We recently had our wedding at The Plough & Harrow, we where looking for a central location that everyone would easily be able to get to. The Plough & Harrow was perfect for this, it was intimate, had a great vibe along with lovely function rooms.
The hotel manager Emma was amazing, she went above and beyond, helping with every little question and request I had - which you do as a bride planning a wedding! and really put my mind at ease that everything was under control and taken care of. The staff where warm, friendly and very accommodating.
They have a wide variety of wedding packages and food options available and the food we chose to have was amazing! Everyone loved it.
I can not recommend this hotel and it’s staff enough.

The hotel needs some major refurbishment. The main house is glorious but the back end rooms have seen better days. It is clean and functional but the beds were lumpy.

There was 12 of us stayed here 1 night after a family get together in Cadburys World (well worth a visit).
This could be a great hotel but sadly Best Western has let it decline. There is obviously a shortage of staff. Those who work here were fantastic and couldn't do enough, sadly the fixtures and fittings are well in decline. There is no evening meal here and the bar closes at 10pm. It's not always manned due to staff shortage.
Breakfast was good, but £8 to park overnight was a bit much. Rooms were large but heating problems, fixtures and fittings problems let it down. Not Recommended.

My daughter and I didn't get there until late at night but the staff were so lovely and took the time to chat and make us feel welcome. Special thanks to the lovely Bradley serving behind the bar. We hope to see you again as we will definitely stay there!! Jacqui and Abbie.

We were a family of 10, 4 adults and 6 children. This hotel couldn’t of accommodated us more. Fantastic rooms with great facilities. Lovely breakfast and nothing was to much trouble. A special mention to Emma the hotel manager, Emma was so lovely and made us feel very welcome. Emma stored our bikes for us overnight and suggested a great restaurant a few minutes walk away. Great hotel 😃

This was a lovely hotel. clean rooms, no probs with hot water or radiators. I really liked the breakfast. the sausage was so nice and black pudding and scrambled egg!!! a few buses stop nearby and I slept well in the bed. I was in room 208 which the only flaw with is you get lost with all the corridors trying to find it. And if you have a weak bladder could be bad.
I would stay again 😀

The hotel is actually rather nice, our room was clean tidy and spacious. It was a wedding that day and the boom boom music went until till midnight with the doors to the outside area directly opposite our room, open we had no chance of sleeping until it until it was over. I do feel they should have put us in a room further away from the function as we were not with the wedding party. Breakfast was a disaster. There were only two staff in the dining area who were trying very hard to serve everybody and cook. A 100-percent management failure. The management should have ensured there were enough staff to cater for the hotels guests, There was not even anyone on reception . We have stayed in best Western hotels all over the UK and this is the first time I've ever had a complaint about them
B. G.
Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom could have been a lot cleaner (executive room 116), breakfast was poor quality, complained to the manager and was told I'd be refunded the cost on checking out (we'll see) ,I was told as soon as we checked in that we had to pay for the parking as we'd booked through Booking.com and not directly to Best Western, pleasant staff
P. B.
This is a budget hotel 🏨 in covid times, so we had a great stay. The old building is a delight. The rooms in the new part are a good size and the beds big and comfortable. If you are picky they are a bit tired but still look good. Breakfast is clearly a struggle, but the fried eggs and scrambled eggs were cooked to order.
It's good to have parking and you could walk to the centre, university etc.

Absolutely fantastic experience I will recommend this place beautiful buildings lovely interior the staff is very accommodating and helpful
I wouldn't hesitate to stay again

Just had a great stay here, considering how close to Birmingham city centre the hotel is, it was so quiet and comfortable! The room was really clean and the bed was really comfortable which is so important for my wife who who has limited mobility. The breakfast was great and the staff worked really had to make our stay as good as possible. We'll definitely stay there again!

