One of the best places I've ever stayed in. The entire hotel is absolutely lovely. The beautiful decor takes you back in time and the common lounge areas are so cosy I hardly wanted to leave the hotel during the day. The room is fantastic and the bed is so soft and comfortable. The staff are wonderful! They are all so kind and friendly and they were a big help to a solo traveller like me. Breakfast cost extra and is served to the room. I had lunch and dinner as well and the food is amazing. And Bagheera the house cat is so nice to be around!

Wow , had the most wonderful eve/morning at the rookery in 1 of the junior suites last night.
Wanted to give a big shout out to the staff who were sooo helpful, sweet and nothing was too much trouble !
The rookery was a little feast for the eyes.
We created some lovely pictures and Polaroids, and what a wonderful backdrop! So atmospheric, like stepping back in time, but not lacking in today's quality of luxury
Thanks so so much
And I'm definitely keen to come back to 1 of these hotels
See you again soon ❤

A lovely experience. Even has a house cat!

We had an excellent experience at the Rookery back in April 2018.
The staff were super friendly and helpful, I lost my cellphone during a cab ride and the front desk lady used their land-line to help me and waited till it was returned, I am very grateful. The in-room breakfast was also exceptional, lot's of warm, well-made bread and pastries with fresh juice and tea, good value and quality.
The rooms were extremely charming, with canopy bed and Victorian style furnishings.
There were even black umbrellas available for guests to use in London's rainy days.

My wife and I stayed for two nights in 2015 and found the hotel, its amenities, service and staff exemplary in all regards. The room was furnished and appointed with lovely, antique furniture, artwork and books, mainly from the Victorian era. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast service was out-of-this-world! The hotel is tucked away in a walking side street of Clerkenwell and close to such interesting sites as St. Paul's Cathedral, Museum of St. John's, Saint John's Priory Church, the historic Smithfield Market, etc. Prices are steep, but well worth the experience!

Quirky, characterful hotel. Our room was small but perfectly formed. The furnishings are unique to each room, lots of antiques. Very comfortable bed. The shower had a beautiful copper surround, even the toilet was a throne!! Helpful, friendly staff.

Excellent service and the building has a lot of character. Their old book collection is impressive, and the breakfast in bed is a godsend. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the Mary Lane room on our wedding night and the staff at the Rookery made us feel very much at home. When we checked in, they asked us when we'd like our complimentary bottle of champagne. We couriered our bag earlier in the day and found it waiting for us in the room. We'd selected the hotel because despite a similar price point to nearby competitors, we wanted to stay somewhere with a bit of charm and character - and we weren't disappointed. The room service breakfast was simple but luxurious, the attendant was very attentive, and we really enjoyed relaxing in a hot bath under a skylight. It's in a great area with everything on its doorstep.

Fantastic place to stay for a London weekend. Had a junior suite which was full of character. Receptionist and staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend / will stay again!

Very nice hotel! Great staff - very attentive and helpful. The rooms are old-style, but well maintained and not run-down. Most have amazing stand-alone bathtubs, which we loved.

Simply the best hotel in London and I have had the privilege of staying in many fine hotels. Comfortable but not flashy, filled with antiques but not fussy. And books everywhere. Old and sometimes rare books are ever present. Who could ask for more? Breakfast you say? Best bacon roll in England, no question. Chibata saturated in quality butter topped with superb artisan bacon. I almost don't want to tell people about this haven of calm and quality it is so good.

We stayed here for two nights (5th & 6th July ). This was our second time, although the first was many years ago. The Rookery is a delightful boutique hotel steeped in history. Public areas are very well kept and beautifully clean. Staff are so friendly and very helpful. The room we were in was called the Rooks Nest. It has two floors. The bedroom is very spacious with a free standing bath and shower. The upstairs has settes and a writing desk. It also has a retractable floor so that you can look down into the bedroom. Both rooms have a television and a well stocked mini bar. We would definitely recommend this hotel and in particular this room. Our only niggle would be that there is no tea and coffee making facilities in the room, however, the room service is excellent. Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay enjoyable.

