Reviews of Bristol Zoo Gardens
H. B.
A lovely, medium sized zoo. Animals in good condition and seem contented. Lots of information dotted around for learning opportunities. Super helpful staff - all so cheerful and considerate! Food outlets are on the expensive side but you could just as easily take a picnic as there are outdoor and indoor seating areas.
Seeing the eggs in the reptile house was a winner with my son after he had watched some YouTube videos about hatcheries. Daughter was completely engaged with the underwater sea lion viewing that had loads of space. Good disabled access throughout. Very wheelchair friendly. Staff were extremely understanding of my son's additional needs and catered for him really well. Good day out for old and young. We spent a total of 4 hours there. Arrive early because 11am onwards may be difficult for parking at peak times.

We love Bristol Zoo, our son had a great day. We went early on a week day so it was nice and quiet. The staff & keepers are really friendly and told us fun facts about the animals when we saw them. I'm sad it's closing later this year so would recommend a visit before this happens.
A. R.
Had a brilliant time, much bigger than we expected, really well laid out design. Animals were brilliant to see, all looked in great condition with immaculate enclosures. Loads of info about each species too. Cafe was nice, but a little pricey. Apart from that, highly recommended x
H. P.
Came here for my 4yo birthday and he loved it. Has lots to keep children entertained and a cool little water park which we spent a lot of time in. Wanted to see it before the zoo moved to North Bristol. A good day out 😊
T. R.
Great selection of animals..very enjoyable experience. All the animals look happy and relaxed so I'm certain they're treated well. Great time to see the animals in their daily routine. I understand people's reservations on animals on captivity but a lot of the animals here are in danger of extinction so I'm glad to see their breeding program to help restore the population. Overall a wonderful experience

A very Small but quirky zoo, if you're a zoo lover it's worth a visit. Really enjoyed the Tree Kangeroos and Bats. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the gift shop prices were reasonable for a zoo. You can see it's age in places but I feel it really adds to its charm.
D. H.
A great day out and a real shame that it is closing. Beautiful gardens and zoo residents all seem happy and well cared for. Reasonably priced. Some beautiful art deco buildings too.
s. m.
A smaller size zoo, several enclosures where closed due I think to them closing after summer.
Was a nice day out with plenty of outside space and the added bonus of a sky level activity/climbing route.
R. G.
Nice zoo, shame it’s closing soon. A bit on the small size but still plenty to see - we were here for around 90 mins. Staff were friendly and knowledgable. We appreciated the discounted ticket prices due to sustainable travel - would recommend checking the zoo’s website for the code.
L. M.
Great day out🥰 we are gutted it's closing down in September, a couple of things were closed such as the Lemar walk through and the twilight zone but we still had the full fun day there and could of spent longer! We had a lovely day on our last visit and can't wait until its re opened again in a few years!
A. M.
Great little Zoo, doesn’t have quite the array of animal you’d find at other Zoos but had enough to keep my wife and I as well as our 2 year old very happy for 4-5 hours. Imagine you could spend 5-7 if weather was nice and saw everything on offer. Food in the The Hide Restaurant was very nice, though was on the expensive side for the portion size. If you like big portions I would either be prepared to spend £20 per head (for an adult) or take a decent package lunch and use the saved money on the gift shop or on the various ice cream vendors around the place. Overall it was a great day out and would go again (though they’ll have moved by the time I’d be inclined to go again).
A. M.
Spent a lovely drizzly day here in January. Lots of indoor rooms so you can still see animals undercover. The Reptile House was great. You need to spend a while looking for the tiny creatures but a thrill when you spy one. Elsewhere, there is a newish area called Gorilla Island . In Winter, you will see them relaxing indoors. Viewing was easy, but again , a weekday is best to avoid the crowds. There is a large eatery on site about half way to stop off for loo trip and refreshments.
A. A.
Highly recommended. My kids loved it. So much to watch. Restaurant facilities available onside. Few from many to watch as follows: Penguins, lion, gorillas, snakes, butterfly is must watch as it involves kids to spot rare blue morphos, flamingos, monkeys and .unhealthy much more. The only thing I was disappointed was parking charges which wasn't included in tickets fee and end up paying £5 for whole day.
T. R.
We had a fabulous day out, well most of it, the food in the restaurant was absolutely disgusting, overcooked burnt and cold, to the point we had to complain and got most of our money back but I wasn't going to let it spoil my birthday day out with all my family including my first grandchild, he just wanted to crawl about on the grass Bless. It's sad they have to close but I do understand, it was looking a little tired, it's grown out of its shell and time to more on to bigger adventures. I'm still going to give it 5 stars because it Was a lovely day despite the issues, it was a lovely nostalgic day 🥰 the staff were lovely too
E. T.
We had a really wonderful family afternoon at the zoo. It's small but there's lots to see and do, the volunteers were knowledgeable and friendly, the animals were in interesting habitats.
A.
Great day out. Weather was sunny and most animals were outside. There are large animals like lions and gorillas. Most animals were out and active. Might give a 5-star if they include parking charges in tickets fee, I was disappointed due to the limited parking space.
J. F.
Great zoo sad to see it go. A large selection of animals big and small. A nice circular walk around the place from enclosure to enclosure. Plenty of vending machines and places to get refreshments.
