The hostel itself is quite nice inside. Has a classic decoration and the staff are very nice/helpful. The location is quite good to move around and you can do most of things walking. Breakfast is simple (toasts, jam, butter, juice, tea/coffee, cereals) but no fruit or cheese if you are expecting that. The reason of my low rating is because of the noise at night. My room was near the reception and it was terrible because there was loud talking all the time and the walls are so thin that you can hear everything clearly as if you were inside a party trying to sleep. It was a terrible night. The toilet is fine but when I opened the shower to regulate the temperature it just make the whole floor wet and there was no towel to dry it. The room smells really bad like mold. I tried to open the window unsuccessfully. There are no power plugs for upper beds (try to ask for a lower bed) and there are only two extra plugs that do no work properly. I tried to recharge my phone and after 30% the plug just stopped working. Terrible electrical net. The sheets looked like have been used already And not cleaned. The good thing is that you have a cars key but the bad is that it is quite hard to close the door so if you get in the room when everyone is sleeping you will make lots of noise. Maybe if you stay in a double room you have a better luck. There are no lockers inside the room so if you take a backpack you have to keep your wallet under your pillow. Last I did not feel safe in that location. It is ugly and dark. There are other hostels/hotels with better location nearby. Oh and the card machine was not working so I could only do the check-in by paying in cash (luckily I had just enough).

Very friendly staff. Nice and chatty. The room i had was a sleeper, interesting. Probably not the best option if you want a bit of privacy as the open plan layout means more noise in the morning. Other than that very clean as were the shower rooms and toilets. My only suggestion would be for better, brighter lighting in the shower room, its a bit too dim and warm, not ideal for putting on makeup.

Location wasn't the best, although I chose to walk from the station every time, but it is still decent enough to plenty of food and markets. The hotel room itself was great, although I chose a private room. Large enough bed, nice restroom, and clean! The basic breakfast was just decent, nothing too special.

Like I heard a staff member say: "the place has potential". Right now it is perhaps too far out of the center, it has perhaps a breakfast that is too basic and perhaps the rooms and beds are too old too compete with say the hostels of the Generator group or H26. But it does not have to because there is no Generator or H26 hostel in Birmingham. When you enter you are greeted by friendly staff and a modern reception, great leather Chesterfield seats and sofas where you can sit down and have a drink but from there it goes down. Hatters is located in an old building and you immediately see it in the rooms. It can be so much more because they have a cellar with a bar (it was never used when I was there and I doubt it is still used) where people have breakfast but where you can have huge parties. One shower and toilet for a room with 8 people is not nearly enough. Staff is very friendly and always willing to help you if they can. So perhaps it is a little overpriced for what you get but it is always cheaper than a hotel or sometimes Airbnb. Still I would like you to go there and see for yourself. I myself had a great time with people also staying there so in all I would consider going back.

Clean and safe hostel, good facilities, atmosphere and group social activities, friendly staff. I booked into their 24-bed dorm and was amazed to find the dorm split into 6 semi-private compartments of 2 bunk-beds which is simply innovative genius! Also, each bed (of good size, and comfy!) then has own curtain which provides even further privacy. Only gripe is that the lockers in the rooms are not lockable, though I assume that valuables could be left in safe at reception. Overall, a great hostel that I'd readily stay at again.

Cozy, not the fanciest but felt safe which is a big plus when it comes to hostels. Staff were friendly and helpful. The matresses were a little worn so you could feel the metal bars through it. The bathrooms could be cleaner but they were not that dirty.

The good, the average/normal and the bad...
The good :
- all attendants were very kind and helpful, with a special mention to Elisa, who managed to have us another room (see "The bad" below), helped us a lot with the laundry thing, always very attentioned,
- there is a laundry!,
- it is very well situated,
- the rooms are clean,
- free hot drink & cake voucher for every private room.
The average/normal :
- nothing special with the lobby, it's OK,
- nothing special either with the bathroom / toilets, it's normally clean.
The bad :
- the first room we had was downstairs, more or less buried, underground. After the shower, you want to open the windows to refresh the atmosphere... Forget it, no window can be opened. Then the room looks like a Roman steam bath. We really wonder how this situation deals with security...
*--* Thanks to Elisa, we have been able to get another room for the next day.
The very bad :
- the dining room, a somber underground refectory where the tables are not clean at all.
The very very bad :
- the kitchen, more than dirty, the floor of which is sticky, the ustensils either outdated or/and unclean. If you need to cook, bring your own pots and pans!
All in all, a mixed feeling for as much as we appreciated the location of the hostel and the kindness of the attendants, we have been badly surprised with the kitchen and dining room.

