Reviews of Premier Inn Newbury Town Centre South (A339) hotel
Used for a 2 night stop over in order to visit highclere castle some 11 minute drive away. Staff assisted us to book in though it is mainly self booking machines at the reception. Need to register car on a separate tablet to make use of the free on site parking. Bought the meal deal for evening meal which was well worth the money and due to poor weather outside meant we didn't have to go out looking for a restaurant in the city. Ground floor room was quiet both nights and was clean and tidy on arrival. All the staff were attentive and polite. Probably the best of all the travel type motels that we've stayed in.
Everything about this Premier Inn is right - a brilliant location just across the road from a shopping centre, including M&S; handy for motorway access for onward journeys; and best of all, a warm welcome from the staff!
After a long drive through freezing fog and patches of ice, the smiles at Reception were just what I needed. My room was sparkling clean and the heating made it snug.
I use this Premier quite regularly and decided to email ahead to see if I could be allocated a specific room. Donnie, the asst manager, replied almost immediately to confirm that the room was mine. And it was. I saw Donnie in the bar after check-in to thank him and he impressed me with his manner. He was polite, interested and - better still - he remembered my email.
My thanks to Dannie but also to the team. Breakfast offered plenty of choice and the tea was piping hot. It goes without saying that the chef and the restaurant staff were as warm and welcoming as everyone else I met.
If you want a top class Premier Inn, I recommend Newbury South.
Good value hotel. Room was clean, with a comfortable king size bed - a bit basic in places, but it was more than adequate for an overnight stay. Carlos the breakfast chef was really friendly, and kept a good selection of hot food on the buffet. Other staff were friendly enough, but seemed very overworked- the hotel must have been full to capacity due to a big event at nearby Highclere Castle. Good job there was plenty of parking.
The grounds are lovely the building is nice to. The staff are friendly apart from 1 who was a bit moody and all you could hear was her moaning a breakfast. She had he phone out a few times during breakfast. I would go back.
Great rooms and very helpful staff. Food was lovely including the breakfast. Bar is small with a limited number of beers on tap but lots of bottled beer available.
Good location with big car park.
Free parking as long as you enter vehicle details at reception.
Small bar on site along with restaurant but need to book table in advance.
Good size rooms with air conditioning.
Small lift.
Breakfast a bit manic with limited amount of staff on at time of visit.
The staff were really good and worked hard.
Overall a good experience and a nice stay for 3 days.
The room was mostly clean; the toilet wasn't very clean but it was the underside of the seat and down the bowl. The rest of the room was fine. The service on reception was good, as expected. The bed had the most uncomfortable mattress and meant my husband and I slept poorly, and have come away with sore backs. Might be time to replace the mattress. Other good stay.
Great hotel, we often stay here as we live a fair way out of town and it never fails to please us. Always clean and great staff and service.
A great hotel for a great price! There's literally nothing to complain about. The all-inclusive breakfast was perfect. Thank you!
Have been to a few Premier Inns, this one is overall the best I've stayed in. It was busy, the large car park was full both nights, but we barely heard the other guests when in our room. The room was very clean and well furnished. The in-house restaurant served a better breakfast and meals than other ones I've stayed in with a pub restaurant doing the catering. The check in was self service, which was easy enough, though there were staff on hand if needed. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and knowledgeable, and keen to ensure we had a good experience
I can’t rate this hotel and staff highly enough.
Paula is the Duty Manager, she is very welcoming and greets with a smile and went above and beyond our whole stay. We met Michelle in the restaurant and she was so kind, attentive and friendly and we met Alex in the kitchen who could not do enough. I stayed for 2 nights with my mum and we absolutely loved it. Rooms were clean and had all we needed. Quiet room and very comfortable beds. We ate in the restaurant for both breakfasts and dinners and the food and service was A+! The grounds are lovely too, lots of parking and green grass and outside tables for the summer months. We are hoping to come again in February. It’s our favourite Premier Inn!
Comfortable rooms, excellent service in restaurant, very friendly.
Ideal for what I needed. Lost of star overall as the vending machine took my £1.80 and did not deliver my can of sprite.
Best Two Weeks I have spent in a hotel for work.
