Reviews of Circle Reading Hospital
I was a patient on Day surgery unit on the 8th December and the process from start to finish was very impressive. The Pre assessment nurse was friendly, funny, chatty and very understanding about my needle phobia!!!a big thank you to her and the water she provided after taking my blood !The reception staff were helpful, and had a welcoming smile which is what you need when your slightly anxious about your procedure The staff on day surgery, theatres and recovery went out of their way to put me at ease, each and everyone of them were friendly and smiling. The surgeon was professional and explained everything to me and gave me time to ask any further questions I might had, at no time did anything seem rushed, it was a calm atmosphere which helps as I was extremely nervous. The catering staff where attentive and the sandwich after my procedure was fresh and beautifully presented and they we’re happy to proved me will endless cups of coffee.
There are too many people to thank individually ,but I do appreciate everything, Circle is lucky to have such a wonderful team of caring attentive staff
If I require further surgery I would certainly recommend Circle
I had hernia surgery on 19/04/2022. I have a massive fear of hospitals but Circle Reading never made me fear anything. Everyone involved in my care I met, they were all very nice and the information I was given was great. The whole process was a breeze and the support from each member of the team was what helped me feel so settled.
I came in as a patient from the NHS due to the NHS not able to meet deadlines so they outsource it, due to this I thought I'd perhaps be treated differently but I got the EXACT same care as everyone else. I travelled 1.5 hours to this hospital and it was worth every moment, if I ever need anything done again then this would be the first place I'd seek!
Attended day surgery and was very impressed with the nursing and consultant. But compared to other private hospitals the accommodation was very basic. I was just placed in a curtained cubicle the same as that in an NHS casualty unit. Food was very bland and the choices very minimal. Trying to get into the Day care unit was hard as nobody answers the bell. There used to be a reception area, but this is now unmanned. Luckily a consultant saw we where waiting and let us in.
I came in yesterday to have my gallbladder removed and ended up staying overnight due to extreme nausea-these lovely people have been amazingly helpful from start to finish! Can’t praise them highly enough! Keep up the good work 😊
I came to circle Reading hospital 17th January as an NHS patient, for total hip replacement.
Never have I experienced such treatment from cleaning to hospitality staff nurses to my surgeon
Mr Traveres the level of care I received was outstanding, anyone waiting to go into this
hospital you are in safe welcoming hands many thanks.
My experience of the Circle Reading improved after a rocky start.I was booked in to see my specialist on 21 Feb 22 for an initial appointment.Late morning on 18 Feb I received a confirmatory text about my appointment. Not 10 mins later I was texted by the specialist's secretary saying he was on leave on 21 Feb and the appointment was cancelled.
I attended on 28 Feb for my initial specialist's appointment at the appointed hour of 1330.It was 1515 before anyone from the Circle's staff came to see me.It was a senior nurse to apologise.
After these 2 experiences it was with some trepidation that I entered the hospital as an inpatient for my hip operation on 22 March.Throughout the 48hrs I was in hospital my treatment was faultless.Everyone from the consultant, anaesthetist ,physios, nurses and support staff treated me with kindness, professionalism and great care.Had I not had the 2 hiccups over my appointment I would have awarded a 5 star rating.

I’ve been a patient at Circle for almost a year and had numerous treatments including outpatient appointments, physiotherapy, scans & injections in radiology & 2 hip operations.
The quality of the care I have received has always been excellent.
My consultant Mr Pollard & Natalie the physiotherapist he works with are a great team and provide an outstanding service, explaining all the options in a way I understand & I feel I had a choice in my treatment plans.
The hospital staff were all very helpful. I was given appointments in a timely manner by Mr Pollard’s secretary and at every visit was always greeted with a smile by the friendly reception team.
Both my operations were during the pandemic but I felt safe & well looked after. The nurses were empathetic & listened to my needs. At the end of my hospital visit I was given clear instructions on my post operative care.
As a bonus the parking is free & the food is better than any hospital food I’ve ever had elsewhere!