Nice historic hotel with thematic rooms. I enjoyed my stay although my room was on the 3rd floor without lift, which was a bit annoying as I had heavy luggage. Room prices are quite expensive.
Very nice and quiet location in London, just next to the Smithfield market (photos).

Very unique hotel in the middle of London. I wouldn't recommend it for business travel (which was the purpose of my visit), as it lacks the normal amenities associated with hotels. No free breakfast, and staff's knowledge of the surrounding area is limited at best. Still, a lot of history associated with the place, and it feels like it would be a very authentic British experience for those traveling for pleasure.

Really enjoyed the stay here. Service is outstanding. Extremely friendly, thoughtful and proactive. Double bed is rather small but that's maybe just the authentic way to fit in to the vintage design.
Area has plenty of restaurants for meals and a handful of pubs for drinks.
S. R.
Very quaint hotel with lots of character, located just off a lively street. You definitely get a feeling of London. Excellent touches like a tea tray in the afternoon. Breakfasts are great and delivered to your room, although you can have them downstairs as well.
J. K.
Excellent service and the building has a lot of character. Their old book collection is impressive, and the breakfast in bed is a godsend. Would definitely stay here again.

I wanted to give this 5 stars because the service is impeccable, the room was gorgeous and the bed was very comfy. The whole place feels effortlessly classy. However one star is lost because our room was next to the street. With Smithfield market nearby, at 2am a lorry parked up. I think it might've been filling up with the meat supply for the whole of the South of England because it wasn't really possible to get back to sleep properly with the bashing and banging noises going on. Ask for a room on the quiet side. It's probably fine at the weekend.

Ok,now I'll be honest here. I didn't actually stay in this hotel, but poped in to see a relative who was staying here. From what I saw, wow.
What a bueatiful cosy hotel in the middle of the city. You step through the front door, and your transported back in time, but in a great way.
It's so nice, and not your run of
the mill corporate style hotel's.
And i must mention james, who works there on the night shift.
He made us coffee and tea.
And made us feel so welcome.
Like i said, it was just a visit, but i would definitely stay here on a night out in London.

Lovely hotel, totally individual and romantic, stayed for our wedding and was a lovely end to the day. They even left us a small bottle of fizz for when we got back. Only downside is you have to pay your own brekkie, limited menu, but it's quite tasty. The staff are friendly and helpful.

My son, daughter and I stayed at the Rookery for 3 nights (Nov. 22, 23 & 24th), and each of us had our own rooms. The decor was enchanting, the beds were comfortable and the staff could not have been more accommodating. The breakfast, each morning, was a real treat and started our day off perfectly. I would definitely return to this lovely little hotel, so convenient to seeing London easily.
D. T.
It was a traditional English styled hotel, and you can have your breakfast brought to your room or in their garden, which was a charming way to start the day. Staffs were always cheery and helpful, and they have a resident cat too!

Unfortunately, the Rookery Hotel did not live up to expectations when we stayed late in 2012. After living nearby for several years, we moved away and had an opportunity to stay at the hotel one evening after an event in the City. Though low-key, the service was respectable when checking in and out. The issue was with the rooms - and maybe it was just out particular room. The temperature was difficult to control (too warm) and the room itself wasn't comfortable. I would not recommend this to friends.

I LOVE this hotel: elegant 18th century style with beautiful and elegant furnishings , luxurious bathrooms, comfortable beds. A quiet oasis close to the Barbican ( great for concert-goers), and Farringdon station. A peaceful place to relax completely in these sumptuous interiors. Delicious breakfast in bed, too!
A. B.
A lovely experience. Even has a house cat!
Z. H.
The front desk service was very good. 24 hour assistance, and they were quite helpful with our luggage and late check in. The room was comfortable with interesting decor. The self service lounge bar was an interesting touch.