Lovely hote l was at a wedding it was beautiful. The people who work there were excellent will make sure that I tell all my friends so we can go back?
D. S.
The staff were very welcoming, polite and friendly. The car park is close to reception, but you may have quite a walk to your room from your car. Also, book direct to get the car park free. The original building exterior is lovely, but the rest of the hotel is in need of updating.
A. M.
Staff lovely, helpful and welcoming. Room, great size and comfortable Reception area very nice. Breakfast was disappointing. Cold plates, toaster not working, bacon very fatty, luke warm coffee, stone cold by the time I came to sit down and eat.
A. v. O.
Cozy hotel with good rooms and beds. Breakfast was good but I prefer more international food as example ham and bacon. Friendly staff, good beers and ciders.
E. P.
Good hotel to stay out of the centre in Birmingham. It is not a modern hotel as the decor is old fashion. It was very clean and comfortable. We took taxis to go to the centre and cost around £8 on way.
M. E.
Very helpful staff. Clean room. Hearty breakfast.
R. A.
What a great place , rooms are clean large and comfy, the food is cooked to perfection and the same for breakfast , nice to have parking on site to. Stayed here again and all perfect . All staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly.

We stayed at The Plough and Harrow Christmas Eve and Christmas Day night. We booked a group of 14 of our family for Christmas Day lunch. What a fabulous experience we had, all the staff had beaming smiles, from front desk through to bar and waiting staff. They were excellent, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they made our stay and our family Christmas Day wonderful. Part of the building is old and full of charm and character with an added newer extension to the rear. The rooms, hallways, bathrooms are clean and the bedding fresh. We were to be late back to the hotel on Christmas Eve and had asked if we could have sandwiches to our room, nothing was too much trouble. The chef who cooked the meal on Christmas Day was extremely thoughtful and had catered very well for us, when he finished his shift we all gave him a well deserved cheer! When booking our family event we dealt with Emma who again we could not fault, warm, friendly and down to earth, understood our needs for the day and helped us cater for the younger members of our family. The breakfast was excellent value for money and did in no way fall short again with a lovely lady who served us. We have stayed in Birmingham on many occasions and this was our first time at the Plough and Harrow, it is not so much the place you stay, its the people who work there, the staff and their Management understand its all about old fashioned service with a smile. A well deserved many thanks to you all, we would not hesitate to recommend you.

A decent Best Western hotel with nice rooms and very friendly staff.

