Thanks to every in the Endoscopy Department for looking after me earlier this week! Although I was only with them for a few hours, everything possible was done to make my short stay comfortable … it was also good to see constant cleaning by staff as patients came and went. Finally, a special thanks to the nurse who brought coffee and biscuits after my procedure.

Every experience I've had here has been dealt with both thoroughly and professionally. Every question is answered and respect is given. The hospital is wheelchair accessable and all that anyone wants to do is help. Only downfall is how long the walk is through the corridors, especially when departments have been temporarily moved or you need to use their pharmacy. Otherwise, it's a great hospital.

I've had surgery in there, doctors saved my life. And spent around a month on Ward 27, staff in there is the Best. Nurses are so lovely and helpful. Special thanks to Audrey - if you're reading this Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart, you've been so kind for me, I won't forget you!

All the staff is nice enough, just seems strange to me that due to Coronavirus it is deemed too risky to allow dads in waiting rooms with mothers, or in the room while they have their bloods done. But it's not too dangerous for 5 of us to stand right next to each other, in the hall by the main door. That's just fine

A huge thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff in the Day Case 1 department. They looked after me from start to finish whilst undergoing a endoscopy procedure this week. We had a few laughs on rhe way, and for anyone about to 'join' the endosopy club....you have nothing to worry about. Not as bad as going to the dentist.

My husband and I attended the hospital today for our second vaccination. The experience was seamless from start to finish. The staff were lovely, both the volunteers and medical team. Special mention to Ruth who vaccinated us and was extremely friendly and professional. Well done to all involved.

Wish to commend the Leicester General Hospital Radiology Ultrasound clinic most highly for their service to our profoundly disabled son on 20.08.21 . The adjustments made, the attitude and approach and compassion and care was was absolutely excellent. Radiologist and all members of the team deserve much praise for their skills and patience, in making the experience so positive. Huge applause and respect. So grateful.

All in the Endoscopy department were very comforting from the administrator to the nurses and doctor and his assistant was very comforting and caring and they made me feel like my concerns was important to them.
Thank you very much 👍🏻🤗

Cannot fault the care my dad Colin received in the 25+ years as a renal patient at this hospital. Past and present staff on wards 10 and 17 always went above and beyond in dads care and he held everyone in high regard for the job they do. A special thank-you to all the renal team at the general for treating and caring for dad during his 3 kidney transplants and a special thanks to his last consultant John Black who performed his recent kidney transplant in December 2020. Keep up the amazing work you all do on the renal department.

I had a need to go to LGH today Saturday morning 8th May. I was booked in to the radiology department. The procedure I had was done by 2 members of staff. I cannot praise them highly enough, not only for their professionalism but their amazing respect, tact and consideration for what I consider to be a very delicate and embarrassing job. Thank you for your time kindness and curtisy.

How lucky are we to have such a caring bunch of Nurses and Doctors. I was extremely nervous going for my procedure and although it wasn't pleasant the staff were so attentive and caring. Everyone I saw and heard spoke to the patients with care and time. Thank you. Department of Gynaecology

Attended for acupuncture session, arrived unexpectedly early and was seen within minutes of arriving. Nurses and staff are always helpful, cheery, and love a good natter with their patients.

My dad ( aged 50 ) has recently just had 5 days being admitted, being placed in ward 29, he has never been in hospital before so was so aprehensive and truthfully could not fault anything, all the staff were so attentive and were so caring towards his needs. He has an awful phobia of needles and was really put at ease by all the nursing staff. The doctors made effort to keep him informed and everyone was so kind and made the best of a bad experience. He was told at 11:00am he would be discharged today and was home by 1:00pm. Thank you to Ward 29 and Leicester General Hospital for all your help.

I went in for an op on my shoulder and was in and out the same day.
From the moment i went in, to the moment i left, i was treated great.
I was nervous about having the operation, but i was made to feel at ease all the way through the process. Ward 18 staff from Dr Singh to the porters etc were great.
I had no complaints regarding any stage of my visit. I would highly recommend the general for any kind of treatment.
Understanding and kindness shines through from the team that dealt with me on 27/11/19. A big thankyou goes to everyone who came in contact with me on that day, especially Dr Singh and his team who have hopefully fixed me now.
I wish the whole of Leicester General Hospital a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New year.

