Reviews of Southmead Hospital Emergency Department

Sent across to A&E last week after speaking to 111, was seen by a number of wonderful doctors & nurses who got me sorted and sent off with a treatment plan within a couple of hours. The condition needed relatively quick attention and they kept me constantly updated on the progress of test results etc. On another note the staff in other departments looked after my Grandad for 8 weeks and made a horrible situation just a bit easier to deal with for the whole family.

Part of the huge hospital complex so access to good facilities. If you can walk for five minutes you can avoid on-site paid for parking

Attended A/E today with husband who has had a small heart attack. Fantastic service from all must mention Doris MarieChris Dr Paul and DR Andy. Excellent care by all even though department busy, when we arrived 07.00 A/E had an 8 hour wait. Quick assessment treatment and diagnosis bit of a wait for a bed but it didn’t matter hubby in bed on Ward 31by 19.30. Must also thank the two ambulance ladies who picked us up from Greenacres park and started treatment sorry I didn’t catch their names. A great big thankyou to you all and good luck with your strike you’re worth millions to me and my family.

Although this department can get VERY busy with long waits, the nurses and doctors here work very hard to attend to the needs of the patients. They are attentive and caring.
There is a small car park here, but during busy times it gets filled quickly. There is a drop off area too.

Bit of a wait but not their fault as very busy. Treated with respect and compassion by staff, especially the doctor attending me. Very thorough in their dealings with me.

Amazing every member of staff I met treated me with the utmost respect. Yes I had to wait 5 hours to be seen but it wasn’t anyones fault that I had kidney stones. When I was seen the diagnosis was explained to me and I was soon on my way. What I will say is I witnessed some uncomfortable situations of members of the public yelling at the staff. Witnessing this made me ashamed but very proud of how our NHS dealt with every situation thrown at them.

I just had a treatment at the A&E and can’t fault the staff or the hospital.
The nurse who stitched my wound was professional and kind.
Thank you.

I came in with a complicated issue, to my relief the staff from when I came into reception and subsequent doctors, helpers and nurses I cannot fault their compassion. When I was well and fit enough to leave the ward I felt so grateful and wanted those working at Southmead to know this. P.S The food was rather good! (especially the mashed potatoes)

I have nothing but good things to say about the experience I had here today. The staff were calm and professional, every one. The nurse that saw me dealt with a very nasty gash on my shin with great skill and tenderness. I left a very happy man, patched up properly and relieved that I'd come.
I'd like to say a very sincere "thank you" to Rachael for treating me so well, and to all the staff for doing such a marvellous job for everyone, every day!

I had a really good experience. All the staff were helpful and understanding. The room and the bathroom were very clean. They provided me with Halal food, and they also gave me coffee. They explained to me all issues, and whenever I had a question the were happy to answer. They were also happy to come again whenever I didn't understand. If someone doesn't understand English, they will find someone to translate for him/her.

I went in for an emergency operation and have been back for a number of follow up scans. On every occasion I could fault the warmth, helpfulness and professionalism of the staff nor the facilities the site offers. A shining example of excellence.

Thankyou Nhs for attending to my urgent medical need, all the staff where fantastic and treatment was a prompt as possible in a very busy A&E department.

I've only got glowing reports of all the departments that I've been in contact with at Southmead. The staff are so warm and friendly. I think they all deserve a medal, because they're constantly on the go for 12 hours or more, and on their feet for most of it. I couldn't do it.

Excellent care. Overworked staff.
Deserve every penny and more that they are paid .
.. thank

I think we arrived at one of the less busy times for the department, but my mother in law, who had fallen down the stairs, was in, scanned, x-ray'd, blood taken and analysed, in less than four hours. The staff were wonderful and put M-I-L, and her worried family completely at ease with their cheerful demeanour and clear, concise information. Luckily, our story had a happy outcome, but I am in awe of the doctors, nurses and staff who work in our hospitals, and can't thank them enough.

Absolutely good experience!! Been here few times with others, at busiest of hours it can take very long but otherwise very patient, caring and understanding staff.
Most people review them on waiting hours but otherwise nothing less than clean, new and relatively fresh infrastructure.

It was ok, as I had to be seen by medical staff

Although the ED can get very busy and as always the NHS is under funded and over stretched the ED at Southmead Hospital is one of the best. All of the staff are friendly and helpful and the standards are kept high!
