Reviews of National Trust - Tredegar House
K. B. R.
Lovely day out! Cafe is really nice and had several vegan options (had we have known we might not have brought our own lunch!), second hand bookshop is amazing and all the staff/volunteers all over the place are lovely and friendly! We only got to nip into one of the craft shops at the front (the handmade musical instruments) which was a shame but they all looked so interesting, and they have a refill shop which we also didn't get time to do. There's not that many toilets, could do with some nearer the grounds if that was possible, but all the services are the quality you'd expect from the NT! The grounds are beautiful and teeming with birds, flowers and stunning trees. If you walk far enough you can hear the road, which is a shame but also means it's very easy to find the place.
C.
Great place for families, dog walking and just enjoying the green space. Lovely gardens and wood areas, dogs on and off lead spaces. There is a cost for car parking, luckily the machines were down today. Historical house to explore, unfortunately dogs not allowed so couldn't go in. Children's park, nice cafe with outside courtyard seating area. Few shops selling books etc. Toilet facilities were clean and easy to access. Great lake and some huge trees. Lots of people there but due to the size of the park not crowded at all. Lovely few hours visit, will definitely return.
R. B.
First time visit to Tredegar house it is very well laid out and the staff were very well informed and filled in the family history. Access to a window in time as you could see the Morgan family change with the times over the years. It was done in a way you could follow the main characters at famous points in history. The house had a very pleasant homely feel. Following this we had a lovely walk around the lake and woods and a nice coffee and lunch in the cafe.
C. J.
A great place for a walk and a bite to eat. The grounds itself are beautiful and free to visit although there is a charge for parking. The grounds include extensive parkland with a large lake and walks. There is also a nice tearoom with plenty of outdoor seating. The mansion is ticketed and well worth a visit.
D. G.
Beautiful house and grounds! Friendly and knowledgeable staff only too willing to answer questions. Wheelchair access. Large car park and dog friendly grounds. A most amazing stable block as grand as the house! Ideal family day out with extensive grounds and a lake. All areas are wheelchair accessible.

A frosty crisp day with low winter sun showed off this large red brick Restoration house to great effect. The glittering gilt of the entrance gates sparkle attractively in the light.
The main run of state rooms face north. As you would expect they are dark, accentuated by the faux walnut panelling and hung largely with family portraits in oil.
The post pandemic staff shortage meant that the first floor remained closed. Nonetheless I enjoyed the Staff Room and substantial Kitchen.
J. N.
Impressive building; although not able to go in and look around as had my four legged friend with me. So enjoyed exploring the grounds with a lake, large area of grassland and children's play area it is certainly a place to visit with a picnic for the whole family.
J. J.
I'm lucky enough to have Tradegar House on my doorstep in Newport. It is a little haven just off the M4, a place to escape and enjoy a picnic, exercise your dog or just take a walk around the lake and grounds. It also has a caravan park for those travelling from further a field and a play area for children. Admission to the grounds are free, and parking cost is reasonable. Check the website for Tradegar House Admission and what's on through the year.
M. P.
Went on open day.
Beautiful grounds..didn't go in house as v long queues.
Cafe good but v noisy inside.
Pay to park unless NT member.
P. J.
Great House. Lovely grounds and an expansive lake. Very good cafe with hot and cold snacks to take out to eat beneath the shade of countless trees. A pleasurable way to spend a few hours on a summer's day
B. D.
Large vegetable garden. Good walk to the lake but you can't walk round it. Interesting little businesses on site. Lovely house. Nice little grass maze
S. S.
A lovely location with beautiful grounds and a lovely walk around the lake. You can visit the work shops with hand crafted goods for sale. A park for children to enjoy and good food and refreshments catering for vegans and vegetarians too.
C. P.
We took our dog to tredegar house gor walk today. We had lovely time plus took lots of photos and we had a lovely drink and some cake too.
M. S.
Lovely grounds, a nice long and pleasant walk. I decided not to visit the main house as advised by a member of staff only the ground floor is accessible for the next few months. Parking charges reasonable with a week maintained waking area. Highly recommended.
P. B.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area. A very interesting and extensive property which can be limited for viewing. The grounds are reasonable but note:
Newport is busy and has expanded and still expanding engulfing every free space. Even the National trust property is hemmed in with major roads and new builds all around. So much evidence of the sickness to people's minds that this causes is abundant and damming.
L. T.
Such a beautiful place to visit. The National Trust does a stellar job at keeping the grounds and house beautiful. Worth a visit.
m. C.
Great day out, interesting history about the Morgan family, one of whom was involved in the charge of the Light Brigade/ house and grounds
M. M.
Very pleasant couple of hours spent here, beautiful garden too
M. H.
This is somewhere we have been meaning to visit for a while but never quite got round to. On the day we chose we arrived in a torrential downpour so had to sit in the car for a while! There was a huge car park and it seemed that the parkland was free to enter and the house and gardens were National Trust.
We went through the ticket office and had an excellent chat with the guy there before going through to the gardens. These are really impressive, some very formal areas and some less so but certainly a statement, especially with the huge cedar.
The house itself was closed but the stables were quite incredible - superbly ornate and grand in a way that we just don't do any more. We had coffee and cake sat outside the cafe before we headed home. A lovely half day trip.
W. H.
Beautiful historic house and gardens. If you like gardening, history, architecture and/or antiques then Tredegar is a delight. Pity, due to covid, it's rooms are only partially open otherwise would be 5 stars.
A. M.
Excellent, a great day out, the house and gardens were great not fully open yet but still worth a visit
R. J.
A beautiful location. So nice to have it almost right on my doorstep. The grounds are always open to walk around, although the house is obviously more limited hours. I'd recommend it for anyone needing a place to chill out.
D. H.
Wonderful place to visit. Great that they have games for you to play on the lawns.
Also wonderful craft shops in the grounds to add to your hobbies
The tea room was very welcoming as it was a rainy day, the sausage rolls were lush!!!
C. G.
A great place to visit. Everyone is free to walk around the beautiful grounds and it appeared to be a dog walkers paradise. There is even doggy icecream available at the cafe! Plenty of parking. Interesting small shops. And then the house itself, now owned by the National Trust.
L. H.
Beautiful house in a lovely setting. All staff and volunteers were friendly and the guides very knowledgeable. Dogs welcome in all areas except in the house itself. We hope to visit again with more time to explore the walks.
J. O.
Love this place. I'm a regular visitor for walks and picnics in the grounds. My husband went to school there.
The little workshops are great and yhey often have food and craft markets in the car park.
Only downside - the only toilets are all the way back in the carpark.
T. B.
Wonderful house that's really worth the visit
H. P.
Friendly staff wonderful dog walks and the house a treat. The book shop ladies were happy and helpful, thank you. We eat in the cafe where dogs were welcomed.
A. J.
Visited yesterday with lockdown measures in place so only had access to the parkland, woodland and lake. Still had an excellent day out! Easy to find, clean toilets, and beautiful grounds perfect for a picnic. Other than one gap in the foliage where you can see the motorway, reality is hidden behind magnificent trees and idyllic landscapes so you feel like you're worlds away.
