Reviews of RSPCA Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue Centre
M. R.
Found a Hedgehog out in my garden in the daylight, didn't look very well I rang them and they said to bring it to them, lovely people took it in and told me it was suffering from mange and they would take it to the vet.All they ask for is a donation. Absolutely brilliant 👏
M. W.
Amazing place, they have taken in two juvenile hedgehogs we had our garden for the winter as they aren't big enough after so many places said they were full. They thanked me for taking them in, I'm certain it's the other way round! So happy to take them there and see they are in the best hands.
R. N.
Very nice place and great that they take in injured wildlife. Staff very good, caring and obviously dedicated to looking after the animals in their care.
Road leading to the centre (beyond the gate) could do with some maintenance. OK if you are in a tank though, you will hardly feel a bump!

Great medical advice on a redwing I found at our farm, who had been partially savaged by the cat. Unfortunately the young lady that helped us with the advice treated us as if we were stupid when we said it was a redwing. Suggested it was a starling. It was confirmed as a redwing via a reprentive of the RSPB, but I didnt wanna cause an issue. Maybe some extra training in bird identification and just in how to be polite... especially bearing in mind how rare redwings are!
S. C.
Called them about poorly fox cub in my garden, got volunteer driver/catcher out to help within a few hours. Unfortunately it managed to run off but great response from them. Always been very helpful whenever I have called in the past too.
M. M.
The lady was really helpful on the phone but when I got there I asked a lot of questions but the person who dealt with me couldn’t answer any of them 😞. I did receive a follow up call to say the hedgehog was doing well and weather I wanted to have it returned back to my garden 🥰
E. W.
Took a poorly pigeon to them after speaking to them about what to do. Pigeon didn't make it but they were so helpful. In fact they were the only people who did help.
J. T.
I took a sickly pigeon I found this afternoon to Oak and Furrows. The bird was alert but remained stationary in a strange sitting position. The team where very helpful and kind. They diagnosead a probable stomach condition. As a result I was told, that the bird would be treated and monitored immediately. Thank you for helping this lovely bird. I could have walked passed this bird with trying to help.

Take ripped up paper to help keep the hedgehogs warm this winter great place for looking after wildlife animals, just got back after collecting 3 hedgehogs, Lucy was very helpful also took them some more paper to keep the hogs warm. FANTASTIC WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTRE
I. D.
Dropped off a young infant squirrel we rescued from a cat, very friendly and caring people. Recommended

Apart from great difficulty finding the place, staff very helpful and took in our hedgehog. Hopefully he will recover soon and we can have him back in the Spring.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to share an afternoon at Oak and Furrows recent 'Open Day'. It was an inspiring, well-organized and family orientated event with animal welfare at its heart. The rescued and recuperating animals are well accommodated and caringly tended and monitored by both full-time and voluntary staff. The staff engage very readily with visitors of all ages and are so welcoming and informative. I'm sure to return many times. Highly recommended.
A. G.
Took this little guy in, hopefully makes a full recovery 👍

Absolutely fantastic place with dedicated people.
I run Cornpop Critter rescue in Frome.
I had an animal come in with specific needs that I could not meet, I did not have experience with this animal and it would not have been ethical for me to attempt trying to rehabilitate with no knowledge of the species.
I contacted these guys late at night to which they immediately came out to help and take this animal on.
The lady was polite, very professional and clearly shared the same passion for wildlife.
I cannot recommend these guys enough, very helpful, very informative and great people.
Thankyou.

Such great care and attention for a female hedgehog I brought in from Dauntsey. Vet visit and some grub and I was able to release it where it was found. Such an amazing resource for our local wildlife.
H. M.
Taken in my hedgehog Mr chips to help him through the winter. What stars they are.
P. B.
Great place, they really care for wild life and were happy for me to bring a nestling that I have found where others did not want to help, despite the fact that the bird was completely fine and only needed some care and attention.
L. B.
Lovely situation, staff are 100 percent there for the animals first and formost. Extremely efficient and does what a wildlife shelter needs to do
J. M. (.
Fantastic service and very thoughtful.
Would use again