Staff went above and beyond to be helpful.
I had never stayed in this area before and when asked for assistance it was given with a smile!
Valentina at reception gave me perfect directions to my destination and one of the barmen gave me a top choice for a takeaway. Restaurant looked very good but as a single female traveller I did not want to have dinner on my own.
I did sit in the beautiful bar area and was lucky enough to have a guest tickling the ivories on the grand piano there. Very relaxing!
My room was spacious, spotless and I slept for 9 solid hours! Obviously very comfortable!
Cooked breakfast was made to order and continental breakfast available in a buffet style. A great choice of breakfast to suit any palate.
Parking not a problem.
I'm going back next week and looking forward to my stay!
K. F.
The hotel is tired but was very clean with updates that have been put in, the staff were fantastic and the the lady who was the manager was fantastic from when we arrived Friday at 4pm to when we left Saturday at 11am, would use again when I go back to watch the cricket £50 for room and breakfast.
C. B.
Very welcoming and helpful staff and clean rooms. Even accommodated us for afternoon tea for four people at short notice even though we seemed to be pressured and hurried to pay without being asked if we needed anything else. Overall though highly recommended 🙂
D. B.
Really lovely hotel, love the style of the hotel. Staff are brilliant, really helpful. Lovely breakfast. Rooms really clean. Close to all amenities.
D. S.
Good food. Great service. Reasonable prices. Lovely ambience.
J. C.
Gorgeous afternoon tea. Such a warm welcome on arrival. Kalia the young lady who waited on us was wonderful. Very attentive and fresh tea was plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble. She even asked if we would like a photo taken. All home made cakes and scones. Lovely fresh sandwiches. We decided to go into the bar to enjoy some Prosecco. Thoroughly enjoyable relaxing time 🤩
S.
Easy to find, main bud route on the main road, lovely and quiet.
Staff very friendly, couldn’t have done any more to help.
A little dated with the decor but it’s a very old building.
M. S.
The room was large and the bed comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and polite. They made sure we could check in early as we needed to change for a wedding. Down before breakfast started - no problem, coffee offered on terrace. Food was excellent, location good . The hotel also has a lot of free parking. Would highly recommend
C. G.
Lovely staff. Clean, comfortable rooms. Good breakfast. Meals reasonably priced. Christmas decorations cheered me right up and Tolkien stayed here in 1916 - what more could you want?
N. H.
Great decor, extremely helpful and friendly staff. Definitely worth the visit and will surely visit again. Breakfast was great, and lots of options. We got a really big room where they laid out the sofa as a bed too. The view was nice overlooking the garden. David was very helpful and took our bags through the maze of corridors to our room. The location was fantastic as it was only 10 minutes from Cadbury World which we was well worth the visit.
S. W.
I took my best friend for afternoon tea as a birthday treat. The service was very pleasant but the food, although of good quality left me wanting more which is unusual, in my experience, for afternoon teas. The biggest disappointment was that they'd run out of decaf tea!! How does this happen at an establishment that has guests staying for breakfast?!?!
We were served 3 finger sandwiches, scone with cream and jam plus 3 of the tiniest cakes you ever did see. No extras to take home for the folks at home.
J. B.
The main hotel building is an impressive Victorian one, but most of the rooms are in an annexe. It is quite confusing to find your room, through a maze of meandering corridors, and there is no lift.
However, the staff are great and the food is very good. Our orders in the restaurant were rather slow, but we can only assume this because everything is freshly cooked to order.
Altogether we had a great stay in a quiet and comfortable room and the hotel is on a direct bus route into the city.
H. D.
Pretty building. Interior is nice. But a very very long walk to the rooms. The suits are nearer to the entrance. Seems like only one door except fire doors obviously. Lots of stairs. Can tell about the age of the building. Otherwise storage in the room and a kettle. No fridge or microwave etc.
J. W.
It took roughly a 15 minutes walk to the bullring. Perfect distance if you want a place to relax away from the busy rush of the center. The hotel was warm and the receptionists were friendly. The room was lovely, the only suggestion I'd make is for them to update their windows, as I'm sure there was a cold breeze coming from them. We would definitely stay here again.
E. L.