I highly recommend Circle & several of my friends & family have also been patients and feel the same.
A fantastic hospital, an example of what hospitals should be like. Spotlessly clean, attentive and helpful staff from reception all the way through to consultants. Great choice and high standard of food served. A great experience from start to finish. Would highly recommend using Circle for your health needs.
I have had surgery at this hospital 3 times now and will not go anywhere else. The staff from arrival to discharge are so helpful and friendly. The food is amazing too. Thank you to everyone that made my stays enjoyable under the circumstances!! Keep up the good work 👍
I had day surgery at Circle on Friday 22nd of October 2021. I did not know what to expect, as this was my first ever operation in my life. However, it was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience and every single member of the team at Circle were amazing. From the Receptionist, to the Surgeon and every young lady and gentleman in between, you are all beautiful people for making me feel so comfortable. I felt as if I was a guest at the Savoy Hotel. Each and every member of the team kept me informed and updated me prior to my op and then post op. The information and care from the team on the ward was extra ordinary! Not one single request from myself seemed to be any trouble. Every person looking after me made me feel like I'd known them all individually for years. Hats off to each and every one of you for making me feel so comfortable, sharing stories and a few laughs along the way.
Thanks so much!
Excellent care at Circle. The best nursing care from start to finish. Treated my with dignity and respect at all times. Highly recommend, amazing hospital with very knowledgeable staff.
I had a day case procedure today at Circle Reading Hospital - what an impressive and wonderful experience. All of the staff were very friendly, caring and efficient, with great communication through what to expect before, during and after the day case procedure. My special thanks goes to my nurse Teshi, a very caring lady who really cares about the patient and goes the extra mile, and who made me feel very comfortable going into the operation. My surgeon Mr Brownlow and anaesthetist were absolutely fantastic, and generous with their time explaining things. Overall, I would highly recommend the Circle Reading Hospital for A* level care!
I visited Circle Reading in April for a total knee replacement carried out by Mr Pollard. The care I received from beginning to end was fantastic. The staff were amazing, the hospital clean, the food delicious and the room was very pleasant. The nurses went beyond my expectations, even providing toast at 2am with my painkillers! I would 100% recommend Circle, and I'll be going back to have the other knee done soon!
My mother had a hip replacement operation and, really, we can't praise this hospital highly enough. It is spotlessly clean, great facilities and the staff are absolutely outstanding, from the admin people through to the doctors and nurses. Mum is terrified of hospitals but everybody there treated her so well that she didn't want to leave! Thank you Circle Reading, we are so grateful for your fabulous care.
I went in for a day operation, and I was very nervous. But the staff were so lovely to me and made me feel so relaxed, it really help me alot And the after care was excellent.🙂
After being a patient at circle health reading for many years i can only say they have done nothing but go above and beyond to help me.
All staff are really helpful and always have a smile on there face.
The hospital is like staying in a 5 star.
The surgeon i have been under has always put my needs 1st, always listened to what i had to say, always greeted me with a smile and was always caring.
I will never forget how much everyone has done for me at circle health reading.
100% recommend this hospital.
I had a great experience at this hospital from the start. The hospital is lovely. All the staff were super friendly and my appointment went really well. Would definitely recommend.
I had a small procedure under general anaesthetic at Circle Reading yesterday. I have never had an anaesthetic before but I had nothing to worry about. Everything was explained to me really well and the care I received from the moment I arrived to when I left was amazing, from the doctors to the nurses, to the porters to the admin staff. Everything worked like clockwork, despite there being obvious covid measures in place. The place doesn't feel like a hospital at all, more like a hotel. It was so relaxing, I almost wanted to stay longer!! Thank you to my doctor Kevin Smith and all the team. What a fantastic job you do.
I had a knee replacement surgery in the hospital . The staff were very caring and concerned for my welfare at all times. I would particularly like to mention the anesthetist who recognised my nervousness and gave me a lot of confidence and comfort. Edward who was an agency nurse and therefore one could have thought would be least concerned about me showed real compassion, anticipating my needs. Nothing was too much trouble for him , a true human being.
