I gave birth to my daughter in the Gloucester midwifery unit on the 15th of January 2021. I had a wonderful birth experience, and it is all thanks to the fabulous midwives. I arrived after being advised to attend due to my waters breaking during the day. I was very quickly assessed and was given the option of either staying or going home (was 3 cm dilated). I asked to stay for an hour and to be assessed again, as I didn't want to make any unnecessary trips in the car. They offered me to have a bath to help me relax, and helped me with my breathing techniques. 45 min later I was fully dilated! I was offered the birth pool, but I opted to have the stool instead. I was given gas and air, and successfully birthed my daughter into this world after pushing for 2 hours. The lights were dim, only two midwives assisting, it was perfect. Afterwards my husband and I had tea and toast and had a wonderful "golden hour" together. I stayed overnight while my husband returned home so we could catch up on some rest. The next morning my baby was checked over and we were able to leave together as a family. The unit is immaculately clean, the staff are professional, caring and knowledgeable. Excellent standards of care. All of which contributed to me having a positive birth experience.

My wife recently gave birth at Gloucester and due to a complication had to have an emergency c section. Everyone, from our midwife in the birth unit, the surgery and anesthesiology (if that is how that is spelled) team and all of the midwives on the maternity ward, made the whole process as pleasant and stress free an experience as possible. I wish to offer my family's sincere thanks for bringing our daughter into the world.

Had my little boy here by ceserean section, the staff were lovely reassuring, calming and would go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable and at ease. All PPE was worn and cleanliness was to a high standard in theatre.