S. A.
Very interesting house, friendly staff, easy parking and a lovely cafe! Dog friendly too with a lake to walk around. A little disappointed that there is no National Trust shop here but other than that a really great day out.
N. B.
Wow... What a great day out. The size of this house and gardens is massive. You walk through the gardens first, along the side of the Orangery, onto the courtyard... (make sure you have flat shoes on as it is cobbled). Looking right is the Great House. Great history about this house. If you like your wood work/wood carvings, this is the place for you. This place is great for dogs, but watch out for the swans around the lake. Fact: The National Trust only rent this place off the local council, who wanted to knock it down and build on it, but lost by 1 vote, so now rent it out. Have fun & enjoy.
J. V.
Always a lovely place to visit. Beautiful gardens and lots of space. The lake is a delight at any time of year, with a lovely and easy walk all around it. The cafe is good and I can highly recommend the ice cream from the kiosk in the park! The house itself is worth a visit as well. Even when there are lots of people there it doesn't feel crowded. There is a childrens playground too. Highly recommended.
R. S.
Nice surroundings and a lovely place for a walk and picnic. Didn't go inside the house so cannot comment.
Only one cafe which gets super busy. Given the amount of people that come they could and should open another one up.
J. H.
Fabulous NT property where dogs are welcomed and can have some off lead time too which is really refreshing! The gardens and grounds are lovely and there are lawn games for families which is great. We loved our entire visit and would definitely go back again.
J. B.
A great place for a walk, suitable for dogs (unless prone to chase ducks) there are at least 2 ponds that are beautiful to walk around. There is a childs play area and the fields also provide a large area to play. The house its self is national trust and to getbin the inner gardens there is a fee ( I didn't visit this time around). There are toilets and parking is ample (there is a fee for parking and the use of a smart phone is required for payment.) There is a coffee shop that is currently providing take out drinks and food. There are a small number of independent stores selling goods aswell. Always a good day out and definitely worth a visit.
N. W.
Nice place, cafe abit disorganised apart from 1 lovely lady. Grounds very nice, the actual house, is nice to look at on the tour. Fun playing croquet on the lawns
M. G.
Great place to spend a day. The park next to Tredegar is lovely, but I think it's council owned, not National Trust (just in case you wondered!). The house stewards were welcoming and informative. We particularly enjoyed the hands-on shadow puppet theatre. There were some unusual, landscaped gardens just before the house (see pictures) which were lovely in a very different way: not wildly colourful, but very peaceful and carefully tended.
D. M.
Fantastic place, great for dog walks, ive joined a French bulldog site, which organise a meet there, also great for Children and disabled people as paths well maintained
J. B.
First visit and I loved it. Huge open space with wooded walks around lake, childrens play area, large cafe, shop, and park is free for everyone to enjoy. Kiosk and toilets also in park area. Entrance into house chargeable. Car park only £2 for 4 hrs or £5 over 4 hrs.
S. W. (.
Tredegar House is an absolutely wonderful location and one of the most attractive places in Newport. The land is really well looked after and maintained with various different amenities and facilities to accommodate their customers such as a playground, kiosk and toilets. Walking around the house is lovely and is highly recommended.
P. W.
Given the distance of the perimeter foot paths I find it surprising there are no seating arrangements for older and disabled visitors to rest on.
T. P.
Absolutely loved it, brilliant what the national trust have done with Tredegar House. All staff were very interactive with Mr Scrooge being the star of the show!!!
W. L.
Lovely relaxed stroll round the gardens very relaxed. Shame we could not go into the house. Walked around the lake
g. s.
Live locally and have never been inside the house rather amazed at some of the rooms on display and manned by volunteers, really hits home some of the things we take for granted, plumbed water, central heating, electric lighting etc. Would recommend reading up a bit on the Morgan's before visiting. Well recommended.
T. S.
A wonderful property, large grounds to walk, picnic or just admire. It's one of the few national trust properties which have opened the house.
Food in the cafe was very good.
A. D.
Easily accessible, delightful house and lovely grounds to walk around. Staff and guides were outstandingly helpful. A thoroughly enjoyable day out.
S. M.
Beautiful place xx lovely people, great second hand book store. Dog loves it here
j. n.
Great national trust Big House & gardens with boating pond. Regular exhibitions in the house (recent Chartist one about 1839 Newport Uprising was well curated). Friendly staff & good cafe.
S. L.
What an enjoyable day. The guides were very helpful & friendly. They talked with enthusiasm about the house & were very knowledgeable. Thank you. The house was beautifully kept & it was lovely to hear about all the history of the Morgan family. We had a leisurely walk round the gardens & lake, everything was well tended. We would certainly recommend a visit. (suitable for all the family)
E. H.
Didn't go on the building but the grounds are beautiful great afternoon for family’s
U. A.
Pictures speak for them selves lots of volunteers telling history and stories lots of grand rooms but filled with minimal detail compared to its original girl school days
Lots of warm rooms golden gate top notch grand house
M. M.
1st time here, very nice, good for families, gardens were ammaculate.
J. M.
Very good as always very busy as it was nice and sunny. So a great place to go for a walk and enjoy the park and woodland.
D. P.
Lovely house. Fantastic gardens. Great parkland and lake. Helpful friendly staff and volunteers.
L. P.
Friendly service nice place to visit. Tour was good
j. a.
Like the house, glad we are members and didn't have to pay because all of the upstairs was closed due to volunteer shortages
D. S.
Interesting history about Evan. But an odd site with other commercial units. Not worth a long drive to get to see this place. But if in the area then worth a visit. Staff were quite friendly, some were very knowledgeable too and it's thanks to their hard work that makes visiting places like this special.
N. 9.
Excellent National Trust property ... Well worth a visit ... The staff and Volunteers were very attentive and helpful ... Interesting Trees ... Great Cream tea was had too !
E. B.
Such a fantastic place to visit for the whole family. We spent the whole day exploring and will be revisiting. With lots of open space, lake walk, horse and gardens there is lots to see and do.
My only complaint would be the cost of drinks and ice creams. But I appreciate that they need to make money.
K. H.
Always a great place to go on a sunny day. With plenty of parkland it's a safe place to take children or walk dogs. The house is full of history. A great day out.
T. E. G.
Had a lovely day wandering around this lovely house with a long history, the tea room is nice and the volunteers are very informative and genuinely happy to see you and talk to you, the Lake walk was stunning, all in all a very worthwhile visit and there are lots of improvements and alterations happening so it will only get better as time goes on. Another five stars to the national trust x
S. M.
Visited previously pre covid.Enjoyed our visit then.Returned this year, only to be disappointed..Fewer volunteers therefore access to some areas limited.Diid not help that main toilet block having repairs,so unavailable(luckily not many visitors).Cafe still OK. Not much else available.