I have just received the physiotherapy pre-assessment video from the team at the Circle Hospital and found it very informative and extremely helpful. This all seems to bode very well for my operation which will take place on the 1st of February.
Currently awaiting ACL surgery and had my initial accesment today. Had a call on the way in to advise the doctor was off sick and they wouldent be able to see me. I explained that I appreciate this can not be helped but I had booked the time off work and was on my way as the call was 30 mins prior to my appointment. I then had a call 40 minutes later and told they would look at me straight away which was brilliant news. On arrival Anne was very welcoming and went above and beyond to give me good service. I see Dr Patel who fitted me in on very short notice and who was very welcoming and professional. I am now awaiting a call for ACL reconstruction surgery. I appreciate how they went above and beyond to get this sorted with circumstances out of there control and especially Anne. 5 star service. I look forward to having my operation carried out by the circle team.
I was very fortunate to have been referred there by the NHS, for a total hip replacement, as the waiting times at RBH had risen to over a year due to Covid. The Patient Care I received was exemplary. I had a private, en suite, room, and everything I needed was to hand. The food was fantastic, the medical attention was top notch, and everyone seemed to have a smile on their face. The operation went smoothly, with the minimum of delay, and was a complete success. The NHS should be able to run like this, it's just a shame it isn't. But, a big thank you to all the staff, and the surgeon, for taking great care of me.
I went to the Circle Reading Hospital for a Painful Hip and problem Walking I saw Mr Shawn Tavares who taken time and arranged for me to have appointment to have MRI Scan can not fault the Hospital or Mr Shawn first class.
I had to go in for a gastroscopy this morning and for the first time in years had to go in alone. I also opted to not be sedated - another first for me. The care I received from the moment I walked in the door until I walked out, was absolutely faultless. Everyone was really lovely and caring. I cannot recommend this hospital, Mr Hale and his team enough.
I had a hip arthroscopy on January 21st and due to covid it was my first operation without family support during my time in hospital. I stayed one night. The staff were amazing. They cared for me just as if I was their family. They really cared for me through what was a very distressing and anxious time for me. I wish them all well and stay safe x
Fantastic, modern facilities. I've visited for appointments and a day case operation. The staff are amazing. As soon as you step foot in the building the care is exceptional, from reception / cafe / porter / HCP's.
Following a referral from my GP, the process of obtaining an appointment and seeing a consultant via video call was efficient, helpful and reassuring. I now have a clear plan of action and feel comfortable that I am being cared for and my needs will be met. Great service !
This is an excellent Hospital very clean. All staff are very helpful, professional and you could not ask for more. Before my operation they constantly checked me the procedure explained to me fully. I came out of Hospital for the first time pain free. Thank you for the excellent care.
Absolutely superb facility and staff, recently had a shoulder operation and all of the staff in day surgery could not have been more friendly and efficient. I felt very well looked after from the moment I arrived to the moment I left.
Thank you all!
Welcomed into the hospital with a friendly smile, was very nervous but was put at ease straight away.Friendly staff the Room's are very clean, excellent food more like a hotel. Not forgetting the doctor done a brilliant job
I recently had surgery here & found it an absolute pleasure . Spotlessly clean & the staff were amazing. It was like being in a 5 star hotel . I'm actually looking forward going back. THANK YOU EVERYONE.
Nigel Robinson.
Wonderful hospital with equally wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they treat you like a patient and not a name and number. Cannot express my gratitude for all the help and support they have given me. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of seeking medical help.
Great place to work, relaxed atmosphere with the patients experience at the heart of the company.
Lovely hospital. Clean and welcoming. Just went for consultant visit today, but was put at my ease. Parking a bit busy.
Absolutely way above any other Hospital I've visited in terms of service and efficiency. Top Consultants and very highly motivated staff. Consistently excellent.
Amazing hospital , from receptionist warm welcome greeting , to office staff working behind the scenes , all through porters , nurse's , Drs and anesthetist surgeon's, all excellent listening skills and understanding 😁 thank you thank you 👍
Great facility, staff friendly and appointment went well. would recommend using this hospital.
