Very good price quality ! The people are so kind, it was his first check in and he nailed it !! (He even speak french!!) We had a bedroom for two, very nice and comfortable. We had good breakfast every morning. The localisation is great, you have a bus 24/24, just in front of the hostel and it goes to Leicester Square, perfect to party all night. I highly recommend it ! Thanks to the team ! ☺️

At first I wasn’t sure if I should book a hostel as I’ve never stayed in any, but when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Been coming here for a stay on and off for the past 4 years, this hostel is special, welcoming and has a nice energy overall. Showers are strong and soap available, breakfast included and they accommodate ur stay to ur needs. Open 24h, can come in and out even when u can’t sleep, there’s always someone around to assist you. Amazing team work between everyone and fast communication! Perfect location to explore Shoreditch and the night life around it, the overall vibe of the Hostel is Adult Young and there’s loads of students and professionals here that you can meet and have a chat with!

Great location with a lot of bars and restaurants around. City centre is very close. Hostel is very nice, free breakfast was included, bed was very comfortable. The staff was very nice and helpful. Will be back soon!

Great proximity to the markets and nightlife if Shoreditch and Brick Lane. Super easy check-in and friendly staff. Private rooms are great value, stylish, clean and have everything that could be needed. Depending on where in the hostel you are the noise can be an issue. We expected some disturbance (being on a main road) - but reviews suggested that it wasn't too noisy, unfortunately that wasn't our experience. The room we were in was as close as could possibly be to the neighbouring club. That, the seemingly single glazed windows, plus the lack of carpeting on floors/stairs higher up in the hostel meant no rest til gone 3am then being constantly woken up. So, perfect you plan on being out for longer than the clubs are open.

I stayed here for one (possibly two) night in May 2018. It was my first ever intercontinental, international stay in a hostel. I stayed in, I think it was a 16 or 12 person mixed gender room on the 2nd floor. There were lockers under the bunk bed to lock your valuables. I believe there was wifi, which was fast. There was also some free breakfast. I'm talking milk, eggs i think and granola, as well as toast. Not bad. Yes, there was some loud music playing, but it stopped playing at night for bedtime and started back up again in the morning. They have a collection of books on the lobby floor wall.

Very nice staff and good location for bar hopping and shopping at brick lane market.. Also a lot of restaurants :) The hostel wasn't very clean (especially the dorm floors), but I didn't really care. The breakfast was... included. I would recommend to buy your own stuff to put on toast, because they only offer sweet spread, but since there are supermarkets nearby that's no problem. The breakfast room was too small, but at least, there was great music playing. If you are very sensitive when it comes to 'nightlife noises', you might have a problem, cause the bar next to the hostel is kinda busy and loud. But you can get free ear plugs ;) Conclusion: Hostel might not be for everyone but I had a great time. Thanks :)

Stayed here in a 6 bed dorm in July and was good. Nice staff and people staying. One shower was broken but could still access the others. There was loud building work starting about 8am which wasn’t great tho. Came back to stay this past weekends and I was shocked to see how much it been left in a broken state. Staff where still lovely don’t get me wrong. The shower which was broken 2 months ago was still broken as well as the other one had only half a door. The 12 bed dorm I was in was meant to have a shower but that was broken so had to use other out and round the corner. This time where I stayed I couldn’t sleep at all. I purposely went to bed at 5pm to get some sleep the 2nd night as I didn’t get any due to the night club below. They do offer headphones but it’s pointless if you need to wake up to an alarm. Rooms where dusty and not very clean. I was quite disappointed when I came back to be honest as I did really enjoy the place in July. Just feels like there’s no one around to keep the place up to scratch.

Great location, grim kitchen and cleanliness but you get what you pay for in July. I stayed in a small 3 bunk hostel with one ceiling window and a fan: stupidly hot. They're working on the terrace and their bar next door is decent. You get 10%,off when staying but they weren't serving ANY food when I stayed. The communal kitchen was so grim I cooked there Inc and ate out the rest of the time. It when it came to breakfast the place was spotless to be fair and the staff we're all great.

This is a basic hostel. Our private room was fine, and I would say the price matched the quality. All staff were nice, some were particularly lovely. The "free breakfast" was a complete disappointment. Loaves of bread beside a toaster and boiled eggs to peel, was not what I was expecting. It is also really packed and rowdy in the mornings and not in a friendly communal way. Recommend avoiding the kitchen for breakfast, plenty of coffee shops nearby. Would recommend this hostel if you just want a basic place to crash near enough to the centre.