Lovely settings, beautiful building. Wonderful decor. Reception staff are really helpful, check in was quick, parking was great.
The cold tap runs hot, so when you go for a shower you will need to be Daenerys to stand it.
Breakfast serving was slow, they hold the coffee to ransom, I ended up locating the coffee pot and helping myself.
I stay at alot of hotels and this one is great value for money.
D.
Great atmosphere. Very helpful and nice staff! And the room is just what you'd expect. Only downside is that the shower is too close to the wall and a little too low for a Dutchman. The bath makes up for that tho!
Would definitely recommend!!!
Also Tolkien stayed here a long time back
K. B.
Enjoyed our stay. Staff very very friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious, clean and tidy. Close proximity to central Birmingham and the taxi ride with Uber was averaging 4-5 pounds. Breakfast buffet was a mix of continental and British foods e.g. pastries, cereals, toast, coffee/tea, OJ, cheeses and meats, and muffins. Good variety of herbal and green teas but black coffee wasn’t pleasant. Every staff member makes you feel welcome and greet you with a genuine smile which is nice. We stayed in the rear wing of the building which wasn’t of the same decor as the front, but was still pleasant.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, enjoyed a good beer at the bar and was provided with very good customer service. I will be looking to stay here again.
P. R.
A nice hotel with good facilities. Reasonable area. Built around 1700 with some nice historical past including a King Edward viii chair and associations with J R Tolkien who stayed here.
We were a little disappointed though as we booked a family room but got a double. Not our fault. The member of staff at the check out was extremely efficient and helpful and managed to get room changed for following night. Gold star to her. The manager the following evening was also very apologetic. However the senior staff person previously had said he didn't think it was an issue and told the very lovely receptionist that we should have just all squeezed into one bed! That person does not get any thanks or praise as that's absolutely not the way to treat guests at all!!!
J. R.
The hotel looks lovely and has some very nice areas. The bedroom was very big and a great comfy bed. The reason I can't come back is the trek to the bedroom. Up stairs, down stairs, along long corridors. With my bad knees it was too uncomfortable to do more than once so I called room service for dinner and checked out on my way to breakfast. The food was excellent and breakfast service was brilliant.
Z.
Great location just outside the city centre. Very spacious rooms and fantastic value. Good check in and checkout times and very chic interior in the communal areas. Highly recommend this hotel for your stay
M. B.
Approx. 14 attended your event night of the 70’s and 80’s disco for my sister’s birthday the waitress were excellent and served in a timely manner. The food was very good, served hot and when additional butter was needed it came to the table promptly. Drinks could be ordered at the table. Hotel and staff very accommodating when seeing to all other guests and our party of 14+.
Room and dinner table was set out lovely and the event was not over booked which was great.
Ample of parking and very close to the City Centre of Birmingham.
C. P.
I stayed here for two night's while on a training course. There is plenty of parking and check in was quick. The room was a good size but quite dated with tired furniture, carpet & curtains. The en-suite looked as if it had been recently refurbished and was very nice. Black & white tiles, underfloor heating, rain forest shower. Even though the hotel was close to the main road it was very quiet.
L. S.
Decent hotel. Not bad for a lads night out in Birmingham. Within walking distance to Broad Street. Friendly and helpful staff, nice bar area and free parking. It wasn't too expensive either at £75 for one night.
On the downside there was a sock in our room, just poking out from under the bed. This makes me doubt whether the cleaner even bothered with our room. The shower wasn't up to scratch either, the water just about dribbled from the showerhead.
I'd stay again just for the price and location. Next time I hope to get a room that's been cleaned properly and it has a decent shower.
A. P.
Clean, friendly hotel. A little dated.
N. F.
Would have liked a drink at the bar, but it was closed on Sundays. Not so much a great western more a Welsh chapel sun down.
K. J.
Got married here on Saturday our guests loved the venue as much as we did. All the staff were brilliant and went the extra mile but a special thanks to Saul (I hope I've remembered his name right) as he looked after us all day! Thank you all for making our day so perfect.
Love Mr and Mrs Jones xxx