Had key hole surgery to remove my gallbladder by Mr Hale on the 15th of December all I can say is from the moment I got there till the moment I left all staff were amazing I suffer with anxiety and they made me feel so relaxed from the beginning if I could give them more star ratings I would.... Just want to say a big thank you to everyone there 😁
Beautiful modern pristine hospital with very good staff. They are helping my mother and are frontline heroes.Very pleased and happy with the wonderful service.
An excellent experience. Such wonderful staff, helpful at all hours my 3 night stay was made so easy. The post operative, out patient care has been equally excellent.
This is a fantastic hospital all staff are so pleasant and helpful , I have spent a lot of time in there with a reverse shoulder replacement and three disk problems . Was there last Wednesday for the day and only arranged the previous day . That’s service you will not get anywhere else
Cannot fault my stay here at all. Everyone was so helpful and attentive. Clear communication. Lovely food (what a nice surprise that was). Excellent assistance all round. If there were an option for 10 stars I would give it cannot reccomend highly enough.
Excellent care and attention both as an inpatient and outpatient, from nursing staff and Consultants. Even though I no longer live in Berkshire I still prefer to travel there for my treatment. I would highly recommend the Circle Hospital.
Great staff. Always efficient service. Food is great at the cafe and in patient services. Thanks Circle. Keep it up!
A neat looking hospital with contemporary design and modern building right in the centre of a progressive development. Hopefully they also have the modern surgical facilities with up to date equipment and new technology to go with it. The free car park is a plus that is a welcome facility. Upon arrival, and during this difficult time of Covid-19, I was greeted by a very friendly staff nurse who took my temperature at the door and explained all the procedure.
At the reception I was handed a form to be filled in to register for the first time but there was only one tall table in the waiting area where I could rest the paper to write. Why not give a clipboard and a pen that would be more convenient to write? In the waiting area most of the seats are low and not user friendly!
But why on earth they chose drab looking, dark colour, uncomfortable, cheap looking upholstery in the large waiting area?
I recently had an appointment with a very professional, polite and extremely knowledgeable orthopaedic consultant. I was delighted to have conversation with and pleased to have chosen this hospital. The examination was thorough with no rush and plenty of questions answered.
Great hospital, very clean in all areas. Most importantly the team members I came into contact with were all great and so professional, good humoured and the right amount of care & attention. I cannot speak highly enough of my consultants, secretaries, the nurses, receptionists and physiotherapists. If I should ever need a procedure again, I hope I can afford to come to this hospital in future. Thank you Nev, Sean, Debbie and Emily in particular.
Everyone here were very caring and kind. I felt extremely safe and well looked after
Both my husband and myself have used the services of this hospital. I was private and my husband NHS, my husbands appointments were always prompt and dealt with efficiently
I went to the circle for an appointment to look at a cataract in my right eye. I was seen very promptly and the staff were very kind and helpful.
Everything was carefully explained.
The hospital is a credit to the NHS!
Gloria McAdden
Was referred to the Circle for osteoarthritis in my knee... both the visit with the consultant and the follow up mri scan were faultless!
As a NHS patient I thought I would be treated differently. I can honestly say that this wasn't the case and I cannot thank Mr Chris Brown (spinal) and his team enough for giving me my life back.
The hospital is very clean and has a very relaxed atmosphere.
Thank you Circle Reading
Had a toe operation. MacAndrew was my consultant and he explained everything and put me ear in the day.
From my first appointment to operation to check up appointment took less than a month, well
All staff were friendly and efficient.
Thank you
I had a good experience at Circle Hospital. Thank you to Ms Lucie Watson and her competent hard working team. Despite a busy work schedule, she has a good bedside manner. Excellent attention to detail- a true, dedicated professional in every sense.
went in for a cataract operation and was very nervous of what to expect but as I turns out I had nothing to worry about the operation was painless and the results are life changing Miss Watson has given me sight back and you can see straight away.