S. S.
Great day out, wandering around looking at everything. Will keep kiddies and adults amused for hours. The butterflies flying everywhere was my favourite part. Lots to see and do
M. H.
Amazing zoo! The exhibits were great and the animals were easy to see. There was a lot of things to do with kids. We spent about 4 hours here with our 3 kids and could have spent more time. We brought our buggy and it was easy to get around everywhere.
M. B.
Great little zoo, not as big as others, but there is plenty to see and it's seems very well maintained. Definitely worth a visit before it moves to a new location.
S. F.
Great day out, once I got passed the lions which looked a little sad but then they are moving to a bigger space so that's good. Lots to see and do, great little restaurant, plenty of hand sanitised, clean today and well thought out especially with current restrictions.
M. P.
First the negative, I'm not a fan of large animals in small spaces... You can see they aren't happy and it upsets me and my family seeing this ..
That aside, there is a fairly large collection of animals and insects to see here, you can spend a good 4 hours here and not rush seeing things. Great for the kids ...I hope the move to new premises is an added bonus.
J. O.
Great visit to Bristol Zoo. We took a taxi from the centre of Bristol 'V' cars costing about £8 at 11am on a Friday morning and took the direct bus back from the zoo to Temple meads station when we left. The pre booking on line in advance was very quick and simple. Remembering the zoo is the age it is it still is an amazing place to visit and does amazing work. I would highly recommend a visit. We stopped in the cafe for tea and cake and although I thought the prices were on the high side this was to be expected. The whole visit was very enjoyable.
R. W.
Great little zoo and little is all it is so no giraffes, elephants etc. Easier to walk around than some though such as Paignton! Like a motorway service station, expect overpriced food n drinks! Red Pandas are the stars of the show 😍
A. J. S.
Love it here, so sad it's closing. Such a great zoo with big enclosures and happy looking animals. Big range of animals too. Thank you!
L. B.
In transition and will move to a bigger and new location soon. It's small for a zoo but a good last chance to visit a traditional style zoo with a feeling of staff who care about the animals.
e. d.
A lovely place to have a day out. We had two 15 yr olds a 13 yr old and a 5 yr old. All had a great day.
Lots to do and see, food was great too.
High wire play thing was a hit.
M. G.
A very enjoyable afternoon spent here. Staff were great and loved seeing all the different animals. Jock the gorilla was my favourite.
T. R.
Small but well laid out zoo. Plenty to see. Lots of places to sit down and picnic which is important as the food and drink is extortionately priced.
S. M.
Bristol Zoo has announced it will close the doors of its 186-year-old site for good in September, with its animals set to move to a new location.
The Bristol Zoological Society said Bristol Zoo Gardens in Clifton will shut permanently on September 3, having been open to the public since 1836.
It is moving to the site of the society’s wildlife park, the Wild Place Project, in South Gloucestershire.
Since it first opened, the zoo has received an estimated 90 million visitors and helped save 175 species from extinction through its conservation programmes.
A. M.
Amazing, very impressed. I wasn’t expecting
much as it’s not on the same scale as London Zoo but I was blown away by the gorillas and lions, absolutely awesome. Well worth a day of your time. Plenty of space for picnics, plenty of vending machines for snacks and ice creams !!
S. A.
The animals are all so happy! The staff and volunteers are absolutely wonderful and also very happy and knowledgeable about their passions. If I'd say anything I'd say go and go now, donate and appreciate this place. You'll learn more than you expected for sure!
L. H.
Lovely Birthday day trip for youngest who braved the high robe Zooropia followed by generous scoops of Marshfield Icecream and lots of Animals. The sloths and Red Pandas were a hit along with the reptile house, Monkeys, Gorillas and Butterflies. The Zooropia staff were great with a 2 10yr old & a 13yr old. The lady was kind and patient with my daughter at the end when she was scared about the zip line. Obviously if they could they would have all has another go ! We pre booked opening time zoo tickets and Zooropia for 3/4hr later so no rush. Plenty of front parking available and entrance was very quick. It didn't feel overly busy despite the nice sunshine. Thanks Bristol Zoo.
H. F.
Love the Gorillas so much, as well as the Butterfly House! It is so surprised tht u can really hv a very close look or even touch with the butterflies! Definitely a nice visit!! We also managed to see the feeding of gorillas and it was so much fun! If you are still figuring go or not, my suggestion is YESSSSS since its moving soon!!
H. N.
Lovely zoo. Plenty to see, we spent about 4 hours walking around. It was the first time we had visited.
G. M.
Lovely day spent out. Particularly loved the talks throughout the day with a very enthusiastic team member. Great!
M. P.
It's not the same as it was, but that's probably a good thing based on animal welfare, but after nearly 200 years of being open, it's a sad day for Bristol to see it closed. I went there as a child some 40 years ago with my parents, as did my parents when they were kids. Bristol City, you should be going above and beyond to support and keep it going.
M. K.
It's amazing to go to Bristol Zoo with the whole family, advise everyone to go and see before they close next year, the hippos have gone already, the talks were great lots of great information, and don't forget to get your gifts as a keep sake as once it's gone it's gone. It's a shame that it's closing I have always loved coming here. Sad to see it go. 😔
M. T.
This is a must see attraction before its gone. Its a massive shame its closing.
The reasons its only a 3 star, the cost to visit the zoo. Food and any bits your children want to buy is so expensive, if things were more affordable I would have parted with more cash while on my visit.
