Reviews of Samlesbury Hall
E. T.
Really brilliant, hassle free stay. We stayed in October and the huts were surprisingly warm.
It was great exploring the hall and the food in the restaurant was of a high quality.
The only downside was a lack of grounds to explore. This is a compact site which only merits a brief exploration. My son loved the adventure playground.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly, and the huts are cosy. We'll definitely be returning soon!
S. S.
Liked: The double-bed bunk beds were great, in fact the general design of the huts was excellent. We enjoyed breakfast at the Heritage Cafe and the tour of the house was informative and very funny (thank Janey the Witch). Good value pack of …

Visited to see 'The Lady in White' theatrical show.
Overall the show was very good - a nice way of telling the story in a dramatic and powerful way.
The house itself seemed very nice, with a lot of historic features. I will try and revisit during the daytime to see a normal tour!
The staff on arrival and at the bar were very pleasant and efficient. Overall a good evening experience!

What a lovely place. We went for the Lady in White play which though short was fun. I would over to go back and have a walk around properly. It's 700 years old and full of history. The exterior is just as lovely as the interior. There's a shop, a lovely fountain and other interesting places to have a look at
S. S.
Lovely old house to wander around, great play area for children and all free including parking.
There is also a cafe & wafflery available too.
You cannot take your own food or drinks.
Donation boxes are around the carpark & house.
You do need to check that is is open as it does shut for weddings.
P. B.
Huts are great really warm and super power shower fitted. Being a coeliac and having to have the gluten free options usually if not always is a let down but not here the food was outstanding. Every course was what fine dining is all about. Thank you for a 5 star experience.
j. m.
Went to see Lady in White play..... absolutely fabulous the way it was put across!! Dark in places, yes there's stairs and you are warned...... also no pics to be taken inside (for show) go for it!! Will revisit in daylight hours as there's cafe etc. Plenty parking.
S.
We visited for a Christmas Fair/ market which was great, lots of stalls with really nice merchandise, also good food and drink were available. We enjoyed our visit, we understand that the hall is open for other events but can't really comment on any of them. Well organised car parking on a very busy afternoon.
S. B.
Whether you're visiting to delve a little into local history, are attending a wedding or conference or just there to enjoy a relaxed lunch, Samlesbury Hall has plenty to offer. The hall has plenty of attractive architectural features and stories to tell, while the well-equipped huts are the ideal woody retreat if you're staying the night. The food is first-rate too, with all dietary requirements catered for.
D. C.
Wheelchair access limited to the ground floor but when the building was constructed I don't think they had too many wheelchair users to think about!
It maybe unfair giving 3 stars as the visit was at the Christmas market, all the stalls seemed to be following Peter Kay's party food sketch only with gin, jewelry, Christmas cards and knitting! When will someone produce something unique!!!
A. W.
Brilliant day out, never been before enjoy the tour. The host was great really brought the place to life. Would recommend it to anyone
L. C.
Great afternoon out and it's free. Full of history. Not much in the way of furnishings in rooms. . Cafe on sight. Play ground for children.
P. P.
Impressive and well maintained 14th-century manor house-turned-guesthouse offering dining & tours. Really worth a visit but when we arrived there is a wedding going on so cannot enter the building. We just walked around the ground it’s really beautiful architecture.
There is a cafe, gift shop and a dessert place for kids as well! On site parking is Available!
For sure will visit again.

We had an absolutely wonderful time having our wedding reception at Samlesbury Hall this summer. The venue and grounds are stunning and the food was delicious. Josh Clarke from the Wedding team was absolutely fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble and he was so easy to work with throughout the process. Our guests also really enjoyed staying in the Shepherds Huts and it was wonderful being able to have full reign of the whole site!
Would highly recommend having your wedding at this wonderful venue!
a. h.
Stopped off for a very tasty lunch- sandwiches & brownie washed down with pots of tea. Excellent food, service & surroundings. We followed it with a tour or the hall guided by a very funny witch, very informative. Would highly recommend.
P. M.
Lovely old building with an iconic look. Not sure it knows what it wants to be - possibly budgetary restraints prevent the presentation of the original hall and its rooms satisfactorily.
S. D.
Really nice quiet walk around the house and grounds. Had some really nice food in the Heritage Cafe. Very friendly and fantastic beef and ale pie. Some building work in progress but still clean and tidy and comfortable.
S. M.
Brilliant place to visit particularly on a Sunday when the free ghost tours are held in the hall. Nice cafe but not much to see outside the hall, its all about the history of the place but well worth a visit. There is a donation box to help towards the upkeep of the hall as entry is free.
C. M.
Love Heritage cafe where you can dine in or out.
The hall itself is such a treasure, free to enter but donations welcome.