Great staff and good localization, very noisy at night, however. If you have any problem with sleeping, you can get the ear plugs for free at reception! Rooms are clean and typical for a London hostel - many 2-level beds in one room. You can lock your luggage in special cage under bed with your locker. The bathrooms were less nice and not convenient (very small). You get 10 % discount in the hostel cafe and bar, which sells good food and drinks.

At first I booked for 2 days, as I wasn’t sure if I’d like it (based on older reviews about cleanliness). In the end, I stayed for 3 weeks and I was sad to leave! The team do a good job of cleaning 7 days a week, the atmosphere is friendly, the location is second to none (in London) and the price won’t be beaten elsewhere. You do get what you pay for, so don’t expect The Ritz at £20 a day, but with free breakfast, hot showers, fresh sheets and friendly staff, it’s £20 well-spent. On the weekends it’s in the middle of ‘party central’ in Shoreditch, so if an early night is your aim, it’s probably best to try to book a room away from the street. Earplugs and an eye mask are essentials if you’re in a shared dorm too. Altogether, I’d recommend The Dictionary Hostel as the best value accommodation in London with the added bonus of lovely people too.

The staff was really nice and the building was beautiful. The room was a bit small but it had spirit and I found it really cute. The shower was cold and the bathroom smelled bad. There was also a lot of children which we were not expecting, and a lot of times they were hanging out in the stairways making it sometimes hard to get past. The thing that we found horrifying was that when you leave your luggage there, anyone has access to it. Even though you are given a number for them, anyone can just walk up there and pick up any luggage they want. Overall a nice hotel. Best for those travelling in a group or those who want to meet new people.

Located in Shoreditch, very good for nightlife fans. All people at reception had a very relaxed attitude. 16-bed room(s) are too crowded and with only 1 shower. It also has only one small window and it does not get enough air. The hostel has an inner courtyard which gets loud at night. If your room faces the yard - bad luck. Toilets are not very clean. The shower in the room was definitely not clean and full of towels, clothes and cosmetics left by tourists. Breakfast is included in the price - the kitchen is small and gets crowded in the morning tough.

A decent experience, but the shower in one of the dorms was very slowly draining and there was a fair amount of mold in the shower. It was very warm & stuffy in mid-June, and the streets are a bit noisy, as it is located on a busy street. Beds and bedding were clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful instructing where to get food and find the train station.

Each and everybody at this hostel from staff to guest, cleaners, volunteers and even the coffee shop next door. Make the Dictionary Hostel one of the best hostels I have stayed in. Why? Without the people the place would be full of character but without life and soul. That why the people make it. Does it have a down side, yes. Not the cheapest and very noisy at times outside. Oh and no hot breakfast option. Curtains for beds and a personal bedside light and USB plug sockets would be great. That's it. The ups are the fantastic location, ease of access to overground/underground lines and central London within minutes. A fantastic kitchen, fridge/freezer? , microwave, cooker, hobs, storage!!! Free 😜 The beds are made, clean, comfortable and rooms are being refurbished. The 10 bed room is 4* could be 5 with changes above. Could ask for £1 more 🤔 Hostel Pub crawls with discounted discounts on certain days....relaxing atmosphere... Free wifi.... Social.... Free book library.... Knowledgeable, helpful staff and guests.... Lots more. Nice environment but bathrooms were a bit dirty or not working well. Some staff members were very helpful while others just seemed to want to socialize with each other, guests/ hospitality were not put on the forefront. Overall, good place for the price and in a lively area.

Great location, basic facilities, decent security, reasonable pricing. The noise from the street was inescapable in our bedroom. We had an four-bunkbed room and with eight of us in it it was essential to keep the windows open for temperature and odour control. Noise pollution from outside and interior hallways was a bit of a distraction from sleep. The showers and toilets were at an OK standard of cleanliness however there was a very frustrating moment on a Saturday morning between 10AM and midday where there was barely any water in the building's system to fuel showers. I personally spent 15 minutes standing in a shower to use approximately one minute worth of water, split between three short bursts of pressure. Very surprising insufficient water system for a city centre hostel.

Stayed here for two nights while visiting a friend. The rooms were clean and tidy, however we did have a major leak in our room. It was resolved by the staff putting buckets on the floor to catch the water. For the price you can't really complain. Reception is open 24 hours so can come and go whenever you please and the bar next door was the cheapest pint we found!

Troy is great for morning coffee and Sainsburys down the street is handy for lunch bits. The room i stayed in was very spacious. We hadn't had any prior warning about this before we got there even though they had our phone/ e-mail details. We could hear the music and people until 3am.