L. J.
Best zoo I've been to! All animals seemed to have nice and big enclosures. I managed to randomly catch the sea lion and penguin feeding time which was really fun!
I. M. M.
Lovely day out with a nice selection of animals and birds. I was lucky to see a baby gorilla who made my day (was so cheeky and funny just like a human toddler); the lions were extremely close (in no other zoo or safari could be seen so close)
P. C.
We visit a lot of zoo's and this one is up there for variety, area vs attractions and general value for money. Some of the areas are so dark ( I.e nocturnal animals) that you couldn't really see what was going on. Its not what I'd call wheelchair friendly in all places but for the most there's ramps provided. All animal enclosures were a very good size with plenty of activities inside of each enclosure to keep them from getting bored. All in all a great day out.
M. S.
Super fun day out! Great idea for an activity right in the middle of beautiful Clifton. The animals are well kept and look happy. Can make a day out of it with lush picnic grounds and some cafes, kiosks and restaurant onsite. Definitely a stress buster and a day to relax and own your wild side. Enjoy the day with your loved ones or simply get away by your self, from the maddening crowds by escaping to this nature gem. A must see.
J. D.
We had an amazing time here such a diverse array of animals with really great viewing areas, lovely gardens to sit and enjoy the sun while you have a bite to eat and for the price you pay you cannot fault it! It's a real shame its closing for good in September visit NOW!!!
m. w.
Clean and tidy. staff were friendly. Animals looked cared for. Gift shop a bit pricey but that's as expected.
N. N. (.
My favourite animal in this place is Gorilla and the butterfly. No time to take a picture of them because I was very enjoying to see them. But yesterday was freezing cold to being outside.
J. M.
Felt Lions needed bigger deeper enclosure, but apart from that loved me visit to the zoo. Loved fact mainly smaller animals on display and lots of details about them available. Listened to talk given on the Lemurs and found it interesting and informative.
M. K.
We had a lovely time at Bristol zoo, staff were really nice and welcoming. Loved seeing the baby gorillas and the other animals, the lions were chilling out and the loved seeing the seals. The kids park was really nice. The prices for the tickets were not too bad, the gift shop is rather expensive. Overall it was a lovely day out and would definitely recommend.
J.
Very nice place for a family day out, but it would have been a lot better if there were more animals
r. b.
Always a good day out, good to see all the animals before the zoo moves home
G. L.
It's a shame it would close in September 2021 however the good news is that they have opened a new one call Wild Place and is also in Bristol.
d. d.
Easily accessible zoo that hosts a huge array of animals. Especially enjoyed the showings of the seal feed which was greatly educational. Heavily recommended to families and simply anyone looking for a fun day out.
E. B.
This was my first view to Bristol Zoo since I was a little girl and it didn't disappoint, there is so many animals to see, you can feed the animals and go into the enclosures.
Will definitely be going back
K.
One of the car parks was closed so the only one available was at the front of the Zoo £3 for an extremely small hard to park gravel carpark wasnt the best, entrance was quick and easy, in all honesty it was a nice place but you can see why it's closing down the whole place needs bigger and newer enclosures as they look very run down and small I'm not saying the animals arnt looked after because they seem pretty happy and healthy looking but it does look old and run down, staff were lovely and full of knowledge of the animals which was nice to see, Hope they are being moved to a bigger nicer place.
A. S.
Love Bristol Zoo. We visit a couple of times a year and it's always a great day, such a shame its closing and going to be turned into houses.
M. Z.
Compact yet lots to see and do. Great for kids and adults alike. Take a picnic as restaurant busy, busy. We walked from central Bristol as car park is small, and it was full at midday.
J. c.
Nice zoo for kids but not enough large animals for me and draught larger was warm
V. J.
Fantastic zoo, so sad that it is closing in September. Great for little ones as our isn't too big to get around
V. B. K.
The lions roared, the gorillas played, the meerkats were adorable, the beatles and fish like jewels, and the flamingos danced! It's looking slightly empty now as the impending move goes ahead, but a great time and cheerful staff
T. B.
A lovely zoo, have been before. Staff always very helpful and knowledgeable. I went with service users from work who have learning disabilities, staff were very patient and didn't talk down to them. Unfortunately some of the animal enclosures were closed maybe due to the move later in the year but still a lot to see. Will miss it when it's gone but the animals will benefit from new and better surroundings. Still a very enjoyable day out.
S. E.
Absolutely wonderful staff so friendly so much to see and the animals were fantastic
S. F.
Had a lovely day here with our twin grandchildren. Sad to know it's closing but in saying that, the children did make comments about the lack of some animals they had hoped to see ☹
S. R.
Great park, clean and friendly staff. However we did think it could improve with more exotic and wilder animals. Parking was not easy, but it was school holiday period.
D. C.
Really wonderful day out. I attended the Zoo Gardens with the family to support the Zoo from the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had.
You really can spend all day doing plenty of activities. The staff are very friendly and the Zoo keeps the animals in top quality homes which are clean and well cared for. The types of animals you can witness and experience are endless there are so many varieties of species. Definitely attending again.
s. f.
Wonderful day...a last look, lots of memories of this wonderful place. Will be a little history lost when it closes later in the year.
J. P.
Best day of our 5 day break. I absolutely loved the zoo. I wanted to come here before it closed and am so pleased l did.All the animals looked well cared for and healthy .The Zoo was lovely and tidy and gardens beautiful. We didn't use the food areas but visited the zoo shop which had a wide variety of goods to buy.We listened to the Lemur talk which was really informative and all staff were friendly and helpful
S. C.
Really enjoyed our day here
Staff really nice wasn't to busy.