J. S.
We went in early August and was surprised how busy it was. Terrible road signs to it so I figured it'd be quiet, wrong. We used the cafe and sat outside with our table number. After 20 minutes my panini arrived but it was a Tuna & Cheese melt when I'd ordered Ham. I told the young waitress who apologised and took it away also with our table number. After a future 20 minutes I went and ask if the panini would be much longer. They said 10 more minutes, the young waitress brought me another tuna & cheese melt. I sent it back. After another wait I again inquired and they had no knowledge of my order, this time I waited and finally got my ham & cheese melt.
H. H.
Didn't visit the house but the gardens and grounds are great for a walk and there's a lovely cafe there too. Parking is reasonable
P. W.
What a fascinating house with so much history, as well as beautiful gardens. Such a friendly place with great guides.
E. C.
Always enjoy a walk around the park. Saturday's Market was good. It was a nice say as well warm and sunny.
l.
This place is well worth a visit. It's not long been taken over by the national trust, and they're working to restore the rooms. So each time you go, something new will be open!
S. H.
As a volunteer at this national trust property, what can I say about this beautiful mansion house on the outskirts of Newport in south Wales, except come and see it all for yourselves!!! There is lots to see and do all year round and we still have our "riches and rebellion" exhibition on, until April, commemorating the christist uprising of 1839.
B. J.
Checkout Tredegar House Park so much history a great walk for family a little pond area and so peaceful been going ever since I was a child and now bring my little boy for quiet stroll in the park great place
P. C.
Free to visit the gardens. Parking is pay but only £1 for an hour. Lovely walk/run possible around the lake
Easy to reach from the Holiday Inn Express.
D. M.
Been twice in the last few weeks., love it there.. took a packed lunch and used our national trust cards.. makes your days out free 😁
E. R. A.
Lovely welcoming park, garden, house and facilities stopover en route. Always good when the toilets are right by the car park 🤣
S. S.
Fantastic place to visit, lovely local craft shops, tea room serving freshly made sandwiches, homemade soup, cakes etc. The house it's self is absolutely stunning inside, well worth a visit....
C. D.
I have always enjoyed coming here. Parks, ponds, wildlife, flora and fauna are just beautiful. Tea room is okay if a little over priced. They very often have different events/shows. House is well worth a visit.
A. B.
Lovely walks and house. Great cafe. Worth a visit. Second hand book shop
N. F. P.
Well worth a visit. There is so much to do at Tredegar House and grounds. Take an interesting guided tour of the house, or pop into the cafe for some refreshment, look through the small traditional businesses units and craft stalls, or walk around the lake, then take a picnic in the grounds ☺
R. S.
Pleasant walk around grounds friendly guides, very good cafe.
P. C.
A bit bare. Not enough to see of the house on designated route.
Cafe looks nice and clean but the table was sticky to touch. Desperately needs a good deep cleaning.
I. O.
The Tredegar House was nicely decorated for Christmas with attention to detail. Thank you to the staff for great effort.
R. N.
We stopped in on the way to Pembrokeshire. Great little cafe but didn't spent time in the house or grounds. Certainly will be visiting again though!
S. G.
Beautiful grounds, amazing views around the lake. Easy walking ideal for dogs and children, really clean.
G. R.
Lovely well kept site. Very clean.
Slight road noise. Hardly spot for visiting heritage spots.
B. B.
Beautiful park, lake, gardens and house. A wonderful way to spend a few hours. Access to the park is free although there is a small charge to park.
G. H.
Lovely place. Good to get in the house even if only downstairs. Great walks.
C. A. W.
Lovely visit today grounds well maintained. House was open to visitors and you were free to wander with an array of volunteers with lots of information about the house. Very interesting and learnt alot.
Only disappointment no national trust shop to support at yhe end of our visit.
P. M.
Beautiful day out. Volunteers in the house were great. The lake walk was a bit muddy though.
T. E.
Lots of history, beautiful grounds and house full of history so much learnt
Highly recommend
A.
Beautuful parkland and gardens. House ok if you are intwrested in social history. Cafe not the best. Pebbles to entrance not wheelchair friendly. Cheese scones(my mainstay NT lunch) pretty solid! Staff lovely considering the pressure
A. G.
Excellent place to visit. Highly recommended.
S. A.
I'm have National Trust membership, so another NT ticked off he huge list I have.... there is a large carpark. Dogs welcome, though not in house. Plenty of park and lakes for walkies....Tredegar House and Gardens really interesting....its £11 for entry into House....no shop.....closed because of Covid and never reopened. Shame cause I really wanted a magnet...
D. L.
Nice house but garden not very exciting. Garden was small compared to many Nat Trust houses we have visited before. House was interesting and had many volunteers around to tell you all about it. The large park and lake behind the house (that anyone can walk round) was much more interesting and better to walk round than the Garden.
J. S.
How great to arrive on Pirate Day. Had lunch in the eatery which was delicious. The house was fascinating and the guides were knowledgeable and friendly.
m. r.
£11 per adult for entry.
Good welcome by the staff. Walking round the house and grounds was pleasant. Some of the staff in the house were happy to talk but didn't volunteer information about the history of the house. All of the staff were masked and followed social distancing.
The cafe was very full with tables not spread far enough apart. There were four members of staff in front of house either serving food, taking orders or cleaning tables. None of them were masked. And passed from behind the counter to the seating area freely. Most of the customers were masked but this seemed pointless if those handling food and cleaning weren't doing the same.
The food on the chalkboards weren't up to date with what was available. I.e. Leek and potato soup on the board. Red pepper soup on today. Food was good quality though.
Customers in the long queue felt a need to stand as close to the person in front of them as possible.
T. P.
Superb house, gratefully saved by the local council and leased to the National Trust to bring it back to life.
P. P.
Enjoyed my visit here, gardens even in winter was pleasantly kept. The house was nice but understood it's normal for one floor to be closed, our visit missed the bedrooms. They did a evening ghost walk which sounded interesting if booked
R. R.
Lovely grounds ideal for all the family including the dog.
E. H.
Amazing house and gardens, lovely walk around the lake as well. No current access to the house, but I have been before and it is a stunning historical site, which also has fun activities for young and slightly older children. The Easter egg hunt festivities are also very popular with children! I would definitely recommend coming for a nice walk around the gardens and outside area, and the cafe and shops (the latter of which are currently closed) are lovely to wander around and get some cake and coffee.
A. G.
Difficult to locate off the M4, however when there Tredeger House is excellent. The short talk by a volunteer (Stuart) was very informative and humorous. We didn't have time to sample the cafe and the 2nd hand bookshop could not be found. Overall a very good experience.
P. T.
Great place, steeping in history, sympathetically maintained. Love the general unhurried, peaceful nature of the place.
Staff were friendly, polite and informative. The whole place was kept clean.
Best of all, Vegan Magnums in the cafe! Score!
Nice walk around the lake after the gardens and a relaxing lunch in the outdoor seating courtyard.
