Reviews of Belfast International Youth Hostel
We greatly appreciated the courteous demeanor of the staff. Additionally, the beds were exceptionally comfortable, complemented by immaculate duvets and towels. The bathroom was both spacious and impeccably maintained. Furthermore, the kitchen was well-equipped, featuring all the essential amenities. Last but not the least, the prime central location of the stay makes it a budget friendly convenient stay.
Now, coming to the downside. Well, there ain't many. But the room heater operated on specific timers and was only active until 11 PM during the night. Visiting during the December winter, we found it slightly chilly late at night. Additionally, the tap water appeared to lack clarity.
As a 62 year old woman travelling alone, I had never stayed in a youth hostel till I came here. Have now stayed 3 times. Its clean, comfortable, friendly with great amenities and a great cafe next door. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Belfast now.
Clean and friendly! It was also quiet at night, even with the pub across the street. Not in the greatest location for the things we wanted to do, but don't mind a little walk. Only issue with the room was that the shower didn't drain very quickly. I would have to be very fast so the water didn't spread all over the bathroom floor.
Other than that, I recommend this place!
1 plug in a stupid location for 4 people
No soap or towels
No safe
Great location but there are other budget hotels/hostels nearby too.
You'd think it's 'cheap' to stay in a hostel, but no. Sure, the nightly rate might be considered cheap but given all the restrictions the hostel has set, it appears to be quite expensive, considering that we even got an ensuite.||WiFi has very limited access--I can't even access Outlook, no access to YouTube and several other 'basic' sites. You can't even send nor receive photos on some messaging apps, can't see the gifs, can't upload photos even on here. The WiFi in restaurants are way better.||Everything else has limited time: use of Kitchen, heating, hot water, etc. You only discover this once you check in. I'm posting the photos of their signs. We’ve stayed in several other hostels in the past, and it’s not like this.||No towel and toiletries--although this is indicated when you book. Even then, you'd think that if you're booking an ensuite, that's the least they'll provide, but no.||The design of the shower and toilet is bad. You'd get everything wet, and they don't even have any bath mat. If you ask for one, they'd give you a towel. Thankfully, for free. But if you ask for a new one because the other one just got soaking wet, they won't give you another one to replace it.||Some staff members are not friendly nor accommodating at all.||Location is pretty central--that's probably the only positive thing that can be said of them. But there are many other accommodations in the centre. You're better off paying a bit more and booking with them!||Don't think twice! It's just horrible.
Not bad but not great. No attractive friendly/social facilities and whole building needs some character (and a coat of paint). This is a great, unique city but in the hostel it feels like you could be in anywhere.
Cheap and cheerful as you'd expect from a hostel. I stayed in a twin double room which was a bit tired and Spartan but again to be expected with a hostel. Staff were friendly and it is well situated with an excellent cafe next door. A pub, convenience store and bus tour companies are all on your doorstep. If you just want somewhere to get your head down and showered in the morning without breaking the bank this is a great option.
Stayed in a twin room, good enough for price paid. Only negatives had to keep window open at all times as there was no Aircon, and got woken up early because of the busy noisy road our room was facing on.
Nice for the price, and the location also good, close to the city center. But all equipments look old. There is no washbasin in shared toilets. The push tap faucet in the room only works for about 10s once, then you need to press it again.
Good location with no curfew, ideal for the city centre. Rooms were basic but clean and there are plenty of bathrooms, which were a bit dated but fine to use. There is a kitchen with free hot drinks - nice touch. Finally the reception staff were really helpful and made us feel welcome.
Not a social hostel but a great cheap option in a safe and central area of Belfast. The bunk room we stayed in was up to standard (having a sink in the room was great) and there was ample bathroom facilities close by down the hallway. Welcoming and accomodating staff.
No proper kitchen although plenty of restaurant options nearby, wifi is turned off overnight which can be annoying depending on your schedule. I would really recommend this hostel to anyone backpacking or on a budget. We stayed for 4 nights while in town for a music festival.
Rooms are small with only two sockets, bunk beds are narrow and heating only comes on at certain hours of the day. No en suite bathroom and share showers and toilets with the floor. Good location near shops and city centre. Showers are hot but turn off every 10 seconds or so, so have to keep pressing button to start it again. Reception workers are friendly and helpful. Cafe is very good lots of options of good food.
Stayed here, as recommended by a friend.
Very quick check in service and friendly staff on arrival.
£5 deposit is required for each room key, but this is given back to you, when you check out.
