R. B.Can’t speak highly enough of this place. Went in search of a hinge for an old upvc door. The gentleman searched suppliers etc and got me one within a few days. Unfortunately this was slightly the wrong dimension. When I took it back he spent at least half an hour trying to find a correct fit. In the end it was not possible. However this is not the point. The point is the great service provided and the effort that was made to help me. Wouldn’t get that in any diy chain. Will always come back here. Many thanks.
T. W.What a wonderful find! I’m afraid i’m somewhat of a DIY disaster. We were trying to get some wood for some shelving around our new home. We went to a chain DIY store but couldn’t find exactly what we need. As it was after 12 on a Saturday there weren’t many businesses open but this one was! Beautiful family run business, served by a gentleman whos grandfather started the business, wood was professionally measured by the son of tge gentleman and cut (with supervision) by the grandson. So lovely to find such a wonderful local gem, one of those “has everything” kind of shops! Thankyou all so much for your wonderful and helpful support. We will be back!!

Z.Do not think this shop has changed in years the staff are always pleasant and helpful they have a great knowledge of what they sell if you are not sure of what you need they will steer you in the right direction. I remember it being there when I was a child so they must be doing something right.

H. L.Philpotts is a handy store but I particularly like the fact that they sell used office desks / chairs etc and they deliver for a small price. It’s a timber yard also and they sell hardware.
W. W.They have the majority of what you could need for DIY in the tools department. If they have not got it in stock, they can usually get it in the shop within a few days. The staff are always helpful with advice plus there is a large stock of the various types of wood and boarding. Which if required can be cut to size in their large workshop.

J. K. G. (. B.Philpott's is a proper hardware store & timber merchants who have all most everything you need either in stock or just a couple of days wait. The staff are always friendly & professional, the kind of service you are happy to pay a bit more for.
D. T.If this place doesn't sell it, then it isn't worth owning. Generations of knowledge stored in an aladdins cave of tools and timber, still owned by the same family and they've been in business for over 100 years. If you're shopping at screwfix then you're missing a trick. Shop local, shop smart.
P.As always, the place to go for any DIY stuff and knowledgeable helpful staff. May they continue to prospere so that we don't have to rely solely on the big DIY stores.

P. B.Philpotts is a very good and carry lots of stock. They are also very helpful but it's one of those places that unfortunately I forget is there so I end up going to the DIY stores first and then buying there as the DIY stores are expensive or do not have what I was after.

H.It's OK going to the big DIY shops but you don't get the personal touch that you get from Philpotts, you can get everything you need it's impossible to list I would definitely recommend you to have a look at least you could have a surprise as the big stores aren't always the cheaper, it's easy to get to & you can park at the side of it in Fountain Street.