I had a great time and enjoyed my stay very much at a reasonable price. However, the card reader on the basement door does not work adequately and should certainly be checked and serviced and a second hand rail on the other side of the basement steps would be of great assistance to those with disabilities in terms of access to this area. The staff were all extremely kind and helpful, which added greatly to my stay. I would be very happy to return for a further stay and look forward to doing so in due course.

Nice hostel with comfy communal areas which have a pool table, table football and TV. Clean rooms and comfy beds. You have to bring your own padlock for the lockers. Bathrooms are very basic. The layout of the hostel is not the easiest to navigate but there are friendly staff on hand to help. Overall good value.

Good and tidy well kept hostel in an excellent location, with good links for transport. The hostel itself looks lovely but it is a bit disorganised. On the first night, an alarm went off and none of the workers knew what it was or how to switch it off, and on my last night I had my luggage removed because "it had been there too long", otherwise the stay was enjoyable and I would stay there again.

Stayed at Hatters during an induction week at the University of Birmingham and loved it! Fantastic impression from the moment I walked in the door; the front lounge had a great style and I was greeted by friendly staff who were very helpful and knowledgeable. The room was clean, tidy and pleasant and the bed was very comfortable. There were also secure locker storage in my room which I used with a padlock I rented from reception for only £2. The en-suite toilet and shower room was clean and well looked after as well as having more than enough space for any conceivable person to get changed. The self-service kitchen facilities were clean and had plenty of cooking utensils; know that there isn't an oven which caught me out when I came back with a frozen pizza! The complimentary breakfast included tea, coffee, juice, cereal and ingredients to make sandwiches or toast and was lovely. I genuinely really enjoyed my stay at the hostel and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay that offers much more than what you pay for!
Thanks again, Hatters!
R. B.
You get what you pay for; a cheap bed for a night. The shower was rather temperamental with its temperature and there was a huge queue to check in because other customers had complaints about being charged too much, waiting over half an hour to check in is too long. Pros; free breakfast (just toast and cereals) and laid back atmosphere.
R. S.
It was a good budget stay. Warm welcome. The minus point was that we couldn't sit straight on beds. To sit straight you have to be on floor. They said breakfast is from 7-10am. I went to breakfast place at 7 to find nothing was there. I had to check-out then as I had some work. But room and bathroom were clean which is a plus point.
A. A.
For a hostel, it's quite nice. For the large occupancies, some of the rooms are in a large hall while some have mini cubicles housing 2 double bunk beds with a safe/locker. You get a breakfast and 24/7 coffee/tea. Some of the toilet facilities need some TLC though.
J. M.
Very good value for money hostel. The staff and management are very friendly and attentive to the needs of guests. The breakfast is very good as well. The location of the hostel is outside of Birmingham City Centre, but it's not too far away at all really, and there is a tram service from New Street Station and Birmingham City Centre, which stops near to the hostel anyway. Also there are main bus routes close to the hostel as well. The downside would be that the rooms can get very stuffy at night, so some more ventilation or windows being made more secure and able to be kept open during the night would be better.
L. W.
I appreciate the fact that every dormitory room has a ensuite shower and toilet facility. The rooms are good standard sizes with clean linen, staff are helpful and polite. The negatives are people don't clean after themselves when using the kitchen facilities. On the whole the hostel is a good place to stay for the price.
W. D.
Probably one of the best hostels I've been to. Proper full English breakfast served with various other options (cereal, toast, etc). The rooms provide lockers and a toilet and shower. There is an outdoor smoking area and a few communal rooms including a pool table and table football.
T. E.
One of the better hostels I've stayed in. The décor was trendy and clean. The beds were reasonable although the room was a little on the warm side with limited window space. Decent shower. And provides a modest breakfast with cereal and toast. Recommended
R. C.
Stayed in the hostel for two nights, very surprised how nice it was having never stayed in a hostel before. The room was very clean, the main areas of the hostel were nicely decorated, only bad point was the kitchen but not a staff fault as it is self catering, you cook and clean up after yourself and sadly not many people did! Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful I can't fault them at all, especially when my friend was stressed about printing a coach ticket out they did everything they could to help! Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone needing a bed for the night in Birmingham!
P. J.
Booked a Triple room and was VERY impressed with it. The addition touches of a bottle of water and biscuits were lovely. Breakfast was simple but good. Very helpful staff and a lovely stay. Will definitely use again. GREAT value for money.
M. M.
Decent stay, quite clean facilities and good breakfast (toast, butter, cheese, loads of cereal and milk, unlimited coffee and tea). Room window can't be opened so it gets quite suffy in the room. Would recommend, it is a good value for money, if your roommate isn't snoring machine.
K. M. S. -. R.
Only complaint would be our TV didn't work but that wasn't a problem really, given the price, friendly staff, convenient placement near to where we needed to be.
Good size and room layout, a brilliant get away.
Would recommend and would definitely stay again.
M. G.
I stayed for night on the 12th May. This was my first ever stay in a hostel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean so as the bathroom and bed linen. It was not possible to open the window even though the room was hot. I will recommend the hostel to friends and family.