We had 2 rooms on the 3rd floor, 1 double and one single, the rooms are ideal for what you want and need, the beds are very comfortable and both had orthopaedic mattresses, you only get one pillow, but I am sure if you ask at reception they will give you another one.
The bathrooms are very spacious and functional, as they are wet rooms, the shower takes some adjusting, as the shower head is so close to the wall.
Towels are provided at reception, however they aren't huge, so you may wish to take your own with you.
Doors are clocked in the evening, so you have to buzz to be let in and they check your room key, so you have to be a guest to come in after a certain time.
There are tables and chairs throughout reception, where guests can sit and eat and drink .
Hot water is available, however this is only available during certain times, posters are hung up, so that you know.
Pub crawl tours are available from here.
There is a pub opposite and a company doing tours in and around Belfast.
It is about a 10-15 minutes walk into the centre of town, so pubs, restaurants and shops are all within easy access.
There are 2 bars, (laverys & Benedict's), a pizza & kebab shop and a KFC within 1000 yards.
If you're planning on being out most of the day exploring the city, this is an idea base.
Hostel was so accommodating through the group booking process, so helpful, and a brilliant location, with good facilities and good value for money!
Thank you so much, especially to David, we all had a brilliant stay, definitely recommend this hostel!!!
The hostel is near the city center. There is a well equipped kitchen and the clean in general is ok. My room had a sink and that's very comfortable, the beds are comfortable too and the room was hot enough. The only problem was that there were only 2 plug-in for charge the phones in a six bedroom! Very annoying. Annoying also that the plug-in were very far from all the beds. I couldn't charge my phone. The staff seems very cordial and kind. There are mainly 2 rooms were you can chill out. A library and a TV room (the couches were a bit old). The Wi-Fi was a bit slow.
Stayed one night for a gig in the Telegraph, room was fine and done the trick for one night stay, not too far to walk into the city centre.
Bit rough in the immediate area, but once your not stupid you should be fine.
Would stay again (please bring your own towel and shower gel as they are not supplied)
Fairly good hostel. Clean and secure. Excellent staff that are very helpful. 4xbed rooms with on-suite are great, with good storage. 6x room has different beds with broken storage cages under each one. Recommend getting the 4 bed room if you can.
The rooms were alright. The windows aren't great for sound though so you can hear loud noises from outside at 2:00 am. Not so great if you need to wake up early. No Wi-Fi available in the rooms themselves. There's a bathroom and shower for every 4 people so there's always one available. The kitchen is not always accessible, so you'll need to plan accordingly. Staff were friendly.
23 person female I thought will be noisy and crown before. But in fact it is big room like 5 rooms. Roommates are very nice. We have 3 toilets and 3 shower rooms in the room. Everything are good. Unless we can use wifi beside 0 floor only. Great surprise.
Spot on place for solo travellers. Female only dorm is valued. Clean, great kitchen. And good rooms.
One of the most vibrant and buzzing hostels I stayed at. The staff is really friendly and you can also take tours to giants causeway departing from the hotel. Overall great neighbourhood with lots of restaurants and pubs. Only problem is that you can't take food to your room. But overall it was great!
Good experience here - very helpful and welcoming staff on arrival, room and showers/toilets were basic but acceptable for price. Really good cafe attached which had great range/value of food/drinks. Really good location and car park which was a huge bonus! Good value for money, would stay again.
This is a good hostel, it is 15 minutes walking from city center, they have a free parking space in case you get there by car, common areas, kitchen and laundry room,
Rooms are clean and tidy, but there are not towels (I don't know if you can rent one)
The common areas are full of people using WIFi (WIFI signal is not good in the rooms)
Some of these people put their naked feet on the tables which is a bit unpleasant.
Staff are very nice, we needed to print our boarding passes and they pronted for us. (thanks)
Nice location, really nice and friendly staff. Okay its basic but the comfy bed more than made up for that. I had an ensuite in a private room at an excellent price. I've had such a good experience that I'm coming back again next year,
Good location close to train stations and my destination for a weekend trip. Particular praise to the staff who were highly accommodating and very kind.
Great location - town hall is just a short walk away and theres a fantastic bar (Lavery's) just on the end of the street. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and security at night was good. Room was very basic but pretty standard for a hostel. only downside was water temperature was a little low at busy times other than that waould happily stay again
Staff 10/10.. cleanliness 10/10. Only stayed for one night but what struck me the most was the friendly and very helpful and witty staff! Shower was been hot and the room were clean, overall a good experience and I would return
Our experience here was quite good. The staff was friendly and the place was quite fresh. It is possible to buy breakfast at the cafe next door which was very much worth it. Their is WiFi but most of the popular apps such as Spotify, YouTube and Netflix are blocked which makes you wonder why they even offer WiFi. The location is quite good as well, it is a short walk to the city centre and there is a lot of restaurants nearby. There's also free parking.
