Only £10 and I was absolutely stuffed. Not anything fancy, it’s basically a canteen but the food is tasty and the service friendly / efficient. Will certainly be coming again when I’m on for a good feed 👍

Excellent canteen, outstanding Indian food, this place offers truly authentic Indian food, big shout out to the chefs here. Discovered this place last week and ate here 3nights in a row with my husband, will be visiting again v soon. Just one recommendation, might be handy if you can publish your daily menu somewhere or perhaps even a weekly menu of planned in advance so that customers like myself can plan our visit based on which days our favourites are being served 😊

Nice place to stay on budget. Good food excellent location. Staffs are not very friendly though.
D. S.
This place has a canteen serving Indian dishes (veg and meat curries) and drinks (e.g. mango lassi) which is open to the public. The food and drinks are fantastic and very much affordable if you are on a budget.
d. s.
Have the basic required facilities, and the prices includes meals (Breakfast and Dinner) and VAT. Good option for short term stays, and they also have a long term stay options for which you call and check for the availability.
A. C.
Very good place for good value for money Indian food, either to eat or take away.
R. I.
Great curry served in a clean environment, a hidden gem for curry lovers, but don't expect a restaurant menu, this is home-style food on a canteen menu. As this is a Canteen, there are a lot of seats, but it does get busy, so expect to share tables. I first ate here in 1996 and it never fails to leave me feeling happy and contented.
S. B.
Great budget venue for rehearsals and hosting programmes. Some nice food to celebrate Indian festivals.
Rooms are a good value for tourists on a budget and students.
The authentic Indian food served in the canteen particularly attracts boarders and passers-by as well as local workers and good value for money.
Toilets are well maintained and clean and so is the dining area.

What a find! Was at UCHL for a late appointment, and had a long drive, so typed Indian into Google, and up popped the YMCA ISH.. Wasn't sure if I 'qualified' but thought why not. Well what a lovely surprise, a warm welcome, and a very inexpensive but tasty evening dinner was presented to me. Absolutely fantastic, and so tasty. I highly recommend, but shhhh don't tell everybody!!

While you expect what you get in terms of service given what you pay. Food is good and location is excellent at the centre of the city.

Nicely maintained place, good for conferences/meeting. Food was great

Well established for the need of Indian Youth Students

If you would like to try a good meal
This is the place

There is a great restaurant with tasty indian dishes, kind and friendly staffs at lovely place. Good price, clean.
J. P.
Very much enjoy going to the restaurant here. At lunchtime there is a good variety of dishes at a great price and in the evening you can choose from a smaller range for a set price of £9. I love the old school decor. The food is healthy and fresh.

