Really enjoyed my experience at Clyde. Good location and is only about a 5-10 minute walk from Argyle Street and downtown Glasgow. Vibe of the hostel is very raw and you really get the full hostel experience with being forced to meet new people from all over the world. Other guests were really respectful too of belongings and quiet hours which was very nice.
I would recommend bringing your own lock and bringing friends to make the hostel experience even more enjoyable.

After reading the other reviews, I have to defend the owners and staff of this establishment. From a backpackers point of view this hostel is run by one of the most wonderful yet heavily misunderstood people I have met in my travels.
The atmosphere is relaxing and everyone is at peace. Everyone is considerate of each other's space and the whole energy of the communal area brings about a feeling of peace and tranquil. Everyone is friendly and respectful and as long as you keep communication clear and abide by the business rules getting along is of 100% certainty. I never at any point in time felt discomfort from staying at this hostel.
I'd definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet relaxing place with subtle music in the background or even a place to meet new people and create a casual network of friends.
I must also add that this establishment is not for those seeking 5 star experience. If you have quite a taste in high maintenance service I suggest you book a hotel which offers such quality to match your needs.
Hostels are more commonly known for its sense of community rather that the monetary aspect of a commercial hotel service, that is why it is cheap and affordable. The minimised cost means that you as the backpacker should be responsible for keeping the kitchen toilets and other areas clean and tidy.
If you are ever in Glasgow and need a quiet place to lay your head that isn't going to make you break the bank then I would highly recommend this hostel to meet new people and lay your head. Just keep in mind that you get the service that you pay for and keep communication with the staff open and clear :).
Enjoy your stay

A nice little accommodation for those looking for an affordable accomodation in Glasgow. Natasha is a delight to be around. The crowd is usually diverse, there is kitchen, laundry machines and fridge on site to manage with cooking and cleaning. Plenty of cards to kill the time.

Not so great place to stay, staff is friendly and helpful however there were WiFi issues and washroom issues too.

This hostel is great, staff are very friendly, decent rooms and showers and well equipped cooking facilities. Extremely cheap which is a huge bonus.
Thank you for having us guys!

I should probably make this four stars but a lot of the other reviews have been needlessly harsh to this place. I stayed here three nights. It was pretty good. The kitchen had was spacious and had everything you needed. There were organised crates and stuff for your food so you didn't feel like everyone was living on top of each other. The location was good. The bathrooms were clean, obviously a little dirty at the end of the night but what hostel bathroom isn't. The locks worked. The guy at reception in the morning was friendly - I witnessed them turn away a sketchy looking person looking for accommodation explaining it was just for backpackers so that was reassuring? Honestly the only thing I would have liked was some hooks on the shower (which was pretty big) door to hang clothes and towels or whatever. But that's about it. I was uncertain about staying here but honestly met some really cool people and had a good time. Definitely reccomend.

I chose to stay there because it was cheap and I'm broke. I don't regret it at all. Upon arrival there was a problem with my reservation not showing in the system, but I was immediately offered another bed in the same room. The hostel is small (about 50 beds) and there were only about 20 of us at most, so the atmosphere was really friendly. The beds were clean, the water in the showers was hot, I had some place to prepare my food. That's all I needed and this hostel got it covered. I will definitely go back. Say hi to Clyde from the blue-haired Polish girl!

The hostel is cool kitchen for cooking was my biggest joy there

You'll get what you can expect for £10 per night. There's a kitchen, a sitting area with free coffee, and of course the bedroom which includes some squeeky beds. The staff is friendly. If you're on a budget, looking to meet some people, or a backpacker that isn't too demanding: this is the place to go. If you want some luxury, you're not getting it for £10 so please move on. I was a bit worried by the reviews out here, but it isn't half as bad as people make it seem to be. Considering the cost, it's quite good.

