Lovely shop, helpful & knowledgeable staff. The range of stock is really comprehensive & good quality. Those are the main reasons they have withstood lockdowns, recessions and larger competitors. Newport will also send what you want to smaller branches. I've used Hurst's in Ryde, Cowes & Newport since 1985 for everything DIY, hardware & gifts..excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

Ordered a Spear and Jackson Lopper from Amazon only to be told on the planned delivery day there would be an undefined delay. Found on-line that Hurst's had stock and even with shipping costs from the island still worked out £10 cheaper than Amazon ! I ordered on Sunday and took delivery two days later. I know who I will try for gardening gear in future ...well done Hurst's!

Great shop. Sells everything you could possibly want in hardware and things for the home. The Newport shop is the biggest and stocks more than the smaller branches which is why we went for a particular random item but the smaller shops are full of character and have great quality stuff and a great range too.

I ordered a desk fan online at 2pm yesterday from W Hurst & Son at a competitive price and free local delivery. This beats other online retailers hands down. When the fan arrived today at 8.30am, I was amazed at its build quality and it's a British brand, Tower... remember their pressure cookers, those of a certain age?

I've always liked Hursts & have shopped there for nearly 40 years but today something was wrong. Something in the back ground probably. Customers arrive happy and excited like on an adventure (out of Lock Down) but staff are very moody. One little guy even made physical contact with my shoulder, pointing & grumpy that I didn't see immediately the product I asked about. Then scuttled off leaving me to as another staff member about the price "its on the shelf" no it wasn't. Finally the poor lady looked up the prices but talking about customers to another staff in font of them is unacceptable. But then she did have a bad throat that she stopped to take a drink for and a cough that needed her to be off sick at least! There seems to be a policy of not communicating with customers - opposite of the Hursts I was familiar with. I hope this review will help towards that communication that made the shop popular in the past. Also please update your website as products you have are not always findable on the existing site. We are used to searching for something & finding it without having the exact name for it. Amazon Ebay obvious examples. Prices in Hursts have competitive with Amazon in my experience so 5 stars for that. One star for the physical contact moody little guy and one star for talking about customers instead of to them. 5 stars for past good times in the shop. Total 3 stars

Whatever you need in the home whether it's for DIY or nice things you get it here. The staff are excellent and have good knowledge of their goods. I have always been given excellent advice regarding getting any job I do in the home and their various sections are beautifully presented.

The general staff in the store are polite and friendly however some (not all) of the male staff in the tool section seem moody and not very helpful, one younger male member of staff is extremely helpful and polite though. A shame as this is a great shop generally.

Great hardware chain with a good mix of indoor and outdoor item's. Tools, kitchen wear . Light bulbs, garden tools , lighting and electrical goods ect. Very helpful staff.

Try Hursts First is the motto and for good reason. This is Alladin's cave when it comes to finding something you want. Kitchen utensils, yep. Garden equipment, you bet. Plumbing items, sure (though specialist items are found elsewhere). Need some screws or nails or bolts or nuts, they'll have what you need. And rather than buying 1000 when you only need 5, you can get 5. And it'll be some silly price like 25p. It's a great place for things for your house, garden, garage, man cave, shed or whatever. If you're doing some work and you're in doubt, Try Hursts First (except on Sundays as they're shut). All the staff I've encountered are very helpful and knowledgeable.

You can always find what your looking for in Hursts. Even if it's parts to repair noahs ark. My only concern is. I was looking at a product on there website. I took the item number to the Newport shop. And they couldn't check it because there was no computer in the shop to cross match. The shop is still in the past. Staff where polite and friendly.

The staff were absolutely brilliant, I visited here with a elderly gent today that I help take shopping from time to time, he is what a lot may say, very argumentative, always right and just unique. He tried to pick an argument with the staff today about how he should be aloud to put things in his bag before he pays for them, well hats off to this particular staff member he handled the situation superbly with the greatest professionalism and made suggestions like maby next time use a basket and then told him where they were. The man whos name i don't know has worked there for years and is a credit to the company. (I will find out his name one day and edit this when I do)

Was looking for a furniture shop which we eventually found and stumbled across in doing so my god what a shop it is all though we didn't buy anything on that day I know we will as it has everything we need it is massive we just kept on finding more and more sections although it is not on one level it does have ramps that take wheelchair users to ever part unlike most shops that are family run i hope this one can servive in this modern computer age love love love this shop

We live part of the Year in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. We were introduced to Hurst in Cowes, a satellite shop, well stocked with a most helpful staff. The Newport shop is the Mother Ship with an amazing array of products. If Hurst doesn't have it I have no idea who will. As with the Cowes shop, excellent service by knowledgeable staff. A real jewel of an old fashioned hardware store with lots of extras.