Came here for my Covid 19 jab last Saturday. Very surprised at how smooth and effective the process was: less than 30 minutes from entry to leaving, including 15 minutes mandatory wait time after having the jab. Simple, smooth and always well looked after. Made everyone feel at ease and very supportive during these times. Recommended both as a Covid 19 vaccination centre, and as a fantastic hospital.

i was diagnosed with what could have potentially been a very dangerous condition for me and my unborn baby at 34 weeks. the team on PAS could not have been better. all the team were friendly, reassuring and informative. They called me with my blood results every week and reassured me that I could call them at any time. We also had a death in the family 1 week before our child's due date and the team were sensitive and caring to our particular needs.
I was on the antenatal ward (30) I could not have been cared for better. At what was a very distressing time for me, as it was my first child, the staff were reassuring, very informative and did everything they could to make me feel more relaxed and calm (if that is possible whilst in early labour!) The team on the ward even had an emergency delivery which was in full earshot of the rest of the ward, and they were professional and calm and in control of this situation. I also felt I did not loose the standard of care even whilst this was taking place.
when on the delivery suite the midwives were all reassuring, professional, and very informative of what stage of labour I was at. This care continued throughout and into the after care where i was able to feel the team bond between the staff. i was made to feel empowered by giving birth by all the team no matter how much or little input into my labour they had had.
i would not hesitate to birth again at Leicester General Hospital.

Very relaxed perfect for dealing with big medical problems. Ward 31 and 11 all staff fantastic. Doctors and nurses keep you well informed of your condition and treatment. My problem was dealt with very quickly, big shout out to Dr. Davies and his team. Can't thank them enough.
S. M. L.
I love the staff here. They are brilliant. I've received nothing but 5 star treatment from everyone (and I mean that) I've met. From the fabulous volunteer who led me around; to the nurses who made me relax and feel ok; to the surgeons who made me laugh and feel like a person and mended my foot; I cannot praise them highly enough.
Considering what the government is doing to the NHS, and how uncertain the staff must feel, they were magnificent.
We need to look after our NHS, and everyone in it.
T. L.
One Lady Doctor was clever enough to determine calcium deficiency was the problem after I pleaded to her humanity by stating I would be better of dead, she started the correct treatment but was overridden by the senior idiot the next day.
Once the senior idiot is convinced its the gall bladder there is no reasoning with them, you just have to keep finding other avenues to go down, preferably one that does not result in a very traumatic death.

I recently had a full hip replacement operation (20/01/15) at the Leicester General Hospital. My experience was definitely 5* all the way through my 5 day stay. From the moment I entered the Admissions Ward through to Ward 14 and to the operating theatre and back to Ward 14 - I found all the staff were friendly, professional, caring and passionate about their roles. Everyone was cheerful and helpful at all times. The Physiotherapists were excellent and very encouraging. The food was great also! Thank you Leicester General Hospital.
I. V.
I was very well looked after by everyone during my stay, all friendly, caring & compassionate.
My recovery has gone better than expected, so the surgery & physio must be some of the best.
If you want advise about the food, eat Asian. If you are concerned about your visitors having to travel so far, tell them to leave earlier, your care & treatment are the most important thing.
Hope you have as good an experience as I am.
A. B.
Nurses were lovely, helped me deal with the anxiety i had before my procedure and everyone looked after me and made me feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

Like most NHS hospitals it needs a refurb - however staff are amazing - God bless them all

Yesterday 6th July I visited MD ward 1 my appointment was for 3-30pm. (I arrived early AT 2-50pm) after checking within minutes I was taken to my bed and the treating Doctor was there,my treatment was completed soon after and I was free to leave at 3-20pm ten minutes before my appointment time. from start to finish my treatment was excellent by everyone I came into contact with. Many Many thanks to everyone.

as a day patient 0n ward 11 but had to stay over night ,on ward 31 as I live alone, and unfortunately have had numerous hospital stays in different parts of country. I can honestly say that the treatment which I received on both wards was the best I have ever had.
smiley faces from all of the staff.....nurses..doctors.....cleaners and catering.
nothing was to much trouble and both wards were very clean.
going into hospital is never good but all of the staff helped to make it a better experience.
thankyou ward 11 and 31