Pillows were thin, but the bed below me wasn't occupied so I used that pillow too 😅
Cups weren't clean. We are supposed to wash it if we use it but there was no washing area.
Overall, it was a pleasant stay there. For the price I paid, it was more than I can ever ask for :-) thank you!
E. C.
Lovely staff and lovely facilities. I had a private room as I was visiting Birmingham on business and I was delighted to have a very comfortable room with an ensuite. There is a kitchen for guest to use which is very handy if you are traveling on a budget and a continental breakfast was included. It's pretty central with supermarkets and places to eat nearby and the staff are lovely and good humoured. The heating was unfortunately not working while I was there however sufficient provision was made for this. Would definitely visit again
l. s. p.
it's a really nice facility (mainly the 4-bed-boxes), the beds are clean / with good duvets & the staff is so friendly (which was really appreciated). thank you, it was a lovely time staying at your hostel. ^-^
A. C.
Decent for the price.
The mattresses need replaced, it isn't a very nice part of town (although it's only a 15 minute walk to a large shopping center and the train station), the showers/toilets need a little more deep cleaning, and the clientele are a bit iffy, but it's really cheap so I can't complain too much.
D. G. G.
The 4 people mixed room was okay if you just need to spend a night there.
Despite being near the downtown, the area where it's located is not really nice at night when coming back, since it's surrounded by several workshops and barracks which look totally abandoned.
It offers free breakfast but it's really poor and basic, whereas in other Hatters hostels where I stayed such as the one in Liverpool the variety of food in the breakfast was great.
T. S.
For the price you can't really complain too much, but it's in a rather run down Street and I was concerned about leaving my vehicle parked on the street over night. Also had some slight issues with the hotel, the toilet seat was partially cracked, with something left inside from the last guest. Very crammed 4 bed dorm and basic breakfast but then again £14 pp you can't really complain.
a. l.
Good common areas with lots of space, sofas, tv, billiards... but I have to say it was a little bit cold. A jumper was needed if you were sitting down. Nice breakfast. Small room, but enough for one night.
G. J.
Not a bad place to stay - down sides are that there was no power by most beds so you have to either trust the people in your room or stay with your phone to charge. Also would be ideal if they sold earplugs at the front desk as I had a snorer in my room and realized I didn't bring mine until after all shops were closed.
N. D.
Very pleasant and well maintained for a hostel with good facilities. The only aspects that let it down were the range and quality of the breakfast provided and the central heating or air conditioning (of which there was none). However, very good value for money and very central.
K. M.
Yes, I enjoyed it. Nice selection of cheese and ham etc for breakfast which I was not expecting. 6 bed dorms are clean and spacious with modern facilities. Staff are friendly and accomodating. Did not see any activities taking place but there were some advertised during the week
H. J. D.
Really good. I felt comfortable and safe staying there and the staff were friendly and helpful. Only negative critism I would make is the key cards were glitchy and only worked when they felt like it. Remember to bring your own towel
A. M.
Great for a cheap weekend. Quite a cool building in a good location... 15 minutes walk to the 'centre' so really good. Lots of parking nearby (not free) and breakfast is pretty good to. It is a hostel though so you get what you pay for.
M. U.
Great Service and overall standard of the hostel. Pleasantly surprised with the price which makes it very affordable. The only downside would be the downstairs toilet and the fact that seem to attract people that don't care about other people trying to get some rest
A. Z.
Staff at the reception weren't particularly pleasant, maybe that's because I came in at about midnight. Room was completely full, despite the fact that there was an empty room right next door. The stay was good / decent but I'd recommend going somewhere else, like Holiday Inn Express or Iris.
Z. K.
Stayed for two nights in the private dorm for 4. The hostel is 20mins from centre of town so everything is in walking distance. Breakfast was provided which consists of cereal and toast and tea/coffee facilities. The communal kitchen gives you access to a rusted microwave and electric hobs but no oven. The room we stayed in was in need of some attention as it was fairly rundown. The shower took ages to heat up but once it did it was good. The bunk beds had very basic uncomfortable mattresses. There is no TV in the rooms.
We also had trouble on arrival as they were only accepting cash so we had to go to the tesco 10mins down the road to get cash.
All in all it was fair value for the money we paid.
K. P.
The hostel was perfect for us, a quick walk to the Barclaycard Arena and easily accessible from the train station. Lots of nightlife near by.
Rooms were clean and the communal areas were nice.
Good breakfast in the morning - definitely needed the unlimited tea!
Would definitely recommend.
B. D.
Great little place. Cheap rooms, lovely staff, rooms in good condition, handy lamps and sockets next to the bed, massive downstairs kitchen/bar area, what more could you want? Won't think twice about booking with them again the next time I'm in town.
P. A.
Decent place for short or long stays. The dorm rooms are ok but could use more bathrooms. They have a nice big kitchen and a couple of lounge areas. WiFi was free and worked in all areas.
