Couldn’t get near my GP today and was told by the GP receptionist to call NHS24. They advised me to go to A&E Hairmyres. The place was mobbed and the wait was long (heard a lot of similar stories while I waited of people being directed there by GP for minor stuff). Despite how manic it was the reception staff were lovely, other staff were offering drinks of water and when I was taken to minor injuries they could not have been any more pleasant or thorough. The charge nurse on today was particularly lovely. She made me feel very comfortable (as I felt my injury wasn’t bad enough to be clogging up their time but I didn’t know what else to do) and she was very friendly and chatty while she was helping me. The doc and medical student were really nice too. To all be like that in the midst of chaos says a lot about them. Thank you.

Being to emergency department today,Very busy whole day, salute to reception team, nurses and all operative staff.words are so so tiny to say thanks and appreciation. Really devoted and helpful to single single patient waiting in lounge. Serving water for patients from coming out from reception.
Nurses were very much patience and efficient salute to them aswell.
Regards
Patient

I only spent about 24 hours in Hairmyres. I had been admitted to Wishaw and then transferred to the Cath Lab for an angioplasty. Although that ward held up to 8 patients my corner felt quite private and I had easy access to a very modern and clean shower and toilet. The nursing staff were excellent, particularly the night staff. They were always professional but happy to chat in order to put you at your ease in what could have been a stressful situation. During the first morning I was wheeled into an amazingly high tech theatre where I had two stents inserted absolutely painlessly. The following morning I was free to go home. I must admit, I was a little surprised I barely spoke to a doctor.
Nevertheless, you guys will never know just how grateful I am to everybody at the hospital including the ambulance staff who transferred me

My Mum had her hip replaced at Hairmyers this week, we cannot thank the staff from ward 5 enough, they are amazing, patient and so kind, we honestly couldn't praise the staff enough. Also the nurse Margaret (the injection nurse)who helped me get my mum to the car, she went out of her way and made sure I could get my Mum into the car okay, she wasn't from ward 5 but she was so happy to help us. Thank you all so much. What a lovely caring environment.

My husband recently had a bad dog bite to hi hand. The treatment here has been excellent. He is being seen twice a week, now attending Orthopaedic department and also receiving physio. Staff have been great.

Fiinal thanks to the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists for their patience and for giving me the confidence to walk again. God Bless the NHS

Like to thank all staff at hospital from A&E to ward 3 and now ward 9 for the way they have all attended my wife since her admission on Saturday morning 06.30. Big thank you all from my family 👪

Just home after 4 day stay in ward 4 I was treated with the utmost dignity by all the staff from the cleaners to the surgeons. I cannot thank them enough for all the care an attention I received during my stay. Well done NHS.

Just back from being admitted to ward 4. From a&e for 3 days Although wait was long as hospital was so busy and full to capacity the treatment was amazing !! All staff in a&e and especially the ward were outstanding always had a smile. Porters and assistants always cheery with a smile, nurses friendly and professional and the doctors went over and above to make sure you got what you needed. Special shout out to my doc ( not sure of his name ) who took time to draw me a diagram and explain exactly what was happening and will happen with my future operation very happy with my care :)
B. H.
Clean hospital, easy access to the required clinic ... handy cafe and newsagent on site - short walk from the car park - near bus stops and train station to East Kilbride and Glasgow

Was in ward 3. All staff absolutely fantastic. Kind, caring, gentle and hard working. Food is very plain fare but I noted a significant improvement since I was last there about 4 years ago. They never stop cleaning. I can't fault my treatment or the care

I was admitted with very high blood sugar due to diabetes. I am so grateful for the the kindness of the doctors and nurses and paramedics who took care of me. I have no real recollection of my journey to the hospital in the ambulance or my time in A+E due to my sugar levels, goodness knows what I have said! But I had an overnight stay and all I can say is that I am very grateful for the care I received. I'm also severely disabled with M.E and normality use an electric wheelchair to get around, but the nurses were brilliant in getting me to the toilet etc as my wheelchair was at home. It was a good ward and reasonably quiet. The only thing I have an issue with is that it was a mixed ward. I strongly feel that it is highly inappropriate to have male patients share the same ward with female patients for many reasons. It makes it extremely difficult and almost impossible to speak to nurses and doctors about deeply personal issues and the other problems that arise with sharing a ward with mostly men. I was very uncomfortable and uneasy with it. This needs to stop. However the nurses kept the curtains drawn round my bed at night so I could have privicy. Other than that, I've no complaints. Only a huge thank you. I love my coffee and was very grateful for nurses offering me coffee once I was on the mend. I enjoyed my breakfast and lunch the next day before I went home. Another thing, the porters were brilliant as well, they do a smashing job! Thanks again for looking after me!