I have both praise and criticism for the way I was treated at the General.
I could not fault the care that the nurses gave to me and to other more seriously ill patients. Thank you. I am still recovering from my operation, but all seems to be well and I would like to thank the doctors too. The food was pleasant and the wards were clean.
However, I do have a serious concern about admissions procedures. My letter from the hospital said that I would be on an all day list. I was told that I should have no food and water after certain times. I went to bed at about 10.30 pm before my admission and rose at about 6.30 am the next morning. I arrived at the hospital at 7.30 am not having eaten or drunk since about 9.00 pm the previous evening. I did not go into theatre until 3.00 pm. During the seven and a half hour wait I was allowed no food or drink which meant that by the time I was taken into theatre I had been without food or fluid for 18 hours. I was stressed, thirsty, hungry, uncomfortable, headachy and, no doubt, dehydrated. I am not suggesting that protocols for fluid and food before operations should be disregarded, but I do think the timing for admissions needs to be handled with more consideration for patient well being. Most reasonable people accept that emergencies will take priority over routine procedures, but during my chats with fellow patients it appears that waiting times of the kind I endured are common and are not due to emergencies.
It was also upsetting that information about a time (approximate only) for theatre was not offered and when I did ask the nurses for clarification they seemed to be rather embarrassed and uncommunicative.

Just been discharged after day-Care surgery in Ward 23. I can’t speak highly enough about the professionalism, friendliness, helpfulness and medical care from beginning to end. Attending hospital is never a welcome occasion, but I would happily come to LGH if necessary in the future.

Hats off to the medical team both for my wife’s treatment during a difficult birth 8.5 years ago and to my cholecystectomy. I was diagnosed 3 years ago with sideroblastic anaemia (body produces too much iron yet is anaemic). On the urgent list l waited just over 6 months for the operation. The only downside was that l went under surgery 6 hours later which meant a long time without food as l last ate was around 7pm. I was told that l was having open surgery only to wake up and find l had keyhole! Some of the meetings l had before surgery felt were not really necessary.
I had an NHS MOT around my 40th and sadly they did not pick up on the iron overload. It was only because my mum was dying of aggressive gallbladder cancer that l decided to give blood. I got rejected from the blood band and it took several months to be diagnosed. If l hadn’t had that done l may not be here today. I’ve been treated with blood letting and high doses of vitamin B6.
I’ve had many thousands of pounds of treatment from the NHS including scans and consultations. What I’d like to ask is why doesn’t the NHS give thorough blood tests to all young people? In the long run it could save millions of pounds. I expect it’s because of money but with so many weird illnesses about it could also save many lives. My liver has taken the brunt of it so we hope that that will be OK. Once again thank you to the staff and l would be interested to hear what a medic would say re thorough blood tests for all young people.

Had Pvns removal in ankle done here last week and from the very second i arrived to the moment i left all the staff were amazing both in ward 18 and 14. The food menu was massive with a great choice. All the staff were caring and attentive and made a worrying time in my life that bit easier to deal with. I really dont mind paying whatever for the parking however having to pay before hand is stupid as even set appoitment times can overun.

Visited today for my Covid-19 jab. Organisation was very good, staff guided you through the process and were very friendly and helpful. Only downside was the signs being a bit confusing but then I was probably having a man-look!

Just had facial nerve block. Brilliant system at city general. Very quick, no waiting. Staff are amazing. Fantastic hospital and really helpful pain management centre.

I cannot praise too highly of the all Staff, Administration, Doctors, Consultants at Leicester General Hospital.
The kindness, empathy and attention to detail I find is second to none.
I do thank you all for your wonderful service, Roger Street

My experience was a very positive one. I was transferred to Ward 28 (Assessment) from A&E at the LRI, and then almost at once to a bay in Ward 31 as an 'outlier' (as my condition was unrelated to the ward's own specialism). I was made to feel welcome at once and over the next four days received professional, efficient and caring nursing. Doctors from the appropriate team were really good and came across every day, and arranged speedy resolution of my condition (at Glenfield tomorrow - so I'll have done the round trip!). The ward was clean and comfortable with a good day room, where we had buffet-style breakfast and lunch. The food was far better than any I've had in other hospitals. So, well done, and thank you, and I hope that this review may redress the balance from some of the less positive ones on the site.

