P. R.Wow! Unexpected find on our way back from the Imperial War Museum. We wanted a quick bite & beer and stopped off at The Steam Engine after checking out their burger menu. We had the Cheesus Christ & the Hot and Dirty… both were absolutely fantastic, legit great burgers. Nice beef, soft bun, and they cooked them to a perfect medium at our request.
Staff were very friendly & nice… couldn’t ask for any more really. If you are in the area, give this pub a try. They prepare a great burger and the prices are reasonable with friendly service.
Side note: we really wanted to try their Christmas Pudding burger but we were a little late in the year and they had stopped serving it. Big points for originality on the concept though!
F. D.A great hostel of the PubLove chain, very good location and affordable prices for the hostel. The rooms are clean and cleaned daily. The pub have a good selection of drinks and coffee & tea. Have to try their tasty burgers. If something can be mentioned as a con it would be the toilets need more attention to tiding up especially at morning.

Breakfast was good, had the breakfast wrap and the yogurt pot,coffee and tea both nice.
It is staffed day and night and you can get food and drink at time, which I was very gratefull of especially at 5am.
Nice place, great staff who are very friendly and helpful, lovely stay, would use again.

lovely freind staff with yummy food... we had the double room with onsuite it has a great overhead walk in shower very clean room and even has a view of the "London eye".... Great location for exploring London 10 mins to Parliament and right next to Imperial War Museum, just 0.5m from Wateroo station....A big thank you to all the staff for making it a Great stay.
M. M.Location is awesome, the Big Ben is somewhat 15 minutes away, charming victorian building has recently being refurbished - rooms and shared areas are near to neat. Also staff is beyond any praise: 10 in 10 case they were friendly, polite and eager to pour hot water for noodles or teas.

The room was quiet and the bed was cozy, everything was clean inside the room and the locker provided enough space for my stuff. The bathrooms were very clean, considering the number of people who used them and the WiFi was fast.
The location of the Hostel was amazing. Super close to the underground, bus stations and in walking distance (around 20 to 30 Minutes) to some sights in London.
In total I have nothing to complain about. The only thing that would be cool is some kind of room for the hostel visitors only, to socialize and meet the others.
M. F.A great hostel, I have visited several times because of the friendly staff and the general set up. Guests get discounts on food and drink, beds are convey and enclosed for privacy, and the wash room facilities are ample and we'll kept. A nice range of craft beer on offer too and a comfortable atmosphere throughout.

K. F.The staff is beyond nice and the pub itself is good, but the rooms are grimey and humid. The heat was turned way up throughout the hostel rooms and it was uncomfortable. The rooms are cramped and you feel crammed in like sardines. The bathrooms are very basic and a little old. You have to share two bathrooms among a bunch of people, so it's difficult to find time to shower. There are no surfaces to put your things when getting ready. The bathroom is just a toilet, a sink, and a shower. This was the most expensive hostel I stayed in when I was in Europe and it was the lowest quality hostel I stayed in. For what you pay I don’t think it’s worth it. I also don’t think the building is designed to comfortably accommodate as many guests as they get. I think they could benefit from a renovation and making the hostel more comfortable for its guests.
J. M.Stayed for 3 nights and had a great stay. The beds were comfortable, although the rooms got very hot at night. Facilities were clean.
All staff were friendly and approachable, and gave great service. We were served by James at the pub most evenings, and he was always wonderful. Food and drinks were great, especially with his suggestions.
Overall I'd definitely recommend!

Two nights. It’s cheaper to book the accommodation via Airbnb than other site. The bar is open 24 hours before lockdown for its customer who stay there. Current until 12am.
B.This was the first time I've ever stayed in a hostel. It's really cheap compared to a hotel but as a tourist all you ever need is a bed, a restroom and a shower. The room is rather small but it servers it's purpose very well. We had a lot of contact with the people in our room and met some great people. There is a free luggage locker and the staff is more than happy to open it up for you to store your luggage. They stand near to see that you don't touch other guests luggage so it's more than definitely safe there. The staff are all super approachable and very friendly! So don't be afraid to approach them if you have any questions. There is also a discount in the pub for the guests and the food and variety is more than okay! I had problems with my heart at night which had me concerned but there is someone in the pub 24/7 and he helped me out so much! He gave a free beverage and took such good care of me. It's located near the bus stop and the underground. Everything is very accessible. I had a really great experience and will surely come back here!
C. L.This little hole in the wall was a lovely place to stay. The rooms had plenty of space. The washroom and showers were clean and never were broken. The discount on food and drinks at the bar was alright. However, there was not much selection of food due to it being primarily a pub. The staff were very helpful and friendly and I have no concerns regarding them. My only concern with this place was it’s location. It was not close to downtown London, Westminster, or the eye. When I say this, it was a decent walk to all of these places. If you are okay with that, then it wasn’t too bad. But if you are spending a short amount of time in London, it would be better to stay closer to the main attractions. Overall, it was a good place. I wouldn’t stay there again because I believe there are better options for similar prices.