Super easy 20 minute walk from the city centre, so that was super handy! There are a lot of bathrooms, and the staff are very friendly. There is a full kitchen where you can keep your food items (just make sure to write your name and the date you check-out on it). There are quite a few bathrooms and showers, and the rooms are clean. We stayed in a 4 person dorm and there were only 2 plugs in the whole room, so maybe that's something to think about. The stairs and the sinks in the bathrooms could be kept up a bit better in terms of maintenance and cleanliness, but the hostel is really cheap, so I wasn't really bothered that much. There is free wifi, but make sure to connect to it downstairs in the lobby because as you go up the stairs the wifi connection goes down and it's nearly impossible to connect. If you are checking in early and your room isn't ready yet, or if you are checking out at 10:00 but have a late flight and don't want to carry your luggage around all day, they have free lockers for you in the lobby. You can bring your own lock or buy/rent one off the staff there, or don't use a lock at all. Oh, and there is free tea/coffee in the mornings!
Overall, I would definitely recommend! I really enjoyed my time in Clyde Hostel! :)

We had to book a last minute stay in a hostel in Glasgow and this was the cheapest we could find. However, for £15, this wasn't worth the value. It was certainly cute and cheerful and everyone was friendly – both guests and staff – but there were several problems including unavailability of lockers to secure valuables and bathrooms without toilet paper for the entire duration of our stay. Another easy way to improve the quality of the hostel would be to include additional outlets in the rooms; there were only 2 outlets that we could find for a room of 12 people. Overall, it was nice that they accommodated us at last minute and the beds were comfortable enough, but I wouldn't choose to stay here again unless I was really truly on a budget.

I highly recommend this place. Everything in the hostel is functional, there are planty of plugs to charge your phone/laptop. The Kitchen and rooms were cleaned and well furnished. There are private rooms for a convenient price which I recommend if you travelling with someone else. Despite the Wi-Fi in the room dosen't work well, the living room is a nice and cosy place where to use the WI- Fi, chatting with a friendly people or just relax.
Most important The staff is superb and professional. They host me like a family and helped me with anything I needed.
Thanks guys
Hope to come back soon ;)

Great hostel. Great prices. Great atmosphere. Great staff. Great people. They're a good and attentive.
A. K.
Very fun place if you like youth hostels. Mostly early to mid 20 year olds stay here and they WILL be drinking. And the hostel dog, Clyde, is great. Unless you don't like dogs, obviously. Bathrooms could be a bit cleaner, but it's less than $20/ night so can't expect much. Overall a good place for the price.

Oh guys, we've booked a room for 3 in the hostel in January and read some reviews just a day before we went to Glasgow.
If we'd read them before - I feel bad for that - I guess we wouldn't have booked here.
Honestly, this place is not the cleanest place in the world and you shouldn't be that kind of girly "I need desinfection and omg look, there's some dust, I shall die NOW" person. But really, in my opinion that's not the spirit you should be looking for when you're travelling.
Being on a trip is much nicer if you keep your standarts low and your heart open. Here you will first meet a nice and funny (maybe sometimes too sarcastic ;) ) owner who will be good to you if you're not a total duchebag. Then you can just stop living for your own and get to know people. Be open minded and get out of your world of perfection.
The concept of Clyde hostel is pretty nice too. Just buy your food and cook your own meals. Better than any restaurant - of course, you are just communicating more. Clean up what you've used and don't be too picky about what you have used and what someone else has used. Just help where you can and you'll have more fun than you think.
Our room was adorable crappy. A little dust in the corners, but it was clean (not beautiful, but really... who cares) - especially the beds which is the most important part to me. It's small, that's true, but that made us spend our time in the community room, playing some games or talking to people and getting to know others. That's the spirit.
Also I went to the bathrooms and expected the worst after reading all these reviews. But I found a normal, little crappy bathroom which was clean and totally ok to use. It's again not perfect, sure. But at least you have warm showers and can wash yourself. Since my weeks of camping I maybe have really low standarts, but I am still alive and happy right? Also I've seen muuuuch worse, guys. It's really nice here.
If you're leaving to go out you are right in the middle of the city. Walk a little bit and you're where you want (bars/restaurants/museums/whatever). That's pretty cool.
A little side note maybe: The dog, Clyde, is just the most awesome dog I ever met. Wow. He's so fluffy and friendly and so relaxed... Really nice dog.
It is a real experience coming here I guess, you just have to get rid of the stereotypes of your perfect vacation just for you and yourself. You feel that the owner put much love in this here to keep that real backpacker spirit alive and that made me fall in love with this place.
Like I said: Be open minded. That won't only make your stay at Clyde Hostel a real nice time but your life much easier and more enjoyable.
Chill ;)

