Reviews of Glenfield Hospital

Staff were so lovely, I was at CDU initially and was seen quite quickly, nurses who did my tests and asked questions were respectful and lovely! Then was moved to same day emergency care with Mandy who was lovely and accommodating while I waited. Rachel who took care of me well, big respect to the staff here doing their best to make us feel comfortable. Thank you so much!
R. M.
I've had a bone scan today. I cant remember the lady's name who injected me with the radio active liquid but she was lovely and did a great job and Becky looked after me in the scanner was so professional and kind.
Thank you both
W. M.
They saved my life.
Unbeknown to me I was having a heart attack. The ambulance service worked quickly and efficiently to diagnose my condition and communicate it to the hospital. They took me there where the staff were awaiting my arrival. The procedure was done and I was back in a ward before my wife, who left just after the ambulance, arrived to see me.
Efficient doesn't begin to describe them.
Many thanks.

Masks and cleaning station easily accessible, friendly reception team. Only criticism is being unable to walk far there does not appear to be any help getting around the hospital as a visitor. I felt uncomfortable asking for help.
D. B.
Very helpful staff. Would be useful if the parking machine's accepted debit/credit cards. Had a long walk into hospital foyer to change machine & back to car park, then back to hospital again.

From all my negative experiences over the past decade+ in the mental health system I've seen a few wards in different hospitals. But here was different...
The mental health unit, Specifically Watermead ward and the nursing teams here are phenomenal, and I fully believe helped to save my life. I'm eternally grateful to them all.
Special thanks to Amanda, Kieran & Mark. They were my guiding lights through the whole ordeal. I felt truly safe in their hands

5 star hospital, staff go above and beyond for every patient. ECMO team second to none, eternally grateful for the care they gave my husband and the compassion they showed my family.

I went to Glenfield Hospital for a preadmission assessment prior to having minor surgery as a day case at the LRI. I parked easily, there were plenty of spaces at 9am though I can imagine it might get very busy at times.
I was seen on time and the assessment was thorough. I was given plenty of opportunities and time to ask any questions I had.
I was very happy with my whole experience at this hospital.

The staff here were amazing. Specially in the ICU. They really were kind and helpful to me in my recovery. I should of stayed here really. I would wish I've listened to my sister to stay here.
Only knocked off one star just because one of the doctors sent me back to the awful Birmingham City hospital. Where I came from originally when my covid got worse. Only went there in first place because Heartlands and Queen Anne was full. That hospital didn't have equipment to save my life. One the worst hospitals I've ever been in West Midlands. Not where I wanted to go back to. Wanted to go back Heartlands or Queen Anne's hospital when going back to Birmingham.
Other than that, this was one the best hospitals I've been too. Food was great too and very peaceful.
Special thanks to physicals therapists there. They were so brilliant to me.

Really good hospital, that looks after its patients well which is what you want. Carers can get a coffee while waiting. It is always clean or is being cleaned. There is usually fruit and veg stall outside the main entrance, which looks fresh and not very priced. Buses seem to run regularly with the bus dropping you off at the main entrance. Car park is just across the road from the hospital.

I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in the 1st lockdown so had to attend all the appointments on my own. This was extremely daunting but the staff were absolutely brilliant. From reception to the cleaners, all were very friendly and put me at ease. I'm now cancer free. 😁

All staff that spoke to and had assistance from are very polite and helpful. Ward staff are typically NHS.....Superb! Food is lovely. It's just a shame I am in here for medical reasons. Please always value our NHS staff and the Angles that work within it.
L. W.
Staff very friendly, went for a scan and was seen before my appointment time! Would now prefer attending this hospital over others local.
M. M.
Very nice hospital friendly staff
Thankyou for the help and care of my husband Paul 5 star