It will be closed soon so I would go now.
L. P.
Took my 2 yr old grandson yesterday, the first time for him. Car park was full but was lucky enough to find a space to park in the street around the corner. All the animals were so lovely and well cared for. The staff around the park, all very friendly and helpful. Didn't get to see any penguins, otters or gorilla. The aquarium section was excellent, the fish are huge, totally amazed us. Nice little play park for the children. A lovely day out. Gift shop very expensive tho.
M. S.
Lovely old fashioned zoo. Popular with many members of the public. There's always plenty to see and do. I gather it's moving next year to join up with its Wild place project which is a great shame. I gather the Clifton site will be sold off for no doubt expensive housing I guess. Great shame.
K. B.
I had a good day here with lots to do and see. I just found that a lot of the animals looked really unhappy. The parking was easy but they should definitely move the hazards of the street.
I would recommend to friends and family.
j. p.
Lovely day out with the children. Right that it is closing, and moving to larger animal enclosures. The conservation work is where it's most needed
K.
Me and my friend loved it. He especially loved the lions, he's a lion fan aha
M. H.
The zoo is quite small at 12 or so acres, but is well presented and interesting. Plenty to see and do for everyone, the 4 hours we spent there went by quickly. Particularly enjoyed the seals. Well worth the ticket price.
J. S.
Loved it here all the animals was out so it was great to see them all. Unlike some zoos you go to you can't see anything like the animals but this place you can would go back again.
G. J.
This is a nice, small zoo. The keepers really do seem to care about the animals and they show a real interest in answering questions and talking about the animals.
It's a shame that the zoo is going to move. Financial impact from Covid-19 means they will have to sell up and move to a new site. They are unsure whether all the animals will be able to move to the new site. I hope that they can.
m. r.
Fantastic zoo, loads to see and learn! Beautiful enclosures for the animals, very impressed with the space and plenty for them to do, would recommend!
D. M.
Such a lovely relaxed zoo. Not the biggest around but it was lovely. A good selection of protected species. Was so glad we visited.
J. W.
We had a lovely time but some enclosures werent open
A. G.
Brilliant day out with the family. Lots of different animals to see close up. Very educational. Fun activities for children.
I. C.
Lovely clean zoo with some good exhibits. We were there for 3.5 hours and feel like we saw everything without rushing. Only let dow is the hilltop cafe which has a very limited menu, but it is also kept very clean.
N. D.
Pros: Definitely worth a visit. Lots of animals to see in their own habitats. The gardens are lovely. The food/drink was very nice also. Fun! Would recommend going at opening time befor gets busy.
Cons: It's just a tad hard to find where you need to go.Not enough signposts.
Can't help feeling a sense of neglect in places particularly around the aquarium areas.
C. G.
Some people may say that Bristol zoo isn't what it used to be but there are still loads of animals to see and still loads to do! There are nice places to eat and loads of tables around the zoo if you bring a picnic! Kids would definitely love it! Would recommend!
C. N.
Lovely day out, all social distancing measures in place, lots of hand sanitizing stations everywhere within the park too. It wasn't overly busy considering it was a Saturday at peak time, we arrived at our allocated book in time of 11am and spent a lovely 5 hours wandering around looking at the exhibits, however I was a little surprised at how small the lion enclosure was in particular for 2 magnificent animals, and they did look some what forlorn. There were some exhibits and shows not open or put on for obvious covid reasons, so this time the gorillas were only viewable from walking through the tunnel but we were able to get a glimpse of the new baby gorilla and a couple of others from above our heads as the tunnel is see through overhead. The butterfly garden was also closed which was a shame as this was one exhibit I would have loved to have seen, but that said, it is really understandable given we have just gone through a pandemic and safety and the health of visitors is paramount. We were extremely lucky with the weather too it was forecast to rain but turned into a gorgeous glorious day, perfect for our picnic. All in all our children thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did my husband and myself, and the staff there were all so friendly and helpful. We will no doubt be visiting again soon in the summer holidays, thank you Bristol Zoo❤️
D. B.
One of our favourite Zoo's. Wonderful experience for whole family.
R. B.
A great day out seeing all manor of creatures both great and small! Plenty to see and do, in a well thought out park with lots of rest stops and drinks available. Will certainly be returning one day.
A. J.
Great zoo, lots of animals. Closing down soon though. I do worry that the enclosures are too small for the animals
L. P. (.
Whilst social distancing restrictions were still in place at the time of visiting it was still well worth it. Some indoor exhibits are closed but there is still so much to see. Some enclosed areas required masks to be worn if you are not exempt. There were also markings on the ground to help social distance while queuing, though larger families tended to ignore this.
There are large grass areas to sit and have picnics. Almost all of the food places were closed, the only place opened had hot and cold drinks, ice cream and some food. But was quite expensive. There are plenty of vending machines around the zoo and bins!
Out of the many animals to still see our favourite was the seals. We spent quite some time watching them swim around.
There is a nice gift shop at the end, items are quite expensive. But you'll probably still buy something regardless!
R. G.
As a lot of people are aware, Bristol zoo will be closing soon in the future and this really shows in the zoo. Not only as quite a few enclosures are empty but the severe lack of animals and space really shows. We arrived at the zoo at 10:30am and were done by 1pm and stopped for a sit down and some food! And I only took two pictures which is really unheard of for me.