The cafeteria for the YMCA student hostel is also run as a restaurant. You are likely to share a table with hardworking students grabbing a quick bite before they dig back into their books. The food is homely and really well cooked. Quite like the food you will fill in an Indian home. The chef's are always there serving the food with affection and ready to answer any question one may have. I am always struck with the pride they take in their food. It is a must if you want to experience home cooked Indian food in London.
J. J.
An oasis in the middle of the city and a good place to go for some excellent authentic Indian food.
R. A. K.
Great value. The accomodation rate includes a superb cooked dinner (Indian dishes) and breakfast (one cooked Indian dish plus continental).
I stayed in the 4-bed men's dorm. Simple, basic and functional. Wash basin in the room, no bunk beds and the 4 beds were in two joint rooms which provides reasonable privacy. There is a large lockable (you don't have to bring a lock) cupboard for each bed.
The heating worked and the location (though in a busy area) is down a quiet road so it was remarkably peaceful considering where it is.
I will definitely stay here again!
R. M.
Great place to stay if you are looking to for a clean, inexpensive place to stay - short or long term. Not for people looking to be pampered in the lap of luxury! They serve good, tasty Indian food - again not for people looking for a gourmet dining experience! The staff is friendly but remember they are follow a mix of Indian and British standards - so you are expected to be prim and proper!
This place is close to the heart of the city. Easy access to the underground railway.
You have to pay for wifi but it is not expensive and it's convenient if you want to save your mobile data.
H.
A really good place for curry. Non fuss, no balls, simple good Indian curry. Don’t expect restaurant standard, it is a canteen at the end of the day. Drop in for lunch, good selection of curry and side dishes. Really nice food. You can pay by card also. Price is no long very cheap as back in the year. But for lunch at central London. You can not get better value than that. Can get really busy during lunch time, so try to get there early.
S. R.
Authentic Indian food at affordable prices. Fixed menu, but the food taste is delicious. Kudos to the chef for maintaining consistency in taste. Neat, clean Indian restaurant in the center of London.
D. S.
Nnnnnorth of Soho...near UCLH...south of Euston Road...do they even sell food near here? Well, prepare to be pleasantly surprised, not only do they sell food near here, they have the Indian YMCA. It’s been on your list for years but you’re so rarely in northofsohonearuclhsouthofeustonroad that you began to think you would never get to eat here. Govindas-level cheapness:deliciousness ratio, by which I mean very cheap and very delicious. Not as many strange Indian snack/dessert/drink treats as you would like but you can’t complain. If your here for lunch and it’s sunny outside you might be tempted to do takeaway and eat it in that park opposite but you will be disappointed, it’s private, eat it at one of the tables on the terrace.
M. H.
Great experience! It's basically a canteen where you can get simple, relay authentic Indian food quickly and at a good price. Not pretentious and works well if your looking to feed a large group quickly. The outside dinning area is where you need to sit if the weather isn't playing up.
O. O.
The lunchtime menu was very substantial and good value. About £8-9 for rice, 2 different curries, poppadom and the waiter constantly brought over fresh water. There is plenty of seating and Monday afternoon wasn't too busy. There was plenty more seating outside but the weather wasn't good at the time. They accept card as well as cash so long as minimum value is £5.
D. B. P.
Best value Indian food for a good few miles. It is not spicy and the choice is basic. Two curries. One meat. One vegetarian. Rice and chapatti. Buffet style. Unlimited.
Little additions like tea and pickles on offer.
It's cheap and cheerful. With limited opening hours.
Worth visiting even if it is just for the experience. A little rough and chaotic India in London in all respects.
J. T.
The food canteen here is an absolute gem. Not only is it great value but the food is cooked to such a fantastic standard, I'm so happy every time I eat here. Because of the buffet like service, it's never particularly spicy, but that doesn't matter because the flavours are so good. And a good cup of tea! 👍🏽
N. H.
Amazing value for lunch/dinner at their restaurant. Great range of curry: mutton/chicken/fish/vegetable with daily specials and extremely cheap. They even have a nice outdoor area you can eat when the weather is nice. Perfect place to meet a friend in town for lunch on a budget
G. C.
It's pure simplicity, extremely flavorful meal, flat rate, eat what you like. No thrills, it's a little canteen (cafeteria) serving up authentic Indian food, you sit in a cafeteria with people from all over the world who are visiting London. Recommended.
S. T.
Great food and good facilities like common room and library for studying. The staff is friendly. Lunch and dinner is complementary which is another plus point. The location is the best as the place is 2 min walk from Warren Street and 7 min walk from great Portland street and Euston Square station which is very convenient. If you like to go out in fresh air then regents park is a 10 min walk. The rooms are quite small but all the other positive points weigh more than one negative.
D. C.
The food on offer is really good and authentic. Prices are low in a canteen style pay for what you want. The decor could be better but it all adds to the charm. Would recommend this to anyone wanting a cheap really tasty lunchtime curry off the beaten track.
R. L.
The canteen here is exceptional and a dying form of cheap, good quality food in London. Value for money is incredible. The curries are utterly delicious, light and fragrant. You join the queue, pick up a tray, get given a generous plate of rice, then you choose your curry and vegetable accompaniments and pay at the till. There’s no table service, no faux friendliness – it’s just a simple canteen experience, but really quite refreshing in this city.
M. M.
Excellent place to stay. Room was neat, clean and well maintained. Staff are very courteous , helpful and made us feel at home. Centrally located to most of the the tourist places of interest. Indian menu for breakfast and dinner was an added advantage . In short we never felt that we were too far away from India
B. V.
It would be the right place to stay, for those looking for affordable accommodation in London as with desi food. It is the fixed menu but the right choice of food for the authentically desi folks.
There are different range of accommodation, from common bath-toilet to one with the attached. The top most is quite spacious. The place is 5 minutes from Warren street station. Many other stations are also nearby.
J. C.
Been here for lunch a couple times. So far the most reasonably priced, decent Indian food I've had in Central London. There definitely are better restaurants out there, but you'll end up spending 2 to 4 times more, and it's definitely not worth that much.