A. G.
Loved it, Tredegar House is steeped in History, amazing we'll informed volunteers. The grounds are child friendly and there are stunning walks.
C. P.
Very nice house. Had a relaxed walk around. The stuff was very friendly. We enjoyed the day here.
L. D.
Great place to explore and the kids to play in play area. The toilets by play area could do with improvements as the toilet I used wasn't flushing well and the sinks were stained brown. The other toilets at car park were great though. Good to see more bins and dog waste bins on site too
C. K.
Brilliant place. Very dog friendly. Lots of lovely walks and a lake with swans and ducks etc..
j. c.
Lovely grounds good for the dog. Folk festival on when we visited gave a good atmosphere. Didn't have time to go into the house. We shall return.
J. D.
Great day out. Amazing house and fabulous grounds.
B. B.
Lovely, kids enjoyed it and loved the dress up. Staff were all really lovely
N. Y.
Love this place. The parking can be expensive but free if you already pay for a national trust card.
S. C.
Fantastic house and nice grounds
Z. T.
Tradeger House and its grounds are beautiful, but they are a bit run down - which is a shame. The National Trust are a massive and well funded organisation - it seems to me that National Trust properties are better maintained in England. Maybe there should be more funding allocated to this property especially as the National Trust headquarters for Wales are there? Still nice place to go for a stroll especially with small children, and there are some lovely craft workshops outside. The house itself is lovely with very interesting history - if you are happy to pay entrance fee or if you are a National Trust member. They do good seasonal events for children - especially at Christmas.
R. R.
Loved walking around the gardens. Popped into the house which had amazing ornate carvings out of wood.
Walked around the lake and saw a big fat Robin sat on a tree by the water. The staff in the house were very informative and really nice too.
C. R.
Lovely house and Gardens
Play area for the children
Camping and caravan club site
L. D.
Just so beautiful. The grounds, the house. I love it.
B. G.
Nice place to visit staff were very nice and knowledgeable also lovely grounds
J. H.
The National Trust are doing a wonderful job at Tredegar House. They've taken it on from Newport council and are slowly reversing decades of neglect. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and informative. They're generally enthusiastic about the history of the house and love sharing their knowledge. The café is clean and serves a small range of hot and cold snacks/light meals. The gardens are evolving so there's always something new to see. The public park behind is great for family activities.
A. J.
Great house and gardens. A lovely day out.
J. M.
Lovely place to stop and have lunch or walk the dogs. Great views and lovely Greenland's
A. T.
Not been for a few years. Lovely grounds around the house. Not very busy today, lovely and Sunny. Plenty of parking. Cafe only doing takeaway due to restrictions. Limited selection. No seating outside cafe which is a shame. NT shop shut down due to financial issues in wider NT, shame. Only one lot of toilets open. You must visit.
A. G.
Lovely house and grounds to walk around.
Well worth a visit.
Lovely coffee shop and food available too.
Been a few times always something different to see.
T. G.
Great place to visit. Enjoy walking around the house and the grounds. Tea Room is ideal for a nice coffee or food.
L. T.
This is a lovely house lots of rooms to explore and the servants quarters open to see which are always the good bits, would like to look around more of the grounds once not so wet
A. P. (.
Amazing park land which you can visit without paying to enter the building. If you do pay, you will be pleasantly surprised as the inside is really interesting. Great woodland walk, around a lake with plenty of wild fowl. Plenty of parking too.
a. h.
Lovely place to walk around, cafe and bookshop. Great place
S. S.
Love my walkin tredegar house and sipping gin and soda with wild breeys
T. W.
We loved this place, the grounds are huge, the house is stunning. There's a lovely big pond. We enjoyed walking round with our children and the dog. Lovely what ever the weather , if you can brave the cold, be sure to wrap up, and you won't be disappointed. A great place if you like to participate in tree hugging, 😅 as there are some beautiful & very old trees :) get some proper history in your lungs 😁🌳🌳🌳
S. P.
As a local resident and national trust member. We frequent here nearly everyday with our dog. Beautiful place. Definately recommend.
N. B.
Great place to visit. There's a lovely cafe onsight, but it's a little expensive. Dogs are allowed in the cafe if on a lead. Plenty of parking, which is chargeable. Play park and lake. Lovely open spaces and of course there's the house itself.
J. M.
Lovely couple of hours spent in the grounds with 3 kiddies and a dog on a sunny afternoon there is no better place to while away. Parking is ample , the grounds are spacious and well kept . A wander around the house and stables is definitely advisable. The volunteers are very approachable and eager to assist you with information about the house and it's historical residents.
P. R.
Just wonderful. A little oasis. Great for families, dog walkers and peace!
D. P.
Beautiful parkland and very popular with both early morning runners and dog walkers
K. B.
Beautiful grounds for a walk, lots to see and do and has a great cafe to treat yourself. Plenty of parking available
M. T.
Only visited the grounds as we were having a family picnic. Beautiful parkland and grounds with nice lake. Hose looks amazing will be back again. Nice cafe on site. Very helpful staff.
F. F.
gardens are beautiful
r. r.
Lovely place and great scones and welsh rarbit
A. C.
Enjoyed the visit and walk around the grounds, nice for a few hours out especially in the nice weather.
A. F.
Found this place whilst visiting family and couldn’t believe I hadn’t visited sooner. It’s a huge place with the usual national trust cafe and visitor attractions. It has a huge lake with stacks of wildlife and beautiful trees surrounding it. There’s play parks for the kids and a caravan club stop over site next door.
V. H.
Nice walk around the lake and enjoying the folk festival
J. P.
It costs £2 to park for a few hours, it's free to walk around this beautiful site, dogs are welcome, there's a park for kids, shops and a lovely cafe - great place to come, whether you look around the house or not!
C. L.
Love to have a walk around the grounds of Tredegar House. The children and the dog has plenty of room to run and explore without getting in other people's way. Great for a picnic and some quality family time.
c. p.
Country park with lots of flat level paths. Gets s bit muddy in some parts. Parking is reasonable at £1 an hour or free for NT members. Decent cafe with good range of food and drinks. Not open every day so best check before visiting if you're thirsty :-)
M.
Great place to stretch your legs, we didn't get in the house this visit but will do in future. Gardens looked a bit tired, but time of year, cafe was expensive £3.50 for a slice of cake.
P. M.
Had a great day here. The grounds are free to enter, have superb walks around the lake and perimeter. Dogs are permitted except in the house. Children's play areas are available too.
The house is just under £10 for an adult, but there are concessions available. Parking for also costs from £1 depending on how long you stay. The house is nicely presented and has a very interesting history. Different rooms are made up according to the era they represented at the time. Most of the main rooms have been preserved as they were back in their day.
Trust volunteers are on hand to help and give interesting talks. They are quite knowledgeable and worth speaking to. Apparently the visitors only get to see about half of the house. Hopefully it will all be restored one day.
Tea room, toilets, gifts and crafts are all available to help round off your day.
Definitely worth a visit and the entrance fees will help to keep this fascinating piece of local history alive.