Not recommended if you want a guaranteed good night's sleep - which is surely the main point of a hostel. My room was overlooking the garden of the bar next door where the clientele were shouting at the tops of their voices till long after 2am. But you may be lucky :)

Incredible nice people at the reception and all the basics you need to stay a while, including a simple breakfast. Sheets were clean, but really nothing else in the room, even after we asked for a "deep cleaning", it was dusty and the bathroom stank from the mold on the walls. Therefore -2 stars.

Dictionary Hostel is friendly and clean, which are the two most important things in my experience. Like any hostel, you share a room with other travelers, and it can be noisy as people are all on different schedules. I arrived after being rained out on a camping trip. Since I was traveling alone, it was great to come to such a friendly and hospitable place (Ellie is awesome) in such a great location.

The receptionists (2 female) were very helpful and friendly. Great location. Breakfast was ok but there were many choices which is always nice. A bit dirty and noisy. However, price-quality it was as expected!

Centrally located in Stratford London, close to London bridge. Rooms were small but descent, I stayed in 4 & 6 bedded rooms, clean and comfortable. Washroom were also hygienic to use. Staff especially Roman were very helpful, breakfast is amazing with plenty of variety. Luggage storage facility is also available. You have to pay 5 pounds refundable security deposit initially, pad locks are available for 5 pounds, ear-plugs are free of cost.

This hostel is in a great part of Shoreditch - so many great local places and really easy to commute to other parts of London. The staff are really friendly, always available, made things easy and gave me some good recommendations to explore the area. The Wi-Fi was also fantastic. The hostel itself however felt like it could've been cleaner. To be fair, I was there at a time when it was unusually hot in London so maybe that has something to do with it. But the images to advertise the hostel definitely did not match the level of cleanliness that I experienced. Particularly the shared kitchen was consistently messy, and I would've liked to use it at some point, but because it was so messy it never appealed. The rooms as well felt like they could've been more clean. In my room there was a great little table to put things, but the surface of it was pretty gross and no one ever cleaned it. A super easy job and I was tempted just to buy spray and wipe just to clean it myself. I also felt there could've been more power points and USB port in the rooms. I have been to other hostels where every bed has its own USB ports and power point, so that would've made my experience better there if they had that. There also weren't any power points in the bathrooms either. The bathrooms themselves were also quite small. Quite noisy at night because it is in the heart of Shoreditch, sometimes was a little difficult to sleep but the location is worth it. All in all if a couple of improvements were made (even if it was just adding more power points and cleaning the kitchen more often), this would be an excellent place to stay and I would definitely go back.

Beds are comfortable, pillows are too thin. Staff are friendly and helpful but showers are not very clean with only cold water. Toilets are fine but on my floor, only two if the three are working.

I stayed in room M with 15 other people, with two full bathrooms between us. The room and bathroom were not very clean (stains on the walls), but that was the only big issue I had. The staff was kind and while the free breakfast was simple (toast and cereal), it was better than nothing. It is next to bus stops for easy access to town, and next to clubs and bars, which can be ideal if that is your thing, or they can keep you up at night.

The hostel has a nice vibe and great location in the hipster area of London. They provide breakfast, luggage room, laundry, maps, etc. The wifi is free and fast. The staff is friendly and really helpful. The rooms and showers are clean! You can cook in the kitchen, chill out on roof terrace, chat with other guests in the lounge and more things. The hostel itself is pretty nice, but depending on the weather it can get pretty hot inside. The personal will try their best to fix this with fans and such, but it won't always work. The complimentary breakfast isn't really something to write home about, but it's enough to fill your belly.

I've never been in such an amazing hostel before! It is in the Center of shoreditch and you can just walk out the door and the real life of london begins! The interior Design is amazing as well, very urban and beautiful. The staff is pretty nice as well. And the rooftop terrace is amazing. I can really recommend it!

I stayed close to a week. It has good facilities, nice big kitchen, 24 hour reception, friendly helpful staff and free wifi. The shoreditch area is a good area with lots happening. It's near a few tube stations and bus stops. Things to improve on, WiFi is bit patchy, they have a cage underneath the bed but 1 of them had a lid that kept crashing down and hit my head a few times. Pros out weight the cons. PRO -Great location to stay in Shoreditch. Close to a lot of bars and restaurants. Large hostel with many rooms and places to chill. Roof top patio, common area with tables. Wifi almost everywhere. Great resource wall with all the happenings of the area and city. ATM and sim card available in building. CON- The dust bunnies have taken over. They need to clean more thoroughly and empty garbages more often. Some staff were friendly, others not so much. Improve bag security.

The Dictionary Hostel is in a great location in Shoreditch with the bus stop right out side the front door and plenty of bars within walking distance. Their facilities include sturdy bunk beds with cages underneath, though not all of them can be locked to secure your belongings. A down stairs kitchen area with plenty of gear to make a home cooked meal if you feel the need and comes a TV with Netflix for your entertainment. Good high speed Internet and cozy common room next to reception with a foosball table for all the socialites.