M. K.I visited London two years , and I stopped by to eat at the Steam Engine Waterloo . I had a Caesar salad . The food tasted so delicious not only the taste but I was impressed with the hygiene level of the kitchen and the freshness of the ingredients . If you are looking for a healthy delicious food, the steam engine is the right venue for you .

D. S.I loved staying here and would definitely go back! The rooms are pretty good and my roommates were fortunately nice and the staff was really kind and helpful. The food in the bar tastes good and it's not expensive especially if you're staying in the hostel and use the discount they give.
The only negative thing I noticed was that the bathrooms could use an upgrade... They are pretty small and not really clean.
I would definitely go back and I can recommend it to anybody:)

They rocked the place and were all great at their jobs! Love that this hostel has a pub downstairs with local visitors! They offer food and drink discounts with your stay and have great Pizza! I would highly recommend a stay here just because the people you meet and encounter in and out of PubLove are all great! Its conveniently located close to the underground, bikes nearby to rent, and a not so bad walk to some of London's greatest attributes!
A. R.OK for the price, I guess.. Of two showers only one had warm water & of two toilets one had broken door. The pub staff was nice. If you happen to leave any items in the locker unlocked (like shower gel, toothbrush, lotion food..just stuff you put there for easier access, so you don't have to dig through your luggage everytime), the cleaning lady will throw them away. The location is in a pretty ok area, close to the subway and war museum. All in all, a mediocre, frugal experience.
s. p.For the price this place is amazing. Very well located near the london bridge and train stations. You sleep above a busy pub so you can come downstairs and grab a pint after you drop off your bags. Very clean, beds are sturdy. Nice staff as well!

A.Best burger in London - until they took it off the menu. The Chef, special lamb shank burger was quite honestly the best burger i have had in our fine city and i like to think i have visited a solid amount of good London burger joints. I took a mate there to enjoy this burger only to find it had gone! We were most upset. Great pub though and good drink selection. Oh, and only decent breakfast around the area too. Coffee is good and portions are cracking.

J. S.I am a regular to the Pub Quiz on a Wednesday, feel I must counter Emily Tills negative review. Having been there that night, he didn't ask the men to say please because they always said please, had she not wanted to be singled out for being rude and demanding then she probably should remember that manners cost nothing. UNACCEPTABLE. She did not appear to raise the issue on the night, I feel her review is down to her team losing the quiz that night. It's a great quiz in a great pub with great staff. If you don't want people to be rude to you, don't be rude to them..

B. S.Only visited the pub, didnt experience the overnight stay. Nice, clean, large. The brews on tap were varied and sophisticated, the bar staff was friendly and courteous. The atmosphere is young, tolerant, unjudgmental. The popcorn chicken + spicy sauce was good enough for seconds.
S. Z.I've spent many a gin fuelled afternoon here. If you like your gin, I recommend this place highly as they serve 24 types of him all with different mixers which go down well. They also have good selection of craft beer and change the pumps regularly. The burgers here (even the vegetarian) are some of the best I've had. Thoroughly recommend the Farhouse burger which has bacon and a ducks egg. The bar itself is also nice and there's a fairly large garden area. There is a hostel above so if you stay late, you might bump into some travellers trying to relax which you may either love or hate. Would really recommend trying this place for beers and burgers with a handful of mates

V. M.Luca the manager was awesome, some how it got over booked and he took care of me and found a room for me. Super nice friendly guy! Elliot was a hoot. really funny friendly guy, super helpful, kept me entertained and he switched my bed when i was too scared to sleep on the top bunk. >.< Bera was super sweet and did a great job cleaning the rooms, i asked him if he could change my pillow case and he ended up changing my entire bed comforter and sheets. it was really nice of him. albert was super friendly and really warming, helped mw with whatever i needed and was great company since i was traveling alone. Aitor was really patient with me even after bugging him all the time and knew answers to all my questions. and daisy was really sweet as well, she helped me before i even had to ask when i looked confused as to where i was on the map. It was an overall really great experience. all the staff were amazing and anytime i go back to london this will be the only place i stay at. its super close to everything 15-20 min walk to london eye, 3 min walk to the tub. 15-20 to parliament, big ben, and westminster abbey. 3 mins to the imperial war museum. they have a bar downstairs thats open 24hrs for guests and 24hr pizza which is pretty good! i highly recommend it here!