Comfortable night's sleep, hotel very clean and attentive staff. Not serving food due to Covid so are locally at The Highfield, which was amazing
K. F.
First visit to the Plough and Harrow to attend our neighbours' wedding. The hotel is quiet despite being on a busy road, comfortably decorated and welcoming. The function room is well appointed and bright with a large pleasant verandah and garden outside. All food and service was very good, as were drinks. Staffing levels were good and very friendly whilst completely professional. Overall very impressed.

Great place to stay,. We were visiting Legoland Discovery centre, and walked from here in less than 20 minutes. Room was great easily big enough for the 4 of us, well cleaned and ground floor was accessible with a push chair. Lovely view out over the garden and away from the busy road. Breakfast was really good in the morning, served from 7 till 9, we turned up at 8:20 add was plenty of room,. Food and service was very good.
H. W.
Went for afternoon tea on a Friday afternoon. Staff were lovely and bery attentive. Restaurant was like a barn, it was so cold. Not many people in there either, so not much atmoshere, which couldn't be helped. Although all food was nice, the sanwiches were not finger sandwiches as stated on the menu and all still had crusts on!! Cakes a bit on the meagre side as got the feeling they had been cut in 2!
A. N.
Absolutely awesome place.
Traditional surroundings and lovely helpful and kind staff.
My elderly father loves the place.
A local gem for us!
I have never stayed at the hotel so cannot comment on their rooms however.
It is mainly the surorundings and the bar that we make use of.
H. C.
Only stayed for one night. Comfortable beds and quite a large room, with a clean ensuite. Very friendly staff (especially the night porter) and the food options seemed good, although I wasn't able to try it. A few issues are the rather old-looking cupboards that are hard to open, using the guest phone to reach people, and the fact that some rooms are very far away from the reception (not an easy walk for people with lots of luggage)
J. C.
Staff at the Plough and Harrow were unfailingly courteous and efficient , helping us arrange a “ funeral tea” for a largish number of people from different backgrounds.
The bar and dining room are very attractive, furnished sympathetically for the style of the hotel and well maintained. Comfortable and very pretty.
The buffet was replenished as necessary and the scones with cream absolutely delightful!
Thank you P&H ,you made a difficult day just lovely.
S. H.
We arrived prior to the usual booking in time. The receptionist was amazing, ensuring we gained early access to our room so that we could change before attending our daughters graduation.
The fabulous room was a little hot though.
G. V.
Brilliant service by the lovely silver haired waitress. The afternoon tea sandwiches were going hard so wasn't fresh the cakes were delicious tho. The furniture needs refurbishing as started to look very worn
t. h.
Oh my. This hotel is a must! Lovely surroundings the room was spacious with all amenities. The staff were helpful and friendly. We had breakfast which was wonderful. Would stay again 🤗
T. R.
Really good hotel. Beautiful building, with lots of charm. One thing is taking the last star, is the temperature inside rooms, pretty warm, good for winter, but less comfortable over the warm summer. I am recommending it for everyone.
J. M.
The venue is easy to get to, they have a large car park which is secure. The afternoon tea is good with a great selection of sandwiches cake, the warm scones, jam and cream are yummy. The funtion rooms are very comfortable and cosy and Victorian.
E.
A lovely, well maintained hotel. Staff were friendly, polite and professional and the vegan afternoon tea was lovely. We will definitely be returning.
C. S.
We stayed this weekend, with the Cadbury Wirkd deal that they do. We were extremely happy, comfortable and impressed by the service. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds were extremely comfortable, even our kids said that it was one of the best night's sleep they'd ever had. The breakfast was amazing, with plenty of choice, and we overheard several specialist requests from other guests, and the staff were more than happy to oblige. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Birmingham
J. H.
Stayed here for work night out in Birmingham. Reasonable price when booked. Bar was nice but rooms and extention need updating/decorating/sorting. Our twin room had no main light so had light from doorway and bathroom to get ready in. Staff abrupt and not friendly or welcoming. There were clearly other issues through the hotel as I arrived to a lady asking for a refund or she would take the hotel to small claims court.
J. S.
Lovely hotel, large rooms, comfortable bed and lots of parking. Breakfast room was large with a table overlooking the garden. There was a wedding on the night we stayed but didn't hear any noise and had a great night's sleep. Just move it slightly closer to the town centre!!
T. J.
Lovey looking hotel. Had afternoon tea with some friends of mine that was half price. I definitely wouldn't have paid full price as we had to ask for tea and coffee, the bread and macaroons were stale and we hardly saw any staff once we had the trays brought out.
D. M.
Lovely hotel, very friendly staff who went out of their way to help. Fab room, very pleasantly surprised at the size and decor. Would definitely stay again. Thank you for looking after us.
K. D.
Attended my nieces wedding here which was great a fantastic ceremony. The food was good but some of the staff were so impolite at times. Didn't stay overnight so can't comment on rooms
D. G.
Staff were polite, well mannered and very good. Room was clean with nice showers, the décor was quite plain but amicable, would have liked to have a biscuit with my tea left in the room.
Food was not great but very acceptable.
Location was good, perfect car parking. Overall good value for money.
T. W.
It must have been great in its prime, when it was popular and before the advent of budget hotels.