Staff were so helpful.
Allen always in the morning made sure there was soya milk on my table for a cup of tea.
Dina, Donnie, Kay, Jess and Csilla always took my order quickly and delivered the food to the table quickly too. They were all very aware of my allergies and would re-check the allergen menu with me if I ordered something new.
Scarlett in the kitchen was also amazing making sure when doing mine that there was no cross contamination.
Loren was happy to get me new towels when needed and iron and ironing board when required.
Food was lovely both for breakfast and dinner (book for dinner when you arrive for sensible time as very popular) and no issue with room. I was ground floor looking onto car park but no real sound to be heard.
Definitely will be back.
Had a lovely stay here on our way home from Wales. All staff were friendly, approachable and kind.
Ample parking first off, really lovely airy hotel, reception area has lots of space.
Thyme restaurant, not going to lie, I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised by the nice food.
Breakfast was really lovely, scrambled eggs and mushrooms were so so good! Lots of different availability and good coffee.
The air con wasn't working properly in our room, so was a bit warm for me, however the room itself was huge and very spacious for the 3 of us.
On the way out my son won the eggs in a jar competition, so that was the cherry on the cake.

- Lovely, spacious, modern hotel
- Ample parking
- Helpful, friendly staff
- Delicious food
IF I COULD PUT 10 STARS I WOULD 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Thank you ever so much to Tammy & her phenomenal housekeeping team. Having ran a 50 mile trail ultra marathon on the Saturday 6/4/24, I checked out on the Sunday 7/4/24 & left my headphones behind. I returned on the Monday 8/4/24 & spoke with Michelle & Tammy who retrieved them from lost property. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH for making my entire year! It wasn’t the cost but the massive sentimental value behind them. Will stay here again & would recommend to everyone & anyone thinking about staying in Newbury! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Stayed here Tuesday 30th May after a long day on the road, I had my 8 year old daughter with me, the staff were absolutely brilliant with her, both waitresses on that night were great, as were the lads in the kitchen, they prepared her a special pizza on brown bread as their delivery had let them down. Martha was thrilled with all the attention. Thank you to them all, special mention to the waitress who was the mum of one of the chefs
Only reason I’ve not 5 starred it is because there was a “present”
In the toilet, so the cleaner of the room could do with being made aware. Other than that really good
Very disappointed in being turned away for walk in breakfast even though family was staying here fir wedding. emailed afew days prior as advised by staff .. will not recommend or go to this venue again!
One of the better Premiers I’ve stayed in! Most premiers are nice with the rare bad one! But must say this one is really good! Staff are very helpful and bedrooms and hotel as a hole are very clean “ in the last 2 weeks I’ve been here “
Breakfast is nice with everything cooked well. Just had my first evening meal here as don’t normally eat in the hotel! But very surprised with the 10oz Gammon meal being as tasty as it was! Down to having someone that must like their job :)
Had a great 2 night stay. Room was very clean. Bed was really comfy. Food was great. There was a good value meal deal, a starter (or dessert), main course, drink and breakfast the next morning for £24.99. Plenty of parking.
Premier Inn is set in nice grounds.
Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Rooms really clean as expected.
My only issue is with the quality of the food in the restaurant. Steaks were very fatty, gammon over cooked.
They had ran out of the white rice for the curry and the alternative that was provided was not of a very good quality, possible from a microwavable packet.
A lot of the breakfast items were also overcooked and yogurts were not kept in an iced bowl and toaster took a long time to cook toast and pancakes.
Excellent Premier inn staff friendly and helpful the weather was good when I visited and the pointed me the direction of Greenham Common for a walk to catch the sun and blow the day away.
Room excellent, service great and yes a premier inn that gives you hot and I mean hot food to eat, not the usual sort of warm.
Bed was comfy very quite and great location will deffo be staying again when in the area...
Thank you.
Good location and good price. Hotel staff very friendly however the restaurant service is poor. Kept waiting at door, not open on time, and listening to the chefs singing rap songs using F words isn’t right I’m afraid. Playing their music so loud you can’t hear the music in the restaurant!!