We had our wedding here last month - it was better than I ever could have imagined. An actual fairytale! The team were absolutely fantastic, especially Josh who went completely out of his way to make it a perfect day, from staying until past 10pm the night before sorting extra bedding for the lodge for us, climbing ladders to put up sash dressings, supergluing a broken table number, providing vases of water for my flower bouquets during the day, to arranging for the staff to take our dog for walks, not a single detail was unattended to. Both the day and night food was incredible and wine didn't seem so stop flowing!
We were given a lot of freedom over decoration and were able to DIY all of our Dec and centrepieces.
Several of our guests commented that it was one of the best weddings they had ever attended and were absolutely enthralled by the Hall and it's history - so much so that one of them dressed as Lady Dorothy at a Halloween party a few weeks late!
One of my guests commented that feasts and celebrations have been taking place at Samlesbury Hall for over 600 years and that how incredible that we have become a part of this tradition, and it sums up my sentiment perfectly - it was a privilege to celebrate our wedding at Samlesbury.
A. P.
Great historic Hall. We did the guided tour with 'Janey The Witch' who was very entertaining, funny and informative. We learnt a lot about the history of the hall. And it's free. The waffle house is also worth a visit. Check their website before you go because they're not always open.
J. C.
Heritage cafe do a very good burger and beef Sunday roast. Hall is good to have a look at Tudor architecture
R. U.
Thoroughly enjoyed our first experience at the Heritage Cafe, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food arrived quickly, was piping hot and so tasty, excellent value for money. Lovely decorations.
I wouldn't recommend visiting on a hot day as although there were fans, it is a greenhouse setting which meant it was extremely warm.
G. C.
I love a trip to this place, lots of history here. The cafe is good quality, there's an antique place upstairs, and 1 or 2 spirits wandering around the place. Free to enter as long as you go to the cafe. Seams fair to me. Update. I payed a visit this November 21. Most of the inside exhibitions have been taken away, like the antiques for sale, the war section etc. These are attractions which add to the experience of coming here. Now it's just a few rooms to explore and go to the cafe/shop. I'll go back in spring to see if there's been a change. If not, I won't be going again.
R. H.
A visit to Samlesbury for a look around and a pot of tea can be recommended. There is ample, free, parking in the the well-maintained grounds and a small cafe at the east end of the car parks. The hall is splendid with free access. There is plenty to see.
J. F.
A glorious sunny day there, enjoying the Shepherds huts stay for 2 days. No TV so conversation is a must. The hall itself is very interesting indeed. Ian was on hand to relay more history of this place. He's a volunteer hand like alot of them giving their spare time.
R. I.
We had a family day out and we were not disappointed. We gathered in the big hall and was treated to over an hour of the history of the house by "JANEY The Witch" aka Joanne Halliwell.. Brilliant day out finished of by a tour of the house..
L. V.
Amazing place to spend a night (or few) with friends. The shepherd's huts were perfect for my kids and I. 2 double bunkbeds. The only down side is that I snore loudly! Next time we'd probably invest in an extra sleeping pod for the teenager. The 'hamlet' of huts feels like the shire from lord of the rings. Prettily set out in small groups with winding but accessible paths. Festoon lighting everywhere. The icecream parlour was ace and sitting in the courtyard was very relaxing. The playground is ace! The Hall is impressive and creepy. Looks AMAZING for weddings. The chickens and woodland are lovely and the separate cafe venue is stunning.
H. a. A. W.
Really enjoyed our visit here. Great cafe and wafflery (FYI kids portion is definitely big enough for kids!). The kids loved the wandering chickens and it was interesting looking around the old hall
M. H.
A stunning location. I visited to attend a wedding fair with a friend. Everyone was very friendly and helpful
G. M.
Very interesting hall , specially the white lady and the hidden places. Had a lovely lunch too.
S. H.
Very interesting and historical building if limited amount to view. It is free to enter so rely upon donations and buying some of their delicious offerings.
C. H.
We were booked in for afternoon tea for three people and it was lovely! We sat outside in the courtyard and each had a two tiered afternoon tea. The selection was great and all the sweet and savoury things were really tasty. One of the orders was also a vegetarian option which was equally as good. We also looked round the house which was free to do and great to have a wander. Perfect for a lunchtime treat!
J. R.
This was an awesome experience, steeped in history! Lovely restaurant with superb food, very helpful staff. Glamping available looks like it would be a fantastic holiday.
D. S.
Really enjoyed our visit including a tour of the house and some waffles!
H. T.
Had a fantastic day here and thoroughly enjoyed the tour, the free tour is brilliant and totally offsets the cost of the waffles - expensive but totally worth it!
S. S.
Brilliant brilliant brilliant all I need to say about this place offers so much for people with different wants or needs .I stayed in on of the shepherds huts was so warm and cosy inside . Lovely shower and hot water would deffo recommend people to try it out
B. H.
Went there for a wedding reception. The hall is a beautiful place to hold it. I would recommend a visit. Free entry and free car parking
d. g.
Amazing place! Simon's spooky tour was fantastic. So much history, would definitely recommend a visit
P. J. M.
Great atmosphere especially in 5he main hall. Worth a look if you like history.
D. C.
Great location for our family wedding. Food was fabulous. Nicely done. Classy and elegant wedding venue. Lots of character .
J. M.
Excellent day out with the grandchildren, Janey's witches talk was amazing, educational and fun, great waffles at Dottie's Waffery , place steeped in history, would love to visit in the summer to appreciate gardens and children's play area, just can't believe I have not visited this place before, will certainly return 😀
R. B.
Visited the hall on Sunday for their Christmas fair. Love the hall. Been visiting all my life. Be back soon for sure soon!
K. C.
Lovely building, plenty of green space. Enjoyed a tasty meal at the new cafe on site, staff accommodated dietary requirements
E. B.
Attended my brother's wedding, really nice setting and well organised.
p. h.
Enjoyed the experience first time I have been there. Just felt it would have benefited from having more staff maybe dressed in the garments of the period, maybe able to do this when things get back to normal. Must say it was free to get In and they had a nice play area for the little ones.
p. S.
The most amazing venue to have our wedding, every second was fantastic such a beautiful place.
L. B.
Lunch at the Heritage Centre was very good, service was excellent. The Hall was amazing, this was the the first time I had been.
R. M.
Went today to the Waffle House. We pre booked. From the moment we arrived we felt most welcome. The staff went above and beyond and so very polite. The chef came out and spoke to us as my husband has a nut allergy and assured us everything was safe which put our minds at ease. Our children were so happy and made a fuss of which was lovely and we felt very relaxed.
Great service, we will definitely return :D
M.
Went for a wedding, nice place! Expensive bar though... stick to pints as spirits will break the bank
J. L.
Love this place and have visited many times. My daughter had her wedding here and it was beautiful. All the staff work so hard and nothing is too much trouble the wedding and reception was perfect.
R. F.
Samlesbury hall is an excellent wedding venue. Plenty of space for guests to chat, friendly staff, a good sized reception/dance hall all housed in a beautiful historic building.
S. A.
Loved our visit to Samlesbury Hall. Your resident witch is brilliant, thoroughly enjoyed listening to her
A. F.
Beautiful house, sadly we we not able to join.a tour so maybe did not benefit from all the history.
T. T.
Liked: We had a lovely stay here with 2 12 year old girls for 3 nights. The towels and yes and coffee provided were unexpected but a lovely touch. The grounds were gorgeous and well maintained and we made great use of the firepit. We loved …
A. D.
We went for Sunday lunch, the food was lovely. Enjoyed looking around the historic Hall. Nice gardens. Cafe and ice cream parlour, sit in or out depending on the weather. A lovely place to visit.
M. W.
Lovely night away, and a very good night at a wedding, really good setting and staff
C. P.
The lady guide, BRILLIANT, WITTY AND MARVELOUS.
The place, SPECTACULAR. Worth a visit.
P. E.
Amazing place full of local history and privately run so please give donations

Great afternoon spent here. Lovely lunch in the Heritage Cafe followed by a visit to the Hall. Interesting talk by Ian at the desk.
A. L.
Exc old place wonderfully explained by a most delightful wench cum tour guide. Many thanks. Would recommend to all to visit.
B. K.
We ordered afternoon tea, the service was a little slow, waited 30 mins for it to arrive, even though it wasn't very busy but when it arrived it was nice, would have liked a little menu explaining what it all was, just the large meat thing in pastry was a little pale, could have been cooked another 5 mins and the jug of water the waitress asked us would we like didn't arrive, I would say still a working progress but over all ok and the house and garden was lovely to see.
C. R.
Excellent tour from Simon. Unable to use car as fully booked
L. P. S.
A beautiful hall and grounds. The staff are really helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend visiting here.
C. C.
Did two nights in one of the shepherds huts very well set up and comfortable.due to the present restrictions the guests on the sight where well distributed the full English breakfast is well worth the money places doing food in the area are few and far between Sunday to Wednesday
B. B.
I went last year and I loved it. The Honey shop was interesting, I purchased some really nice honey from here. The staff are really friendly. The grounds itself are amazing. Worth a look again definitely.
L. M.
Having had to postpone from May due to the pandemic, we got married here in September and it was honestly the most perfect day, I wouldn't have wanted it to be any different. The staff were incredible, the food amazing, the ceremony was lovely and everyone stayed in the huts afterwards which was the most brilliant end to a perfect day. Loved every single second.
m. d.
Went for lunch with a friend.
Heritage cafe.
Nice food