Best hotel in London in terms of charm and location and a fantastic honesty bar/lounge. Very sorry to see Lady Grey the cat has passed on but nice to meet moody Bhagheera who looks like a great successor...
M. K.
Perfect place to stay in London! The rooms are cosy and gorgeously decorated. The service is fantastic and the owner aka Barghera is a gem. Perfect in every way!
A. B.
Plenty of charme in this cute little hotel. Service also good. Unfortunately the luck of a proper FandB is what is causing me to give it only 4 stars. Pity as they have a cute little garden at the back, and having a restaurant rather than a honesty bar would have been better.
J. O.
We had just one night with the team at the Rookery although the bed was a little small for my 6 foot partner the room was fab, the staff were amazing and the location was a great base to explore Clerkenwell, we will be back for sure. The honesty bar and resident lounge is a great place to relax after a night at the O2.
P. D.
Great location with beautiful and quirky period rooms, plenty of restaurants around. Staff excellent and attentive. Would definitely visit again . Only minor gripe was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room

I stayed 5 nights recommend from my husband. And it was wonderful atmosphere make me feel as if I was back in the 1920's/30's❣️ Fine bed room and bath room, kindly staff, and good location, so recommended for the vacation trip.

When I arrive in the room I was speechless, by far one-off the best hotels I have stayed in! The rooms have lots of characters and we definitely feel like home there! The common rooms are very cosy and warm. I definitely recommend this hotel for special occasions!
D. S.
A wonderfully comfortable and quirky hotel within spitting distance of Smithfields. The room I stayed in had old church carvings in it which made it very atmospheric. Service was highly attentive. The lounge is just like being at home.

Genuinely different hotel with an amazing atmosphere. Stayed in a suite (sir Walter de Manny ??) And was absolutely astonished. Beautiful place. Already recommended it to my friend who enjoyed his stay just as much as me.
R. L.
Loved this atmospheric Hotel, if your looking for a unique place to stay that takes you back in time , then this is it , beautiful rooms and fantastic staff , especially Stelio who made us feel so at home , the house cat Bagheera is the boss and adds a touch of mystery to this wonderful place .
R. N.
Lovely rooms; great service. But bathroom lacks a proper shower and the noise from Smithfield market is constant, disrupting sleep.
M. T.
The most amazing hotel I've ever stayed in, it's like a step back in time yet right next to the tube. Love this place

I loved the decor here. The parking was a ten minute walk away and our room was on the fourth floor but it still was a cool place to stay.
S. S.
Cute hotel, great staff. The neighbourhood is much better during the week. Insufficient water pressure on the third floor.
D. H.
My London digs, going on four years. I love the staff and the historic buildings, the luxury defined by Classic British style. Wonderful.
R. K.
Beautiful, quirky hotel, very friendly staff and a quite gloriously sumptuous atmosphere in short a little gem

An amazing hotel in a great part of London. Friendly and helpful staff and a gorgeous room. I'll definitely be returning!

an excellent boutique hotel near Smithfield market with great rooms, and relaxing and cosy lounges to chill out in (with an honesty bar for use by residents !)

(Translated) I recommend this hotel in every respect. The structure is well cared for, clean and well furnished with antiques. On the ground floor there are several small rooms with sofas and armchairs, where you can have breakfast, read or have tea. The room we had was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was large and clean. The staff is very kind and ready. to satisfy every request. The cost is obviously high, but clearly deserved. It is also just a two minute walk from Farringdon tube and thameslink station and is close to all kinds of eateries for dining.

(Translated) Beautiful restored hotel in central location, subway stat. 2 min. Away, restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The reception is open 24 hours and the staff always friendly and helpful. The hotel is very lovingly designed in the old English style, if you are looking for a modern decor, this is wrong. Bed very comfortable, room quiet.

Wunderschönes restauriertes Hotel in zentraler Lage, U - Bahn Stat. 2 Min. entf., Restaurants in unmittelbarer Nähe. Die Rezeption ist 24 Std. besetzt und das Personal stets freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Hotel ist sehr liebevoll im alten englischen Stil gestaltet, wer eine moderne Einrichtung sucht, ist hier falsch. Bett sehr bequem, Zimmer ruhig.

(Translated) A very pleasant and warm space. We encountered some technical problems (safe and air conditioning) but each of them found a solution quickly and with a smile.
A big plus for the "honesty bar" which allows you to help yourself in the living room and to taste your beer in the private garden accompanied by the house cat (and maybe foxes!)