P. v. S.
Big fan of penguins so this place is a favourite local spot. The Gorillas currently have young too! Most importantly the animals are well looked after and part of a conservation initiative.
C. B.
Bristol Zoo like many old zoo's faces a similar space problem. They have clearly spent a lot of time and effort to make the enclosures as good as possible with the constraints they have. We enjoyed our visit today, it's a must this year with them closing due to lack of governmental support. A real shame!
Go now, visit them, too late to save this nice zoo but it will benefit their other location at Wild Place.
P. G.
Brilliant day out. Not got the biggest selection of animals but what they have got are great! Not too much walking between enclosures either.
E. L.
5 stars are for the beautiful gardens rather than the sadly depleted zoo.We had booked timed tickets for midday as a chance to meet family for the first time since 2019.We were a little perturbed to see a huge queue of folk going in at the same time as us who were buying tickets on the day-it seems timed tickets are no longer required.
The indoor exhibits were open and were crowded to start with, though quieter later.Quite a few cages were empty, the animals having already been moved on.We had a great day catching up with each other, and our grandchildren loved it.
It's still a pleasant venue, and our family is going to miss it.
e. s.
awesome day! Loved all the animals. Very surprised to see the lions roaring for the very first thing:) one way system is very good but expect queues in some places :(
S. C.
A good day out. Gorillas are worth the visit on their own. Difficult to social distance if that worries you. A step above most zoos in that most animals can be seen, very few 'empty' cages. Grandson enjoyed the task sheet, helped his reading and he learnt interesting facts. Food was surprisingly good with an efficient ordering system. You will have to pay for parking which is an extra cost.
J. N.
We come over half term. Me and my partner and our son. Really loved this zoo. We not been before was our first time. And we would come back again it's a shame they are closing the grounds was really nice and all the encounters was really clean
m. j.
Great place to bring the kids. It's family oriented and has lots to do. My kids loved the sloths and penguins and were amazed at the seals. They spotted the water park and luckily we had a spare change of clothes. The Hippo is on holiday in Florida. How do I get a job like that?
E. L.
Such a lovely place such a shame its closing this year. Love the seal and penguin enclosures. Great views and lovely run zoo
R. E.
I went with the Wife and two best friends and we we're all over the moon with the place . The zoo itself was Fantastic (Everything) and the Gardens beautiful. Really enjoyed our visit and would advise anyone thinking of visiting to do so .
R. G.
Lovely time on our 1st visit. Highlight was seeing the gorilla family being fed!
Y. H.
I wanted to visit here before it shuts for good in September and whilst there isn't a huge amount of animals to see and some of the enclosures were quite small for certain animals i.e the lions. It's still good to support the zoo for conservation purposes. I just hope when they relocate the animals have bigger enclosures
Q. “. M.
I went for my partner's birthday. It was a lovely day walking around and seeing all of the very happy animals. Jock's feeding time was quite exhilarating and the meerkats were excitingly play fighting!
A great little day trip, worth visiting A.S.A.P.
E. A.
It's bigger than what we expected. Gonna take 2-4hrs to enjoy and visit everything. It's really worth it.
M. T.
Still a great day out even although some of the exhibits were closed. It was looking a little bit shabby walls needing painting but it is closing in September.
I took my 5 year old god daughter and it was just perfect for 5 to 8.I used to take my children there all the time when they were at Primary school age and it still had that lovely vibe that we used to enjoy
P. D.
A wonderful place to visit with the kids.Such a huge Zoo with so clean and nicely maintained surroundings. You have to have a power packed energy drink💪😃 before visiting the zoo as you need to walk a lot.A very good source of information for kids as well as the adults. The best part is you got a clean and tidy restaurant within the premises with amazing pizzas and pasta and a must try hot chocolate😋😋.Also a beautiful play area for the kids . All the birds , animals, reptiles ,bugs and insects are very well taken care of.The best part was watching the flamingos and the seal.Would certainly recommend.Worth visiting. Also,if you travel by city bus and book the ticket online you get an additional 1/3 rd discount on your entry tickets👏👏👏.

Thoroughly recommend a trip to the zoo just before Christmas. Quiet, no crowds (but still other visitors so not isolated), could see everything and able to browse. Lovely lunch in the restaurant without any queues, but with lots of space. Best time to go and great to get away from the Christmas crowds!
J. N.
Great day out for all ages, lots to see and do, nice grassy area in the middle for a picnic, food, restaurant on site, lots of toilets.
V. P.
A great day out with the family, learned lots of new things about the animals and conservation. Plenty of places to stop for snacks and picnics. The 2 small children enjoyed the carousel and slide, and the highlight was the talk and feeding of the gorillas.
M. K.
Good collection of Flaura and fauna. Surprisingly big enough for a proper day out with a family. A lot to explore so come prepared. Car park outside charges flat fee of £5 all day. Cafe inside the Zoo.
v. t.
Reasonably priced and fun day out. Son enjoyed before the start of new school session and that what mattered.
S. B.
Loved it! Even with covid causing it to have to be a one way system we still managed to see all the animals appart from the butterfly room as it was closed, but it still took us 3 to 4 hours to get around and could easily have spent longer, wish we'd taken a picnic but had food in the resteraunt which was very nice!.