Really cannot rate these guys highly enough.
When a mother hedgehog and five new born babies were 'relocated' by builders at the place I work, by the time I'd heard about it and gone to check on them, Mum had understandably deserted the babies leaving three of the dead bit two very much alive.
On the advice of a quick call to Mrs Tiggywinkles, I brought the two in and popped them into a towel and then onto a hot water bottle and the called a local, (not Oak and Furrow), Hedgehog rescue person who was five miles away to see if she would take them.
After waiting nearly two hours for that rescue person to arrive, when the 'rescuer' was unable to locate the Mother hedgehog with their dog (!), they then insisted to a colleague of mine that the babies be put back outside for "the Mother to return to them".
Being concerned that the babies wouldn't survive the numerous cats around nor the night time badgers I called Oak and Furrows to ask if it was right for them to have been put back outside.
The lovely lady I spoke to at Oak and Furrows spent a bit of time giving me some advice, which included retrieving the babies.
Sadly when I went to collect the two remaining babies, one of the was already stone cold and died a few minutes after I brought them in, however the other baby had sensibly crawled under the cover of the rapidly cooling hot water bottle and was still alive.
Despite Oak and Furrows being over 45 minutes drive away, they kindly sent someone to collect the one remaining and very lively baby.
I really can't thank the people at Oak and Furrows enough for being prepared to go to such lengths to keep one little baby hedgehog alive. I just wished I'd called them first!
Absolute gems.
E.
Took a 300 gr hedgehog to them, she was a really lovely lady who took Charlie in for me. They will keep Charlie till spring then I'll go and get him to release in the area he knows.

These lovely people do wonderful things for wildlife in danger. They are helping make amends for humans' impact on their environment. Please donate whatever you can: time or money are both much needed and greatly received.

The oak and furrow team are brilliant and caring and extremely friendly and helpful with the animals they care for, I actually have oak and furrow on speed dial die to the mice and bats etc my cats bring home and the staff are always polite xx

Wonderful place...an oasis of green tranquility!arrived to smiley people that allowed us to drive slowly past..&onto the centre, where we had bought my tiny hoglets for rehoming, away from a car park, city centre..all the appropriate precautions in place..and out popped a smiley, welcoming young lady that put our minds to rest,we were SO happy to leave them in her care, she was very reassuring that there were lots of people who were waiting to give help&homes to these sadly endangered, beautiful little creatures...(I owe them a thank you for helping me through the first weeks of the Corona crisis!)HUGE thank you to the staff, your work is invaluable,we will return to donate again as hopefully others will.
S. A.
This place is amazing for sick, injured animals. While I was in the treatment room, I witnessed an adorable baby rat being fed milk. The staff are mainly volunteers but are really experienced.
l. b.
Brought in a very poorly tawny owl earlier today.Serena talked through what could be wrong with the owl and explained possible outcomes. Serena then showed us around one of the barns which was full of hedgehogs. Serena showed such great compassion for all the wildlife in her care, I wouldn't hesitate recommending this rescue centre.
S. A.
Easy place to find. We found a hedgehog outside on the grass in daylight. We picked it up in a towel and popped him in a box. Took him along Nature Reserve. A member of staff took our hedgehog examined him, he was wounded. She cleaned him up, took our name and number, so hedgehog could be returned to us when better.
Also Oak n Furrows are crying out for old newspapers to have as bedding for animals.
S. C.
What a Lovely place.
The staff are amazing, friendly caring and very knowledgeable on the animals they are caring for. Please donate towels animal food, newspaper , money etc.
Thankyou to everyone who works there and cares for our wildlife.

I've just been to this amazing place and met some lovely, caring, fully committed people. I didn't want to go as i didn't want to give up my wild hoglet that I'd devoted my time and love to but very suddenly he, Spike was losing weight and though lively wasnt eating so off we went. Straight away i was welcomed by the team and Serens Williams who founded this centre.
they were terribly busy with 7 hedgehogs just arrived (to add to the 150 in residence) and an injured deer but immediately Spike was checked over put in a big snuggly blanket and treated for dehydration. I was reassured that he was in good hands and for once i totally trusted that they would do whatever was needed and best of all if he survives i get him back in the spring. If anyone out there cares for wildlife big or small please donate because it is unique place that is desperately needed. Lesley🐗🐗🐗🐗🐗

Not only do these volunteers do wonderful work, they also are very knowledgeable and welcoming. We saw foxes, hedgehogs, many different birds, mice and a mole! Leave your car at the gate and walk or drive, but shut the gate behind you.
