for the service Van has provided.Even though the uniform is horrendous!
P.
My wife and I popped into Homebase in Streatham vale yesterday to look at garden furniture and garden equipment and we were both very pleased with the attention from the sales team , in particular Gill, she understood the product and availability and certainly made our mind up regarding what to buy. Just have to save the money to pay for it now. Thank you
J. W.
Trollies that have a mind of their own and only one person checkout working both tills alternately. One for cash and one for card. Poor thing ...felt sorry for her.
H. P.
Nearest Homebase to Croydon.Very inconvenient as there used to be one in Croydon. I only went there because they did a certain colour paint, otherwise would use B & Q , Screwfix etc Croydon
L. G.
Homebase has changed quite a bit since i last went in there. They have a variety of beautiful flowers.
When I was looking for laundry baskets and storage boxes, I saw a lot of them were smashed and broken, which was the same for quite a lot of things in there.
The display kitchens upstairs were alright, but it was quite a mess up there. Many drawers and cupboard doors were already broken.
R. S.
Didn't have what we needed but good alternative suggested. Appreciate the cat makes it more homely but I am allergic so weary of having a reaction. Traffic is a bit annoying around the area. Other than this good store and staff.
V. T.
The garden area is not maintained sadly and pricing is nowhere to be seen. Plants are sadly left to wilt.
A. O.
This Homebase store is well stocked and has good staff. But on this occasion on Saturday lunchtime the queues were long and I could have left the few items I bought but I had an urgent need for lightbulbs.
L. O.
friendly, efficient staff.
also the only place for a few days in the area that had stocks of sharp sand!
a. a.
To the lovely lady Homebase staff member on the door at Homebase Streatham today 4-5pm, Thank You so much for your kindness and support today. We really appreciate you making our day so much easier.
B. S. d. O.
Good shop and nice stuff, but don't even try to use their DPD drop off service. The staff is not trained well and very often say that "the system" doesn't work rather than help..
D. D.
This store isn't in the heart of Streatham, it is quite a walk from the high road. It sells all the usual things a do-it-yourself store has, including tools, paint, wallpaper. It also sells items for your bathroom, kitchen, bedroom. All sorts of plumbing equipment, wood for for all your carpentry needs. They also have a great selection of indoor plants, as well as plants for your garden boarders, window boxes and pots, included in these are vegetables and fruit. They have a good selection of garden furniture and bar-b-ques. They also sell all different sizes of pots and window boxes. It also has free parking. The only down side is it is more expensive then some other similar stores. If you like this review, can you please click the like symbol below. Thank you!
L. W.
I have never seen such a messy shop. Total chaos. Very hard to find anything but a very very nice staff member called Daniellle saved the experience...it would have been one star without her. Back again 4 months later and this place is still a tip. Staff too busy chatting and audibly being rude about customers and seems like less than 50% of stock is proced and / or in the right place. It makes a simple shop feel like a mission impossible...avlid if you can!
V. H.
Pleasantly surprised by just how delightful their plant pots are! And so much choice! They had a very good selection of cactus plants when I was last there.
M. B.
A large enough home and garden store. Split level downstairs paints and lights towards the back gardening and plants on the back yard. Upstairs is more the home side kitchens and other stuff. Normally will have offers around the holidays
M. C.
Went there for Christmas lights and, hallelujah, they had what we were after. This bucks the trend as being an annoying DIY store not having the thing you're after either because they've run out of stock or they've arbitrarily discontinued it.
A. H.
It's a go too place for DIY stuff, however, go early because it can take time to checkout because of crowds.
R. A.
Lovely range of indoor and out door plants, all DIY tools, painting colours and many many more.
H. P.
Friendly and helpful staff, great range of products in stock
L. I.
More expensive than other DIY shops but as it is the only one near me it had to do. The staff were nice
L. A.
Homebase are always easy to work with helpful staff and always great selection of items👌
K.
Polite service at check out. Found what I needed without any problem. Even though there were not that many customers 2 check out tills were operative
S. P.
Social distance was great, the security on the door was fab, he really made it welcoming, hand sanitising great and that welcome smile, thanks homemade was a pleasure.
C.
Good selection of homeware, staff are helpful. Decently priced.
P. T.
Overall the store is a bit tired also reduced the sanitising to inside the store only. Most people were wearing masks
L. B.
The staff as always are very nice and friendly, they can't help the fact that the quality of the merchandise and the range has fallen off steadily over the past few years
S. G.
Love this place! So sad to know that it's going soon 😢
A. G.
Due to social distancing measures only a limited number of checkouts are open which can cause quite significant delays in paying for goods
S. A.
This store has a good selection of products with good stock levels. Ample parking. I've been really pleased wiyh service when I've visited
k. S. p.
Staff very helpful
L. C.
The staff are very helpful. I know your closing alot of stores it would be a bad mistake if you closed this one as there are no diy stores nearby when you don't drive. Please leave this store open.
J. W.
Guy ignored me twice and then bite my head off when I asked for farrow and ball paint mix . Must be having a really bad day
His colleague made up for him , penge store. Mixes f&b
L. D.
Nice selection of diy and gardening equipment. Competitively priced with good special offers on plants.
l. l.
It was very busy. Good selection of plants and compost. Nice christmas trees.
M. S.
I like it. No issues with it. Long live Homebase. Just heard it's closing down. Being replaced by a proposed 14 storey apartment block. Terrible news
L. B.
Much improved over the years. I was relieved that it survived the recent pruning of stores. Very convenient and the staff know their store well.
r. d.
Went there to purchase wallpaper that aisle was really not very inviting wallpaper all over the place empty shelves where wallpaper should be no impressed
A. S.
Little glimpse of hope in this shop . First time that I get first class customer care service by young chap called Martin . He really made my shopping trip effortless and enjoyable .
J. C.

Exciting and busy place, especially on a bank holiday. Nice and friendly staff with their tool belts and assisting customers. See you guys again..
N. H.
Went to get wood floor filler and Eric really was helpful. Gave me some good suggestions on what options I have and they have really helped.
t.
Good sized store. Usually has everything I stock. But id advise checking online beforehand
K. W.
It was ok, no queue, never a very tidy shop though, lighting seems dim and it looks a little unorganized.
A. F.
The staff at Homebase in Streatham Vale have always been very helpful. They go the extra mile to help the customer and take their time to helping me to find what I'm looking for. Always a pleasure to shop there.
T. C.
Big store with a good garden section. Get there on a Friday if it's bank holiday for the best plants. Plenty parking
I. P.
Great place to pick up paint and a large variety of home and gardening diys although I felt the outdoor plants and flowers are lacking
L. G.
The customer service lady who helped me and a trades man to find and reserve a hammer was very helpful and friendly on 25/03/2019 she does deserve a raise or bonus in my eyes went above and beyond for me
A. S.
Not very well stocked/ and do not have the same variety as argos for example when comes to home accessories
A.
Homebase wasn't busy on Saturday morning. Good selection of items

T. G.

E. G.
Went in to pick up an online order. There was a short queue but I was dealt with very quickly.,
O. W. K.
Good offers for summer items and furniture but those queues... Do not recommend poor quality outdoor solar lamps and water sprinklers
B. T. a. T.
Nice shop. It isn't the large type though and often it's difficult to find a staff member for support. Nice plant department

E. B.
Lots of plants in stock, helpful staff and effective social distancing measures.
j. N.
Convenient, good prices and selection but very few staff and consequently poor customer service.