S. H.
Great house, beautiful gardens (best seen in the summer).
K. F.
Although the house is still closed because of the pandemic, the gardens are open and they alone are worth a visit. Formal gardens but lovely informal planting in some beds. Warm welcome on arrival with clear information on what was available to visit and eating options
B. J.
Love this place. Lovely grounds and the house and the guides are great. Lots of rooms and such a lot of fascinating facts and interactive elements. Not so good for toddlers, but get the older ones dressing up and get their imagination going!
Got mine 😏 when I saw the bath full of champagne bottles! Oh how they lived back then eh?!
R. J.
Fascinating place. Nice grounds to walk round with a lake. The volunteer guides were very enthusiastic and told us about life at the house in times past. Thanks
R. H.
A lovely historic house. Tours available around the house. Run by the National Trust, the grounds are kept lovely and tidy. A beautiful big lake (with walks around the woodland) and row boat hire (the last time I visited)
Nice Park for the children to play in. Plenty of picnic benches to enjoy a day out. More recently, it has hosted a 'Party In The Park' in June 2019 with loads of 80s bands and artists on the bill. But for most of the time, it's just a nice country park with a very historic and interesting Tredegar House set in beautiful grounds.
M. G.
The grounds and lake / pond are amazing this time of year, perfect for a cold autumnal walk, definitely worth a visit! And pop in to the cafe there as their pasties are delicious and I had what was probably the nicest Americano I've had there. In alot of places they are too hot and too weak but here they were strong, tasty and just right!
C. E.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.
Overall a terrific visit !
N.
A beautiful National Trust park in Newport, only around 10 minutes away from the centre. Still open during the current restrictions, only able to visit the parkland around it. Parking isn’t free, but very reasonable at £1/hour. Went on a lovely and tranquil walk, and saw the gorgeous lake too. Will be back as soon as possible hopefully!
M. R.
Always pleasant to stroll round the grounds. Why has the cafe stopped doing baked potatoes? I was looking forward to one
L. B.
What an unknown gem. The guides here were amazing, friendly, chatty and full of information. The whole place was great for my teenagers too. Lots of space to walk and talk and some lovely plants in the gardens. Horses and stables were very interesting too. Great drop in on the way to my aunts.
A. W.
Set on the edge of Newport, Tredegar House, gardens, lake and parkland are an unexpected gem.
Visiting the house was very interesting. Learning about the history and walking around the rooms. The volunteers were very knowledgeable and friendly. The formal and walled gardens are well kept and beautiful. The trees are wonderful.
There is extensive parkland and a large lake. There is a great verity of mature fir trees, including Giant Red Wood. Also many other trees as well.
The lake is very large and there is a walk all the way around. The lake has plenty of plant life and water birds.
There is also a children's playground, a cafe and craft shops.
Al in all a great day out.
M. B.
A great place to visit. Called in on our way further into Wales and we weren't disappointed. The volunteers were so knowledgeable and made the house come alive. The gardens looked beautiful and would have wandered more if the weather hadn't been so drizzly. Staff friendly and a lovely lunch in the coffee shop.
J. C.
Brilliant experience at the outdoor cinema, did get a little chilly, take seats, blankets, sit back and enjoy.
A. S.
An extremely interesting place, full of colourful history. Great work by the National Trust in preserving and restoring a historically valuable site. The volunteers are knowledgeable and friendly and the coffee shop serves great food and drinks throughout the day. The grounds are great for walks and are also dog friendly although pets are not allowed inside the house.
H. H.
Lovely location and although it is a National Trust property if you don't want to tour the house the large park and lake are free entry. Enjoyed the Folk festival there and again were able to enjoy free entry and all the dance acts. A great place for a family day out and picnic
L. D.
I've always adored this place since I was a little girl. It's so captivating and truly transports you to another place. It can be a little expensive to get in, but it's definitely worth it, especially for special events like Halloween and Christmas where they pull out all the stops. If you don't fancy spending a penny though, the grounds are free to walk and are absolutely stunning and so well maintained, there's even a little park to entertain the kids if they get bored on your amble. The restaurant is dog friendly and (big thing for me at the moment) breastfeeding friendly. The food is lovely and the staff are so warm and welcoming. Definitely visit here if you feel so inclined to come to Newport.
J.
Beautiful grounds to walk around. Especially loved the Growing Space shop. The staff there were marvelously helpful, I could have stayed for hours.
I. C.
Very nice place to look around (even though the weather was very bad). The open house is good as you can take photographs inside (with no flash) unlike many other historic properties and places. The cafe was OK however there are not many seats/tables so during busy times you could be stuck without a table like we were so we had to be separated as a family. Otherwise food is OK.
N. C.
A great historic house in the Heart of Newport 🥰 so lovely that it continues to thrive with lots of festivals and there are also great places to eat too 😀
T. D.
Another historic gem, had a lovely day here. A great place for couples and family ... not to be missed
R. S.
If you want a free experience then there are vast gardens and trails to explore around the lake. Ideal for a picnic and some running around with the kids. Great for dogs too and there are lots around. Some nice shops and the tea room. Family ticket to the house seemed a little pricy to us though at almost £30.
C. R.
Has great heritage. A gift shop tea room and craft outlets. Good parking. Nice walking paths with fields and a large pond home to some wildlife. Feed the swans and hundreds of ducks. Pub and shops not too far away accepts coach trips. Over all- a nice enough day out.
A. P.
Lovely well kept growns, perfect for family walks with some great views
J. C.
A lovely stately home to visit. It costs to tour the house, but the grounds are free. There's a lovely cafe, some niche shops and a caravan club site, all in the grounds. They are also developing community facilities for groups and training. The National Trust have done a great job here and it's definitely worth a visit.
P. w.
Great area to walk dogs. Coffee is far too expensive, when there is a greggs within 1/4" of a mile. Greggs bacon roll =£1.70.
Tredegar house cafe bacon roll = £4.25! See you in greggs ladies & gentleman!!!!!
D. M.
The house itself is terrific with great displays particularly in the kitchens downstairs. As I love the nuts and bolts type areas, I was disappointed not to be able to see the laundry rooms or a gardeners cottage which are the rooms where the everyday running of these great houses was evident. Stables were amazing too! I know work continues, the National Trust is a gift to the UK...so lucky to have it.
L.
Really frendly staff. Intersting history. Good facilities. Dog frendly.
A. C.
House now open 10 til 4. Only visited the café and grounds on a beautiful sunny day. Café has both inside tables and outside courtyard picnic tables. Cafe has small range of finger food and good coffee and other drinks. Spent a very pleasant 2 hours drinking coffee in the courtyard and then walking to the large lake. This is very natural; crystal clear water with large water lily island and plenty of ducks and swans. Fine views of the lovely Tredegar House and gardens. Once used for Antiques Roadshow. This is a treasure of a place that will please each time no matter how often you go.
R. H.
It was a really lovely old house really worth going there for the day. Remember to take a picnic because the price of food is really over priced.