A period building now looks dated and sprawling with a rabbit warren of corridors and staircases.
No elevator and not much in the way of frills.
The room has no air conditioning or windows that open so you're left turning the radiator up and down to try and get a comfortable temperature.
There are good points, its location and free parking take the hassle out of getting in and of town because it's on bus routes.
But don't set your expectations too high.
B. “. W.
Just finished a stay here for a week on business. The place is tidy a well presented but the 5stars comes from the staff, they are by far the friendliest, happiest I have come across in a hotel. Always smiling and more than happy to help with local knowledge. I had no issues whilst staying here and would happily return.
A. C.
Welcoming and friendly staff. The hotel was a little tired in parts but the room was spacious and comfortable assisting with a good nights sleep. Breakfast was pleasant but a lack of vegetarian options.
H. H.
Attended a large group afternoon tea. The food was nice but not a large selection for vegetarians or decaffeinated coffee; other than hotel room sachets. Many cups were filthy, not stained which took a while to be replaced. The place is beautiful.
S. W.
Good hotel, comfortable rooms although a little dated. Excellent service during Covid times.
M. S.
Beautiful setting, however I had to search for someone to come and work at the bar. Both were unmanned. The man who served us apologised was efficient and very pleasant. Second visit to the bar... 3 members of staff on duty, Yeah? No. Over 10 minutes for two coffees to arrive. One black on white, but two white coffees arrived. Again a very apologetic member of staff and a replacement only took a few minutes, but the white one was so Luke warm that it was finished before the black one arrived. Such a disappointment.
R.
Beautiful entrance but very dated rooms/bathrooms. I believe they may have been in the middle of updating them as there we're wallpaper stripings and dust sheets all over one corridor? If Breakfast hadn't of been as good as it was, I would have rated 2 stars. Takes around 10 mins via taxi to get into central (£5-7 uber)
M. W.
Lovely spacious room and excellent value for money. Would highly recommend
Care, no lift though so if you have mobility issues speak with the staff at the property before you book
A. K.
Really nice hotel, unfortunately we were woken at 5:30 by a reversing lorry beeping which lasted about 45 minutes and there was no point trying to get back to sleep after when the kids were up. Breakfast was nice with a good selection of hot and cold food and the staff seemed nice. Just a shame about the unwanted wake up call.
G. S.
I have stayed here many times over the last decade or so. It's basic, but comfortable. Many of the legacy problems have been fixed over the years, but there is more to do. The breakfast is good but, again, basic. It's a solid hotel.
K. C.
Breakfa at was nice but vegetarian options not listed on the menu. Room was nice, lots of space and comfy beds. Good view from the window but the actual corridors are a bit if a maze, could do with some more signs along the way!
S. M.
The room was basic but cheap. Bed was uncomfortable and neither myself or my partner slept well. Wedding party when we arrived with the bride, groom and guests smoking weed at the entrance. It smelt like good stuff but not to everyone's taste I'm sure.
J. J.
We stayed in a family room with a new baby. I have never come across a more friendlier hotel. I could not fault it and the staff could not do enough for you. They were so kind and considerate and really helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.
I. B.
My husband and I are celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary today, glad we chose to have afternoon tea here, (Christmas gift from a friend) The staff are polite and very attentive. Scones are to die for, all freshly baked and chef didn't object to us asking for another. The lounge is relaxing and the recorded piano music is wonderful. Our complements to Patrick the chef, Valentina young lady at reception, Khalia the waitress. We would recommend this venue and would not hesitate to come again.
P. K.
Reasonable price for last minute booking of room. Polite friendly staff.
B. C.
popped in for pots of tea and sandwiches and a pts of theakston ale all very nice .on Saturday lunchtime .we sat near the bar area nice and cosy and very relaxing.the staff were very welcoming and friendly .nothing to much trouble.they seemed to be very popular for afternoon tea.in the main dining room.we also noticed how spotlessly clean all areas we visited .can't recommend this enough.well worth a visit
L.
Stayed in room 121, a very large suite. Stayed for 3 weeks. Huge bedroom and generous sized living room. Huge windows. Very quiet. Good breakfast with plenty of choices. Delightful staff.
K. A.
What a gem, superb visit from start to finish. Staff exceptional loved our stay. ❤😉👍
K. D.
Needs some TLC as the decorating is a little tatty in places. Every breakfast something was unavailable. A sandwich ordered in the bar took an hour to arrive. However the parking is free and you are only a short walk from Broad Street so if you avoid eating in the hotel it is good.
C. S.
Me and my fiance went in to see if it would ve a venue for our wedding. The staff were polite and attentive and the hotel seemed well run. We were shown around and had a good discussion with the wedding manager.
S. W.
Positive experience, staff very kind and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Most definitely staying here again. Rooms are a great size with everything you will need.
S. R.
Lovely time at a close friends wedding, hotel staff friendly helpful and attentive, food and drinks reasonably priced (although drink variety could have been better) room was spacious and comfortable and relatively clean. All round lovely time
J. M.
The venue is easy to get to, they have a large car park which is secure. The afternoon tea is good with a great selection of sandwiches cake, the warm scones, jam and cream are yummy. The funtion rooms are very comfortable and cosy and Victorian.