Just had a night away at this little gem of a place. The huts were fab, so comfy and cosy. Bathroom very spacious. Breakfast in the restaurant, the lady who served us was so welcoming and nothing too much trouble. Good full English. Definitely returning soon. Thank you to a great team at the Hall.
S. P.
Me and my family had a lovely time at Samlesbury Hall. The afternoon tea was great and we enjoyed the spooky tour even though we couldn't walk around the Hall due to covid 19 restrictions. Simon the tour guide had lots of great stories and brought history alive. I look forward to coming again when the restrictions are lifted and we can look around the hall.
G. L.
Fabulous facilities, the shepherd's huts were so cosy and clean, and the grounds and house are stunning. The staff really, truly care about your experience and made sure to check in with my partner and I to ensure we were enjoying our stay. All precautions and social distancing measures were adhered to faithfully and carefully by staff, and we felt very safe throughout our time here.
S. B.
Beautiful place. Excellent day out. Upgrades. New attractions on going now. Must see. Excellent food. All fresh produce.
C. H.
Had a night in shepherd's hut as a gift. Lovely setting , beautiful hut. Good shower and very clean. Just a shame no fridge
H. W.
The grounds look very neglected, waited a very long time til we were given a menu, then waited ages for the food. There seemed to be a lack of staff, maybe due to covidx maybe if we go again it might be better
J. M.
Lovely playground. Pleasant green areas. Good food shops. Excellent.
M. F.
Beautiful, historic hall. Set in lovely gardens.
N. H.
Wow! We had our wedding at Samlesbury on Sunday and it was absolutely fantastic. The venue speaks for itself, it is beautiful: The hall, the huts and the gate house/bridal suite are all amazing! Nothing was too much trouble and every visit we were greeted by lovely, friendly staff. After 3 date changes due to covid lockdowns it happened and we couldnt have asked for any more, it was worth the wait. Josh especially is a credit to the venue and he ensured the whole day ran like clockwork... even the rain didnt spoil it! We are just sad it is now all over, but looking forward to being regular visitors. Thank you so much for giving us the best day we could have wished for, Nic and Mark x
P. W.
Very interesting building worth a visit

Liked: The hall and grounds are stunning. The Wafflery onsite was a real hit with us all as they were yummy & huge! The staff members we encountered were really friendly & helpful. The beds in the shepherds huts are very comfortable. …
P. B.
Lovely afternoon, its nice you can just walk around the hall free. The cafe is lovely and so are the gardens.
J. H.
It's a beautifully preserved 14th century manor house. There are guided tours, fascinating rooms with lots of historical information and a bee and heritage centre. We ate lunch in the restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious. The Wafflery and shop looked lovely too. Definitely worth a visit. Their website is well laid out and informative.
O. V.
Beautiful, good customer service, I was there for a two day residential and felt very looked after
J. D.
We visited for the first time in late October. We spent several hours exploring the house and the grounds, including an enjoyable lunch in the restaurant. The house is full of history and fascinating features, such as priest holes and concealed rooms. There's even a ghost if you believe such things. We'll certainly return. It's free entry and lots of car parking, also free. No picnics because the charity that runs it relies on income from the shop, cafe and restaurant, plus of course donations from grateful visitors.
D. S.
Lovely coffee,great service.as always a stunning setting.nothing like it
D. R.
Stayed here for a wedding. It’s a great wedding venue. Beautiful yet quirky enough to be interesting. Food was brilliant and Vegans well catered for.
We stayed in the Shepherd Huts. These were cool. Essentially a glamping option. They are small inside, and four adults (beds are double bunk) would be uncomfortable. Good for a night or two.
M. C.
The grounds and gardens are special and the building is very impressive. We were there for a wedding. 120 guests and didn't feel the staff were able to manage the food service particularly well. Great ambiance all the same. Plan to go back and visit the actual property.
C. H.
Wonderfully historic building dating back to 14 century.
The history of the family who built Salmsbury Hall is very detailed and a full historical account of the family history is available to view. It runs alongside a historical timeline of the world too and is fascinating to read and to note the status of the family in society through the ages.
From the Main Hall to the kitchen to the bedroom the artifacts are on view to see up close and are freely touchable. Just don't slip them in your pocket! Leave them for others to admire and be in awe of.
The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained too.
You can even get married there, so check it out!
Whilst you're there visit the Bee experience, learn about bees and even how to run, farm and harvest your own hive!
There are two place to eat and there is also accommodation to stay over.
Well worth a visit