L. C.
What a fabulous place! We've had a brilliant day. Lots of monkeys, gorillas, flamingos, reptiles etc Hide Away Cafe was nice. We had bacon and sausage ciabatta and drinks. Shame it's closing in September. So glad we've had a chance to go.
A. F.
Superb zoo!!! Couldn't fault it absolutely fabulous.
S. E. W.
Bristol Zoo is to close September 2022 and relocate so we made one last trip. We booked in advance but there was no queue when we arrived so could have purchased tickets on the day. Tip - some of the animals seem to become more active towards the afternoon I. E after 3pm the gorilla's were fed and the lions came out. There is a stunning silver back gorilla named Jock who we were able to get close to through the glass whilst he picked his way through his vegetable dinner. Restaurant is clean with modern deco, there is a wait in line to be seated we only waited a couple of minutes to be seated. There are picnic areas and a large zoo shop which you exit through with loads of zoo memorabilia and cuddly toys. You can easily spend a whole day learning alot of information about reptiles, monkeys, seals, bugs, lions, fruit bat's, giant fish, birds, penguins, butterflies and much more. The fruit bat's were traversing the trees directly in front of us with no barrier and were fascinating to watch. We love this Zoo no doubt the new site will be amazing and we look forward to visiting in the future.
J. J.
Lovely visit, the one way system is a great way to see everything in the zoo. Would recommend to anyone and will be back in the future
C. C.
Really lovely zoo, small enough to see everything quite easily without having to walk miles, so great for the less able and kids. Loved the gorillas they were great.
P. R.
The zoo and Gardens are absolutely wonderful, and although I understand why the zoo is closing and moving to a new home, I really hope they don't lose the essence of the old place and there wonderful staff.
The day was almost ruined by the most awful food our party has ever had in their restaurant and at exorbitant prices too.
G. B.
A nice day out for the family.
Reasonably priced for adults at around £15pp, but in my opinion pricey for children. 0-2 years is free and then it costs just over £10.
Some elements are closed due to covid, but the whole site seemed covid secure to me. A clear one way system, masks worn for the indoor sections.
We ate at the hide. Great value and quality grub. A concise but pleasant menu. Good options for children. Currently order via app with table delivery, our meal was delivered in <15 minutes.
D. A.
Had a lovely day with our Daughter son in law and 5 months old Granddaughter. I had been taken here as a child I took my girls and wanted to share the experience with our Granddaughter before it closed. It was just as amazing as my first visit years ago.
T. L.
Most zoos have a thing you remember about them and for Bristol is was the aquarium. It was wonderful. Also for those amateur entomologist's like myself the zoo has a large selection of insects to see. Not much you can't find on the pet trade but still far more than most zoos offer.
L. ‘. P. C.
Was last here 10 years ago, and it shows 10 years worth of ageing sadly. Naturally some of the animals were not available to see (August’ 21) and it seems smaller than we remember? Parking is a bit of a nightmare and if you park on the surrounding roads make sure the location on the machine is correct! A mistake can be easily made when the machine is on the crossroads and there is more than one road!
I. F.
The gardens are looking fantastic. There is a good range of animals as well as a play area and tree top trail. A must visit before September 2022 before it closes!
C. G.
A lot packed in, in a small area. Sensible selection of animals given the space. Lots behind glass rather than fence. Was privileged to see the gorillas being fed outdoors. Get in quick - it's closing September 2022 to be combined with Wildplace elsewhere in the Bristol area.
S. C.
It's one of the guys places for kids to day out. Though it will be closed by September 2022, the zoo will be remembered forever. Rope experience was great. The zoo was well maintained.
T. 3.
Lovely zoo, currently one way system but are welcome to travel around more than once if needed.
Lots of different animals to see. Alot of information on the animals to read which is great.
Would come back again.
Child friendly, wheelchair access to most areas that I can remember.
N. C.
Lots of lovely gardens for picnicking. Animals are adorable as well.
M. S.
It was a good activity keeping my grandkids active and running all day. I was crawling by 1pm. I was surprised what was fit in a smaller space. It has a logical lay out and good crew
A. H.
We attended as Colchester zoo members and we’re so happy with the Covid one way system meaning we saw all the animals and found all the buildings to be really lovely.
This is a very relaxing zoo. You are able to get really close to animals and plenty to see. The member offer also meant we explored lots of bristol.
T. C.
With how things are with restrictions and the one way system at the moment it takes about 45min to get round nd that's having little stops as well where there is a bit of a built up area of people who are stopping to look a bit more looker at the more popular animals. But that did make u feel like u had to move on then with the crowd. I think tho everyone will be be glad when things go back to normal now. The butterfly house isn't open still. One thing I will say is that I'm glad they have moved the sloths near to the flamego so you now can get to see them and the baby. Don't no why they had them in the dark in the first place
s. l.
I haven't been here in 10 years but am planning on going back in a couple of weeks but what I remember of the place it's a great day out, was going through photos and found loads and the memories came flooding back, cannot wait to get back to see what has changed in 10 years, brilliant day out with lots of animals
j. g.
Great to visit again, but more for the nostalgia than the actual zoo. Some of the animals have already been moved out, some attractions were shut. Still a great day out, just not what I remembered it as.
J. F.
Went to Clifton Pavilion in Zoo Gardens for a celebration. Amazing grand venue. Visited Hide cafe in the zoo for delicious coffee. Beautiful Gardens. Will be sorry to see Zoo Gardens close.