I unfortunately had to pay a visit and these wonderfull people saved my life I had the full works on my heart that was three years ago I cant thank you enough for your care and expertise and the friendship of all the amazing staff god bless you all from myself and my family and of course all the care I received at KGH just marvellous .
S. E.
I had an MRI scan on 25th August and because of health problems find it almost impossible to lie on my back. I was treated so kindly, the radiologists did everything they could to get me comfortable without the slightest hint of impatience. I have had 3 MRI scans in 3 different hospitals and this latest one was by far and away the best experience of the three, so thank you very much for your care and consideration.
M. M.
This hospital is the best, the minute you take a patient here , you are sure that everything will be fine, has the best staff, so friendly, calm and able to assist you for any questions one has. The best hospital in the whole of UK. The nurses are so kind and within minutes xrays and other tests are conducted. If admitted one is given a bed within afew hrs time. Not like other hospitals you wqit for more thwn 8hrs to get a bed. Glenfield is very very professional, clean. I could give 10 stars to them if possible.
G. T.
Have been coming here since birth (30 odd years) - always pleased with treatments, communication, cleanliness and being treated as a person, not just an NHS number. Friendly staff! Great aftercare and phone access when sick.
G. S.
Mother had procedure done by Viktor Zlocha very impressed with Mr Zlocha and his team plus ward 31. All a credit to the NHS and this fine Leicester Specialist Hospital that we should all be grateful is in the county.

Glenfield Hospital is the most incredible medical facility I have ever been to. The staff is amazing and concerned for all who enter it's doors. Saving lives and those lives live to tell their story to the world! They saved my husband here. I could not be more grateful!
S. B.
On May 15, 2020, I underwent mitral valve repair (open heart surgery) at Glenfield - a complete triumph thanks to the genius of Mr Zlocha and his team. In the ICU I was truly blessed to be cared for by two amazing nurses, Gemma and Claire, neither of whom I will ever forget. I find it astonishing to think that they must do this sort of thing every day. I wish I could somehow find them to thank them properly.

I work here sometimes...very relaxed hospital with great staff
R. H.
Always a delight to visit here, all staff are friendly and helpful. They do their utmost to make your stay as easy as possible.

Was in ward 19 over night. Not used to going into hospital especially with present virus problems. Found all staff from Doctors to Domestic staff absolutely wonderful. The nursing staff were so attentive. Many thanks to Nurse Wendy.
H. D.
Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff in clinic D, x-ray and MRI departments. Based on this I could imagine that the rest of the hospital staff is equally dedicated and caring.
D.
Went for breast screening, 2 minutes wait. Less than 10 minutes appointment. Extremely efficient and caring. A very good hospital.
H. L. (.
Great hospital with very friendly and helpful staff. The nurses and doctors are excellent. The hospital is clean and tidy. I have used the Xray department and was seen to very quickly. I have also used the Physiotherapy department and they have been great and have helped me tremendously. You hope you never have to use the services but it's good to know if you do I have found the hospital to be excellent.
K. A.
My boyfriend was referred for an xray here and we went straight to the hospital from the doctors surgery. At midday on a Thursday in the summer holidays without an exact time for an appointment, we expected to be there a good few hours, this wasn't the case at all. The staff were amazing and we were in and out in 20 minutes. Amazing staff and amazing service. Thank you
L. E.
The amazing staff on Ward 17 brought my Grandad from critical to stable within two weeks of being told he more than likely was not gonna make it at all. My Mum rang the ward 2-3 times a day to get an update and staff always responded and shown so much care and consideration for all of their patients. I have never had a more positive experience at any other hospital in Leicester and cannot thank the incredible staff there enough. You all deserve an award!

Excellent Service
Yesterday my disabled wife attended the Breast Clinic for a breast screening The staff were brilliant. They were so kind and professional. My wife is very anxious at the best of times they reassured her at every stage of the process. Thank you to the three members of staff that looked after her.
N. P.
Very good Team, has been discharged after 4 months, know I'm feeling good...