Stayed in the hamlets on new year's eve, two couples in one hamlet for £130. The hall and grounds are very beautiful and the small cabins very cosey. Enough space for 4 but that's at a push and you would have to be very comfortable around the other couple as everything can be heard from the toilet. The bunk beds where very comfortable and big with enough comfy pillows and the hut was well heated with a supply of tea and coffee plus UHT milk. Only two seats provided in ours but could sit on the bed to seat 4 inside if it's raining. We also paid to have a fire pit with enough wood for a fire for about 1-2 hours but luckily we brought our own supply of logs.
The only reason the final 5th star is missing is that breakfast was mediocre at best for £10pp. Tea, coffee and juice help yourself but not asked what we would like on our plates and the toast was brought our stone cold. The room was also fairly chilly as the heating wasn't turned with cold radiators.
Overall really enjoyed the night with a slightly disappointing breakfast.
j.
We had a wander around with children aged between 11 and 15. The hall's beautiful and there is a really relaxed atmosphere. We took about an hour and a half tho wander round the rooms and read the interpretation which really engaged the children. The gardens and bee centre were also interesting. We didn't stop for food but it was certainly busy! For a free couple of hours it's definitely worth it.
B. A.
In the past I've had a nasty, overheated cappuccino from here, but on my last visit it was made nicely. It's nice to see the place updated and popular with a great restaurant, animals to look at, exhibitions, the sweet shop and some antique furniture sales. There was an exhibition about the Titanic at the hall not so long ago.
The down side is it's always closed on Saturdays for weddings and sometimes other days as well. It's worth checking before you go that it is open.
D. S.
We stayed in the shepherd's huts at samlesbury Hall. We had a great time absolutely lovely place. Will definitely be going back.
L. H.
Great story with Jane, pity the cage wasn't open in the hall.
R. L.
Absolutely fantastic place for all the family. Guided tours, plenty to do , didnt have time to do everything. Kids loved the talk about the story of samlesbury and the white lady , they got to dress up and look at all the different displays too. Highly recommend a visit!!
S. W.
Absolutely fantastic place to visit.
A free attraction dripping in history.
I have visited twice and both times I have learnt new things.
Each room offers plenty to look at and it's lovely to see so many items out on display, not behind glass. It felt like all visitors respected the items on display.
Both my children loved this day out.
Well kept, fascinating and well worth a visit.
They also serve the best ice cream!
K. S. (. M. K.
One of our favorite local destination we visit every year. It closes on Saturday as it’s a favorite wedding venue. But entry is entirely free so it’s fantastic for a family visit. There’s an on-site children play park outdoor for kids to clime, hide and find. Regular ghost tour is organized throughout the year, due to its rich history and the famous ‘white-lady’ ghost story.
R. F.
Came for a wedding- absolutely stunning. Incredible venue, so much space! The staff were unbelievable, nothing was too much bother, and the whole day ran beautifully. Such a unique venue! The grounds are beautiful too- I'd bring sturdy shoes if it's wet though. Nice food and excellent coffee in the restaurant the morning after.
F. b.
Absolutely loved Janey the witch. The "tour" was more a historical comedy, really funny and interactive and we loved every minute. We had a fantastic time and will definitely go back. Free entry was a big bonus and I don't mind the no picnic policy, i understand they get there money from the restaurant to maintain the property while keeping it free to visitors. Unfortunately the food is seriously overpriced, yes it looked very pretty but after 2 bites it was gone! After spending over £40 on lunch we had to find somewhere else to buy lunch again as the kids where still hungry. Apart from that, it's a lovely place to visit for free, leave a donation if you enjoyed it.
m. w.
Beautiful 16th century hall and grounds. Pencil in about half a day for a visit, unless you're really really slow at walking then it won't fill the entire day. Plenty of stuff for the kids with a play area, a bee centre and a pet area. A few options for food (little bit pricey but entry is free and they really on the food profit for funding) including ice cream, waffles, coffee and meals. Check their website to see if there are any private functions on our any special events planned. Great for history, great for rainy day stuff and generally just great for keeping Lancashire's history alive.
A.
A place that has retained its past history. Certainly worth visiting. I was there for a wedding reception but the place is open to the public
B. M.
Went for afternoon tea. On arrival the restaurant manager just ignored us and left us waiting. The serving staff eventually seen to us and they were lovely. The manager brought us our drinks but again his service was lacking and he just left our drinks on our table and dashed off uninterested. When our food came it was underwhelming and for me it was inadequate the portions were small and it was uninteresting. Although the quality was good. When we wanted to pay the bill the manager chose to ignore us again until one of the staff came to serve us. I can imagine this place is good when its good but that wasn't the experience we had. The actual hall and gardens are beautiful and there's plenty to see and do when you're there.
S. H.
As the Cafe was shut for refurbishment we went to the Halls own Coffee / snack place. The staff were welcoming and we ordered 2 Americanos, a slice of cake and a scone for the adults and a glass of milk and a scoop of ice cream (I know, the coldest morning of the Autumn so far) for our Granddaughter. The ice cream was the smallest 'scoop' I have ever seen, little more than a 50p piece size.
I know the parking and admission is free but £4.50 for the glass of milk and ice cream?
R. T.
Had a lovely afternoon. Very peaceful. Visited Dotties for Waffles and Sundae's. Had a stroll through the gardens and found @thebeecentre. Really interesting, got to try different honeys from different places. Watched a family having a Bee Experience with the Beekeepers and the hives. Free parking, free entry, donations welcome. Going back soon as we didn't explore the house.
M. H.
Interesting few hours spent wandering the hall and it's exhibits. Sadly there was a wedding fair being held so not all was fully accessible. Am told that the witch tours are well worth attending and there is audience participation so beware. Wonderful waffles from Dottie's wafflery but be prepared for a wait if it's busy ...it's worth it and the staff are welcoming. Also visit the bee centre in the shared car park whilst you are there far more to the stripey flies than you may think.
P. “. B.
It's free to enter which is always a good start.
Nice old building with good local history and some interesting artefacts and rooms to see inside. Outside there's gardens and some animals and a bee centre but I've personally not seen these so can't comment.
There's a bar and good cafe/restaruant for food and drinks.
I'm not aware if there's a lift so access to the upper areas would be difficult for those with physical limitations.
S. S.
Polite staff, Cleanliness, beautiful grounds, lots of exploring for all ages, huts were perfect. We are so pleased we have discovered this little gem. We will be coming back here without a doubt. The huts were gorgeous with heating and a shower and felt so clean. I'm amazed how deceiving the space looks from the outside. Picnic bench outside with a fire pit, beautiful environment. We sadly went on a rainy day but thats didn't stop us. We bought a gazebo and still had a fire and bbq. The tea and coffee making facilities is a lovely touch also. Staff cannot do enough for you and so much to explore. I felt like the children were really safe and we didn't have to worry. Seems to be things to do locally too and petrol station/24 hour shop about 1 minute drive.
L. J.
A large historic building, with some areas around 700 years old. There have been several additions over the years, but the main appearance is in the Tudor style. The hall is run by a charitable trust, and there is no charge to enter it. Instead it relies on donations and profits from events held throughout the year. There is a restaurant and when we ate there the food was very good. The grounds are well kept with some lovely borders.
Y. H.
Today we enjoyed the best Afternoon Tea ever !
A lovely welcome with a log fire, Covid secure but very welcoming.
A birthday candle ...lovely touch. Soup, Sandwiches, pie, quiche, and scones, treats that were all fresh and home made. Thankyou to Graeme, chef, Maria and Lauren who attended to our table. We will definitely be back. A lovely ambience.
M.
Interesting Tudor House which is free to look around if you've bought a meal /drink. Food pub fair tasty and good value. They need to do something about the heating in the main dining room. An open fire with a couple of damp logs is not enough.

Nice place to visit. I probably wouldn't take young kids as they would quickly get bored. Salmesbury hall you can walk round and take in the information about it's history that is displayed. Very interesting however that doesn't take long. There is a sort of pets corner but it's mostly chickens and goats and not that many. There is a restaurant there which is very nice. Lovely, friendly staff and the food was excellent. Overall I enjoyed my visit. I stayed about 3 hours and that was plenty to take in everything and grab a bite to eat.

Lovely hall fantastically decorating with many wonderful features. My favourite was the windows in the dining hall by the piano. The restaurant is with high volted ceilings lovely wooden tables and mixed matched chairs that all flows wonderfully. The food was amazing all freshly made and the scones where still warm from the oven. Great service and friendly staff and all round great day out.

Great place. Free parking and entry to a beautiful and interesting Tudor manor house. Good place for a 'pit stop' for a coffee, snack or lunch. Interesting things in the grounds to amuse the children. There's even a golf driving range and equipment shop!
B. B.
Stayed here with my little family my two boys ages 2 and 3 loved it, staff are lovely and so welcoming, there is so much to do on and off site, nice and relaxing of an evening! Huts we stayed in are clean and tidy very well presented we didn't expect it to be as fabulous as it was would 100% recommend to anyone couples and family, we will be back very soon!!!!!! Thank you so much.