G. H.
We went here to eat and what a lovely experience. Authentic Indian food for £8.50 and it's buffet style. The canteen / dining hall style resutuarant is simple no frills but the food is out of this world. Would visit again for sure. Fab organisation and fab food.
R. L.
Great food at lovely prices in a nice location. Went there for lunch and the food was fantastic, the dining room was functional more than formal but it had a lovely ambience and was full of diners enjoying a great meal. Highly recommended!
S. R.
Surprisingly plush dining chairs in these student halls! Resembles a school dining hall but don't let that fool you; the food is restaurant quality and you can get a chicken curry with rice and a drink for around £8. Accidentally stumbled upon this treasure and it's handy for work so I visit a couple times a week now. You're served very quickly but it's usually full between 1-2pm and you have to wait for a seat. There's also a terrace to eat out on in the summer which is a bonus. All in all great value for money.
A. U. U.
If you like home made like food, this the place. Good in taste but not very spicy and rich. It's spacious and affordable and they have decent variety ( not like a proper restaurants)
S. S.
Fantastic canteen style dining on offer, where a traditional Indian meal will set you back less than £5. Friendly and fast service, I would only wish for a slightly more traditional atmosphere inside. Recommended!
J. S.
£8 for a full Indian dinner meal- usually 2 veg dishes, dhal, a meat dish, rice and roti as well as desert and tea.
Superb value and rather nice food too. Great staff who will pack the food if you would rather take away.
Nice friendly atmosphere- a rare place this one...would be nice to have more of these around.
J. M.
Have not stayed here but go for lunch sometimes as it is close to work. Very quick self service food and very tasty. There's quite a good selection (not compared to if you go to a normal indian restaurant but still enough) and the portions are definitely big enough. You won't find an indian restaurant for cheaper too!
Y. M.
Came for their dinner and it was great for the price you pay! It's buffet style with 3 different types of vegetarian curry served at the price of £8.5. Would definitely come back
Y. D.
I am very happy to have discovered the canteen here. I decided that I was going to see if I could eat off a proper plate when and if I needed to eat in Central London due to the amount of waste generated by eating and drinking in cafes like Pret and Eat where everything is packaged. The evening meal is £8.00 and is excellent value. A full Indian meal with fruit and tea and it is possible to go back for more although it would not be possible to eat more. The meal includes rice, chicken curry, beans, salad, chapatti and soup. Very filling. Very nourishing.
k. k.
best curry and rice in London! and for 5 pounds only! you are not gonna get any where....food this good, and in the evenings they also have a all you can eat menu for 9 pounds!
G. G. A.
One of the best place to stay in Central London. People who have craving to eat Indian food would love their menu. Completely suggest this hostel. FYI I stayed in a deluxe room.
W. H.
One of the tastiest and cheapest lunches you can get in London. Amazing curry served in a hostel canteen, open to the public as well as guests. So nice.
A. E.
Went for dinner, no frills set meal £8.50, tasty basic Indian food. If you want to be reminded of the food from your Indian travels and aren't super fussy, definitely worth the money.
J. K.
Used the shared dorm for 3 nights. Enjoyed it. Comfortable and affordable. The Indian dishes served here are good. Clean rooms and wash facilities. Easily accessible via underground trains.
C. D.
If you want to feel like you’re in India, this is a great place to eat. Pay for your lunch/dinner in advance at the reception desk and then walk into the dining room where you can help yourself to the choice of curries. When we went there was a good chicken curry and some nice daal too. There were two types of rice to choose from and the price of the lunch included a cup of coffee after. Don’t expect anything too fancy, the interior décor is very 70s but I think that adds to the warm character of this place.
C. L.
A great place for a very reasonably priced Indian food. It serves a number of options which you can help yourself too, mix and match, and enjoy. Dinner is only between 19:00-20:30.
A. P.
I work nearby in Warren Street and happened to pass by YMCA. So I decided to venture in and check out the dining hall. The aroma of the food, the warmth of the staff and quick service helped me make my decision in no time.
I decided to eat the mutton curry and chapati with raita and pickle. The food was brilliant. The price was within £5. I could not ask for more. For those brief 20 minutes while I was eating I was taken back to India and reminisced on all the fond memories. I recommend this dining hall to anyone in the area for good Indian food !
D. P.
£8.5 on the weekends for an authentic Indian buffet. It's basically a cantine for residence's students but they are many Indian families coming over as well. They have three curry options mainly plus pilau rice and naan. Also tea and dessert is include on the price.
K. K.
I regularly come here for lunch. Large portions of authentic home-style Indian food. Plenty of vegetarian options and a decent and clean hostel canteen.
K. S.
Amazing discovery from Google maps as this hostel is not listed on popular reservation websites. I was mainly looking for something close to the University of London area. The location is excellent for the price you are playing. Its right in the heart of London Zone 1. Walking distance from so many attractions. I stayed in 4 room dorms. The rooms are OK, spacious than a lot of hostels I have stayed in and a big locker is available. The washrooms are mostly clean. The building is little bit old and the beds are not the most comfortable. But for the price you pay, its hard to argue. The highlight for me is the included Indian breakfast and a buffet dinner which is complimentary to all the residents. The quality of food is good and lots of variety. There are lots of Indian students and families staying in the hostel, its feels good, being an Indian you feel like living in a college hostel.
One star less just for the unfriendly and bossy administration and reception. Better to book over phone to avoid any problem which cancellation or change if done with credit card (which I did). Apart from that I will like to visit it again just for the awesome food you get for 30 GBP per night price for the dorm room. You can ask for more in a expensive city like London.
H. P.
My Indian colleague took me to this place. What a nice surprise! Who knew a YMCA in central London serves some of the most authentic Indian dishes. You can have a proper sit-down lunch here for as little as £6.
Pictured is my go-to: fish curry, rice, chapatis, papadum. I’m literally salivating writing this 🤤
j. c.
Meals include rice . Fantastic Friendly Staff.Clean inexpensive place to stay. Serving up authentic Indian food. You sit in a cafeteria with people from all over the world. Recommended.