Another amazing review for this wonderful hospital and their staff, but this time for a neighbour of mine who was transferred from Ayr after suffering a heart attack. Four Stents into the heart quick sharpish, and you were all waiting for him and his partner. Thanks for being one of the best hospitals I've come across on the planet, and he's so thankful for the awesome care he received. Now back to mine.
Wonderful hospital and staff.
The treatment I received here was first class, only I didn't have to pay the massive amounts I've had to overseas.
You took me in not knowing a thing about me.
Being treated with kindness, respect, and seeing the compassion you all showed your patients restored my faith in coming home after such a long time away.
Stellar work guys.

I was in the minor injuries unit yesterday afternoon as I fell in the morning and hurt my foot.Turns out I have a bad fracture in my foot and so everrything was clearly explained to me to put me at ease and I
was fitted with a moon boot. I have nothing but tremendous praise for all the staff in the unit, especially for Sylvia who supported and advised me with the greatest gentleness ,expertise and sense of humour. The x ray team also were wonderful. Can't thank you all enough . You are a total credit to your profession.I felt 100% safe throughout my investigations and treatment..thank you again ..sooo much

I recently had 3 visits to Hairmyres Hospital and was very impressed with the care and attention I received. I was in Ward 3 and the staff were wonderful - the day nurses and night nurses not only cared well for me but also cared about me. I was in a side ward so my only communication was with the staff. The cleaner lady made me laugh everyday with her words of wisdom and Mark, who did breakfast and lunches, always cheered me up. Everyone made me feel as if I was being given special treatment. Thank you Ward 3.

I don't usually leave reviews but this time I will, every single nurse in ward 11 was amazing with me. Tom, the nurse in charge is an absolute gentleman, I can't praise him enough. For a guy that has one of the busiest wards to run, he still knuckles down and does the jobs that not many of the other charge nurses on other wards will do. Even taking the time to stop and talk to you about how your life is going. I worked in Hairmyres a number of years ago and he hasn't changed one bit. All the other nurses were patient, kind and helpful... even though I hope it's a long time, I won't ever worry about having to go back into that ward again.
If you read this, staff of ward 11, Thank you.

I have just been discharged from Wd 5 after spending a weekend there, following surgery for a fracture.
Ward 5 is a busy Orthopaedic trauma receiving ward..
All staff, day and night, are caring, professional and efficient, from the cleaning staff to the young female Orthopaedic Surgeon.
The ward staff through their good care creates a healing environment both physically and emotionally and I cannot praise them all highly enough.
Please keep up the good work and a big
Thank you. from Margaret x

The hospital is doing it's best under extraordinary circumstances.

Excellent treatment - dedicated and charming staff.
I was operated on by Mr Jabulile Mthethwa and his excellent team, having a bone graft from my hip to a non union fracture of my humerus. I was then looked after by the staff of Ward 1 from 31/5/19 to 02/06/19. I cannot speak highly enough of all the professionals of that ward, from the cleaning and food providers to every nurse who attended my needs. They were attentive, caring, efficient and encouraging. My profound thanks to you all.

Just been for a MRI scan as I’m very claustrophobic I was very anxious, but staff was brilliant took plenty time and listened to me , talked me through everything and relaxed me , can’t thank them enough for helping me.
Many thanks

My husband was admitted suffering from pneumonia and pericarditis. The treatment he was given was great, each and every member of staff was amazing during this terrible time with Covid19. We can't praise everyone enough. He was in ward 3, 10 and then 9..Thank you NHS x

My Mum was in Hospital here and they treated her very well. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. Sadly I lost my Mum after a hard fight with Cancer. The Hospital is much better since it was rebuilt. It has private rooms for accute wards and relative's
Are allowed to stay when needed. It has a cafe and coffee house for visitors. It also has a shop with healthy options! The parking is free but it is sometimes difficult to get a space depending on the time of day!
L. M.
The staff on Ward 7 at Hairmyres were wonderful to both our mother and us as a family during her recent time with them. All staff treated her with dignity and the support they gave us during the few days she spent with them before passing away was exemplary.
Thank you

Just home after a week of fantastic care in Ward 4 , The staff work really really hard with never a complaint heard, and I have never seen such good team work. They genuinely can't do enough to help the patients, sometimes in difficult and thankless situations - they all keep smiling through. The ISS housekeeping team do a great job of keeping the ward spotless, and the food service is cheerfully delivered and was always perfectly acceptable for me. The overall care from Consultants/Surgeons/Specialists is fantastic and the hospital facilities are absolutely amazing. If you fall ill - you won't do better than to get yourself admitted to Hairmyres Hospital!