Very interesting place. Almost 700 years old and I can't believe it had tbe saved from demolition in the early 20th century. It is much bigger than I expected and a true delight. Definitely well worth a visit.
A must if you live within 30 miles and a great day out if you are further a field. Being only 5 mins off j31 of the M6 a perfect detour.
C. E.
Beautiful place, the Hall is a little bare but the entry is free and it was still an enjoyable experience. The bee keeping centre was interesting as were the animals kept on the grounds, including the new addition of alpacas since my last visit. Would recommend.
J. W.
Beautiful building.
Food was fantastic, full of flavour, hot when it arrived at table.
Dining room had a lovely, warm, friendly feel.
Will most certainly go back, to have a walk around the grounds and the house.
Would certainly eat there again and might even try the wafflery next time.
L.
As this is a free venue I am absolutely loathe to criticise but I think what would completely elevate this venue is if cars were all filtered through the car park furthest from the main house (ie no cars around the historic building). There's something about seeing a silver hatchback trundle past a stately home that takes something of its grandeur away!
Other than that we had an absolutely brilliant time. We stayed for 3 hours, walked round the house twice, took our son to the pirates playground which he loved, looked round the animals, went to the bee centre (a particular highlight was seeing a working hive), went for something to eat at the wafflery.
We will come back again and try the restaurant next time

Liked: The peace and quiet
Disliked: Weather

Had a fantastic night away in one of the huts. Just me and my 7 year old daughter. So much to do. Thoroughly enjoyed the house and it's history. The fairy trail was magical for the little one. Had a natter with all the animals and enjoyed meeting all the bees. The huts are such fun but definitely get a fire pit too.🔥
g. w.
Lots of thing have changed. The cafe moved. No bees. And no little animals. Very sad.
P. G.
Food was amazing. This place is a must see . Fabulous

Lovely location for a few days away. We were a little apprehensive beforehand as we were staying in a Shepherd's hut with our two teenage girls. But it was very comfy, the beds were very solidly built and the shower was excellent. Had a really good nights sleep and the girls loved it!!! Would thoroughly recommend. There was plenty to look around and the Hall is very picturesque. Look forward to coming back again.
P. S.
So we spent a night in the hamlet it was such a perfect night.
So when the place closes you have the grounds to yourselves your able to explore everywhere, we tried to find all of the fairy doors but didn't manage to do it.
We stayed in the big red hut, we lit a fire in the fire pit and we sat out listening to the birds and watching the bats.
The beds were comfy and we all slept well.
Only thing missing was somewhere to cook food, but it was a good excuse to go out for food.
We're already planning on when we can stay again and if not stay just to visit we have to find where the rest of the fairy doors are!
I would recommend this as a place to go and stay.
K. B.
Beautiful place. Lovely helpful staff. We stayed in one of the hamlet huts. Best weekend in a long time.

First time I have been here so didn't know what to expect. Took the whole family to see king Henry VIII. He was doing a talk about the hall. Since we have young children, we ditched the king and went for a drink and a scone. The resteraunt was very good and the food everyone else was having looked very good. There is lots of free parking. There is a good play area for the kids, ice cream, goats and chickens. There is a bee center where you can see all about bees. Entrance to the hall is free and is worth a look around, although its quite small and doesn't take long. There is probably lots more to explore here but we had to go home.
V. S.
Amazing team, amazing concept. Food and service out of this world. Can't wait to see the gardens. Keep going!!@
L. P.
Lovely time spent with grandchildren, learning and exploring. Whilst I appreciate the need to support the charity. It would be good to have a reasonable cost range for childrens lunches/sandwiches to purchase ie £3.50 for sandwich, crisps or fruit and a drink. Restaurant pricey for children esp if you have 3 little ones, who have a tendency to leave food. But overall would visit again. Betsy was very entertaining too. 👍
U. O.
Retains it's historic charm & the free tours offered are absolutely fantastic if you're into your history. Tour guides narrating the tales, bring the place to life through their depth of knowledge and matching outfits.
Decent cafe offering great sandwiches and cakes. Also a bar available if you fancy a cheeky pint.
C. S.
Fantastic Tudor mansion, free entry, free parking. The house is stunning with lots of history. There is a very interesting Bee Centre and some animsls - chickens, goats, pigs, sheep and alpacas! Children's play area. You can vacate in shepheard huts on site. The resteraunt is lovely and there is a smaller cafe serving waffles and delicious ice-creams! There is a small gift shop and toilets on-site. Please note that Samlesbury is a charity and they do not alow picniks as money from the cafe and restraunt go to the upkeep of the hall.
E. N.
I thoroughly recommend Samlesbury Hall. Wonderful staff, engaging tour guide and a beautiful day out. I was part of a group and we had a meal in the Great Hall which was a fabulous setting. The food was delicious and the staff were so polite, respectful and friendly, which is rare nowadays. The whole group were raving about it on our journey back and there wasn't one bad comment or complaint, fabulous. Well done the Tour Guide for engaging all those people for an hour and a half, involving the crowd and she never stopped talking. She was both entertaining and knowledgeable and it felt like only half an hour had passed! Thank you and I will recommend it to friends and family 😀😀😀😀😀 Eileen Nolan