I booked only for one night, but as far as I could see the Clyde Hostel is a good choice if you are looking for something cheap. The staff was friendly and the toilet was clean. For the price I paid this is already enough. Besides, the trainspotting room has a very cool drawing on the door.
A. R.
First of all this is a hostel not a hotel if you're high maintenence, spend the extra money and stop giving them a bad rep. I had a bed, a hot shower, and a place to cook my food. Its near some fun bars and i met some of the most amazing people here!
L. R. G.
As an employee of Google I visited to help them complete their GMB listing on Google search. The place is a mosh mash of brightly coloured walls and tatty furniture and you'll find a lot of students use this as a go between when moving to the city to start college. Before they've found accommodation. It's a great wee hostel with great atmosphere. The owner also said that if guests didn't have money to pay for their keep, they could chip in and work for the accommodation at the hostel. They're always looking for helping hands. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owners sister briefly who is lovely and very accommodating.
M. S.
Was expecting bad things based on other reviews. Thankfully, the owner wasn't there as he seems like a complete arse. Rooms were fairly clean, showers weren't. Fairly quiet and had a decent sleep.
R. K.
Good place for groups. Rent is affordable. There is a common kitchen which everyone can use. Bathrooms can be more hygienic. Met some interesting and friendly people around.
A. B.
If you are one of those middle class spoilt brats that like your hostels clinical and impersonal than this place ain't for you. A great 'old school' budget travellers backpacker hostel full of interesting peeps. One of my favourites in Scotland.
C. J. J.
Staff were all lovely and made me feel very welcome, especially as a solo traveller! Room was lovely and cosy, central location was ideal. Would definitely come here again! :)
B. L.
Small hostel with the basic amenities. Relatively clean and beds are comfy. Could use more communal space, but gets the job done. Would come again for a cheap bed
D. L.
The bed was comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped for self catering, and the staff was awesome! However the wifi was very poor in my room on the 2nd floor and the shower was not very practical.
J. M.
Cheap very friendly place everyone is nice. Stay here!!
R. A.
Nice, cheap place ideal for backpackers and young tourists. Polite and helpful staff with good food and sight-seeing recommendations. Located in a pretty central area with access to shopping areas and train stations.
M. S.
Small friendly hostel with nice personal. Not the most modern rooms but clean and cheap. The kitchen is usable throughout and the staff friendly.
S. K.
The rooms and schowers are clean and cool staff, you pay for what you get, lovely place to meet some nice people, can only recommend it if you want a bet and don't expect to much
A. B.
Thank you guys so much for the great place. Clean room, clean kitchen, great staff who are always keen for a chat and an all round good time. Oh, and of course gorgeous Clyde! Thanks so much guys.
R. “. P.
Great place. Went with a party of 8. Comfortable beds. Friendly staff.
M. C.
Kind of ok. Cheap so can't complain, but I woke up twice with a hardstyle backnoise in the early morning, so don't expect to sleep out easily in the 16 mixed room
N. E.
The staff is really nice, the location is central and the price is quite good.
On the other hand the kitchen and especially the two tiny fridges are very gross.
R. M.
Todd allowed us to have a shower for free to make sure that you'll know his hostel is the best !
From the two wild campers
S. N.
Really nice staff, friendly manager, you can work to pay your bed, super lovely dog, beds could be more comfortable
B. S.
Basic accommodation, clean tidy and tea and coffee and a place to cook your meals. A budget backers dream home. 😁
M. F.
wonderful stuff, they helped me in my trip reservation
but the internet is only available in the reception not in the rooms
W. R.
Decent hostel, but the shared bathroom smelled badly. It's a 15 min walk from the rail station.
M. G. B.
It is the cheapest place in Glasgow to sleep. Is really noise til late evening. But the people is friendly
D. K.
Dirt cheap hostel with a funking jacuzzi, does it get any better? No, it doesn't :)
M. O.
Very good hostel, enjoyed my stay. Great staff and atmosphere.
M. F.
Nice budget place, but could use improvements in the toilets and shower rooms