One of the best Hostels I have stayed in. Very clean, organised, friendly places to stay. I've stayed here twice 10 years ago and we had a family room with ensuite. Fantastic when u have a young child. We stayed again this year with my partner, my son & his girlfriend. Perfect location, delicious breakfast. Looking forward to staying there again
Got in late and left early, but the seventeen bed dorm was one of the better smelling ones I've stayed in. A bit of an outlet shortage, so you might have to charge your phone before you get to sleep, if you're using it for an alarm and don't want to leave it sitting across the room. Good company, too.
Free WiFi and a great cafe downstairs, nice staff, clean & comfy rooms, great prices, self-catering kitchen with lots of tags to mark your food as yours, what else could you want? Plus the cafe does a great lunch to go meal in a brown paper bag with: a drink, a fruit, and yogurt cup, crisp bag, muffin, chocolate bar, and freshly made sandwich that has 2 ingredients of your choice (plus mayo and/or butter). Only 5.50.
Best accomodation in the City. 100%. Affordable, safe, clean.
Probably one of my favourite Hostels in Belfast. Clean and affordable. Its nothing fancy but its very secure and safe. Good little cafe down the bottle and wifi. (this turns off at 11pm at night in the dorms).
Will stay here again if visiting Belfast. Good for budget traveller. It has Cafe downstairs that has serve awesome food! Affordable price. And halal chicken breast meat option for sandwich. Kitchen is good if you want to cook your own meal. Took McComb's coach tours from this Hostel. It has been a pleasant stay.
A great place to stay, I would highly recommend. Friendly staff, luggage storage for free and easy checkin. The access card gives you access to the lifts and your room, but there is no security on the external door until late at night. WiFi available on the ground floor was good and easy to log on to
Price was very reasonable and the location is convenient although we were in a room of 4 with only two plugs and noise in the corridors felt like it was coming from inside the room, so sleeping was not great! Nevertheless it's alright for a short stay in Belfast and the bar downstairs compensates for it with some awesome breakfast
A good place to stay for one or two nights. The staff service is great but the facilities are not that relevant. It is an old place but it works. You have what you need, nothing else. Good option if you are looking for something basic and affordable but in a good location.
One of best I've ever stayed in! Good location near city centre, railway and bus stations. Good facilities, nice relaxed atmosphere. SPOTLESSLY CLEAN! Lovely staff - very helpful. Do try this hostel!
Hostel is very close to city centre, easy to find, very big shared kitchen, the cafe have a good breakfast. The mattress of the bed I stayed needs a new one. No sockets near beds.
Hi.
It was a very good stay in one of the best hostels I've used in my travellings. Normal place, staff very helpful, a very good kitchen, all that is basic, no more, no less.
Ideal for the ones who, like me, wanted to have a look in town and move on.
Regards, dforjaz
If you put aside the prison sized room we had and the fact that WiFi was not reaching our room, it was a nice experience. Ps: I have no idea why we got the room with bunk beds as I have booked for a double bed ( for Hubby and I ) but wasn’t hustled to fight for a better one. I don’t think I would choose the same place again.
Customer Service Review 🥰
Half way through our tour of Ireland and Northern Ireland it got cancelled because of everything that is going on with COVID-19. We as a group were left in Dublin for us to chose to go home or wait until our flights. As a group we decided we still wanted to see what we could of Belfast the very next morning. As it was going by UK laws and regulations nothing had been shut down yet, unfortunately for Phil at this hostel we called about 30 times to get help and ask a million questions as it was such last minute planning and the eve of St Paddy's day. We're we to go and stay and party there or stay in Dublin and get the bus in the morning, we asked everything possible and seriously called way too many times, which to our surprise Phil was actually so understanding and helpful through out the whole process.. We can't thank him enough as I'm sure we would have drove him nuts that night.. But he did give the best advice, we took it and had the best day we could possibly have with everything that was happening around the world. We couldn't have asked for anything more for our last day.. We appreciated it so much..
The hostel is in a great location, just 10 minutes away from the Europa Bus Centre. It's also near to many food establishments. Notably KFC is on the same street. For those who want to cook, Tesco express is a short walk away. However, the street the hostel faces can be quite noisy at night as clubbers or drunkards make lots of noise. There are sufficient number of toilets and showers on each floor.