I was admitted to ward 5 with an infected wound on my leg, after a fall downstairs, the nurses, doctors and domestic staff were extremely good and helpful, kept me laughing even when in a lot of pain and not a lot of sleep. The staff did not have an easy time of it running around like headless chickens at times but they kept their patience and cheerfulness. I would like to thank them all for making my time so much easier and calming my fears, I have type 1 diabetes so any injury on my legs and feet can become serious. Restored my faith in people, thank you
M. H.
I can't give five stars as a couple of members of staff should not be working on ward 10, they are rude and irritating. The food however is nasty. Not a good selection, and the menu never changes. The best thing to do is get family members to bring food to you if they can. Other than that stick to sandwiches, even though they are not the best.

A&E and Ward 10.
Can’t believe some of the reviews on here. Hairmyers Hospital and the NHS are brilliant. Where else in the world can you walk in off the street and be treated for any medical condition within a few hours. You can’t unless you are rich. I spent a few days in Ward 10 after admission from A&E. A&E waiting is a bit grim but it takes a fair bit of abuse from 24 hour usage so under the circumstances it’s OK. Everyone I came accross from the reception and ancillary staff to the nurses and doctors were excellent. Thank you. I’d send in some chocolates but one of the nursing staff let slip that you have drawers full of sweeties and biscuits and don’t need anymore. And the NHS is always telling everyone else off for eating rubbish. But you have my thanks and once again we’ll done.

I was blown away by the kindness of the staff here, extremely clean hospital too.

I had an appointment with Mr Nandwani's, Rheumatology today and the consultation I received from the doctor was thorough, excellent and felt he had the patience and had time to speak with me and did not feel that the consultation was rushed. I was then sent to get blood and x-rays taken and every-time I sat down to wait, i was called for after 1 minute. The experience throughout was excellent and I would like to thank you all for the wonderful service. Top marks!
H. C.
I had my knee operated on at the day surgery there, and the care was 1st class. The hospital was clean, the staff were so friendly and the operation went very well. My surgeon was Doctor Alberto Gregory who was absolutely brilliant and my knee is on the road to normal function. Also a special mention to one of the nurses - a Susan Shand who's care and friendly attitude towards myself and other patients was amazing. Thank you to all. Matthew Munday.

Had an angiogram 2 months ago. Pain free procedure. Staff were fab! Explained everything, were very friendly and good humoured throughout. Going back in to have a stent installed in a few days. Previous experience leaves me quietly confident and relaxed about the procedure.

I had an accident yesterday and was taken to Hairmyres by very professional and caring ambulance staff.
This excellent care continued in the hospital and I wish to thank all staff from the porters to the technicians, auxiliaries;nurses and doctors.
Thank you so much.

In for an endoscopy yesterday. Absolutely horrible experience but the staff made it easier, very calming and as always a genuine care was given. Place was spotless and plenty of (free) parking at the hospital.
T. N. G.
Very hard working nursing staff. I Was transferred from triage, up to ward 4. Cory, Ellie, and Doris the phlebotomist and Dominic the hospital porter were brilliant. Thanks.
L. S.
The treatment received on Ward 4 from Ellie the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and the doctor was excellent. Not forgetting the wonderful porter who cheered up our day! Thanks to a fantastic team!!
W. F.
I cannot thank the whole staff from the paramedics to the a & e on admission, to the staff of icu for taking the utmost care & showing my bestie Alan Cunningham the utmost respect and dignity he so deserves in his ultimate time of need . You guys , one & all are legends, & I mean that from the bottom my heart
T. M.
I have been reading many reviews here and it seems that people are complaining about petty things when in fact the level of care if you have a severe or life threatening condition is as good as you will get. We can all hope for 5🌟but it's just not going to happen guys . Start by paying much more into this wonderful system if you want the trimmings. They just saved my life and I am back home....the rest is unimportant unless you are a whinger. Hairmyres Respect.....🦄