The room that I was in was occupied by someone from Australia that was actually living there. The staff were pretty helpful but I got the impression they were sometimes tying too hard to be cool in front of the gap-yahh ozzies who were visiting while I was there. Definitely worth staying here.

Hello my name is Tippy, and I’m a small brown mouse that lives in the dictionary hostel in Shoreditch. Bring some type of ear plugs as it gets pretty noisy at night if your room is shared with the main road. I would not recommend it even if you only need a place to crush for a shot visits.

It's a bog standard backpackers and certainly not worthy of being rated so highly by the Sunday Times, et al. We were told that breakfast was open until 11am on a sunday but as we arrived just after 10am we found this was not the case. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to go to it again next year.

I got a bit zzz during work and needed a place to nap before driving. Service here was good, very helpful and understanding as they gave me an empty room as I said I needed to stay only for an hour or two. I would return if ever I need a place to stay.

Value for money was good. The room (2 bed room with own bathroom) was very tiny. One bunk bed and hardly space to move. Towels were forgotten to be put in the room. Service was on the point and quick. Location is good in the middle of Shoreditch. Quite some walking to the next subway 🚇 (old street). Free breakfast was included (egg toasts were tasty) and some instant coffee and tea.

(Translated) The location is good if you want to explore East London. The next subway station (Old Street) is about 10 minutes' walk away, but we mostly took the bus and it basically leaves the door. There are quite a few bars and restaurants in the area and the highly recommended Broadway Market is within walking distance. Our room was rather spartan. But it was enough to sleep and the mattress was surprisingly comfortable. We had a room at the back, i.e. it was very quiet (at least as far as the noise from outside was concerned). It's definitely too loud on the street. If you show a little tolerance towards young people - we are no longer in our mid-twenties ;-) and make some compromises in terms of comfort, the hostel is definitely recommended. And here are a few more points that bothered us a bit, but couldn't spoil the trip - we are very tolerant and our frustration limit is a little higher ;-) - The fire alarm went off (wrongly !!!) on two consecutive nights. Nothing happened, but we were awake anyway - The cleanliness of the room could be improved. It was obviously wiped wet before our arrival, but only in the easily accessible places. A look under the bed revealed a layer of dust several months old (so it could be problematic for allergy sufferers). We also cleaned the shelf of dust and hair before we put anything on it. - The showers were clean but not new. With the water supply on the top floor, however, there were problems when too many people showered at the same time (on the first day I was soaped in the shower and there was no more water). (Original) Die Lage ist gut, wenn man Londons Osten erkunden will. Die nächste U-Bahn-Station (Old Street) ist zwar ca. 10 Geh-Minuten entfernt, wir sind aber meistens Bus gefahren und der fährt quasi vor der Tür. In der Umgebung ist einiges an Kneipen und Restaurants vorhanden und der sehr empfehlenswerte Broadway Market ist in Laufnähe. Unser Zimmer war eher spartanisch. Zum Schlafen hat es allerdings gereicht und die Matratze war überraschend bequem. Wir hatten ein Zimmer nach hinter raus, d.h. es war sehr ruhig (zumindest was den Lärm von Draussen anging). Zur Straße ist es definitiv zu laut. Wenn man etwas Toleranz gegenüber jungen Leuten zeigt - wir selbst sind nicht mehr Mitte zwanzig ;-) und einige Abstriche bzgl. Komfort macht, ist das Hostel auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert. Und hier noch ein paar Punkte, die uns zwar etwas gestört haben, uns den Trip aber nicht vermiesen konnten - wir sind sehr tolerant und unser Frustrationsgrenze liegt etwas höher ;-) - An zwei aufeinander folgenden Nächten ging der Feueralarm (fälschlicherweise!!!) los. Ist zwar nix passiert, aber wach waren wir trotzdem erstmal - Die Sauberkeit des Zimmers war eher verbesserungswürdig. Es wurde zwar vor unserer Ankunft offensichtlich nass gewischt, allerdings nur an den leicht zugänglichen Stellen. Ein Blick unter das Bett offenbarte eine mehrere Monate alte Staubschicht (für Allergiker könnte es also problematisch werden). Auch das Regal haben wir erstmal von Staub und Haaren befreit bevor wir was drauf legten. - Die Duschen waren sauber, aber nicht neu. Mit der Wasserversorgung im obersten Stockwerk gab es allerdings Probleme, wenn zu viele Leute gleichzeitig geduscht haben (am ersten Tag stand ich gleich mal eingeseift unter der Dusche und es kam kein Wasser mehr).