Rooms have been what we needed for our stay, exceptional service with each request we had from every staff member we have had to interact with during our short weekend in Belfast
Stayed here 2 nights. Staff very friendly and helpful. Clean and hot showers. Breakfast was fantastic. Very good value for money.
Room wasn't really warm, plugs placed randomly around the room and the lockers were stacked in corner between the beds so it's hard to access them. Shower in room but together with toilet so if someone takes long shower, you have to look for toilet somewhere else. Basically OK for staying just for one night to sleep.
Central location in Belfast. Not too expensive. Clean, tidy and quiet. Secure parking. Causeway cafe next door which does a brilliant selection of breakfasts and lunches.
Nice and close place to the main streets in Belfast. The only trouble was the insufficient area covered with wifi. Great environment and a kind front desk members.
Nice place with good quality-price rate for backpacker and travellers, well located. Good service, specially loved the breakfast. Although I would like better showers
+ free luggage storage on the day of checkout
+lockers are there in the room
+ economical option compared to other hostels, I paid 32 GBP for twin room on 1 Oct 2019
+ multiple breakfast options at okay price in their in-house causeway café
+ nicely decorated lobby area near reception with good seating arrangements
+ nice Wi-Fi connection in rooms
+ laundry price is 4 GBP and it includes detergent, washing and drying
+ 10 min walking to bus station
- After 11 pm check-in might be difficult as the main door is locked and you need to ring the door bell and hope that someone comes and open the door
- showers are poor with water clogging and piling up on the bathroom floor
- some rooms are noisy due to vehicles on nearby roads
- small rooms like a typical college hostel
- charging sockets are there in the room but no socket is there near beds
The hostel offers basic accomodation, a snack in the morning ( croissants and coffee ). As a suggestion: they should add more furniture in the rooms, perhaps a table and some chairs.
A good overall experience price:quality wise. Make sure to ask if you have a bathroom in your room as some rooms have and others don't.
I had a really good experience here. Nice and quiet at night. If WiFi extended to the rooms it would get 5 stars from me.
Small rooms, but the bigger issue was that Wi-Fi turned off at a certain time of night for some unknown reason. Location makes up for it by being only two or three blocks from just about anything you could need.
Value for money, amazing location, walking distance to Botanic Gardens, Queens University, Europa Hotel, Europa Bus Station, Belfast City Hall and Great Victoria Street, the causeway cafe was really cute and adorable as well, Belfast <3 :)
Average hostel, good shared facilities like lounge and kitchen, helpful staff.
Nice to have a secure car park as well.
Great location, friendly staff. Breakfast not included but cafe adjacent served delicious full Irish and continental options - for around £5.
awesome place to stay! the reception is very friendly! the room was also very tidy and clean!
Rooms and showers are ok. Price is also quite good. Cafeteria is really bad and expensive. Wifi is not available in the rooms.
It’s bit big if you’re trying to find something cosy buy it’s fine. And great if you’re a young partier.
The coffee place downstairs is really cheap and good as well.
Well done but too big!
Good location. Rooms are correct for the price. Not too noisy. Good breakfasts at the coffe downstairs!
Friendly and safe but a bit out of date and unclean (hair in sink and shower etc). Would definitely stay again - cafe is very good at good prices
The BIYH was very clean and I had a comfortable stay. I enjoyed the food from the cafe and I must admit that the chai latte there was one of the best I've ever had!
The staff are amazing, and it’s such good value for money - couldn’t have asked for anything better!
Cheap and cheerful hostel in a decent location. Good value, tasty breakfasts and friendly staff. Everything the travel on the cheap needs.
One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast restaurant was one of the best I've ever experienced.
Could do with a humidifier in the room. Comfy beds, very clean. Quite sparse but what do you expect from a hostel?
Nice place, very well located, good wifi, practical. we appreciated our stay with our 2 teenagers
Excellent self catering kitchen, very friendly and helpful staff. Well placed for a fifteen minute walk to the centre of town.
Showers are inconvenient, nowhere dry to put clothes or towels. Otherwise, place is simple but clean and comfortable
Amazing hospitality, rooms are spotless and comfy beds at an amazing price, definitely will be returning.
If need somewhere just put head down and very basic near town this is place.
Just get up early to get into bathrooms before young girls 😆 or ye been waiting a very long time ⌛️
The hostel is near the center. Easy travel. OK rooms has locker but don't rely on them.
Clean good WiFi great customer service ..central ..pick up point for tours and can book tours from there ..brilliant cafe with great staff and prices ..very helpful people