S. M.
Really lovely and funky hostel with a lot of facilities included like breakfast, use of kitchen, lockers in rooms, games room and you can buy personal items you may have forgotten such as toothpaste. Easy 10 minute walk to the city center and there is a cheap car park 2 blocks way. I would stay there again because of all it offers and how nice the layout is, but although most of the staff and managemnt were really sweet and friendly who went out of their way to help when ever we needed, which is much appreciated, unfortunately a few staff memebers made our group feel rather uncomfortable and more of an inconvenience by being there at all and those few had little to no knowledge about the surrounding area. The only other down points were the fridges could have been in better condition and we had a slight issue with the shower but generally it was a lovely stay and would recommend it.
B. B.
Very nice place, well located. The staff was friendly and gave us places to visit in Birmingham. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The only negative point is that the room was not soundproofing, which can be a bit annoying when you want to sleep and people talk and laugh loudly in other rooms.
R.
bed was dirty as i could still see the head shape in the pillow and a big stain on the blanket cover.
tiny ass kitchen didn't even attempt to try cooking.
not enough bathrooms/showers.
large dorm room was 1 room subdivided by half walls and saloon doors. each subdivision was extremely tiny and i found garbage in the lockers.
k.
Nice clean room, friendly staff, 24 hour reception, free breakfast available and free wi-fi. Can't have any complaints with all of these features considering the price. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking to stay somewhere in Birmingham
C. L.
Hatters Hostel in Birmingham is a nice place to stay.
Breakfast was surprisingly large with things like croissants and a fruit salad.
Staff was nice but stressed. The hostel provides self-guiding maps for the area (a walk around birmingham, that is well picked and enjoyable!).
Room was okay (a bit dirty but not dramatical). The shared bathroom on the other hand was a minor catastrophe (very dirty, no towels, at one point no toilet paper and not once cleaned in my 4 days of stay)
Otherwise the interior is quite nice.
I recommend the Hatters to people with small budget because it is definitively worth the money but somehow i was not quite satisfied.
A.
Great place to stay. The staff bent over backwards for me. I lost my room key they sorted another out no problem. I’m other hotels you have to pay for that privilege. I’m not just saying it, it’s clean, tidy, welcoming and all the staff are polite. I thought it would be off putting in a dorm but it’s not really a dorm there are lots of little room in a big area. Will defo be stopping again. The new receptionist Jaz if great. Allen was good but Jaz is the top staff member in my book. She has a lovely smile which makes you feel at ease straight away and she will go well out of her way to help anyone. I can’t fault this place and Jaz is a great addition :)
A. D.
Location is great ( for day walks if you are alone or in any case if you are in a group). Breakfast is free as well as the coffee and jucies. Rooms are ok, in some of them there are no windows so with 8 people inside it is a bit of unpleasent to sleep. In some od them, there are no lockers or place where to leave luggage. Batrooms miss ventilaton and aeration - not to clean as well. Staff is friendly but reception is a bit unorganized- had to change room three times for two night stay. I dont think there is better accomodation for this price in any case in Birmingham but still a lot of space for improvements
M. F.
The rooms were comfortable, slightly better than you'd expect at this price point. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. Also, it's literally 3 minutes walk to Snow Hill and 15 minutes to Birmingham New Street. I'd stay again. BTW, bring earplugs!
S. R.
So I stayed here for a full week in regards to Insomnia 61 (for the NEC). I've read the reviews beforehand and everything being considering to book my stay.
For the first few days, it was pretty good. After 3 or so days in, you start noticing the issues with your room, lack of windows, bathroom humidity, etc. So I often had to leave the front door open for the draught to come out. Luckily, I didn't have any heavy snorers but people outside do tend to chat up to late at night downstairs. Beds weren't the most comfortable but for the price, all you really need is to have a place to put your head down. They have a weekly schedule for what happens in their kitchen, e.g Monday is movie night, tuesday is free food night, Wednesday is games night, friday/saturday is booze night, etc. Reception is very friendly and you can ask them anything to help you in service. Would recommend buying a padlock for your room locker for security and piece of mind.
Overall, it was a good stay, lots of chicken/kebab/pizza shops around, a tescos and a jamaican food shop around the hostel and it's 1 minute away from St. Pauls Tram stop which goes to Central (Birmingham New Street). Would recommend for a cheap "put your head down" stay.
B. S.
Solid, tolerable hostel. We stayed in a six bed dorm with an en suite toilet. Breakfast is free (cereal, instant coffee, toast). WiFi is also free, but not that good. In the nice jewellery quarter, fifteen minutes from town.
I. M.
Lovely staff, electrifying atmosphere and good vibes. I loved every moment of my stay at this hostel and I am definitely going to come back and stay here again very soon. Keep up the good work guys. x Ivan