Spent most Saturday and Sunday in Adult CDU. What amazing, kind, thorough, patient delightful staff from the most junior to the most senior. It requires an infinite amount of patience to be there but you need to tell yourself it’s because they are being very careful, very thorough and very caring. OK some of the coordination and communication is a bit lacking and I though the pharmacy were being a nightmare until I realised there were contra indications with my current medication. I feel a little anxious about leaving hospital with a different set of drugs to those given to me in the hospital but I must trust them. Saw a number different doctors .. heart, chest, etc..each one was very kind and explained what was happening and why in detail. The nursing staff were utterly amazing and lovely especially those that smiled! There was an emergency when a man suddenly passed out and the professional and dignified way they treated him was wonderful. Even when an irate, rude woman got impatient and demanded they get her a taxi the staff held their cool and dealt with a very difficult situation with patience when inside they must have been screening....I know I was. Thank you so much...guess I will see you all again soon. ❤️😘

The overall experience in relation to treatment is good at the physio therapy department but no one ever picks up the phone. I've tried for the last 2 days and numerous attempts to get through to rearrange a physio appointment and the phone just rings and rings and rings before going to an answer machine. I've sat there at reception and witnessed the phone ringing with no attempts to answer.
C. J.
I spent a day and half in CDU, never realised how many poorly people there was, the staff in this unit never stop, unbelievable. Moved onto Ward 28, spent a week and a bit on the Ward and again the staff throughout did everything within their remit to make my stay as comfortable as possible, so so caring. Very Special People who work within the NHS..

I was referred by my Doctor the day before to attend the x-ray department at Glenfield Hospital. Was told I could go anytime between the hours of 8am and 430pm Mon - Fri. I arrived at the hospital around 1pm , wasn't sure on how long I was going to be there and as I had driven had to pay to park, popped £2.80 into the meter for up to 2 hours , thought this would be ample.
Entered the main entrance of the hospital and immediately the signage showed the X-RAY Dept to be to the right, followed the signs and I was there in probably 20 seconds. Gave the receptionist my details, she gave me a brown envelope with the waiting area printed on the front, two corridors down, took a seat, a member of the X-RAY dept took my envelope and 2 minutes later appeared from a room asking me to come in, X-rays taken and I was finished all within less than 20 minutes !!
Fantastic, friendly service, thank you NHS for making this a pain free experience. The radiographer said I had come at the best time of day and this is why it was not too busy with patients.
We are always quick to complain so I thought praise where it's due and post a review of the positive experience I encountered .
Thank you.

Excellent staff who collectively make glenfield a brilliant hospital. I took my dad to cdu where he was looked after so well by all staff. They were so efficient at carrying out thorough testing and detecting all of his health problems. He spent 3 days on cdu ward where the care couldn't have been better
The staff are heroes. They work so hard on 12 hour shifts making the lives of their patients and families so much better. They are so friendly and helpful. The hospital is very clean and organized. The food is excellent and healthy . Ward 15 is also excellent and the staff so kind. Glenfield hospital should be rewarded as they have created a hospital and staff that is a shining light for optimizing health and recovery . They should all be given awards . Thankyou so much . Make sure a conservative government never closes it.

Had a 2 week referral appointment at the Breast Care Clinic. It was busy but well organised. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Fortunately for me the results were fine. You can get a complimentary hot drink whilst you wait which is nice.
J. B.
Just spent 7 days on Ward 23, The vascular ward after toe amputation and would like to thank all of the Nursing, Ancillary and Theatre staff for their help advice and way I was treated.

CDU (respiratory) has the best staff ever. They have all taken excellent care of my dad who had a collapsed lung. Couldn't have asked for kinder, more attentive, professional, incredible people caring for him. Best in the world. Thank you so very much.

I've recently had a heart attack and spent almost a week in the ccu, can't fault anything.
The staff were very friendly and professional, everything was explained to me in plain english during my treatment and recovery after an operation. The ward was cleaned everyday with almost precision care to cleanliness and detail. Food was excellent, always hot and fresh.
Pure miracle workers,,, fantastic experience..