A precious 'little' black and white timbered building. It now houses an eclectic mix of bygones and museum quality pieces. Do ask the custodians about the history of the building. They helped to restore it and now volunteer their time to keep it open. The proceeds from the charming tea shop and the first class restaurant are used to repair and conserve this masterpiece of Tuder architecture. And, entry is absolutely free.
j. b.
Cannot fault this place, we arrived with a group and were well looked after, reception greeted us and gave us a clear plan of what we could do and where we could go. We then went to lunch which was fantastic, the staff were very accommodating and nothing was a problem to them. We then had a guided tour, this made our day, the lady really got into character and interacted with her audience, answering questions and getting our group involved. We had a fantastic day. Thank you
E. G.
Shepherd's huts are very cute, clean and surprisingly comfortable. Kids loved the animals especially the friendly goats. Lovely shop and restaurant and hall , shame not open to guests on the Saturday. We would definitely recommend and planning to come back
K. T.
Really enjoyed the afternoon tea was lovely booked in for 12.30 didnt get it till 1.clock which was quite annoying, also the price of prossecco was £9.00 for a small bottle which i nearly fainted about. I was too full to finish the scone so decided to take it home, i asked the young lad n thought it would come in a takeout box with the jam and cream but no he picked it up with his hands n put it in a paper bag n just got the jam so when i got outside just put it in the bin what ashame but obvs im not gonna eat it after he picked it up with his hands. All in all food lovely staff not so great not once did any1 come up to the den part to see if we was enjoying it, or to tell us it wouldnt be long i had to go down n ask were it was.
P. S.
I love visiting here and so do my children. They have different events on throughout the year from archery to ghost walks. I stayed in a shepherd's hut with my 3 boys for a night and had a barbeque outside the hut with them which we all enjoyed.
A.
A lovely and ideal venue for a wedding.
The staff were fantastic and very helpful and polite.
J. E. D.
Very nice venue. Drinks are quite expensive. Wheelchair access is possible but quite difficult in most areas.
J. B.
Couldn’t fault the service that was given today at the Samlesbury hall restaurant.
The food was delicious and we could not resist a desert. The waitress serving us couldn’t do anymore for us and did everything with a smile on her face.
After all that food we took our son around the animals and went back for a coffee before it closed for a wedding.
s. m.
Was part of a wedding reception in this venue, and honestly, the most friendly professional service I could've asked for. They acted like courteous, attentive, respectful, patient staff who took care of us all DAY. Thank you to Marcus, Mia, Emily, Sasha, Hanna and all who made a special day, even more special. These people deserve your business, and even more so deserve your respect. 10/10 thank you so much.
L. M.
Went to a wedding here food was good and staff were very helpful
A.
Liked: The staff were very friendly, especially the lady in Dotties Wafflery who took time out of her day to accommodate us and offer the best she could during the disruption thar COVID 19 has caused. …
j. c.
We went for a school trip. The children enjoyed every minute of it. The staff that worked with our children were fantastic. Dressed up and gave interesting and hilariously funny tales of tudor times. They had the children involved in everything. A fantastic day!
J. N.
We attended the Saturday Pizza Night. It was easy to book via Facebook with payment and chosen timeslot in advance. There was a good selection of drinks available to purchase on the night by contact less payment. The tables were nicely spaced around a courtyard with a fountain, although you had the option of takeaway pizza we choose to sit at a table. The woodfired Hawiian pizza was delicious, there was also Margharitta and Pepperoni options. If you wished you could then walk in the grounds and take external pictures.
The Hall itself was closed.
L. B.
Lovely grounds and building. Its looking a little tired inside, but is still very beautiful. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The Wafflery was very nice, with a pretty gift shop attached.
m.
Pizza in the Courtyard!
You need to pre-book, this helped cut down on overcrowding :)
The atmosphere was good, there were families dining and plenty of space for people to spread out.
Food was great, hand made pizzas cooked in a clean modern pizza oven.
They even made my fav just ham pizza :)
R. 7.
Nice little place, couldn’t spend a whole day here but it is a nice hour or so.
The house itself has a lot of info, and friendly staff who are more than happy to help.
My personal favourite bit is the farm/animal section outside. The goats are great!
D. S.
Fantastic place to visit with the kiddies. The house was splendid and you are permitted to get close to everything (no barriers or roped off areas). The food was delicious too. The talk by Janey (who is apparently a witch - see my photo for possible evidence!) was interesting and funny!
K. M.
The free tour with Janey the witch is highly recommended. So entertaining and so funny! We always visit the restaurant to help boost funds but be aware the food is very expensiv for what you get. I ordered a Sunday Dinner which consisted braised beef, mash, a few veg and pickled onions (??!!). No roast and no yorkie which was disappointing. Cant fault the delicious taste though. We skipped pudding to nip round to Dotties for waffles and ice cream. Definitely a must!!
M. “. B. B.
Very tidy warm and inviting. Lots to do for all the family. The best milkshake I have ever had in the new Dotties Wafflery at the rear. Some farm animals here and a gift shop lovely grounds but the restaurant food is pricey but delicious.
R. F.
We had lunch in the restaurant which is in the old billiards room of the house I believe. Food is good quality and they cater for gluten free. The house itself is beautiful, we didn't have time to go on a tour though which is probably the best way to appreciate it
N.
Recomended to us by a friend, we called by on the way home from holiday. Excellent property with so much history. Impressive rooms and great stories to be told. Would have liked guides or volunteers to tell us more and answer questions - I had so many! Didnt get chance to go around outside due to time restraints. Free to enter, with a visit!
K. S.
Went to the Christmas Fair. It was very very busy with stalls jammed in every corner - it might have been nicer if some of these stalls were outside to give more space. Enjoyed the day very much though especially the mulled wine.
L. V.
We took one of the guided tours - different ones running each weekend, will go again. Keeps the children engaged. The people in the bee place were very friendly, taught the girls all about bees and had us try the local honey. There is ice cream (really nice), restaurant lovely too, animals outside and a good play area.
P. H.
Lovely building and grounds. Nice to be able to walk around for free and give a donation. Lots for children; playground is cute. Bee Centre is something a bit different & really cool to see. I recommend the Banoffe & Rum Waffles
J. R.
Very good. Free entry, free parking, free guided tours and story telling, a children's play area and animals. Samlesbury is a charity run estate in which a donation is required if you enjoyed your visit. Or alternatively just purchase a brew or food or a gift from the shop is all the same.
Nice time enjoyed by all of us.
C. G.
A lovely experience on a cold wet January day. Afternoon tea was good and all homemade also had a good wander around the hall which is a beautiful place and a good historical journey. Will return in summer to take advantage of the beautiful gardens and surroundings.
S. P.
SalmsburyHall , the gardens etc re complelty free ofentrance charges and you can wander around both at your leasure. Just dont let young children put theirhands into to marmade (orange) slicer or workton grinder and turn the hangle asthey will loose their fingers.