Diverse and wide variety of residence makes hatters the perfect place to be if interested in learning a second language - the members of staff are generally helpful although on one occasion a misunderstanding between myself and the receptionist resulted to me having to leave. I just simply wanted to charge my mobile device - put that to the side I think it's an interesting place.
B. F.
Fairly nice hostel. Clean, with a sizeable dining and social area (which only smells like cigs from the patio outside 50% of the time). The keys all seem to be banger keys, so they only ever work once.
E. H.
Hatters is within an easy walk of the centre of Birmingham, respectful, multi generational, multi cultural, quiet, tastefully decorated, comfortable; very friendly staff, great kitchen. Just so you are not sceptical about my glowing review I will tell you the toaster was not heating up properly and the coffee machine was out of order at breakfast time.....but hey it was the best deal ever and I will definitely go there again when next I visit Birmingham
P.
Great 24 dorm rooms. Wach bed has its own curtain. Breakfasts include cereal and toast. Good location. Facilities are my only concern. Not enough toilets for mens restroom, little room to hang up towel in shower.
M. T.
The wifi really isn't great. It has awful connection speed, and couldn't be relied on anywhere in the building. Breakfast was decent... Jam and toast, coffee/tea, ham, cheese, orange slices. Overall, a decent hostel.
M. M. C.
Beautiful hostel, would definitely recommend! Rooms were so beautiful, so old-fashioned but modern! Staff were friendly! LOVED the peaky blinders theme, so fetch! Would go back again!
R. R.
Decent price, good location, staff were friendly and helpful. Could do with having an extra person working on the counter on an evening though, waited quite a while to get checked in and there was a massive queue behind me too. Good breakfast too.
M. H.
Stayed in a double room and a 16 person dorm. Everything is very good here, and the people are nice, but the breakfast room was quite minimal in terms of choice. I'd definitely go back though.
D. T.
Friendly staff. The common room looks great and the rooms have their own shower and toilet. The room keys never worked more than once. The pillows were terrible.
A. N.
For this affordable price, this place has good wifi, great facilities and pleasant staff. Even free bfast. I am honestly impressed. I have been travelling throughout Europe with my fiancé for a month now and this is my last day, in Birmingham for a stopover before going back to Singapore.
R. B.
First hostel that I used. Didnt know what to expect but i was definitely satisfied. the room for 24 people is organised verry good, each 4 beds in a room so its not a mass sleepover. Verry kind people on reception. Location is little bit out of hand with big luggage, just check the map or use taxi , its a big help :) But this one i recommend and if i travel across UK again i know where to stay
C. D.
Awesome value for mento given the price. Clean room, sheets, spacious bathrooms and awesome lounge to chill out. Toilets really need a separate bin for disposing off female products! Wifi is only available in the lounge and keeps going down. Is 15mins away from the city centre.
A. M.
Reception area and communal area is good. The communal bedroom is not bad but the shared bathrooms are dirty and the shared shower room a horror with no hot water running in all the showers, no gel and no good lockers. Nice breakfast and good location.
L. C.
Value for money. The hostel was nice. Although I stayed in a 24 bed dorm it didn't feel big as the beds were divided into 4-bed sections. Good location, would stay here again .
J. L.
I have had such a great time staying at Hatters Hostel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and breakfast is good too with plenty of choices to go for.
J. B.
Very good location and quiet considering it's central Birmingham. Comfy bed. Had to dash so didn't try breakfast (which is included in the price). I will definitely stay again.
L. H.
Great service and clean accommodation.
Only thing that let it down was the lack of breakfast due to COVID but that's not there fault.
R. H.
Really nice hostel, clean and friendly staff. Booked a double room with en suite and was a really reasonable price! Close to arena (we went to gig) , close to town, good location. Would def stay there again when visiting Birmingham!
m. i.
Good compared to the prison like london hostels but not much of a life inside, Atmospher reflexes what is going on in UK for the last 10 years and Brexit won't help it. Rooms without doors are very narrow though bearable for a night or two but you must be comfortable with strangers trampeling on your feet.
M. L.
Bathroom....door are jokes closing and opening is strange and not all getting close, but looks nice, I liked it was shower gel.
Rooms.....nice but some beds doing nois..when you share room this us big.problem
Breakfast in price very nice
A. Y.
Feel safe here. Trendy setting and large commual area. However the motion sensor lighting in the bathroom of 6x4 beds droom was a pain. It forced me to get out of the warm shower head every 5 min...and that scared me to death...
D. H.
All in all the Ho(s)tel was amazing, stayed in a double room with my missus, the room was impressive, clean, smelled fresh, fresh linen and the bathroom was just huge, and as i was told it wasn't even in the new side of the hostel, their kitchen area an dining area were really interesting, it was the top floor so you could see all of the brum city centre, we were just there for a night out but decided to go on the pub crawl and it was amazing, San was a great guide, the manager (guy with a beard) was more than helpfull as he gave us the keys, breakfast was tidy and had everything, and they also allowed us to take another hour of late checkout. For the price we paid it was brilliant. Defo coming back to this place, next one it's gonna be my stag do.
C. C.
Its a dormitory style rooms. If your okay with that then its very nice. Its clean. There is a Commons area to lounge in. Even a few computers to use for free. WiFi. Free breakfast. Its well priced
A. M.
Great location and rooms. Breakfast is a bit of a smash and grab, and there's no bar any more. Very helpful staff!
M. S.
Nice place although some things could be better (the breakfast, I didn't see coffee for eg and the bathrooms which was slightly dirty). Overall it's cheap and pleasant)
林.
The staff here is really friendly and helpful. The bathroom is big enough and the breakfast is free. It's a little pity that it's a little bit far from the center.
M. F.
Nice environment and good location. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean for the most part but some minor issue spots.
S. H.
For the price it's a great hostel, good clean rooms and facilities. Staff friendly. Didn't have everything it said it would have for rent/sale eg locks.
S. O.
Cheap and cheerful, good amount of space and shared area, brilliant staff from when I stayed a few nights, you can come and go as you please, only having to carry a piece of paper they give you for re-entry after 10PM, but they are pretty relaxed about it.
V. B.
Very good place to stay, 10 minutes walking from the city center, very good breakfast and very beautiful common spaces! Staff so kind! If I'll be in Birmingham in the future I would stay in Hatters for sure!
S. B.
Room was fine, small but clean. However check in wasn't ready by 2pm like stated. Lovely and industrial-cool common area.
K. H.
Very friendliy reception, lovely room and good location. Would defenitly go there again! Not the cleanest hostel but it's not a five star hotel, so turn a blind eye to it.
V. G.
Have stayed there before. Really nice place. Really clean. Great staff. Realky comfy bunks. Will stay there again
P. M. C.
Very friendly staff and room is very comfortable and very good service. The location is very near to all the tourist attractions. I recommend this hostel to all my friends and relatives.
T. T.
Rooms were dark and beds were pretty basic. Free breakfast between half 7 and 10 was good. Average .
J. b.
Clean place & friendly workers. Not far from the city center and closer to snow hill train station. An ID with the name that correspond with the info you use to book will be required.
D. C.
Decent location 24 hour desk. Sleeper level beds have a curtain tor privacy and personal plugs to charge your devices.
O. W.
Room had an odor, bathroom was kinda disgusting. But if you don't have high expectations anyway and are only staying for one or two nights, who cares, for the price it was okay.
B. G.
I stayed here twice now, nice and kind staff, really good breakfast and quiet rooms at least for the money you are paying. I'd stay again if I needed to
C. F. V.
Courteous and friendly staff, clean rooms and bathrooms. Public rooms have consoles, computers with internet, plus free wifi. Breakfast included in the price is quite complete. All at a very reasonable price

