Reviews of Jesmond House YWCA
I think the place as a whole is pretty good compared to other homeless places I've heard of. They feed you breakfast and tea everyday as part of the rent payment and also have vegetarian options. Cleaners come into your room once a week to clean and change bedding, which I liked. Theres wifi and computers in the community room with sofas. There a cute little smoking area that people sit out in. Theres a laundry room. The local cat was a comfort to be around. I was here for 2 months and I was well fed and I felt like part of a community, maybe a very strange and unhealthy community but I still didnt feel alone. My social skills increased while being here and I learned to stick up for myself and my beliefs.
There was some bad times here and some questionable people, but knowing I had my own room that I could go to whenever I want really helped keep me out of the bad situations.
Honestly though, its not a place for young women or people with mental health problems. I was constantly hounded by men and it caused some situations I would rather not of been in.
I was sad to leave because I had been there 2 months and I had got to know people and having my bed made and food cooked for me was so convenient. But this is not a place that is good long term. I feel if I stayed any longer it would of become unhealthy for my mental health.
I was nervous about moving in here as I had ran out of options, the staff are excellent and the other residents are good people, a great place to get back on your feet
Excellent convenient hostel at the heart of Jesmond. Pitty it is fully booked.
Used to live there 12yrs ago. Was there for 4 years helped me get back on my feet and helped me get of drugs and totally change my life for the better. The only complaint is the smug, sarcastic jobsworth ginger freak who was in charge of the kitchen.
Back in early 1977 I stayed 3 months here. Remember Mr and Mrs McGregor were in charge of the place. Shared a room with Steve... in a little house at the back of the main.
I live in Jesmond House fore year and half