I cannot praise the nurses and level of care enough that was given to my dad David from 30th of July to day he passed on 4th August. They were so kind, supportive, and also whilst my mum stayed with my dad they supported her to during day. Thank you so much xxx

I have just come out of Leicester General after treatment for a bladder tumour and was very impressed by my treatment, both surgery and nursing. However when it came to leaving it would probably have been easier to escape from Colditz. Why when the nursing is so good and the attention from consultants is brilliant can the discharge procedure be so chaotic? I was told I could leave at 12.45 on Monday and that it would take a few hours to get the procedure in place .I asked for an estimate of time and was told by a ward sister that the discharge letter would be with me by 4.00pm.Why 31/4 hours? I was asked by the sister if I needed medication to take home and by another nurse on a separate occassion. My problem was that I live in North Linolnshire and I had arranged for a friend to fetch me and I needed a rough time to save me having to wait about 7 hours as the trip for him takes about 3 hours so I could ring him in the hope my discharge would coincide with his arrival. I asked every now and then how things were going and was told that a nurse was keeping her eye on it as the original sister had left . At 4pm still no sign of the letter and my friend had arrived in the car park so I asked again and was told that the letter was being dealt with in a way that suggested not to keep bothering staff. At 4.20pm I went back to the ward desk and spoke to a different sister/charge nurse and asked what I had to do to get out. She asked me if I needed medication to take home and I said no I didn't to which she replied that in that case I could leave and that they would send the letter by post and said that this was the normal case. I have to say that she was very apologetic ,particularly when I said that I had been asked at least twice before about medication. Why can't this procedure be put into ward training and standardised or some system be in place to speed things up as it rather spoils what had been a very good experience up until then?

I visited here and all the nurses and doctors was great there was only one nurse that had attitude towards other staff and patients she was a fat black nurse but the rest of them was great thanks to the nurses and the staff if it was not for the NHS where would you be I will tell you haters 6 ft under GROW UP RETARDS

P. S.
I had a liver resection 4 weeks ago at this hospital. My experience was very good, I found that all the nurses, doctors and surgeon were so good kind and helpful, had my operation on the Wednesday morning and was home by Monday afternoon.
J. D.
Had to have a scan and hysteroscopy. The staff were lovely and I didn't have to wait long at all. The hysteroscopy is extremely uncomfortable though be warned. My appointment was on a Friday and its generally quieter on this day. I was dealt with quickly and efficiently.. 😊
S. L.
Unfortunately the toilets were disgusting there was sodden paper on the floor and they stank of stale urine. This was in both toilets as my wife reported a similar experience in the ladies. My medical treatment however was most satisfactory. Please do something about the toilets before disease spreads.
A. H.
Hospital and staff are great, my issue is with the local NHS trust who insist on having a pay and display car park rule in place... how are you supposed to know how long you are going too have to wait for your appointment?? Also, at £1.70 per hour its a blatant rip off...
T. D.
I was directed to the General hospital as an emergency and from the minute I arrived late at night until I left 4 days later, having recovered from jaundice, caused by a gal stone problem, which has now been sorted out by the galbladder being removed at Glenfield hospital. I found the level of attention, professional expertise and service by the nurses, doctors and surgeons to be outstanding and a real credit to their profession and to the NHS in particular. The meal service was excellent with a super choice far exceeding my expectation, all delivered by kind and friendly staff. Please accept my heartfelt thanks.
The same goes to the Glenfield who were extremely quick in getting me back onto my feet, fit and well.
Congratulations to you all!!
R. M.

General hospital, quite large, with limited parking, it's best to arrive early in case you can't find the department your looking for,. I've been here several times as an out patient and have always found the staff very compitant, yet friendly.
N. S.
Albeit the hospital would benefit from a complete upgrade, the parking facilities are excellent (although expensive ). The staff, whether receptionist, cleaners or nurses were all friendly and helpful.
