G. B.The Curtain Theatre was an Elizabethan playhouse located close to Curtain Road in Shoreditch, just outside the City of London. It opened in 1577 and from 1597 to 1599 was the premiere venue of Shakespeare's Company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men, where they staged several of Shakespeare's plays, including Romeo and Juliet (which gained "Curtain plaudits") and Henry V (where the Curtain gains immortal fame by being described by Shakespeare as "this wooden O").
The remains of the Curtain were rediscovered in 2012 by archaeologists from the Museum of London Archaeology, when they found a 14-metre stage and evidence of a tunnel under the stage, as well as timber galleries with mid and upper levels for wealthier members of the audience. Finds included fragments of ceramic money boxes, which would have been used to collect entry fees from theatregoers, before being taken to an office to be smashed and the money counted - this office was known as the ‘box office’, which is the origin of the term we use today.
The area around the Curtain is currently (2019) being developed with a multi-storey block of apartments, which may also include a Shakespeare museum, with the archaeological remains visible in a glass enclosure. The Horse & Groom pub, on one side of the development, remains intact.
Z. S.Amazing place... In the room you have everything you need for your stay. Beds are so comfortable... 100 % for beds. Wow... Public areas look very stylish and keep you feeling comfortable and welcome... The food is so good... When you are eating - already thinking when I can come for next time...

M. T.The hotel went out of their way to change my mind. My first impression was not great, luckily my second was nothing like it. Staff were super friendly and pro-active.
The room was quite something, well designed, a little dark but very interesting and well stocked. The amenities were very good.
The whole experience was comfortable and effortless, the rooftop pool a little cold but what can you expect this time of year with the insane winds.
Tasty cocktails on the roof with a great view and a very well rounded buffet breakfast.
M. D.I can here for the first time on Valentine’s Day for an Anti-Valentines Cabaret show. The evening was incredible. From the door staff to the bar staff, they were all lovely and easy going and seemed happy to be there. They welcomed us in and we sat in the downstairs bar area which I think was members only too, me not being a member. We had a round of very nice and very well priced drinks and the evening was incredible. The show was extremely entreating and again the drinks throughout the night were quick to be served and well priced. From what I experienced I would definitely consider becoming a member.
C. S.Rooftop Pool with a nice view and great food. Service is impeccable and fast. I went there with friends for a brunch, we stayed the whole afternoon by the pool with cocktails in hands. We did have a great time. We were able to book a table because one of our friend is a curtain's member so I cannot comment on the hotel experience other than the restaurant.
A. S.The hotel was super niche and chilled out. Definitely a place to chill with close friends or a date night. Great atmosphere and music. The green room was where we had our drinks and the manager Davide was really skillful in looking after my party for my birthday drinks. Always smiling and greeting all his guests
R. J.Amazing hotel in London with very classy atmosphere and furniture. The hotel staff are really friendly. The hotel has a pool though its in front of the restaurant at top floor. You are going to be exposed every guest at the roof restaurant. The room size are quite good and great room accommodation. The hotel is bit expensive but it worth it
S. S.Proposed to m6 girlfriend at this hotel, used the roof top terrace to propose and the staff were very kind and proactive in making this a wonderful experience. Provided complimentary perks to help me and my fiance have a enjoyable experience. Rooms were very nice and the bathroom is amazing. Parking just outside free on Saturday after 1pm and free Sundays. The breakfast was very nice as well. Price is on the heavy side but it is worth the money for special occasions. Leon was who I dealt with and he was very helpful.