Nice and fresh look to the premier inn nice surroundings plenty of places to eat as a takeaway. Room not being serviced every day under the covid rules but you can get fresh towels if needed at reception as well as more tea and coffee. Staff here are nice and friendly room is well comfortable with adjustable heating system. Plenty of parking space must give your car details at reception. I would stay here again. Thank you.
We only stayed here for one night, whilst attending a nearby concert. We arrived at 11.30-12, and were lucky to find our room was ready (it's 12 o'clock check-out, so it could have been up to 2pm check in?). We had requested a disabled-friendly room, and were given the largest available,. It had enough room to 'drive in' my mobility scooter and still walk around.
As advertised, the bed was VERY comfortable, and we had an amazing night's sleep! The room was very quiet and had black-out curtains, so it's just as well it has a 12 o'clock check-out, as we only just made the (very good) breakfast by 11am!
It was very clean, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
The usual good standard of room but the service wasn't great. The bin wasn't emptied despite almost overflowing for 3 days, the room was for 4 and we got 3 towels. There was nowhere to hang the towels to dry despite signs encouraging reuse and the shower was barely luke warm. The breakfast buffet wasn't very warm and didn't get replenished particularly well. Overall, not the usual good service we'd expect.
All you can expect of a modern Premier Inn. Clean, comfortable, basic facilities great for a short stay. Has its own restaurant which is benefit no relying on the chain pub next door. Had good cooked breakfast there. Couple of things to note. Location is a little out the way at end of a retail park and the car parking fills up quickly in the evening. No changes in the year since we last visited.
Stopped here overnight en-route to Devon from Suffolk and also to visit Highclere Castle. A nice smallish Premier Inn with friendly staff. Good sized family room and very clean. Had dinner which was nice (pricey?) and a hearty all you can eat breakfast. Ample free car parking with a check-in using your registration number on a computer screen at reception. Would definitely stay here again.
Amazing team members in this particular inn. The restaurant serves great food.
The location of this Premier Inn is very secluded and private which I feel is really comforting in knowing outside noise will be at a minimum. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. Certainly what you need after a busy day. The check in was very simple and quick, again, another bonus if you like to feel comfortable and relaxed. The layout/design/colour scheme around the hotel is very contemporary and high quality with attention to detail from the restaurant design and features to the room layout and equipment. Premier Inn are really setting the bench mark and I feel this Premier Inn is a flagship for other Premier Inns in need of an update. I slept very well and the room was really quiet and peaceful, bed as always is very comfortable as we're the pillows. The smell around the hotel and in the room was a pleasant "new smell". The level of quality from the taps to the sealer in the bathroom was high and well finished. Now for the restaurant, tables were clean and well maintained, with dishes removed when you are finished as well as other plates from people who had left swiftly removed to keep it tidy and presentable. Cutlery was not missing, once again very nice and shiny cutlery which was nice to have a bit of luxury without the cost. Condiments and sauces are at the table ready and full. Staff once again polite and friendly, very considerate asking how you find the meal, wishing you well as you leave as well. Just very small things make all the difference and this is what separates the good from the great. Food quality is good and well priced and what you expect for what you pay. Well done Premier Inn Newbury.
Clean and pleasant example of this budget hotel chain. Offers great accommodation for the price and this one is particularly good. Slightly set back makes the hotel quite private. Large attached car park and modern design of hotel is quite eye catching.
Rooms are spacious, clean and quiet.
Wow this place was amazing set in the middle of an industrial park it had beautiful gardens outside and the room was amazing, very clean and spacious such great value for money too!! Staff were very friendly an helpful and the food was delicious! Our room looked out on to the gardens. It was an amazing weekend.
Thing that stops me rating it higher is none of the windows open and the room was really dusty so as someone who suffers with breathing problems it's not great. Booked via work and had been told there would be a meal but kitchen is closed and you haven't been given anything to compensate, such as a microwave. Also feel they should be cleaning our bin more regularly as everyone in there is having to order food. Walking down hallways seeing people's bins outside as they are full. Staff were friendly and helpful when needed.