C. B.
There was 7 of us who went 4 adults and 3 children. We had a fantastic day, seeing all the wonderful animals. Each animal had a gentleman called Connor talking on a microphone telling us all about where the animals come from, what they eat etc.... Connor is very knowledgeable about all the animals and also offers everyone to ask any questions when he finished talking. My 2 grandchildren a boy 5 and a girl 4 followed him around the park calling his name, he was amazing with them and my grandchildren have remembered Connor and everything he said about the animals.
You can use card or cash there, even the park has ice cream vending machines that take card or cash.
My mobility scooter tyres went down, so the lovely lady in reception called a park maintenance man and he came with a pump and pumped my tyres up.
Everyone in Bristol zoo is so helpful and welcoming, it was a truly wonderful day.
M. M.
Have been a few times over the years and always really enjoy a visit here.
I'm saddened to see that they will be closing / moving later this year but will certainly be visiting the Wild Place Project in the near future.
Good luck guys x
L. M.
Pretty quiet when we arrived at 2pm. Staff were friendly. Good selection of animals who were prepared to brave the weather and indulge prying eyes. Overall I would recommend
H.
Fantastic zoo! Animals are so so well looked after all the enclosures are so well done and clean! Staff Friendly and very helpful!
Highly recommended
M. W.
Had a great time, kids loved the high wire and the water play area.
N. m.
Really nice visit today, the animals were great to see and very clean and tidy all around. The kids activities were really good too.
J. J.
Brilliant day out. £5 for parking. We took a picnic but looked like there were places to eat inside and out. The butterfly house was magical 😊
W. B.
Have been for a few years. Looking forward to the new zoo that they are moving to
R. G.
We went here for a little day out driving from South Wales. Easy to get to and the parking was made easy (it's £4 but you can use card) thanks to the wardens. It was a quiet day when we went so walking around was a breeze. All the animals seem well looked after and most enclosures had some keepers nearby explaining and talking about the creatures inside.
The park itself is very nice and well kept, and the gardens and plants are really great. There's plenty of areas to walk about and play with children too. There is also a little restaurant that serves nice food. The pasta I had was good.
Two of the standout enclosures were the penguins/seals and the butterflies. The seals were shooting about under and above the water, and you were able to go underground to see them like I've never seen them before.
The butterfly enclosure was very pretty and they were flying around everywhere, allowing you to get extremely close to them.
Overall a good day out and well worth it, especially if you book online cheap!
L. K.
We love Zoos and Bristol Zoo is an old favourite. The best part was by far the reptiles. It’s a small Zoo compared to Chester and others we have visited. It still has it’s charms.
The grounds are kept tidy, and there is a lot of information and helpful staff.
My children love big cats and were so pleased to see a Lion up close, but also sad as the enclosure didn’t look that big. I am sure it was more significant behind the promenade. The variety of animals that they care for is pretty good, and there is plenty to see. Still worth a visit if you are tagging it onto something else in Bristol.
There was a food area, the food was very good, and the kids were happy, that is a miracle.
The meerkats were extraordinarily entertaining, and it was pleasant to learn all about them there.
A lovely day out.
R. D.
Awesome zoo, loads to do. Would easily be a full day out for all the family. Very helpful friendly staff. Will defiantly be back when lockdown has eased some more, so the smaller sections will be back open. Zoo is much bigger than it looks on the outside. The enclosures for all of the animals are huge with lots of enrichment (especially for the monkeys). Beautiful gardens around the zoo too. The lego models around the zoo are awesome too!.
K. M.
We spend lovely day. It is small zoo and my 5 years old son said that missing giraffe and elephant, but he was happy.
J. D.
Zoo was well kept and animal enclosures maintained.
Lack of signs and markings on the paper map made it confusing to make our way around.
Lunch in The Hide was disappointing, a 30+ minute wait when on ordering a guide time was 10mins wait as they were not busy
d. p.
Tone of the best zoo experiences, I've had in a long time. They had a nice one way system around the zoo. a must go. you wont be disappointed
G. T.
Lovely zoo and gardens with a very friendly and relaxed feel. Will be sorry to see it close but understand the need for more space for larger animals.
B. H.
Getting a last few trips in before it closes. Lots of things seem to be slowly disappearing but it's still a great visit. Will be missed. Price should maybe be reduced to reflect there being less there up to closing.
S. V.
We had a lovely time and the kids enjoyed it 10 times more than us. With lots to do and big play areas and a great system to let people in (timewise). We didn't have to queue and it wasnt so busy that you felt crowded.. The animals were all out and loving the attention and everything looked clean and tidy and well maintained, even though its closing in September.. I hope to go again before it closes but if not, I look forward to the new one opening in 4 years.
P. G.
Beginning to run down before its closure in September, but still plenty to see and do. Was a busy day in half-term. Our 10-yr-old grandson loved it.
N. A.
A lovely little zoo. Good prices for entry and the little restaurant, which is take away only at the moment, is fairly well priced to.
The animals are all in lovely condition as are all the enclosures. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are toilets dotted all around the area which is very handy. We had a wonderful time and is was a real pleasure to see the 2 week old baby gorilla up close. A lovely place to visit.