S. K.
The restaurant is A MUST VISIT! Delicious homecooked Indian food at bargain prices! Meat and veg options and fantastic friendly staff. Lovely outdoor seating area too.
A. A.
The food is OK. Staff is nice. Worth going if you need Indian food and don't want to wait long. Everything is pre cooked, the chicken fry that I had was cold.
P.
Reasonable price for food. Quite close to authentic Indian taste. Had idli chutney for breakfast. The Idli consistency wasn't the best but at £4, I'm not complaining!
C. C.
Its 5 mins walk from warren St station. The dinner is 8 pound. The food is ok for its price but not exceptionally good. Indian food, self service. Perfect for people who is on budget looking for a reasonably priced quick meal
A. R.
Nice place for Indian students
E. B.
Delicious Indian food - chicken city, beetroot curry, cabbage and cauliflower, dhal, egg rice. Basic dining room and you clear your own plate but cheap set menu on weekends.

Canteen is open to the public: Simple, delicious and very good value (£5 for set lunch) Indian food. Quite unlike anything you'll find anywhere else in London. Particularly enjoyed the chilli sauce and the daal.
M. S. (.
Don't go if you're looking for a cozy touristy kind o place with westernized fusion kitchen. Go there if you want authentic, good food served with a smile and in a central station like environment. You should go! Yummy.
D. C. S.
Well priced accommodation. The YMCA has a number of events including classical music and arts from India. The buffet supper is a bargain at (£8) and delicious - go and enjoy the Indian feast on offer.

A GOOD PLACE TO HAVE INDIAN FOOD.
The YMCA restaurant is no fancy and hip place but an authentic and friendly place.
Love to have my lunch, when I’m in the area.
B. G.
Good facility for cultural programme and bufgel dinner. Held Jadavpur University Alumni UK chapter annual general meeting. The meeting room is a bit small though. Just enough for 20-30 people.

Excellent place if you want a cheaper place, including dinner and breakfast...Just next to BT towers and near to Euston station... Only drawback is we stayed in mansion type, means shares stay and shared bathroom... Means the lesser price 😀