Was only an overnight stay so we could attend a wedding nearby. They allowed us to check-in a little bit earlier so we could get ready. The service was excellent, including the housekeeping, and the rooms were beautiful. Beds are a little high, but I only found it difficult because I have short legs. Didn't use the restaurant as it was too expensive, but it's purpose as a hotel was achieved.
At the time of visit, this was a recently opened Premier Inn and still looked and felt brand spanking new. The Hotel reception areas are bright and spacious. The rooms offer plenty of space, although an armchair would have been nice.
The only thing to let the hotel down is the car park. Disabled parking could / should be next to the entrance. This would mean removing the grass area but surely providing parking for the disabled is more important? I say this as an able bodied person.
3rd time we’ve stayed at this Prem Inn and it is do great on all counts. Easy, free and available parking. Friendly reception staff, clean large modern comfortable rooms. Quiet corridors, barely heard other guests pass our room. Breakfast was delicious and the serving staff and chef were very welcoming. Nothing was a problem. Would recommend to everyone.
Positives are extremly comfortable bed. Lovely clean rooms and bathroom. Quiet location. Negatives are the doors are very noisy. We were based almost opposite the door to the stairs, each time somebody walked through the door banged. Would much prefer a Beefeater restaurant attached rather than the in house small bistro type. Small menu, ok but nothing special and felt more like a cafe.Restaurant staff seem a little unprofessional. It served a purpose but 3 nights was enough for me.
Disabled room very good although bed very low (lower than my wheelchair especially when it sinks due to being so soft!). Lots of room for wheelchair, good roomy bathroom with shower or bath available (we chose shower). Currently due to covid, you have to book a time for breakfast and, because they are doing this on paper rather than using booking software, this is not working. I overheard a manager being very rude to a group who were adamant they had booked a time as they had booked for the previous day and agreed a time for that day too. Instead of apologising and trying to accommodate the customers, the idea that his system wasn't working was beyond him and the customers left without breakfast. Sunday breakfast, service was incredibly slow (40 minute wait for cooked breakfast, how we were supposed to get in and out within an hour is beyond me!). Saturday breakfast was great though so potentially a staffing issue. Parking OK - don't forget to register your vehicle registration though. Tesco, McDonald's & Pizza Hut within walking distance, other supermarket, fast food, pubs and restaurants a short drive away.
Excellent stay, air con on one of the hottest days of the year was very welcome after our day at Retrofestival in Newbury! Very comfy and clean room. Breakfast the next day was excellent, quality of food and service.
Absolutely fabulous place, food was excellent and you could see and smell the cleanliness of the hotel. The rooms are large with everything you could need. The staff that were on were the friendliest I have saw. We stay in Premier inns at least twice a week this one is exceptional.
I've stayed at more Premier Inns than I care to remember and without exception staff are friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately on this visit one of Lenny's beds fell apart. Reported to the front desk. Ecellent response. Some establishments would have accused you of "bad behaviour" (me and Mrs sharing a room with 2 teenagers no chance of "shenanigans" going on), but no, first response was "are you alright". Duty manager got as another room immediately.
As lardyarse/ end of holiday/2 teenagers in tow, we were at the end of breakfast. One or two items were missing/ been there a while. Soup spoons on table for cereal. Above sounds worse than is. Overall experience was v good value for money. Judging by the speed staff were working would guess they were at least " a man down" (I'm sure you can't say that anymore, especially as most of the workers were female (and the were working hard Mr Henry), but I digress). In summary, great location, attentive Staff, comfy beds when they didn't collapse.
As usual rubish wifi.
Nice and clean hotel. Very helpful and efficient staff. Good breakfast for the money. Only complaint is the pillows on the bed were mostly made of air so compacted to almost nothing when you rest your head on them. Would stay here again but would bring my own pillow!
Did not stay here but family had rooms . I joined them all for buffet beakfast £9.50 all you can eat . Good selection, although popular cooked items kept running out so had to wait and get there before running out again .
Great Premier Inn. Plenty parking space right next to Greenham Common Shopping area & former airfield. Tesco there too.
Quiet rooms & spacious. Spotlessly clean with a nice restaurant. Superb breakfast too.
Could fault it.
