Reviews of The Tea Room at The Midland

First the positives: the tea room is a lovely space, bright, high ceilings, a clean neutral decor reminiscent of the art deco era. It's located within the grand Midland Hotel in Manchester, a destination in itself.
The sandwiches and cakes were tasty, with a good range of teas to accompany and Piper champagne which was very nice.
But, overall the experience was not as perfected as I would expect from such an establishment. Our welcome at reception was good, but once seated the service was brisk. The menu is set so your only choice is what tea you would like to drink and if you want the Royal Tea which includes a glass of champagne. The tea and glass of fizz came quickly, the sandwiches not far behind. But the plates were put down and the waitress left. I always look forward to the explanation of what you have been served which many afternoon tea rooms do, making that part of the experience. We were quite sure that we had duplicates of the salmon sandwich and no ham, it took a couple of minutes to get the waitress attention and she confirmed we were right and it was quickly rectified. We had one check in from a supervisor part way through to make sure we were happy but at no point did anyone offer a tea refresh which again I find suprising for this hotel.
I'm glad I've been but would try somewhere different next time.

Tea at the midland was a great experience, service was dedicated, polite and extremely observant. Food was great tea was great. The only negative was the sugar cubes were wrapped individually which seems an extreme waste of plastic

Had afternoon tea here to celebrate my sisters birthday. The food was lovely but the service was a bit slow and haphazard at times from some of the staff however one member of staff that stood out for us was Stacey. She was excellent. The customer service we received from her was outstanding especially when things went a bit wrong. She got things sorted and helped make our experience a memorable one. Thank you Stacey.

We've been to the Midland tea rooms many times. Always love the room, well decorated, goods seats, fabulous staff and usually 5 star food. Today not up to standard . I can't put my finger on it but sandwiches and cakes did not seem as good as normal. Did we eat most of the food yes and thought OK. Not perfect will we go back Yes. We love the setting around the bar afterwards. Sit for an hour or so just chatting and watching the world go by. Give it a try because even on a bad day it's still better than most.

A beautiful setting in the tea room. The staff were amazing. So polite and courteous. We had a lovely glass of champagne and beautifully presented small sandwiches and cakes. With warm scones and a choice of different jams with your cream tea. There's a separate menu just for the loose leaf tea. It was an amazing treat and we all had a fantastic time.

Positives 1st, The restaurant was nice and cozy. The Presentation of the food was very nice, I can't fault it. The Scones, Clotted cream & Jams were nice and the service was
good (not £7.50 ser charge good).
Negatives 2nd, The Midlands website Is not very clear about afternoon tea pricing. The sandwiches bread was dry (quality/ taste not great). Cakes were not worth the calories soft cheesecake (taste/ quality not great). Hot drinks should all be shown/advertised (had no idea coffee was an Option). Altogether It's worth £20per - £25per at a stretch.

We took our children to the Midland for afternoon tea... a little nervously so as they’re two and four and as such, their behaviour can be unpredictable!!
However, the staff were fantastic with them and the children’s afternoon tea menu was brilliant.
Beautiful setting, very well located and the food was fantastic.

Nice place not worth the money
Some of the sandwiches had hardly any meat on them at one point I was eating dry bread and the fruit scones had hardly any fruit in them
The service wasn't good we had to ask twice for more tea
We heard one of the staff speak terrible to another member of staff about getting our tea
That wasn't nice to hear
It was nice to be out with my friend but will not being coming back to the midland

I have visited the Midland tea rooms many times over many years.Today was a special occasion.Sadly things were not the high standard I am used to.No strawberry jam at 2p.m.Drinks order not completed..asked 3 times for the missing drink.Tea not served until reminded so we waited a long time with our food on the side. The tea pot was enormous and heavy and difficult to pour..what happened to individual tea pots.No hot water offered. We waited again to remind a member of staff. No serving spoons with the jam and cream. No cake forks, just a knife and fork and one plate for everything. The tea rooms were not full.A disapointing return however the new decor is very pleasant and one member of staff tried very hard.

lovely place good service but didn't rate this festive afternoon tea ..have had better the cracker was so tiny and cute thought there would be aliitle chocolate in it but it was only a joke!!.liked the mulled wine touch.Have had afternoon tea here before and it's was nice but this time not..sandwiches were all in white bread nothing different..cakes weren't interesting sorry...5/10...was good value on groupon if I'd paid full price I wouldn't be happy with it at all think the midland could do better and be more impressive.Picture 1 festive afternoon tea 2021..pic2 afternoon tea last year???mmmmm see the difference ??!

I went for afternoon tea with my sister for my birthday, it was amazing, the food was so good and the staff were so informative and friendly, a special mention to the waiter called Michael who is an absolute credit to your company

Booked Afternoon Tea (Belated 65th Birthday Celebration) & it was very nice. I booked for six people, we were seated at three separate tables, close together. All the staff wore masks, there was hand sanitizer available, so we all felt very safe. The sandwiches, scones & cakes were lovely. Plenty of tea & coffee flowing, staff were very attentive & nothing was to much trouble as they were busy.
We all enjoyed it & would definitely go again.
Yes,there are renovations going on, to me that's not a bad thing; they're keeping the hotel updated. We were in The Mount At Restaurant, but it was very nice. We moved to the bar after & that was very nice, staff very professional. So all in all "Thank You staff at The Midland", keep up the good work.

Beautiful tea room & staff were friendly and attentive but unfortunately most of the food apart from one dish was cold and cold scrambled eggs isn’t very nice. The scones were hard and dry. A pity because I loved the choice of the menu and if it had been executed well it would have been a 5/5. We purchased through a deal site but would have been happy to pay the full amount if the food had been warmer..

Just had the Royale afternoon tea today which includes a glass of champagne at an extra cost. Well worth the extra cost.
It was an amazing, selection of sandwiches and cakes plus scones. All very delicious.
Staff very friendly and attentive.
It was a lovely pre birthday treat

Absolutely fantastic
Proper treat........loved it. And massive box to bring what we couldn't eat home. Lady who served us was knowledgeable and very obliging......nothing was too much trouble. If you want to treat your mum, or just want to treat yourself.......do it !! Magnificent xx

the signature tea is perfect!
You should try all flavours of the tea.
Desserts are too sweet for me though.

Service was very poor as we had to wait a long time to be served the food even though there wasn't many people in the restaurant. Food was good.

Not visited yet due to lockdown but people I know said it's a good place to go

Great place for afternoon tea. Good selection of teas and tasty food in a comfortable environment.

Lovely surroundings, presentation good, however I felt that the food was a let down. It should have been hotter, I felt it had been made and left standing.

Great tea and service. I've been coming here for years and cannot fault the service. Would recommend