The food is excellent. I have been coming here for many years and the food is always a good quality, delicious, ample and well presented. The waiting staff are also very attentive and polite.

A hotel on a main road leading to the city centre. Great location and the front of house, restaurant and bar are very well presented.
The rooms needs updating and floor boards are going, but for price and comfort. Can't complain
K. L.
Very relaxed and luxurious facilities. Kind and lovely staff members. Room service was really great as well. Definitely I will visit again.
B. F.
Needs updating, rooms are clean but very basic. Not very clear how to navigate though the hotel.
A. M.
We stayed for one night following a visit to Cadbury World which is about 4 miles away. We had dinner in the restaurant, and it was excellent. Gloria, one of the staff was a total treasure. All of the staff were polite and helpful. Thank you Paul, please pass on our thanks to your staff.
G. J.
Stayed for One night before Step Daughters Graduation. Not your normal Chain but nice to have a personal feel in a Hotel. Clean but dated perhaps that's what we liked.A step back in time. Would return without hesitation.
D. W.
Stayed in one of the newly refurbished executive bedrooms. Tastefully done, well planned out, clean, a very comfortable bed and quiet with nice view overlooking the garden.
A. O.
Good affordable last minute visit to the plough and harrow. Room was comfortable enough. Can hear a bit of chatter from the corridor but not too bad. Easy walk up into town, great location.
K.
Great hotel! Staff were warm and friendly and rooms were large and clean. Lovely breakfast with lots of options.
A. P.
Clean and well presented rooms. Some rooms can be a bit of a walk from the reception. Only stayed 1 night and didn't use the restaurant or bar.

Nice comfortable room in a hotel that was convenient for the University of Birmingham. The evening food was ok with a limited menu and breakfast was freshly cooked.
W. D. R.
Great hotel and staff were very helpful. Room was very clean and tidy. Great location for city centre. Will book again. 😀
S. R.
Stayed for 1 night, it was OK. Quite dated in parts, we were in the newer part which seemed to be unloved. Breakfast was fantastic and staff. Don't think I'd stay again.
P. H.
Lovely afternoon tea with homemade cakes and sandwiches... attentive staff and a nice setting...would certainly recommend the scones with jam and clotted cream.
J. M.
Stayed overnight at room number 4 in the new part of the building. The room was clean and had free access to the Internet.
MThe problem there was the leaking pipe at the sink in the toilet. Overall it was a good stay.
D. C.
Nice hotel. Comfy bed, clean room however the heating banged continuously throughout the night, keeping me awake..missed breakfast which ends at 9am as id finally managed to drop off around 7am...
B. C.
Very nice Afternoon Tea. The scones and clotted cream were amazing. Very friendly attentive staff. Thank you x ..... .p.s. we had eaten half the sandwiches before we took the photo
p. s.
Lovely old building rooms need updating but very clean. Made to feel very welcome and lovely staff. Free car park as well . Close to all attractions .
s. c.
Good hotel and lovely garden which was a big plus for me! Nice breakfast and welcoming staff. Knocking one star off as room was very hot at night.
A. R.
Came as surprise high tea with my girls food was lovely staff attentive would have been nice to have a pot of tea and coffee on the table the surroundings are pleasant but need to sort out the background music something a bit more fitting to the occasion than radio music rap /grime.
S. R.
Had a murder mystery dinner. The hotel was beautiful. The bar seemed a bit behind with the times as they were pouring lemonade from bottles instead of on tap. But it was nice
W. S.
Just called for coffee and to park. Nice atmosphere and good staff. Excellent coffee and lots of parking. We were attending health appt. nearby and paid £5 for all day parking
J. D.
Relatively dated interior, however clean and tidy rooms. Free on-site car parking. Good location for central Birmingham, quick taxi in to the centre.
D. H.
Went for Festive afternoon tea. We both asked for peppermint tea ,the pot was quite large for the one tea bag so we had to ask another , that was bought over without any issue.
Lovely choice of finger sandwiches, fresh scone( which had no dried fruit so perfect for us) and lastly snowflake macaroon, tiramisu and eclair. Accompanied with a glass of prosecco.
J. P.
Stayed for 5 nights for a business trip. Very friendly staff and rooms are what you would expect for a 3 star hotel. Would recommend for quick access to Birmingham City Centre.
S. S.
We didnt stay .but we had a very nice afftnoon tea.
However i think it would be better served
In the hotel lounge.
Not the dinning room
R. Y.
Yes the rooms could do with a little updating but the staff at this hotel out weigh that..The staff are excellent couldn't do enough for you..The food in the dinning room in the evening was good & breakfast the nxt day the same..We will definitely be back to stay should we be back in that area..This trip was a family reunion & there was 12 of us staying there..
R. J.