Great stay, clean room, AC worked well. Staff were helpful and accommodating. Free parking. Easy to get back on the M4. Lots of shops nearby and Newbury town centre a short drive away with lots of nice restaurants.
Stayed here on our way to Weymouth. Brilliant premier Inn. Friendly staff. Great food on site. Room was clean and very big. Will definitely stay again.
Kay was outstanding very accommodating, went the extra mile. Fantastic service every premier Inn should have a Kay! Phenomenal experience. Thank you very much Kay and premier Inn.
Nice breakfast and good location
Most Premier Inns are the same, so there's not much you can say. Lovely location though, and nice an quiet. The restaurant is a little small so if you want a table you'll probably need to book.
Great place to stop on our journey down to Southampton. Easy to find and the hotel was clean and well presented. Breakfast was standard Premier Inn.
One night stop over on business, got the room for a reasonable £66 and went for the £24 meal deal, 2 course evening meal with a drink and breakfast, as I'm sitting here in the room, I've yet to have breakfast but going on my evening meal I'm in for a treat, the room is expected of Premier Inn, Large Double Bed , Exceptionally Clean with Bath and Shower, Pleasant and Helpful Staff from the lady on reception which made booking in simple and easy to the Restaurant Staff which welcomed me with a friendly attitude and smile answering all my questions over the meal deal,
For my evening meal I went with the Lamb Kofta Starter which was real tasty and set me up for the mains, Chicken Makhani Curry which was excellent, hat's of to the kitchen staff, spicy n tasty and really enjoyable.
Overall its 5/5 for me and won't hesitate to book here again in the near future..
Brilliant place to stay good food limited drink selection. Met by the lady on the bar lovely friendly and cheerful kay made us feel welcome will be back
It's ok.... not one I'd pick first again. The bedroom was fine but the service in the restaurant should be sorted. We heard the chef arguing with a waiter. Chef didn't know what was meant to be on the dish.... the waiter did..
Great Premier Inn - fab staff - in part Jane reception team leader. Would recommend and planning our next visit. Close to a retail park which is handy and great for visiting Highclere Castle and Greenham Common.
Nice premier Inn. Got there at check in time with no one at reception and self check in tills not on. A few people waiting. Also car reg in put machine was not working apart from that all good
Clean, tidy, friendly staff only small downside is they didn't have a lounge type bar for a drink. As Premier Inns go this is a really good hotel.
Loving the newness.
Comfortable spacious room with great service from staff.
Breakfast was as expected from a Premier Inn.
Look forward to staying again in the future.
Food nice customer service nice but you can't amend the temperature in the rooms. Far too warm
Family gathering of 22 people. Manager was flapping about our food order which was already paid for. Said we had to pre order on numbers over 12?? The food was good when we got it.
Enjoyed 2 nights. Had a great stay. Plenty of parking had the full English and really enjoyed it. Book again in the spring 😄
Teally great stay with friendly and attentive staff..nice and clean also with great breakfast..would deffo stay again...
Perfect place for calm relaxation, friendly staff always with a smile, food was delicious, chefs come for a chat, a really great place with even amazing people. Retail park and town centre close by too.
Great location for Highclere Castle. Great rooms fantastic breakfast first time to a premier inn restaurant food was well presented but shame it seemed a limited menu
Top of the range Premier Inn. Large rooms, air-con, ample parking, bumper breakfast, wonderful beds. A perfect stop off back from the south coast.
Just wanted to add to a previous review of this hotel the team member was Chris who was outstanding , he was so polite, so friendly and so helpful, Chris is an asset to this hotel, which by the way is a perfect hotel.
This was the best by far
Staff were so lovely , the room was huge , spotless and we could not have asked for more
We will be back
Rooms very good, close to other amenities, but in this day and age I expect free WiFi at a reasonable speed.
overnight stay...booked meal in when booking....evening meal really nice
breakfast as much as you liked. very good..
Always a relaxing stay, pleasant helpful staff, good value for money stays, great location for walking into Newbury centre.
Rooms OK. Door problems. Restaurant poor.
Nice and clean hotel, we always enjoy going to a premier inn because the quality is always good. Newbury is a nice place to have a look and great entertainment for 1 day.
Good place to spend the night