B. G.
A must visit for anyone. The house is sympathetically being restored with much original material, the staff & volunteers are very friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk with. History bought to life!
The day we visited was very wet so we were not able to visit the gardens but a return visit is a must!
S. H.
The grounds are amazing for a family walk or picnic
J. F. H.
Beautiful old house and lovely parkland. Unfortunately one of the cafes was shut that day, so there wasn't a great choice for lunch. We went on the Saturday when there was a small fayre showcasing local products. A few stalls selling hot food to eat would have been great.
M. O.
Very welcoming volunteer staff.Interesting story of the Morgan family. Nice lake that is open to non NT members
M. N.
AMAZING HOUSE AND HISTORY!!!!
lovely walks over the grounds and the staff within the house are so helpful and kind.
Really knew their stuff!!!
Children loved it, nice play park.
Lots to see and do.
Nice cafe with good prices and a gift shop.
A. C.
Lovely place for a walk. Parking is £2 for 4 hours or £5 for the day if you are not National Trust members. Today there was a food and craft fair as well as a folk festival so a huge amount to see and do for £2. Parkland is beautifully maintained and great for kids. There is also a kids play park and a cafe in the grounds.
J. R.
The grounds and the house are great and very historical, things around the house and lark for all ages.
Only kind of and it's a big kind of, is the entry price being kind of high, before the change to national trust there used to be access to the main gardens without playing for the whole package with the house.
But still a great place to visit with the family and the staff really know their history.
V. L.
Really interesting and beautiful old house. Although they are still renovating the attics, cellar and some of the bedrooms it's still well worth a visit. They have a fun dress up area for the kids, though as a 25 year old I still enjoy it!
The people who were working there are all friendly and informed and made you feel welcome.
They don't charge the world for the car park.
The only criticism I have was that due to a craft fair that day, the café was overcrowded. There wasn't enough seats and tables weren't being cleared and cleaned. The brownie I had in the café was absolutely gorgeous, however the pot of tea that my auntie had looked very weak.
Overall a very pleasant day out, will have to back there again when it's sunny to see the gardens.
C. W.
A lovely place to walk around. A lake with ducks and other wildlife to wander around and chill. Worth researching the history of this place as it has a very interesting past. You can pay for entry into the house and there is a large tarmac parking area with free parking for blue badge holders
C. S.
Brilliant place to walk with the family. ... Particularly good for dog walking ... Big green open fields and a beautiful lake to walk around
S. E.
Great place for children, picnics and dogs. Lovely views of the House and lake.
J. H.
Beautiful building, inside and out, with extensive grounds. Fairly interesting - the room guides strike the right balance of information without getting dull (a hazard in some NT properties). I recommend a 'behind the scenes' tour for a more in depth story on what life was like there. I did the attic tour, they also do cellar tours, so I need to go back one day! Check website for tour details (check anyway, it's a popular site for filming so the house is occasionally closed).
O. R.
Beautiful walk around the lake. Love the family friendly atmosphere and the open space for dog walkers. The tea rooms are sublime and the gift shop is brilliant. Perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon.
S. L.
Children loved this tour, shame we were not able. To tour inside due to covid, but it was an expensive day out 2 adults 3 children, the cafe is very expensive over rated but building and history is wonderful
D. S.
A truly beautiful house nestled in well kept gardens. We had a lovely experience here on St. David's day. The staff had put on loads of activities for the day and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Worth a visit.
T. G.
Grounds are great and it's a good place for tea and cake. The house is interesting and they have great staff.
Excellent for dogs - some dog friendly tables inside the cafe. Though you can't take dogs into the house.
At Christmas it's always worth visiting with the kids who love to see Scrouge!
H. J.
Lovely house and walled garden but only place in 30 years of national trust membership that I felt unsafe from dogs. May be dog friendly but not human friendly if you have a dog phobia. I joined the national trust due to my fear and I really hope I can continue to enjoy country walks as a NT member.
D. S.
A marvelous place to visit with so much history. Well worth the money and time to visit. There is continual works going on so regular visits will show you the restoration as it progresses. The volunters are obviously very enthusiastic and have an extensive knowledge of the building and occupants through the ages. Even gardener's are happy to talk about the plants.p
T. D.
Lovely walks around the grounds. Nice little park for kids to play in.
Really popular with dog walkers.
Cafe is ok for quick stop and bite to eat (dog friendly also)
Didnt go in to house but cant wait to go back when the weather is nicer...fingers crossed.
R. T.
Lovely Gardens and a really well presented house with rooms set in three different eras. A nice walk around the lake and probably one of the best cafes with the variety of outside seating areas I've seen at a National Trust property
n. m.
Love to go here, shops in the old out buildings nice cafe on site as well as wonderful grounds to walk around. Also the house if you are a member of the National Trust. Nice for an evening walk. Its nothing strenuous or long just a pleasant stroll to waste a few hours
R. D.
I've only been a NT member for a few years but visited many of the properties around the M25 and the to and around the Midlands. Loved all the properties but this one was special, don't think we've spent so long at a property. Great history and the features in the property are amazing. Make sure you look down to the floor to admire the amazing floor boards!
I. E.
Spent a pleasant day looking around the house and gardens.
M. G. _.
A lovely old house with very pretty grounds. Currently undergoing work on the roof but this didn't disrupt our visit much. As always with NT properties, the volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable, so make sure you take the opportunity to speak to them!
J. A.
Pay and display parking close to the house and small craft centres. The house and inner garden and cafes close at 16.00, access to the park from house closes at 17.30. plenty of places for children to play also has a lake which has wild fowl, if intending to walk around lake it can be mucky and overgrown in parts. A nice day out but check parking prices for long stays
M. P.
Great range of interiors from different eras. Pleasant lake. Very helpful guides! Just catch their eye if you want to get a potted history of their room. Nice cafe. A dalek! House closed over winter as they do their restoration work.
D. C.
Lovely place, however doesn't make sense that tons of effort has been put in to have plastic free takeaway cups and cup holders yet there's no cardboard / paper bins? You had glass, metal and plastic bins which people had ended up shoving the paper cups into due to not having the right one!
J. F.
Nice location, friendly and informative people and a cafe. Grounds are being renovated and are well looked after. A pleasant walk through the trees around the lake.
C.
Really enjoyed it here, good dog and child place. Beautiful fields and lake. Also, good children's play ground. Didn't go in the house but, will next time we go.
n. n.
Absolutely amazing house and gardens. Highly recommend a visit. Enjoyable for the whole family. Gardens and lake are really beautiful and the walk around isn't long. And the house is amazing, with such a grand history. Definitely worth a visit.
R. R.
Easy to get to, close to M4, pay and display car park, free for NT members, lovely rural setting, nice lake walk, amazing house, with access up an external stairway to look down on the roof repairs, super cafe with good menu and food at very reasonable prices, a few craft shops. Allow plenty of time as there is a lot to see, a great day out with plenty of picnicking space
M. C.
National Trust property and great day out! Just outside Newport besides the house there are walks around the grounds, plenty of parking, a shop, a couple of cafés/restaurants, a play area, boating lake and acres of grassed areas for playing and picnics. Very friendly staff and a recommended day out if in the South Wales area. Just off the M4.
