Reviews of Hammersmith Hospital

I had an amazing experience recently at Hammersmith Hospital. I was in for a total thyroidectomy provided by the brilliant Miss. Aimee Di Marco and her stellar team. I was taken care of by the most lovely nurse in recovery named Emelia, and later looked after on the A8 ward. As an American, this was my first time ever staying overnight in a hospital. I had so many amazing nurses on A8, and all other staff members were equally as professional and hospitable. I was so scared leading up to this experience but thankfully everything went very well!

I go here often to see Dr. Varnava for my heart condition. She is very knowledgeable and has helped a lot with my rare condition.
If unfortunately you have problems this is one of the best hospitals in the world.
Also the hospital is clean and the nurses are super nice. One million stars ⭐️

I want to offer my greatest appreciation to the renal team in the Palm Sassoa ward at Hammersmith Hospital.
Put simply, their professionalism, kindness, and openness towards my procedure and what it would entail is an obvious sign of their care for patients.
Thank you all for being so brilliant.

Generally good, but don't set off seeking patient transport (because their "appoint booker" booked you in impossibility early. You will be pushed uncaringly from pillar to post.Rude guy working on front desk of endoscopy (zero compassion like a self righteous block of wood)

Today I had a MRI SCAN but it didn’t go as expected,I felt sick right after.Despite this bad reaction I want to say that the staff of this hospital was amazing.Ready to calm me down during the whole experience and a big shoutout to the awesome female nurse that held my hand ,she truly made my day, you are an angel.

I took part in a medical experiment here and stayed for few days. I found the doctors very sincere and helpful. Washrooms and corridors were clean.

**COVID BOOSTER VACCINATION LOCATION**
(badly external signposted on site!):
Du Cane Road, main "South Entrance" > walk past shops just inside door > at corridor just after, turn LEFT and walk ~50m along > turn RIGHT (signs viewable ONLY on this inside corridor!).
Mostly empty! Unbooked drop-ins allowed.

I had an appointment today.
Doctors were very polite and loyal, staff were very friendly and offers to me drinks and sandwiches, also they booked a car to take me home, very clean place aswell.
Finally thanks for your support NHS and all staff in this hospital.
Best regards

Had a catheter ablation at the Cardiac unit and was treated with great care. As an NHS patient, I had my own room and was looked after really well by all the staff, from the catering staff, to the nurses, porters and specialist cardiac doctors, anaesthetist and surgeons. Very happy for the treatment and grateful that we have the NHS in this country.

First of all I would like to wish everyone a HÄPPY NËW YËÄR, pray🙏 for good HËÄLTH,WËÄLTH , HÄPPÏNËSS. 😂
I've given five 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟to Hammersmith hospital because when I was admitted in August 2015 to have Neuro surgery which was done by Dr. Kareem. The result was amazing as at point my bodies nerves had all gone, as if I was paralysed & the aftercare I received was really good. I was in hospital for 3months. I give graditude to the doctors, nurses & all the staff that cared for me. I always sent blessing to everyone who helped me back on my feet. It's a life changing experience, I can't thank everyone enough, nice & friendly nurses & staff. 👍👏👏👏🙂💕 It's been five years since my operation this August 2020, I feel lucky to had the operation at the right time & for it to be successful. I think & always thank everyone who helped me to walk & to do simple thinks for myself. SO GRATEFUL.🙏🙏🙏🙂❤❤❤ Hi again🙋♀️ I would like to give GRATITUDE & thanks to Dr kareem, nurses other doctors & everyone who looked after me while i was at the hospital. 🙏🙏❤❤🍀🍀🍀