Would happily stay again so much better than Central Backpackers was able to sleep the only thing I would recommend is taking a extra pillow as they are really thin but I folded mine in half.
R. N.
I am not someone who would usually choose a hostel, but in Birmingham I would make an exception. Hatters provides rooms which would put many, far more expensive hotels to shame with some friendly staff and good location.
M. A.
This was the most amazing place for me ever at the time my hubby was in heartlands hospital so I looked on line and this place came up I thought it was a hotel but when I got they they explained to me it was for back packers but I tell you now I will never ever book into a B&B or a Hotel ever again this place was Warm and welcoming they sympathised with my mental health and my situation which was really nice the room was amazing plus I got to meet new people who I loved and even made friends with a few breakfast is self serve Toast butter multi jams multi choice cereal Apple juice Orange juice Tea Coffee it was very clean you can use a washing machine and dryer if you need to they sell little goodies ie shampoo sprays razors towels ECT what else could you wish for NOTHING this place IS AMAZING and I really mean that the staff there are amazing polite and Angelo Eric Sandra Bogdan there are others but I forgot there names these are lovely people AS SOMEONE WHO HAS MENTAL HEALTH COPING WITH PEOPLE IS HARD BUT THIS PLACE IS REALLY WORTH THE STAY CHANGED MY MENTAL STATE FOR EVER STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TRY THIS PLACE thank you so much Hatters I thoroughly enjoyed it and my husband is doing just perfect many thanks Melissa A☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
J. A.
Very simple check in and out service.. staff are very helpful especially night staff. Dorm was clean and facilities were good service. Helpful breakfast
m.
Great hostel, loved it! I mean, Im 1.9m tall, so beds are kinda small for me, but everything eles is great. Kitchen, rooms... loved the atmospfere!
I. B.
Great location, however, the area may seem a little bit scary at night. Of you come on the pride day, it is loud
Breakfast is nice, coffee, cereal and toasts.
P. S.
Great Stay..!! They have heater at each room, relly helped during winter, breakfast is nice, they have free program such as guiding around the city, watch movie, etc
U. K.