D. W.
Really interesting building, staff were really friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable, lovely parkland grounds and lake, it was a pity that the upstairs of the house was not open to the public
P. P.
Disappointed that you don't get to see the whole house, there's many rooms & areas that aren't accessible. A shame to see the state of some of the rooms as a result of neglect in the past. Grounds & park are nice in the summer. A tea room on site doing snacks & drinks. Can get very busy if the weather's nice.
D. J.
Very interesting place to visit
Nice cafe
M. P.
A beautiful historic house that is gradually being restored. The work is often open for visitors to see the restoration processes. Interesting history of the family previously owning it during a time of social upheaval in the industrial revolution. Often having hands on opportunities for educational visits such as kitchen life re-enactments, dressing up, and always with very knowledgeable volunteer guides.
P. M.
Wonderful old house great volunteer staff to tell you all about what went on in it over the years. Dressing up clothes, a great couple of tea shop/cafes, nice homemade cakes. Plenty of variety in the grounds, formal and parkland.
M. P.
Beautiful short walk around the lake
H. C.
Didn't go in the house as we were just wandering around the grounds but had an ice cream and looking forward to our next walk about and maybe visiting the house. Lots of open space to walk the dogs and the little cafe has doggy ice cream too which is lovely.
K. H.
Knowledgable team of volunteers made this a delightful journey fueled with history and gossip! Make sure you ask lots of questions!
R. P.
Lovely place to walk the dog and stretch your legs. Little play area for kids and great hot chocolate and snacks
R. M.
Just beautiful grounds for a stroll, whatever the weather
A. V.
Fantastic day out. Went there today for the pirates day and oh my what an organisation. Being members of the NT we have been to many events but this was our first time in Tredegar and everything was perfect. The weather, the volunteers were so friendly and knowledgeable, the many activities for the kids well thought, safe and fun. Will definitely go back.
G. Y.
This is lovely place to visit. Even on a slightly wet day. Plenty to see and do and this summer the added bonus of going up on the scaffold and see I g the roof works. It has some gift shops and independent retailers on site selling craft work.
C. J.
The National Trust are doing a great job reorienting this important site into a fascinating place to visit. Some 'interesting' characters in that family to say the least... :) The ground are also lovely to stroll around and the food was great.
G. C.
Interesting house and it's history of the Morgan family.
R. P.
I was fortunate recently to be invited to a wedding here within the fantastic buildings and grounds of Tredegar house. Not only was it a fantastic day out for the newly weds, but as a guest it was a great venue to see!
Staff were very friendly, the grounds were immaculate and the inside of the house too was stunning in parts. Well worth a visit if ever you're out Newport way!
P. W.
Another great NT place. I love learning about the history in these amazing places. Looking at a portrait and trying to imagine what that person was like in real life. Bet most of the portraits were not painted 'warts and all' as demanded by Oliver Cromwell.
N. T.
Had a lovely day exploring the house and gardens. The parkland is vast and could easily have spent many more hours wandering around. National Trust staff were extremely helpful and informative in the house.
g.
Superb visit. Winter soon but gardens and park are Great. Had the walk around the House. Nice Xmas spirit and decorations.
F. W.
Tredegar House is such a friendly destination for dogs and their families. Plenty of outdoor cafe space and the park is such a lovely walk for them.
A. S.
Great place to visit, nice gardens, just off the M4. The main park is open to the public, you only need a ticket /membership for the gardens and house. No dogs in the house itself, but welcome elsewhere, including the cafe.
D. R.
Lovely house. Lovely walk with the dog. Lovely cake. Not so lovely tea.
L. T.
Lovely grounds ideal for summer picnic and ball games. Play are for the children. Ice-cream shop (only takes cash). Lovely cafee area hot and cold food. Some lovely small traditional shops, wood working, chocolate, sewing and wool. Second hand book shop newly opened, they are happy to take books and magazine donations. Always worth checking the web site for events recently held a pirate weekend. Grandkids loved it.
V. K.
It is a lovely place to walk with lovely gardens. See the history of 17th-century Charles II era country mansion. It has a cafe. If you are a national trust member you can park and enter for free
M. B.
Stunning house to visit and grounds
S. G.
Historic house and gardens in Newport run by National Trust. Cafe bar on site. Plenty of paid parking. Large lake with boats.
Toilets open. Great for a picnic.
S. S.
Amazing place, definitely worth a visit. We regularly take the kids for a walk round the grounds.
D. G.
We had a nice day out here; it was interesting exploring the house and there were activities on for children (pumpkin carving etc).
We didn't really have time to explore all of the gardens and play areas.
R. H.
Lovely day out. Enjoyed walking in the grounds. Christmas trees were lovely!
a. b.
It's a beautiful place to spend a day out with the family, perfect for a picnic, a play area for the kid's too. Scenic lake to enjoy and walk around, very peaceful and relaxing. Refreshments available too.
J. I.
Excellent, lots to see and do plus the cafe does a very nice cherry cake.
C. M.
A really interesting, flat walk around the grounds. Loads of evidence of nature at each season. Very dog friendly. Plenty of seating for the cafe, but gets very busy at peak times.
T. A. M.
My daughter loves this place. Great for families.
B. T.
When visiting Wales this is a wonderful place to visit. Owned by the Morgan family. Nothing to do with rum. But the transportation of coal and iron ore. Once a 40000 acre estate throughout monmouthshire it is still a beautiful sight to behold. The lamb cawl here is a favourite especially with a local ale.
J. S.
Excellent place to go and escape the tussle of daily life. Good walking paths, excellent coffee shop...lots of seats to sit and people watch or should that be dog watch!! Tredegar House itself is also well worth a visit when it's raining!!
M. N.
It's a lovely walk, we were there because my son went to a cooking class in the old laundry room
J. L.
Particularly enjoyed the kitchens here. Usual helpful NT staff.
D. C.
Tradegar House is a beautiful piece of architecture that is enriched with history and art. The staff are hard working to ensure the grounds and the buildings are maintained to the highest standards. Members of the public can find a wide variety of services including Easter egg hunt with Cadbury and even a onsite cafe where it's nice to sit back and relax. The Customer service is to perfection I really can not say anything bad. As I live near I still like to visit especially during hot summer's day with the family and friends. There's spacious parking including disabled parking for badge holders.
A. B.
Nice house, it is currently being improved so some areas were not available. Provides an interesting view of life.
The tearooms have a nice selection of light lunches.
B. F.
A beautiful building just spoiled by the politically-biased t-shirts the lovely volunteers are forced to wear. 'I bawb I byth' well not for everyone and let's trust not forever.
B. N.
Very accessible off the m4. Is probably only a half day visit.