Great place for drinking games and hilarious conversations. Don't forget your headphones for a good sleep ;)

(Translated) The common room with the big dog is very welcoming and there is a small kitchen where you can cook something. The rooms are dirty and a bit claustrophobic and there are only two sockets for a 16-person room. To recharge electronic devices, I recommend a stop in the common room. The location is good and there are several clubs and a mini market nearby. The bathrooms are small.

(Translated) Excellent location, clean, 6 beds in a room is fine for a hostel. We were with quite orderly people, so there was no problem, although that is everyone's luck. The Wifi network quite good.
As long as the people are clean and tidy, the place is kept nice, but I think the environment itself forces you to try to be.
The room very airy.
Corridors and common areas with a lot of color and murals to call them in some way, but the rooms are kept sober for a good rest, that seemed very good.
The bedspread they give you is the warmest, so don't worry about how cold it can get.
Good to be my first hostel experience.
(Original)

(Translated) After reading some bad reviews, we arrived with a rather uneasy feeling - but were then positively surprised. We had a private room, so I can not judge the dorms, but our room was nice and clean. The shared bathrooms were clean and in good condition, the general decor was for the low price perfectly fine. Personally, I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a cheap and well located lodging in Glasgow.

(Translated) I was a guest at Clydes Hostel for three days. After reading the consistently bad reviews, here is my conclusion:
The check-in was very friendly, the staff even carried my suitcase to the top floor. The "lounge area" is openly furnished, the kitchen is clean and large.
The room: 8 beds, 6 of which were permanently occupied. Since no beds are reserved here, what remained for me was that which was currently free. Despite my weight of 120kg, the upper bed held :-) and made no noises or anything like that!
The bed linen was freshly laundered and clean!
The bathroom: 3 toilets + 2 showers is definitely not enough for about 35 beds.
But since not everyone is showering at the same time, there are no waiting times (wow!).
Small point of criticism (-): The cleanliness of the toilets: If there is a large area of dried blood stuck to a wall for three days, someone has to see it, right? In addition: refilling toilet paper once a day is of course not enough for so many people.
I know the Clydes is the cheapest hostel in Glasgow ... but you don't have to skimp on the main ones!
Conclusion: In general you are better than the reputation! Here and there there are small mistakes - but which HOSTEL doesn't have that!
I will definitely stop by again!
Thanks!
(Original)
Thanks!

(Translated) Friendly staff, but dirty rooms / linen. Did not use the showers during the two-day stay, as too dirty, the drain was partly blocked and the water temperature between freezing and scalding changed. Wi-Fi good in the lounge, but too weak and not usable in the room.
But very cheap and with funny maps, what you can do in Glasgow so.
(Original)

The staff is nice people, and you can even work with them and earn a bed with your effort. As you enter you have the reception next to a room with good seats and tables to hang out or eat, being able to charge the electronic devices and with free WiFi. At the back it has a kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen has everything and you can use it whenever you clean what you use, you also have several refrigerators and shelves to store your purchases. The rooms are spacious with basic bunk beds, you also have lockers (tullo lock or arquilas) and you have several bathrooms and showers. In itself it is a simple and sufficient place to spend the night but at the same time it is cozy and with good atmosphere