Five stars. Nice place to stay overnight. Bunk comfy, clean bedding, toilets and showers sufficient. £10 for bed and breakfast, worth of its price.
V. B.
Great staff. Excellent, clean rooms. Decent showers. Room smelled, no curtains (not great great with a hangover)
v. d.
right quality for the right money. Things like access card can be improved, is not nice to go every 2 hours with the card into reception to activate again and again.
C. L. V.
Simple rooms and simple breakfast. Good if you just want some where to put your head down. Would recommend staying here.
J. W.
Decent hostel. Received a free upgrade which was nice. Ensuite is a nice touch. Not too far to walk to the centre. Would stay again.
M.
Great staff. Regarding the rooms, they are quite damp and it's not very pleasant.
My stay at the Hatters was cool anyway.
L. P.
Really clean and awesome staff. It's very good location and in the hostel you can find the best friends ever. Let's try it.
P. M.
Very nice stay, it was very cheap (12£ per night) and a small breakfast buffet was included. Could be cleaner though.
J. T.
Friendly and helpful staff, with good hospitality. Although a limited range of breakfast options, the food is nice. I would definitely use Hatters again.
I.
Stayed two nights at Hatters. Really enjoyed the location, quick walk from the station. Has been very tidy the last few visits. Very good value.
s. a.
The hostel was great.Nice personnel, very polite and helpful. Moreover the room was very clean and tidy. The kitchen was big and everything was very organised. The manager was very polite too.
I will visit this hostel again for sure.
I. O.
The general dorm room and reception was very cold because the heaters weren't working. I was moved to the female dorm room which was warm and cosy
P. X.
Me and my american girlfriend stayed here , close to all the stuff Bham had to offer nightlife museums coach station to see n travel other places .
Staff here were fantastic as was the rooms
Definetly stay here again 10 out of 10 n Highly Recommended to All
J. S.
Cleaners do a poor job looking after the bathrooms here. Aside from that, the lobby and common areas are comfortable and spacious.
S. W.
Always pleasure to stay at Hatters. Good facilities, free breakfast is convenient and regularly stocked, clean and good service. Will definitely stay again.
R. H.
If you're going to gigs or festivals in Birmingham I can't recommend a better place for the price. The beds are comfortable and the staff are friendly, i will definitely be back their for future gigs
N. G.
Rooms ok, staff friendly. Key lock cards unreliable. Breakfast not supplied with sufficient cups and bowls.
A. P.
Typical English hostel. Hygiene could be improved and breakfast is rather poor. Otherwise a good option if you are traveling on a smasm budget.
M. B.
Pros: incredibly friendly staff, comfortable/warm beds, clean facilities, awesome common room/kitchen area, free wifi
Cons: rooms are cold, shower had no hot water
M. B.
Great staff. Comfortable beds, amazing bed set up. Each bed has own power and night light.
A. M.
Always a pleasure to stay with friendly staff and good rooms for an excellent price, located at a perfect distance from the centre so that travel is not too demanding.
M. F.
Rooms were fine, only problem is we got there at 2 to check in and the rooms still were not ready at 4pm.
D. B.
Very small room - so not enough space for 4 people's luggage; no window in room! Breakfast basic but ok quality;
C. F.
The beds are small and unconfortable. The receptionists are nice. They have UK to EU plug converter
M. C.
Nice r cheap place to stay for a couple of nights and breakfast included, shared rooms but they're perfectly acceptable for the price
P. T. R.
I spected more at breakfast as in the picture looks better. Staff is lovely and rooms are nice.
M. N.
I liked, very nice, clean, showers in the room just for the people is in there, breakfast delicious
J. F.
In terms of a hostel, it's worth to stay here. Generally clean. Location is not very convenient but in a quite area
Y. F.
Far more than I expected. Place was spacious and cozy . Loved the kitchen and dining space with a sumptous free breakfast
P. H.