Is somewhere great to take the children's to explore and play in the park if your a national trust member
M. K.
Really grand house. Billionaires home from the 1400s.
M. R.
Lovely Garden and history behind this amazing house ! Proud to be an National Trust member 🙂
A. E.
Christmas tour of Tredegar House was fantastic. Tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and amusing. Obviously the whole house was decorated beautifully and really got us in the festive mood all capped off with mince pies and mulled wine 😍🎄
L. &. P. R.
Fantastic house and grounds. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable.
W. P.
Very good day out. We were able to take the dog in all part of the site, of except the house. Burt loved it, we did have to watch his tail in the shop.
S. O.
Lovely grounds to walk around with my kiddies age 4 and 5. Saw squirrels in the trees. Lots of dog walkers! Lovely little cafe too.
P. C.
Well presented National Trust property , grounds well maintained with a more modern twist but keep a tradition layout ... this place has also been used as a filming location for many different productions , the gates you may recognize from the intro the Antiques Roadshow , and also may go to some way of explaining the somewhat out of place Darlek hiding in the stable block.
Plenty of parking available , although it is on a pay and display basis , however like most of the National Trust property's it is free if you are a member
B. M.
One of the finest properties in Wales with an interesting story to tell of a long line of the Morgan dynasty. Immense wealth from the early industrial age with all the trappings that it brought and also stories of heroism in the Crimea war and charge of the light brigade. Eventually the profligate expenditure of a couple of the heirs left the lifestyle unsustainable and the estate was sold in the 1960's. It is now leased by the National Trust and makes a splendid day out.
M. D.
Lovely gardens, well maintained. Great day out enjoyed by the whole family. Very helpful staff.
F. T. K. T.
It's a very nice park
P. H.
Tredegar House is a gem. I've been going there for 40 years and the work the National Trust have put in over the past few years have made such a difference. The house and gardens are being restored to their former glory and it's great to see.
K. E.
Love the grounds, often walk around with my children, great park area. Ducks on the lake.
House itself is amazing and recently restored.
F. I.
Another gem of the national trust! Made me finally become a member. A beautiful garden with picnic areas and games for children around a house with many historical objects and a long story to tell.
s. b.
Great curried cauliflower and chickpea pasties
S. T.
Halfway stop on way back from Pembrokeshire to Nottingham. Kids loved running round and exploring. Great history and lunch just what was needed.
H. O.
Great place with huge park lands to explore! Play park is nice and a cafe is always welcome so itticks all the boxes.
D. “. C.
Went here with my wife, two kids and friends. It was a lovely day out; the grounds are beautiful and the cafe, although a little pricey, was great! Will definitely go again.
M. P.
Just visited the grounds for a walk. It was perfect weather for it. Lots of wildlife and plenty of space.
S. M.
Very nice park, and an excellent place to take a break after the queues on the M4 through the tunnels. Also an excellent overnight stay in the Caravan / Campsite. (Caravan Club)
J.
Beautiful area to walk around with the dog or on your own, through the woodland or around the lake, a lovely coffee shop with friendly staff to have a drink to warm up after , hope to visit the house on my next visit. 😀
h. j.
Nice walk round the gardens, house not open at this time, dogs are allowed, and there were many but I didn't see any poo bins
T. W.
Need to get shop bring back more staff/volunteers.
M. D.
Due to corona virus the house was closed but the extensive park was open,we arranged to meet our daughter here whom we had not seen since lockdown. This meeting was equidistant to both our homes and complied with the Welsh rules regarding meetings,we had with us a small picnic to eat.It was the hottest day of the year and i regret to say that we were only able to find two benches to sit on in the entire park and these were in the open underneath the searing heat,we could find no picnic benches to enjoy our picnic and ended up sitting on an old log.I would add we could only find two benches in the entire park to sit on,I could see a large childrens play area but did not visit it .The many people who were there were sitting on the grass .
j. t.
Lovely grounds to walk in. A place where many water fowl overwinter. Great place to take the kiddies to feed the ducks. Dog friendly love it 👍👍👍👍
P. M.
A lovely walk is available round the grounds which are very much dog friendly. Haven't been inside the house yet as I always have the dog. Don't forget change for the parking machine
G. D.
Great property, with nice grounds, an impressive house and nice cafe! Friendly guides and good shops to browse at the entrance. Great visit in beautiful sunshine!
C. R.
Went for a Dally Rally. Kept seeing spots before my eyes. Leo met up with his sister, Olive, who hadn't seen him since they were 8 weeks old.
A. “. R.
Love coming here to see the gorgeous gardens.
I. L.
I went here at Christmas and was slightly disappointed. Went back recently and found a totally different venue. Well worth a visit to the house, it has lovely grounds, boating lake, woods, etc.
n. p.
Nice walk round the lake.
J. R.
Lovely place and very friendly staff
M.
Fascinating house. Plenty to see. Many rooms open to view. Beautiful grounds and pleasure lake to walk around. Recommend a visit.
J. B.
Really big place. Public can just rock on into the gardens so it gets crowded. Multiple kitchens, all kinds of rooms for all kinds of reasons, with sitting-down opportunities.
H. C.
It is great to walk around the house itself fascinate to see you can walk around seeing the clothes old-fashioned clothes you can learn quite alot in the house visit the stable is a must the garden is very nice you can walk around at your own pace
I. L.
Nice place to visit, you don't need to be a member to visit the outer areas including book shop and cafe.

This is the first time I've visited tradegar house.I was mighty impressed with the staff who are helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the people, the Morgan family and also how much has changed since it was first constructed in the 15th century. You need to go and see for yourself and make it a family trip as the children can dress up and be taught what it was like in the staff quarters and the household day to day operations.

A well up kept house the gardens are buitiful, plenty to see & starf are very apliging.

Great place to go on a sunny day plenty to do and quite central lot's of craft shops, you can have a tour of the house and the garden, there's also a restaurant and good walks kids will love where they can feed the swans and ducks on the lake, also take a look at the website and find out what's happening on the weekends to come, plenty of parking space and good prices £1 for two hours £2 four hours and always made welcome.
H. L. B.
The house is still closed and the garden not in good shape. The walk around the lake was nice - but this area is open to public anyways
R. S.
The grounds of Tredegar House are lovely, lots of wide open spaces, a lake to walk around and a big park for the kids. I also come here for park run which is always well organised with plenty of parking.
J. B.
Growing up close to this park has been wonderful, the vast open fields, lakes and heritage buildings can keep you occupied for hours. It's only a shame they charge for parking these days.
L. N.
Love this place but way to expensive to go into the house. You can spend all day on the grounds and in the park on a sunny day. Great day out but disappointed in the prices for the house.
C. G.
Visited the grounds and shop. Didn't visit the house. Extensive parkland and lake. Good for a picnic. Parking is pay & display for £1 an hour.
J. B.
The park is lovely to walk in. A tour around the lake and feed the ducks. Occasionally see huge gold fishes swimming. Also able to go on tours in the mansion.