My dad was rushed to ward 23 vascular unit, his life was saved by the staff and surgeons. I will be forever thankful to them. On the other hand some of the staff were quite rude and kept moving my dad in different rooms.
S. S.
My Dad H.Ali received care under Dr Richardson at ward 32 for his angioplasty. I have to say every time I have been there its been a very good experience. The staff are very welcoming and very very helpful just as much as Dr Richardson who gave my dad amazing care and attention which helped to ease his nervousness. A very big thank you to this amazing ward who work very hard and always put a smile on your face. THANK YOU. Keep up the good work!

I was treated like a hotel guest and was well looked after. The doctors were are friendly and polite, except for one Greek but I think that's a Mediterranean thing. I was operated on by a Mr Waller, who evidently knows his stuff because I am still alive.
The nursing staff were great. Professional, friendly and for the most part, knew what they were doing.
At one point I woke up to find one nurse, who I seem to recall was called Abbie, decorating my little area because it was my birthday :)
I think it was ward 17B, the lung problems ward.
EDIT: I have now been for a second stay, ten years after my first. Once again the staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. This time, it turns out the tea lady gives you free fruit, biscuits, cakes etc as well. They also have wifi now, if you only want an hour it's very expensive but I think I paid a tenner for a week, which is extremely cheap.

Fantastic hospital and staff , I had an ablation procedure done on the 31st Last month . The communication with the nurses before my procedure was outstanding. I was so anxious about it and they went all out to make it less stressful. On the day of my procedure I was not going to go through with it , however rythem nurse Diane and dawn came and took me by the hand and led me and my family into a room and calmly sat with me. Only Diane had to go because of another patient, so the fabulous dawn stayed with me right up until I was put asleep. She was also there as soon as I woke up and didn't leave my side until her shift ended. Also Ben was outstanding and let me look around for a day before my procedure. I want to say thank you also to the amazing dr Stafford . What a guy and amazing EP he is . I salute you sir you are my hero . All in all what a fantastic hospital with the best care and most kind staff. You all should be so proud of yourselves. I really can't praise the staff anymore, massive thank you to each and every one of you from me and my family. ❤️

I would like to say a very big thank you to Dean - Plaster Room Technician.
After foot fusion surgery I was having real problems and needed help with my new plaster case. I just cannot explain how caring and sympathetic he was. He replaced the Fibreglass case - thank goodness - and fitted another poly/nylon type. His help and consideration has made a huge difference to my well being and I would highly recommend his services. One of the best. Makes such a difference when you feel that someone really cares, understands and can empathy's with you. Nursing and caring at it's very best. My grateful thanks Dean and to Glenfield Hospital too. Just were would we be without you?

Incredible staff. Hugely dedicated. Huge thanks to Mr Nakas and all of his team. Everyone who supported my father through very difficult surgery was amazing. Thank you.

Was admitted to Glenfield back in 1993 with a myxofibrosarcoma (not a nice tumour) but thanks to Prof Gregg and Mr Harper, I am still alive and kicking today.
Thanks to them and their great nursing staff who looked after me for the duration of my 6 week overall stay.
B. E.
I recently received a good experience after being refered to have an xray, my dr sent me down and in an hour of being seen by my doctor & having my xray was 60 minutes which i thought was very efficent.
I then had to go to CDU the staff were very attentative and kept me informed, i felt this service was efficent too. Overall I was very satisfied with the service.

My partner was rushed to this hospital with Swine flu, his treatment was ECMO and the nurses, doctors and all the staff in the AICU were absolutely amazing and very helpful, my partner was treated with the utmost care and dignity throughout his whole stay here. Staff were very informative and told you what they were doing each step of the way, nothing was too much trouble. My partner survived his ordeal through ECMO and my partner and I will truly be forever grateful to all who nursed him back to health. EXCELLENT.