Really helpful staff especially the man on the desk for contributions to the hall. As the hall is completely free there is an oportunity to donate . Do speak to him as is knowlege is endless nd he has so much enthusiasm.
The visit would havebeen 5☆ except forthe terrible overpriced food. They really do need a new cook, preferably one who knows you do not heat bread rolls in a microwave as they come out disgustingly rubbery and can not be cut! The £5 soup was overpriced & only average and the £7 cheese tart was so tiny and tasteless! The table was sticky to the point i went to the gents to get some wet papertowels to clean it, but it was still tacy if i leaned on it or put if i put my hand on it it stuck!
Best advice dont eat ..even a fruit tea which is just a tea bag was £2.30! That is 30p more than a normal pot of tea with milk & sugar !
But amazing friendly visable staff; grounds to wander in and hall, they just need a new cook and a look at the quality, portion size and cost!
E. D.
Majestic hall and stunning grounds. Step back into Tudor times for a delicious afternoon tea. Stand in the Great Hall and imagine a large, raucous feast taking place. Watch out for the Lady in White ghost and take a stroll around the immense grounds to have a chat with the resident chickens, pigs and goats. Don't forget to pop in and see with industrious bees in the bee centre. Well worth a visit!
A. i.
Went and had an explore with the kids, they and I prefered Astley hall where we went later. Its nice, its old, had more to look at and felt like a job well done. Salmesbury was quite bare and not as quirky, as a wedding venue it was nice, very nice and better placed as such. Janey the witch was on when we arrived and she was really good, interesting facts and comedy mixed in. Few animals on site for the kids.
A. L.
A hidden gem of a venue, whether a day out or that special place for your wedding. Warm homely welcome by the professional staff. Good food and possibly treat yourself to waffle after a walk to see the animals, listen and watch the honey bees or adventure in the playground. Maybe even stay the night in one of the hamlet's.
A. R.
What an absolute gem of a place. Lived locally for nearly 20 years and my first visit. Full of history and information. Talking to the volunteers and you find out a lot. Well worth a visit and it's free entry, Also the tea room is a must.
S. D.
Beautiful place for relaxing and good food 👌.
C. H.
Well worth a visit - free entry with donations welcome. Interesting history and possibly haunted ! Also has a small farm and Bee Centre. Very pleasant café with wafflery 😍👍
B. J.
Picturesque and plenty of history. Could do with more exhibits seems as though weddings are taking over so clear spaces needed. Range if gifts good and expected prices. Wafflery is worth a visit home made waffles cakes and ice cream milk from a local farm. Yes served in China cups & you get a real teapot too Bee keeping centre is very nteresting bees on live up to 48 days. You can adopt one. Advice on bee keeping and various honey to try and buy plus other items. A few animals but you can not get up close to them. Resturant limited choice and expensive. If you're passing call in but I wouldn't make a special long journey unless your surname southworth.
R. S.
Great place to stay, kids loved it after they had got over the shock of no TV 🤣🤣. Good play area for the kids. Would have been better if there wasn't a wedding going on on the Saturday night as the restaurant would have been open. We will definitely be back again though.
p. m.
A beautiful Hall, full of history and character with an excellent play area for the children next to the car park.
But what a pity that the cafe to the rear of the place is so terrible. Service tends to be poor. The soft drinks are extortionately priced and the coffee is well nigh undrinkable. Over the last two years we have visited the hall four times and on each occasion the cafe has let us down. During one visit no one in the `waffle house' appeared to know how to make a waffle. The results were truly awful.
S. B. B.
Had a lovely day here on Sunday, lots of choice on the cafe menu, the gardens are beautiful and well kept. We also did the bee experience which was brilliant and informative, we will definitely return for another visit.
S. S.
Old historic building went here for a wedding reception. It's a bit pricey on beer and coke. It was a night time do so couldn't walk round the grounds so not sure what or how big they are might be better going on to Google for more information.
J. C.
Really interesting historic hall. Free to enter, free to park. Food in the restaurant was beautifully presented and really tasty. The little museum and it's reference to it's links to WW2 & Donald Campbell most informative. A most interesting half day visit.
D. B.
Nice place. Great waffle House, kids play area. Excellent shepherds huts where you can stay. Well worth a visit.
B. B.
The hall is very interesting, beautiful and has a pleasant restaurant with seats in the courtyard. A very good day out :)
L. T.
We had a party of 10 for Christmas day lunch. We were received warmly with a drink and then shown to our table by the fire. The food, service and atmosphere was outstanding. Every one of my guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We will be back next year. Congratulations Samlesbury Hall.
S. C. C.
Did the tour on Sunday 13th Nov Our tour guide was the Salmesbury witch, she was brilliant , and brought the history to life , it felt like you where living it. All that and no charge just a donation. Well done !!great day out. Also the food in the restaurant was really good service spot on . Well worth a visit.
J. M.
Love love love Samlesbury Hall. The moment we first visited we knew this was where we wanted to get married, and get married we did! Angela and the staff were all amazing and went above and beyond for us. We've been here a couple times in the afternoons leading up to the wedding and each time loved spending time here having afternoon tea or seeing their animals. Lovely bit of history preserved!
J. T.
Lovely grounds, good play area for young children. Sample local honey, be a bee keeper for a day and collect honey from hives. Feed the goats, chickens, and alpacas.
The old hall full of history.
Tea Room and a seperate waffle/ice cream parlour.
J. B.
Beautiful place to visit, the hall should not be missed. And the Bee centre is also a must. The staff knowledge of bees gives us a fantastic insight into the world of these fascinating creatures.
G. D.
Beautiful and interesting building. All quite simple and understated, lovely. Grounds are nice with a few petting animals. A popular wedding venue and the house itself is manned by volunteers.
l. n.
It's free to go into Samlesbury Hall and this time there was a fantastic free tour by a hugely entertaining tour guide, full of fascinating information about the history of the hall. There's a lovely wafflery where we stopped off to pig out before going to our favourite bit, the bee hives. Shame the bees aren't out and about at this time of year, but we still managed to pick up some lime honey and honey fudge. We'll definitely be back soon!
J. G.
I attended a pizza night here. It was lovely that we could sit in the courtyard and enjoy the ambience.
Staff were lovely and pizzas beautiful. I will be booking again.
J. H.
Me and my 10 year old spent an amazing few days there. Stayed in a Shepard's hut, cosy this time of year but fab all the same. Dottie's waffery was a real treat, great fluffy capichino. We had a personalized tour through Samlsbury Hall. Ian the guide told us lots of interesting stories, very knowledgeable and engaging, thanks Ian! The bee center is also worth a visit.
A. H.
Fantastic Sunday lunch. Traditional, hearty Lancashire food with good portion sizes and excellent quality. The service was also fantastic. Would strongly recommend to all but would advice to book as it was quite busy.
P. P.
Super bit of history on show here. The timeline in one of the upstairs rooms is fascinating. Great cafe, food is fab. This is an old house so it is cold, even in the cafe where there is a lovely open fire...dress accordingly!
D. C.
Beautiful,, very modern,, lovely breakfast, just a little hot
r. d.