Parking is bad but they have building 👷♂️ work going on so maybe that does not help also covid restrictions don't help also bad place to travel to if you live out of town.
J. S.
Do they do bone marrow transplants for sickacell people my girlfriend is sick with sickacell and I'm in USA and I can't call the hospital to get answers I need answers if so that be the best news of my life
d. s.
Consistently good experiences here. Friendly and knowledgable staff throughout. The building is maze-like, so allow yourself some extra time when visiting! The Drexciyan subway was a nice surprise.
P. H.
Just had Parathyroid and Thyroid surgery today after extensive professional investigations, tests and 100% care. Amazing team of Endocrinologists and related nurses and doctors. I had a complication which was totally out of the blue (and NOT because of anything they did 😁) and they rushed me there and then to theatre and sorted it. I feel in very safe hands here.
Thank you to all the team on Ward A8.
J.
No complaint for the service. Team is kind and helpful. The building is practically a maze and it may take much more time to find the department you want to attend than you imagine. Arrive well in advance of your appointment.
H.
Thank you Hammersmith Hospital, you gave a new hope! All the staff including cleaners nurses doctors been amazing. Thank you one more time for looking after me. You guys are the real superheroes!
A. H.
It’s ok, the bit I go to is quite modern which is nice as the rest of the hospital is very dated. Staff are helpful and friendly. A lot of the clinics tend to run behind by a lot so always expect a long wait.
Disabled parking is a bit of a joke. There’s never any spaces unless you go at 7am, I normally have to park in wormwood scrubs car park and have to walk which is not fun when you have mobility issues.
V. V.
I want to thank Dr. Christoper Baker team, from Cardiology Ward Day, for the professionalism and good work he did for the health of my husband Dragos Vonica.
F. K. (. M.
Effecient once you get there. No parking - or accurately very difficult. Extortionate if you use the hospital's spaces. Absolutely useless telephone system (staff need training). Located next to a very forbidding looking prison building. Brilliant pharmacy / pharmacy staff. Brilliant doctors, nurses and medical teams (if you're lucky enough to be seen). Administration is second to none when it comes to HOPELESS‼️
Would recommend it over the Royal free and charring cross (both are filthy), but if you can stay out of hospital that would be my real recommendation.
#staysafe #stayhealthy #staysane
A. M.
The endoscopy department in this hospital cannot be faulted. Kindly, professional staff; clean and wholesome environment; constant explanations of what was happening and what was going to happen, and reassuring aftercare by telephone.
K. W.
Fantastic cardiac care, four stents and a new aortic valve fitted, all done whilst conscious. Pre valve procedure, I allowed myself to be examined by medical students, broke the boredom, and they need to learn.
A. T. G.
A very well run Hospital especially in these times. lovely staff and food, clean, tidy and well organised, they literally saved my life. thank you more than words can express. Duncan Canning
S. M.
I spent a month in isolation during my HSCT to get rid of Multiple sclerosis. It worked, and during my stay I saw only the very most profession of service from the Doctors to the cleaning operators.
You will be in safe hands here. Thank you Hammersmith hospital.
M. P.
My clinic was moved here from Charing Cross hospital. First impressions were that Hammersmith Hospital is a lot older building, and it wasn't very clear how to get to Outpatients from the reception entrance.
After some accurate directions from a security man, I found where I needed to be. Check in is by touch screen and gives information on where to sit.
The announcement system to call patients is very good. It combines a voice message, with a large screen display telling you which room to go to.
Seating was comfortable and well laid out.
Appointments were running around 30 minutes late, but at least there are white boards showing the expected delay and these are updated frequently. Much better than any other hospital I've been to.
Waiting time for a blood test was very long. I took number 49 when 25 was shown on the screen. I waited around 40 minutes to be seen.
It is sensible to use that time to book your next appointment. Queueing again was rather long. This time around 15 minutes.
I got the impression that the staff were trying their best to provide a good service. They appeared to be working as quickly as possible, but the computer systems in operation seem to be slow and cumbersome to enter data into.
One fact that wasn't dealt with, was that although there was a water dispenser available, the cups had run out. Next time I'll take a bottle to fill up.
Pay and display parking is available at the front of the hospital, but is fairly expensive. Additionally there is dedicated solo motorcycle parking by the entrance, and also cycle racks. Both are convenient and free to use.
The nearest tube station is East Acton but it's still quite a long walk. White City and Wood Lane are other alternative tube stops.
The best transport is buses. There are plenty of bus services running right outside the hospital. I know of routes 70, 72 and 272, but there are others too. Check on Tfl to find more.

Incredible staff, helped me incredibly.

Amazing hospital.... saved my husband’s life. Performed a very tricky surgery on me with success. People friendly, helpful and so skilled. Just the best!
A. J.
Took my son and the children department were very nice and helpful. Very professional and well mannered staff. Highly recommend this hospital.
S. E. D.
I was admitted at Hammersmith Hospital for an angio and I ended staying there for 7 days.
I had one of the best treatments that you can imagine and was very well taken care of.
I thank the doctors and nurses in the cardiac wards that took care of me.
The food too was good and i did make friends with other sick people like me.
R. C. (. L.
I was there after work for a cut that hurt my nerves. The receptionist was kindly and the doctor really patience and professional.
In3/4h they checked everything and gave me some prescription.
Really thankful for the service. 🙏