M. A.Great stay, place was cost effective and clean. A bit more space was needed in the rooms for luggage but that's a small offset. One thing that must be mentioned though is the customer service skills. This place has got to have one of the best staff to look after their customers. We were baffled with how nice and friendly the first member was(I think he's eastern European) . Than there was the women who and a very funny Spanish guy. All were great. Highly Recommended.
j. h.Just round the corner from where i am staying in Lambeth and is one of my host’s local watering holes, but i never see him drink water though. We went down last night for a few pints and a burger. Pretty good pub, pretty standard but good wide range of beer and an extremely wide range of Gin if you are into that beverage.
Menu quite ok and had the burger with bacon plus fries and an avocado salad. Burger was fine and the salad was pretty good, a bit above and beyond the normal pub salad.
Tried a couple of different lagers which were not that brilliant but that will teach me to stick to what i know or India Pale Ale.
Service was quick and efficient and the whole meal a reasonable price.
Music was playing but not to loud so you can actually have a conversation. Worth the trip.

Very welcoming and great atmosphere, some really nice bartenders - Michael Remick is brilliant to talk to. They do look after you. Enjoyed the pub quiz too.
Great selection of food and drink - enjoyed the fish burger and chips, some of the seating areas have power sockets which were handy! The hostel itself reflected what you would get in London and has a traditional feeling to it which is great. A lot of hostels that I have been to are too contemporary and thus feels more like a student/profession, whereas I got to speak to others which was great as you wouldn't really get that in a typical hostel and people would usually keep themselves to themselves.
The pub/hostel is off the main road which is great as you don't hear traffic nor get the wrong type of crowd coming in. I have to admit that when it gets busy there is not much room but that's something they can't improve on due to the size of the pub. If it's busy, it's busy!
Would love to see them expand on a book collection, guest photo gallery (on a wall), addition of a piano/guitar would be great if they ever chose that as an option. This would also mean they could hold open mic sessions in the future if they chose to look into that. Some of the rooms could do with additional power sockets and small bed lighting - but I'm not complaining. Can't wait to see the refurbishment to the place next year! Especially the shower/toilet area. Though people have been complaining online about this, it still is functionable. However, I hope they install new showers. Would love to have more options for food during night time stay. Pizzas were lovely but maybe pasta would be great too or even soups etc. Would like to see a 20% discount instead of 10% or maybe a meal/deal as it can get pricey. Again I do expect that in London but I'm not complaining much about that.
PLEASE NOTE: that this pub displays it's opening hours. However, it is only 24/7 for those who stay at the hostel. This is very handy when other hostels to do not offer this as an option. Also don't expect it to be 5* hotel or something. It was the cheapest near central London so I was more than happy with what I paid for.
T. L.This is the second PubLove Pub that I've been to (other one near Euston station) and this was as good as the first one. The burgers are amazing (and big and probably quite unhealthy!). Service was good. It's a relatively small pub so finding a table can be tricky especially during lunch time. Definitely worth a visit if you're near by. Only a 5 min walk from the Imperial War Museum.
J. F.24 hours bar is always good. The bar was a good size with a snug, TV area, lots of sockets and a large outdoor area.
The rooms are standard in size and layout. Though no personal light and socket board on bed and no towel. There was also considerable "stuff" from and mess from other guests of the room.
J. R.Booked the steam engine as it was close to St Thomas hospital..had an appointment 8am the following morning. . Clean, basic and comfortable, but noisy, doors banging constantly and lots of chatting in the corridor... This is a hostel and so would recommend it for backpackers, but not for us..
J. C.Been here a bunch of times and will keep coming back for the burgers. I've had a lot of burgers in London but the Juicy Bastard tops them all. My absolute favourite anywhere. The Steam Engine always has an excellent selection of beers (IPAs, bitters etc) and a good selection of gins too.