Lovely place to stay, welcoming staff, great breakfast
S. H.
The food is excellent. I have been coming here for many years and the food is always a good quality, delicious, ample and well presented. The waiting staff are also very attentive and polite.

Historically, because I haven’t been a guest, it is of importance because of Tolkien, the writer from “Hobbit”, “Lord of the rings”. He spent the night on June 3rd 1916 at this Inn with his wife Edith, whom he had married some months earlier. He was previously informed the day before that he was to join the British Expeditionary Force in France, but was given 48 hours before he had to depart for Folkestone on June 5th.
It is of relevance that it is just a block away from his old house at St and the Catholic Oratory, St. Felipe Neri, founded by Cardinal Newman, where he practiced his faith.
The inn was built in 1704 (and still preserves ancient brickwork in some of the stables) and it was named as such because of the meadows and ploughing field that surrounded it (not like nowadays).
Cardinal Newman used to arrange luncheons for guests visiting the oratory. But still more, it became a social meeting place where cultural meetings where heald.

Good hotel especially for cadbury world package, decent breakfast. Hotel itself is bit dated and need a refurbishment and donot have any lift and expect to walk alot for your rooms.
H. B.
Clean, well maintained with friendly and professional staff. Absolutely no complaints, they made our stay comfortable and easy.
T. B.
Quiet setting. Large and clean room.would defiantly stay again when going to another show in Birmingham city centre as you can walk to broad street in about 20 minutes. Theresa.
J. C.
Rooms are a bit dated but comfortable. Secondary glazing full of flies which wasn't nice. Food okay but hard to judge from a set menu.
D. M.
Room clean, but decor a bit old and tired. Bathroom needs a refit.
Public toilets in reception are not pleasant.
Food was ok.
Bar prices shocking!!
P. R.
Great hotel, be prepared for a long walk to the rooms, grandchildren thought it was an adventure exploring the corridors, beds were comfortable and the room was ample big enough as was the bedroom
M. S.
Although first impressions were good the rooms in the "modern" extension are a bit dated. Can't comment on the restaurant as we ate out in the evening and weren't offered breakfast in the morning.
R. J.
Staff were fantastic in the hotel and couldn't be more helpful. The only thing that let them down was only scrambled egg at breakfast as they had an egg shortage.
D. G.
Good hotel. Good service. Expensive water.
D. J.
Room was very spacious and nice to stay in, Could have benefited from better maintenance as some of the cupboards were a bit stiff to open or wobbly, Over all, a good stay though
G. H.
Great Xmas Dinner. Roast Beef cooked to perfection. Waiting staff not invasive. No rush. Will eat here again. Only 1 mile from City centre.
A. B.

Went there for my Nephew's wedding & was absolutely spoiled rotten.
NOTHING was too much trouble for the hard working staff there & my wife and I wouldn't hesitate staying there again, should the opportunity arise.
H.
Nice rooms in the old part of the building, right on the main route through Birmingham but didn’t notice any excessive noise.
a.
The hotel needs renovating, in particular floorboards and signposting to the rooms. The room was large but needed new wallpaper and the bathroom had not been properly cleaned.
B. S.
I when to plough and harrow just to look around for my wedding venue and was so impressed by all the staff and the hotel that I book it when I hadn't planned on booking anything till next year. So excited :)

Went here for a friends baptism. The food was good, staff were friendly. A very nice, cosy venue.
K. B.
Nice clean hotel, an over abundance of cupboards in the rooms, too many, the water pressure was a little poor, but the major moan was the service at breakfast, one lady ( Gloria, I think, seemed to be running around doing the best she could, three staff should surely have been enough to run it well, but they were overwhelmed
M. D.
Attended for 90th Birthday. Fantastic food, huge portions and staff which went above and beyond to make the day a success. Brilliant.