When my daughter was born she had quite a lot wrong with her. She had about 5 operations on her heart and came through every time. At 17 months she suffered a stroke after open heart surgery and we lost her for a time .Now she is a cheeky 13 year old that's down to the care and dedication to all the staff at Glenfield hospital.
S. P.

Ward 20 - All staff including doctors treated me with compassion at all times, they worked extremely well together.
Although I felt extremely poorly they made my stay as comfortable as possible.
A MASSIVE thank you to you all

My daughter got strep A in May last year and got very poorly, she cheated death twice , nearly lost her leg her whole body was shutting down. We was told so many times she wasn't going to make it, they rushed her to glenfield hospital where they thought she might need the ecmo machine , luckily our little girl kept fighting. And with all the help and care from all the staff on PICU they saved our little girls life , they worked so hard and put so much care and effort into helping our daughter. We're so grateful and can never thank them enough! If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have our little girl now , and if we had to travel any further away I don't think she would be here now.
J. T.
Very professional as u wud expect 4 a hospital.

Can’t thank the staff enough on Ward 26,Our Dad was in the ward for a number of weeks and they treated him with lots of respect, love, care and near treated the family any different,we would ring 2/3 times a day after visiting him and we would also be treated with a friendly and caring voice. They showed us that it was just more than just a job and they actually loved caring for the patients.Words can’t explain how we feel about the staff and we would like to thank you from the bottom of hearts 💕

Had an operation for excision of lipoma on 22/09/2014, ward 23A performed by consultant Alex Boddy. What can I say? A very comfortable experience throughout from the moment I checked in. All at reception, ward staff, anaesthetic team, surgery and recovery were professional, friendly, attentive. I have previously had treatment at Spires and have to say Glenfield is a winner in my opinion.
Only one comment (and I have to make it) is that when I was taken to recovery, a certain Dr J.... stopped over for a chat with staff and all he was talking about was food and cakes. Not fair, here I was made to fast for hours without any food or water and here he was talking about food and cakes. When I made a comment he promised to bring me his favourite one but that never arrived. Sorry Dr J....
Seriously Glenfield is a top hospital. *****
G. A.
I have been to this hospital a numberof times for procedures the staff are very pleasant and the wards and treatment I had was was very good they really look after you

Saved my life - literally, between LRI and Glenfield, had an EVAR stent 44.2mm wide at the top x 150mm fitted. 96% chance I would not survive surgery (my brother in 2009 didnt survive this surgery) I did. Cant speak highly enough of the Doctors, Nurses and Staff their skill, care and expertise truly is 5*
k.
The radiology department was very clean indeed, and the cleaner should be recognised for the hard work he or she's put in! The staff are lovely and very friendly to.
S. T.
Great hospital with amazing staff. Everyone is very caring and attentive. Dr Abbas is an excellent physician.
C. H.
Treated with care, respect and dignity (triple heart by-pass)

Would just like to say a huge THANK YOU to Dr Khazeh, my Daddy recently had a procedure called a Pericardiectomy, at first when it was mentioned at Derby (where we live) know one really took the time out to show us X-rays, diagrams & explain much to us so as a family we were quite confused, but then my Dad got referred to Leicester under the care of Dr Khazeh, absolutely brilliant, spent nearly 2 hours with us in the Consultation room & described everything to us bit by bit, the procedure & also how my Dad may look at every stage! Thank you all! Xx

Friendly and informative clinic staff, plenty of parking but remember to bring cash as the machines don’t take cards.

My partner was rushed to glenfield as they thought he needed the echo machine but through the hard work from the staff on AICU he didn't need it they also accommodated me while he was in hospital as we are from Rotherham which was a massive relief as I wouldn't have been able to afford to travel everyday I can't them enough for all their help and my partner is now home but if not for all the staff he wouldn't be ere today so a big thank you to each and everyone of them