I have now booked in to get to get my other eye done can't thank them enough
Steve
Fantastic Hospital with ALL staff so kind and helpful. My Consultant's Secretary was an absolute angel after my 1st Surgery was cancelled due to my blood results. When everything was sorted out she went out of her way to rearrange my Surgery again
.
All the staff, from the Drs and Nurses through to the reception and coffee shop, are always extremely friendly, professional and genuinely caring. The hospital itself feels more like a hotel at times, which takes a lot of the stress out of visiting. The only thing that could be improved is the parking situation
Where to start? This is a wonderful hospital. Private medical insurance has been the best investment I have ever made for my family of 5 and it’s latest (now 3rd) use was for my shoulder surgery yesterday. In a nutshell:
Easy access by car/bus - non central location is a bonus.
Free plentiful parking.
Efficient reception staff - minimal time waiting.
Short walks to any waiting and treatment areas.
Very clean throughout.
Plush seating, nice cafe, light and refined atmosphere.
My first radiography appointment was for 8am. I arrived at 7.50am and was having a coffee afterwards at 8.10am. Unbelievable.
Every single member of staff I met from the cleaners and the auxiliary support to nursing and clinical were all welcoming, polite, knowledgeable and courteous. It felt like a hotel.
First class experience with the shoulder team, this was my first general anaesthetic and it was a breeze. Woke up to a smiling face in total comfort, oblivious as to what had happened. Admitted 7am, surgery at 9.30am, I was ready to go by 11.30am. Cappuccinos on tap. Couldn’t have been better.
Not everyone will enjoy such a stress-free experience or a quick recovery I know, but if you want a great team of caring professionals - go to The Circle.
I had an arthroscopy at the circle and found all the staff amazing. Attention to detail from Dr brownlow before and after OP was more than I ever expected. Well done to all staff there you do an amazing job
All staff very friendly. Lovely atmosphere in all parts of the hospital
Professional first class consultation and care.
Lovely hospital, very modern. Staff are very polite and caring, the food is amazing too.
Great hospital and staff. Really quite place but enough parking
Lovely hospital. Really great staff here. Very clean and upbeat.
Fantastic private hospital. All the staff here are fabulous, from receptionists, to nurses and doctors. The physiotherapy facilities are wonderful and therapists very thorough and knowledgable.
My consultant was really thorough and can't fault that at all, the hospital itself is very nice compared to some NHS hospitals and there are no long waiting times etc or over running appointments. I had a few procedures there and the staff are lovely so attentive and caring towards me.
The only thing that prevented it being a 5 star was that I had to wait a bit longer for some appointments, with similar waiting times to the NHS. That is my only qualm and when you are paying private you kinda want to be seen quicker than if you where just going through the NHS. The other thing was that the timings weren't that flexible either, they weren't really suited around work etc. Which other private hospitals I have been treated at before, they make sure the timings of appointments really work for you and your life schedule.
Overall a great service!
Had a successful procedure on back by Mr.Brown.
Very nice hospital.
Treatment is good but then it ought to be as you are paying for it.
I would strongly suggest to check your statement carefully before you pay as hospital kept asking me higher amount than due
Fantastic experience. I had Dupuytrens contracture and from the surgeon to all the support staff my experience was universally excellent. Short waiting times, friendly staff and an excellent surgical outcome. Many thanks to everyone involved.
overall a positive experience but i think a bit more time explaining time to heal, potential next steps would have given visit and treatment 5 stars
excellent hospital. Staff are very good as well
Extremely good facility.
Excellent staff in the Day Care Unit with friendly, caring and professional nurses and doctors. Clean and calm environment. The procedure I was about to undergo was explained more than once so I knew what to expect at every step. It might be difficult to find a parking place, but you can try the 2 hours free parking lots on Kennet Island.
My husband had two cataract operations and on both occasions received excellent care and attention from the surgeon, Miss Sarah Lucie Watson, and all her team. Everything was clearly explained so he had no worries, and the procedure was painless. He is very pleased with the result.