Urgent Care Centre was fast and helpful.
I used the Urgent Care Centre after injuring my thumb and was very pleasantly surprised that I was able to be seen, have a X-Ray, Diagnosed and be treated in the space of 1 hour 30 mins.
I would definitely recommend this Hospital if you are in need of an urgent care service.
C. H.
Brilliant. They nursed this old fool back to full health. I owe them my life.
Thank you. Thank you so much.
S. B. P.
My wife has a heart condition, so we've been visiting the Cardiology department for a while now. We have total trust in the doctors, very professional and knowledgeable.
The hospital itself though is quite hard to navigate around.
S. I.
NB the listed 24 HR opening applies to the Walk ln Urgent Care Centre. This is a clinic with GPs that has no longer a waiting time than any other hospital, it just seems a little less unfriendly and if you genuinely have to leave, your GP is informed you attended, alerted to a problem which should accelerate a follow up appointment. We are Autistic and my sons needs have always been always dealt with sensitively, especially when he used to get heavy nose bleeds. There are various cafe bars : Deli Marche, Subway and one good restaurant serving decent meals should you find yourself here for longer than normal visiting times or clinics. Believe it or not l used to come into the restaurant on Sundays with my kids as a treat before Westfield appeared.
S. C.
I have had the best care and treatment imaginable at this hospital. I had been diagnosed as having terminal cancer for 5yrs. After the chemo could no longer be given (as it was killing me faster than the cancer) I was referred to the experimental unit at Hammersmith for drug research. Instead - a brilliant surgeon devised new procedures and performed an incredible operation - which ha sremoved all of the cancer, saved my life...and I am - cured!! Wonderful staff in the ward and groudbreaking doctors surgeons and treatment. I owe them all my life.
A. H.
My heartfelt thanks for the skill and care involved in my operation. My family thought I would not pull through, but I have done, and we are all extremely grateful to all involved. Recovery is taking time -but I at home and at my computer!
PS I don't think "loved it" is right but it does deserve 5 stars.
C. T.
We went for an MRI in block J. Perfect in terms of punctuality. Olufemi( the receptionist was very helpful ) all the staff was great.
N. K.
Great nurses, great doctors. Saved my life
A. A.
Fantastic staff especially nurses, but hospital overworked and understaffed. But not their fault. I wish NHS was getting more funds as promised. Fantastic people work there.
A. L.
I received top quality care from Mr Spalding and his surgical team and afterwards from the nursing staff in ward A8. Although 69 years of age I was out shopping in Sainsbury's and cooking dinner just 13 days after a 6 hour operation to remove a pancreatic/duodenal cancer. I would not have thought that possible.
J. G.
Former Patient at Auchi Dialysis department & now Renal Outpatients. Unbelievable one-to-one care by the nurses & healthcare assistants. A wealth of experience, knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the comprehensive umbrella that is Renal failure and it's after affect and reaction which runs in parallel by the consultants.
All other members of staff which complete Hammersmith Hospital were plesent and always keen to assist in any way they could.
All of the above is undertaken on a relative shoe-string budget which without doubt has a direct affect on these members of staff. The Trust need to focus their attentions on engaging on key members of staff when identifying areas of the business to improve and other areas to reduce funding. I have witnessed many areas which require attention to improve the efficiency of the business and reducing the lost man-hours.
A large push on permanent recruitment needs to be spear-headed from the top of the trust down to the wards and department where they are required the most. This drive would without question, hesitation or restructuring would be an easy route to save money due to reduction on agency workers. The new prospective permanent members of staff would add not just economic value, but more stability and efficiency to the wards and departments which they will be posted at.
Well done to everyone involved.
A. D.
GP service is fantastic. The whole hospital staff are wonderful.
We always feel we are in safe hands.
Thank you all, job well done.
A. J.
Is doctor Lars Nilsson still there?
S. K.
Fantastic hospital. They look after me often here. Still cannot believe that Jeremy Hunt has taken away its A&E. This area needs it as alot of the families living nearby are poor & dont own cars to travel to St. Mary's in Paddington. A stab at social cleansing.
M. F.

(Translated) A very beautiful hospital and the medical staff at the highest level, sophisticated treatment and commitment, but appointments, but it is sometimes possible that my mother delayed the transplant process for treatment of leukemia, thank God until now the operation is successful and their follow-up of the situation is very accurate, but one defect in them is the time of dispensing medicines in the hospital pharmacy, they hold you less She spins the role of 30 minutes and increases the duration according to the crowding, so today I am wetting two hours