H.Don't expect much from the bedrooms, there's no AC and the experience wasn't exactly comfortable during summer. The pub is really nice though and they make some delicious meals!

Feel I should correct the review by "Karen Baillieu", the quiz has always started by 8 (the guy travels up from Brighton, is usually there before me unless the trains are late) and I have never known it to go past 10:30pm.

Met wonderful people also staying at this establishment and attractions are walkable from this location. I would definitely stay again.

M. B.I've been there for two nights and I like it very much. There is a pub downstairs that is open to the public. There isn't many services offered to guests, for example, if you want a towel you should buy it (5£). Another positive thing is proximity to Big Ben, London Eye and other attractions.

M. B.It’s a hostel that does its job without any bells or whistles. The fact it’s attached to the Pub makes it hard to have a hostel social vibe if you don’t want to pay pub prices for food and drinks. The hostel is limited by its lack of facilities found in the better hostels around.

S. O.Stumbled on this boozer with my brother on the Sunday afternoon after Christmas. It's tucked away so it's location (as well as time of day) probably contributed to it being quiet. Definitely a nice pub to have a drink in. They seem to specialise in burgers but alas I wasn't hungry enough to tackle one of these, although we did have a jug of chips and tatter-totts (which were excellent). I'll definitely be back if I'm in this part of town.

i. V.A new diner that is part of the masterful 'Burger Craft' chain. I went to the 'green man' in paddington and had the best burger of my life. However the surroundings weren't that great, it was 'your average pub'. The steam engine though is more astecally pleasing and the burger is just as good. A must visit for all burger enthusiasts.

It has lockers, but the locker must be the user to bring one. Each locker accommodates a handbag and has space for another backpack and some clothes. The locker is in strong mesh. The cushions and coverings are good. The mattress too. Due to the high number of people, the space is very busy, so the night is not very quiet. Each room is closed with an electronic card given to each user. It only has a toilet for 4 rooms times 18 people.

O hostel oferece três camas por beliche, no piso um. Contem com algum barulho de música do pub até á uma da manhã. Pior é a sexta, sábado e domingo. Cada quarto acomoda 18 pessoas. Tem cacifos, mas o aloquete, tem de ser o utilizador a levar um. Cada cacifo acomoda uma mala de mão e tem espaço para mais uma mochila e alguma roupa. O cacifo é em rede forte. As almofadas e a coberta é boa. O colchão também. Devido ao elevado número de pessoas, o espaço é muito movimentado, logo a noite não é muito tranquila. Cada quarto é fechado com cartão eletrônico dado a cada utilizador. Tem apenas um WC para 4 quartos vezes 18 pessoas.
O WC tem quatro chuveiros e 2 casas de banho, logo vai haver períodos de pico, com muita gente á espera. O Pub é muito bom e o o staff muito simpático. A limpeza é boa.

La propreté des WC et des douches varie en fonction des personnes qui sont passées avant vous, donc si elles sont sales ce n'est pas forcément la faute du Hostel. The welcome is friendly, we are given all the explanations at the beginning we have a small card with the entry code plus a code for our room so for beginners in genesse inn it is reassuring. The rooms are clean (4 room). The showers are clean (2 showers; 2 toilets upstairs and 2 on the ground floor). For sleep nothing to say I was not was to wake up partiers. Breakfast is simple and at will and (cereal and toast, jam, tea, coffee juice, etc.) it is included when you take a night. There is a metro station 5 minutes away on foot so getting around is super convenient. A 15 min walk is the river with its restaurants and activities. There are shops 5 minutes walk (grocery stores and pharmacy). For all students who want to visit london i recommend this hostel. Personally I would stay here again on my next visit.

L'accueille est convivial on nous donne toutes les explications au début on a une petite carte avec le code de l'entrée plus un code pour notre chambre donc pour les débutants en auberge de genesse c'est rassurant . Le petit déjeuner est simple et à volonté et ( céréale et tartine confiture, thé Cafe jus..) il est compris quand on prend une nuitée. Il y a une station de métro à 5 min à pied donc pour ce déplacer c'est super pratique . A 15 min à pied on le fleuve avec ses restaurants et ces activités. Il y a des commerces à 5 min à pied ( épiceries et pharmacie ) . Pour tout les étudiants qui veulent visiter londre je recommande cette auberge . Personnellement je reviendrais ici à mon prochain séjour.