I had two private operations and the whole experience at Circle was impressive and friendly. The one criticism I would make is that the car park is usually full up.
Reading Hip and Knee Unit are a group of local orthopaedic surgeons who all their NHS practices at The Royal Berkshire Hospital. Privately they consult out of the 3 hospitals in Reading - Circle, Spire Dunedin and The Berkshire Independent.
My first operation was cancelled due to an organisational error. The stress of the event left me very anxious and uncertain. However I was readmitted within a couple of days and could not have had a better service.
The staff at all levels were kind, professional and respectful. The physiotherapists practical and reassuring. The Nurses Lettie, Goldie, Ben, Mae, Aggie to mention just a few showed just the right amount of humour and care.
The environment was cleaner and smarter than the Hilton across the road.
It's day three since my total knee replacement and I have been home a day already. Much to do I know but a very good start. Thank you so much.
All the staff I met were efficient, friendly and understanding.
Parking can be tricky allow plenty of time
A great place to work - get to collaborate with great colleagues who work together to continually improve and iterate the patient experience.
Saw consultant today he referred me for ultrasound I was instructed to take paperwork to radiology first thing I was asked by receptionist am I paying for my treatment I said no she replied that will be a six to seven week wait why was I asked this and why do I have to wait so long
Respectful, fast and treated extremely well. Best hospital in Reading to be seen.
Very quick and efficient minor procedure. Doctor and consultant very pleasant.
Fabulous, friendly staff; great facility, felt like I was in a hotel :-)
Have just had an appointment with a lovely lady called Heather she explained what she was doing and why
The hospital was very clean and staff very helpful
I chose circle reading due to the reviews, however, I am feeling a little deflated. I am an NHS patient and I wasn't aware that any operation needed funding had to be applied for. I was told today that not get the funding as they are not very supportive. I am in pain with my knee and even though I will require a knee replacement I am too young
I cant continue to be in pain and sick ot up till I reach the the required age. I now have to wait 4/6 weeks to see if they get the funding for my knee. I have actually burst in tears over this as I dont what to do if they cant do the operation. I was never made aware funding had to be applied for. However mu consultant is lovely and has been thorough about my knee and just hope they can do this operation.
Very comfortable, nice friendly staff, food good excellent experience altogether.
Communication could be improved: it took them 12 weeks to secure CCG funding (I was having NHS treatment), I had to phone at 6 and 12 weeks to request an update on progress; on booking into the hospital on the day of my op I was left alone for several hours and not informed what was happening; and after my op I was sent an incorrect follow-up appointment (3 weeks after it was due and no mention of the x-ray that was stipulated on the replacement appointment).
Asides from the communication and administration, the actual care I received was superb - great consultant/registrar, lovely nurses, great physio before & after the op. I would recommend Circle for this reason - you just need to be prepared to keep on top of the admin, chase them up if you hear nothing, be ready for a delay in CCG funding (I wasn't the only person at the hospital in this boat) and check that appointments are correct, etc - but these sorts of things seem to be a common problem at many hospitals, private or NHS.
GREAT EXPERIENCE EXCELLENT STAFF AND FOOD HAD TKR THE SURGEON DID A FANTASTIC JOB HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE
Not well organized re check in, location of doctors often a mystery, extremely limited re parking space.
The only downside is the parking is a bit of a challenge but everything else is great
Both surgical for my hip replacement with Mr. Tom Pollard and rehabilitation for three weeks brilliant. I had my op 29th January and I am now in Austria from 7th March skiing and enjoying my daughter’s wedding week.
Pleasant helpful staff. Clean environment
Excellent staff... friendly... efficient.
why do you not list on the internet your Reading phone number as shown in the phone book. It would appear that you find difficulty in finding a patient in residence when the 0800 number is used?
Facilites / staff all wonderful
Excellent care and experience!!
Excellent service from all hospital staff
Excellent service appalling parking
Fabulous staff and facilities
Always had great service there
A beautiful building with high class care.
Great service!