C. J. V. d. W.
Lovely staff and great facilities for the price. Not the best area but there is free Wi-Fi and it is all clean.
P.
Plenty good. Like a moustache on a horse, it is ever green. Step back and admire the way forward. Nice area. Good bars.
D. D.
Friendly staff, clean rooms nice breakfast! Good location, would stay there again
D. M.
Although I spent little time at the hostel the facilities were good, the place was clean and the staff were friendly.
T. S.
For a hostel it did the job, staff friendly and helpful. Only criticism would be the continental breakfast, well toast and cereal.
R. A.
Nice accommodation and cheaper but the toilet is not clean because when I want to take a shower , the water will be full
R. L.
Above average hostel in the price range. Beds v good. Staff helpful. Quiet location.
J. C.
Very good value for money - private double rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful.
S. I.
Decent enough for the price. Should really remove "continental" from the breakfast description, as it's just cereals or toasts.
M. V.
Good place. It is noisy on the weekends, and the room has no air circulation, which makes it uncomfortable.
B. C.
I use this hostel as I'm working in Birmingham and it is a very friendly place.clean and all rooms have on suite bathrooms and the receptionist phillipa is very helpfull and friendly
P. B.
Check in was dis-organised, but staff very attentive the new dorm & bathrooms are nice

You get what you pay for. The cons are that the windows in the rooms are very small and the room stinks of formalin.

(Translated) - The price is great
- Not very far from the city, but I expected it to be closer.
- The very area in which the hostel is located does not inspire confidence.
- The staff were nice - everything is super.
- The room and accessories are clean.
- Two of the guests in the room did not behave quite normally, moving very noisily, turning on the light in the middle of the night, and so on. One of them generally had the habit of approaching the bed with a sleeping person and looking at him - it's just, mind-blowing, as I understand it, horror.
- A bathroom with a toilet near our room has its own pros and cons.
+ The fact that there is no need to walk along the corridor nearby.
- The fact that the guests use it constantly with or without reason. And besides, if someone is in the shower, you won't get to the toilet.
- Inside the building is not the first freshness and repairs would not hurt.
Bottom line: In general, if it were not for the presence of abnormal tenants in the room, it would be possible to rate it at 4/5, otherwise the experience is certainly not very good.
(Original)

(Translated) It has been a very good experience, we have been very impressed by the location, at first it seemed a little out of town but you are not less than 15 minutes walking. The reception is great, it shows that it is renovated. Then the rooms are quite normal but according to the price. We were included in the breakfast at the bone price that came out very profitable. We received a pretty good deal

(Translated) The staff was very pleasant despite my many requests, the hostel itself is very correct, despite some small defects (no door to separate the different dormitories in each room). The included breakfast is very ok despite a tasteless orange juice. The price / quality ratio is very good. You are in a hostel, not a 5 star.

(Translated) It's only 12 pounds, but close to the city center, clean bets and breakfast included, so no complaints. You can use washing machine, wifi, PC, billiards freely.
There was no one in my room and I was able to spend comfortably because I was in a state of lending.
I was not complaining, but I was afraid that I could not use the card key twice (the staff responded carefully) and the water pressure and hot water in the shower were unstable.

(Translated) Nice hotel and great staff, only curtains are missing which more keep the room in the dark.
Cleanliness was decent in the rooms, common room and kitchen.
The location is not bad since it is not in the city center, but there are still restaurants not far away and the shops are not far either.
(Original)

(Translated) I slept in a quadruple room for one night in the hostel. The room was big enough and included two bunk beds, plenty of power outlets and storage, and a private bathroom. However, the shower was only separated with a shower glass door and a curtain from the rest of the room. The staff at the hostel were very helpful with any questions. Although I only stayed one night, I could leave my luggage in the luggage room for both days. Breakfast includes toast, sausage & cheese, jam, cereals and fruit. It was very delicious. The communal kitchen and lounges are nice and clean. The city center is about 10 minutes walk. Overall, it was a very nice stay and I would definitely stay there again.

(Translated) Good hostel It is near the center. We had no problem. Fairly clean with private bathroom. Free breakfast buffet but very little to eat. Just toast or cereal. Milk juice, coffee and tea. The correct receptionists. They gave us a small bottle of water and some cookies as a welcome gift. The bad thing that the room had no windows so you can not ventilate the room and always depend on artificial light. It has a leisure area that is also a dining room with television, billiards, etc ... Free Wi-Fi via registration with email. The television in the room did not get the signal. In any case this is very consistent quality and price.
(Original)
Buen albergue. Esta cerca del centro. No tuvimos ningún problema.

Atendimento bacana, porém a estrutura deixa muito a desejar. Hostel bem sujo. Outro fator é o barulho na parte de baixo, impossível conseguir descansar. Preço bom e boa localização, mas falta muito pra ganhar 5 estrelas.

(Translated) Not bad from ....... only that we had a room that got a bit 'of humidity ... but it was almost taken for granted x what gave the "home"
Another small flaw: only shower in a bathroom communicating with 6 other people, some unknown
So we didn't have a "choice" where there were more than 3-4 showers in a public room.