(It's closed Saturday for weddings) on a Sunday witch Janey she's really good

Lovely afternoon with Joanne my daughter in law had afternoon tea which was excellent then a look around the hall free admission and in the grounds their was hens goats and a lovely friendly pig, also bee hives and a viewing centre were you could see into a hive and the bees making honey. Great treat for the bank holiday monday thanks Joanne xxx
H. L.
After having a joint 50th and combined engagement party I can not recommend Salmesbury Hall highly enough. This together with fantastic staff and superb food made for a splendiferous overall ambiance. All of our Friends and family who were there would no doubt say the same.
Thank you
Hans & Lorraine.
G. S.
A lot of fake antiques (namely books that were purposefully damaged and aged and the "witches and ghosts" portion was two small plaques... beautiful place and loved the set up. There were friendly chickens and the waffles were amazing
W. Q.
Love the tudor history of this hall. Everything from the priest hole to the various exhibitions they add to it. When i was a child it was a exhibition about witches and now its world war and has guns grenades etc. A must see if your a history geek like me lol. Also theres a little bit where you can purchase antiques which is awesome.
A. G.
Fantastic venue. Brilliant staff. Unique accommodation.
L. H.
We stayed in a shepherd hut for the murder mystery overnighter. The food and drink was nice if a little pricey however the entertainment was difficult to hear and therefore hard to be drawn into the murder mystery.
Beautiful setting in the historic hall.
The shepherds hut were cute and cosy, beds very comfortable however the blind cords right next to both levels of bunk beds was a little worrying especially if you were to stay with young children. The cords are attached to the wall at the bottom but it's quite loose with no quick release and the cords on the back of the Roman blinds could be a strangle hazard.
Would be nice if WiFi password was available in the huts.
z. a.
Fantastic summer holiday event and great value for money. Get to see a lovely old building, craft activity, hear a beautiful story with fabulous morals, educational about bees, hens, goats, and conservation. Brilliant outdoor play area. Highly recommended.
F. C.
Stayed in the Lodge for our wedding anniversary this weekend, and had a wonderful night. Beautiful rooms (particularly loved the bath!) and surrounded by the stunning grounds of the Hall. Lovely and peaceful. Thank you for a wonderful night. We WILL be back!
D. T.
Interesting place to visit, house, a few animals & beehives. My only criticism is with the restaurant, their welsh rarebit at £6.95 was just one small slice of bread and a little salad. Not good value for money.
K. A.
Did you ever meet someone who was really talented, more so than many so called stars on TV and in film?
Well that is Joanne (or Janey) the tour guide at Samlesbury Hall.
Get on a tour guide with her and you will be royally entertained and informed. Someone who you would expect was a star of stage and screen already.
How lucky they are at Samlesbury to have her.
This is a very nice place to visit, with interesting places on the grounds of the estate, and a quality restaurant.
We visit many mansions and historic homes and will definitely be back, as apart from it being a really nice day out, they have great staff there all round (as at 21/06/2015).
M. K.
Very intresting old house to visit. Surrounded by other interesting facilities like a small farm a bee centre and a very cool bee centre. You can spend here on meals icecream and even some top level glamping. However parking and entrance is free.
S. L.
Amazing building in a very peaceful setting. Unfortunately, both the hall and coffee shop were closed due to Covid. Looks well worth a visit in future !
C. M.
A lovely house and the host was very funny, a great story teller. A nice café too. Recommend booking a table in advance if you want to eat there.
M. H.
We had a lovely meal here. Can recommend the pies super pastry and delicious filling...all locally produced and sourced. Lovely staff too and the venue is outstanding historic and beautiful 🌻
J. S.
Fabulous place. Amazing ice cream. Left to wonder around the hall. Plenty of things to see around the site, learn about bees, animals etc. Recommend you visit the ice cream parlour/cafe they sell the usual things and old fashioned sweets, gift packs, maje sure you call in.
B. K.
Quaint little place with stacks of Tudor charm! Can't help but feel a little spooked here, nice little pub with pub grub/cafe available. Ok for wheelchairs if not a little undulating underfoot.
Main house inaccessible if disabled as steep stairs in places.
Large carpark with a variety of animals to see in the gardens.
There's a bit of a shop in the gardens where they sell outdoor camping pods.
Next to the venue is a golf driving range.
P.
So nice place to visit, easy walk even for elderly people lovely play area for children, free admission!!!!, not long journey from Manchester, Liverpool less than 40 minutes drive from Manchester.
Nice deserts, ice cream topped with toffee, puddings.
Shame is not Catholic place as it was before, in nowadays do not believe society apart from "God is football, football is God, Shopping is more important than Sunday day which is should be sacrifice to God, family and more higher thinks to do.
G. E.
Great family day out with a wide variety of things to do with the bee and honey centre, golf, adventure playground as well as the house and gardens. The tour with Janey the witch is excellent - funny, entertaining and informative!!
b. g.
Took two of our Grandchildren (boys, aged 8 and 10 years) to Samlesbury Hall today (Sunday 5th February) for the 2.00pm witches tour. This was the most educated, informative and funniest tour ever. If you get a few hours spare over the coming months (the tour is one and a half hours) we very highly recommend that you go to Samlesbury Hall and attend Witch `Janey`s` tour you will not be disappointed and it is all free but don`t forget to drop a donation for the Hall in the box on the way out!
Brilliant, thank you `Janey`.
N. I.
Grand stately home. Tudor age. Great day out for whole family. Free entrance and free ample parking. Lots of features to see. Bee centre. Farm animals. Play area. Waffle shop. Cafe. Restaurant. Gift shop. Guided entertaining tours. Antique sales. History and culture.

It was a cold and frosty Sunday, we arrived to find that there was a power cut and the place was lit by candles with a roaring fire in the hearth. They made us welcome and we had a wonderful lunch.

Great old house,. Free entry, great for chdren with activities.
Really good food in restaurant, the hake on the new menu was cooked to perfection. Staff well trained. Five stars not enough! Now for pudding!!
E. N.
A really interesting and historic place to visit. Plenty of free parking, free entry into the beautiful 15th century building. There's also a small cafe, bar, restaurant and hotel rooms if you choose to stay over. Just located off M6 junction 31 if you're heading north .

Superb building originally built in 1325. Admission was free and had a nice tearoom and bar. Most of the rooms were in a great condition. Certainly will return!
L. H.
Really interesting and well planned exhibits. Right on the door step and free! Leave a donation to maintain upkeep. Also delicious food in the lovely restaurant served by friendly staff. A good family day out 😀
K. J.
The house was interesting but the thing that made our afternoon was the Witch-guided tour. The guide was excellent. She used a lot of humour and had the very large group in the palm of her hand in no time.

we went to Salmebury Hall on Sunday 25th of Nov and hadn't been for a long time but decided to go because we had a friend over from Portugal who wanted to see some "Old Buildings" he had his wish, however he also (and us) had a treat in store and that was the history walk about, the "LADY" who did this should get an oscar for her performance and I'm not kidding, it was over an hour of great entertainment and free, she engaged with everyone including children of all ages and kept them fully entertained and focused, there was no "are we nearly there (finished) yet, great show and wonderful afternoon, my only reservation was "why free" this hall takes some looking after and if not, then like other times in its history we may loose it.
congratulations and keep it up

The huts are fantastic but the old building creeps me out, I came here when I was in year 3 on a school trip. The story they told me was the creepiest story ever. I still have nightmares to this day, about it.... And I always will.😱😰
The story was about "the white lady" .
D. F.
Beautiful setting. Knowledgeable staff and an extremely enjoyable visit. There are many interesting facts about the hall and it's people / owners. This makes for a very enjoyable day out.

My great grandfather's built this place. They were under very strict circumstances during early 17th century and hid many Catholic priests plus practiced their religion freely in this Hall. Early 13th century until the 17th century held arms and gathered men called the knights of the shire. Family has seen war from Medieval times to this day in Iraq. Freedom was crafted within these walls and family left for America after the hanging of Martyr John Southworth for his faithful Catholic religion. From the ancient family of Gilbert de Croft I hope to provide war to those in need of Freedom and raise my son to enter the US Army Infantryman school in Fort Benning Georgia. To provide protection to the world and keep the family name at the edge of the sword or rifle. Southworth's never quit and thank you for the 1925 issues with this Hall and saving it for my family to see in the future. I hope to purchase this place one day and keep it for the public as a national museum forever. Thank you for keeping this hall clean and well kept when others wanted it torn down for fire wood (1925). 2011 Kirkuk Iraq combatant 1-5 field Artillery Big Red One Infantry, Iran border=Hells gate. Freedom will always be bathed in blood and Southworth's will be there, enemy have and will be raised high in the air at the tip of our spears. Danger forward was my battle call sign. The motto of the Big Red One-Devil's brigade “No Mission Too Difficult. No Sacrifice Too Great. Duty First!” Service always to my country and family. This hall represents the warriors who protected England from the Scottish raids to waging war far away from this hall to protect the ones we love the most. Raisers of hell on earth of those who ask for Englands demise or America have to deal with a Southworth's Justice firsthand throughout History and tomorrow.

The hall was lovely and so were the bees, but they really ought to widen the road to the overflow car park or remove the bollards as we couldn't pass other cars and my father in law scraped his car on a bollard.