A. C.
Very popular but journeying around still unhindered. Car parking and entry queue well managed. Some animals missing or entirely unviewable (eg ring tailed lemurs enclosure closed). However, the acrobatic lemurs a spectacular! Silverback gorilla's feeding time very popular. Very wide range of animals, birds etc viewable. Excellent refreshment venues and machines; and excellent children's adventure playground. An amazing and reasonably priced day out with the kids🙂
C.
The main point I would make is that what you see looking at it on google maps is misleadingly small, it makes it look like a short half hour walk when you can easily spend a couple of hours + here.
Zookeepers are also exceptionally friendly, will gladly help you and give you advice (was sat outside an exhibit and got recommended to go and look at the kangaroos as they were more active than usual)
Gift shop is cute, and feedings/events were often common, and all were with a good view. for example, I haven't been here without seeing at least one exhibit undergoing a "show", such as the penguins being fed.
M. F.
It made me travel back in time, to my childhood memories. A great place to hang around and the best for photography. It's so sad that it's closing down, hope the inmates get a better habitat.
R. P.
A good day out for adults and children alike. Animals and picnic spots along with playground for kids... What better way to spend a family day out.
D. B.
It was good but felt the social distance rules could be more enforced the toilets were well supervised and delt with well. People moaned about them, but it's there for a reason peps. We had a great day out, even with the heavy rain. Something we did not know about (didn't really read up on it) parking is 4.50 for the day.
K. R.
We've had many a happy day at Bristol zoo. It's a great size with a lovely restaurant and plenty to see and do. We're really going to miss it in Clifton, it's been a true Bristol gem.
D. D.
Lovely Zoo we really enjoyed our visit. Went by bus so saved on entrance fee. Well worth a visit whilst it's still in Bristol.
D. M.
Was lovely. The only thing annoying was there was not any sign posts pointing us I'm the right directions and the map was confusing for me after I've had strokes. We got lost a fair few times and walked kn the same circles. Haha. I suggest sign posts in these places with arrows on.
M. E.
Absolutely amazing variety of animals, the staff were super friendly and informative. Even when busy you are still able to see all the animals well. The underwater sections were also very good fun and allowed you to see the animals in a different light. The butterfly garden was an amazing experience and the staff helping out were very friendly and explained lots about the the whole process and what was going on there.
P. H.
Great zoo doing a lot towards conservation. It's nice to go with your family but it can get very busy so maybe avoid the weekends?
K. A.
Absolutely amazing. Going back again soon. Animals so well cared for, polite and helpful staff. Amazing atmosphere all round
A. Z.
Worth to see, lots of space for kids and for rest, but for those prices we expect to see much more animals (especially those big and wild ones)... I guess they are allerady moved to Wild Place Project in different part of Bristol.
S. (.
Unfortunately the zoo is closing and moving to a new site so it's not quite as good as it used to be.
R. S.
Lovely zoo, really nice feel to it and a good range of animals. I'm from Southampton and I'm used to Marwell Zoo, which is depressing in comparison
M. B.
A fantastic day out for the family. A wide variety of wildlife from flamingos to lions. All the obvious attractions you’d expect. The restaurant was spacious and the good was good. Plenty of baby changing facilities. Parking was easy and in close proximity to the Zoo. At £4 unlimited the parking was a very reasonable price. I would highly recommended this attraction for a fun day out. My only negative was that pushchair access was not easy st times and wheel chair users may struggle as none of the doors were extra wide or powered. Other than that a brilliant day out. We will be back again soon
M. A.
Accomadating and ample parking. There was a track from start to end so we can go around easily. Good toilet facility and reasonable restautant. Well maintained over all
A. R.
Lovely day out with little one
K. J.
Very beautiful place to visit for kids and adults. We spent 3hour walking around, but if you have time you can stay all day in there. There are several feeding times, meanwhile you can enjoy interesting stories about animals as well as look how they eat. If you cycle to the Bristol zoo, you can get 33% discount for your entrance ticket.
R. G.
I would highly recommend Bristol Zoo Gardens as a day out. The staff and keepers are fantastic, every bit as knowledgeable as you'd want them to be. Excellent variety of animals, clean paths, engaging activities for children.
I caught the seal show and loved it.
The tunnels definitely added to the experience.
N. W.
Happy memories of the zoo. Animals well looked after, friendly staff, pleasant gardens. Go before this site closes in September.
m. g.
An inspiring day out for my 7 year old son and I. I'm very glad we went before the zoo closes in September. Thanks to everyone that made this place and cared for the animals
T. P.
Much better than expected. I was a bit wary because some reviews here had complained about a lot being closed because of the Coronavirus, and that there were no big animals. But the only thing we found closed was the Butterfly House, and even though the only big animals were a couple of lions and a family of Gorillas, there were so many of those animals that make you go "ooh it's a ..." that it was a real highlight of the trip. Red pandas, piranhas, puffer fish, archer fish, ring-tailed lemurs, gibbons, armadillos, assassin bugs, leaf ants, tarantulas. There was of course nesting penguins and sealions at feeding time, along with a family of meerkats.
H. B.
Love love this place, was quite busy as half term but didn't have to queue for to long, however if you want to eat take a picnic we queued for a while to get into the restaurant then it said nothing was available so had to go upto the till and order bit chaotic, love the animals will be sad to see the little zoo close
T.
Alot of the park seemed to be closed as they were indoor areas but the bits that were open were good, lots not wearing masks when asked either.
B. P.
Fantastic place to visit! Loved the whole zoo all of the animals looked as happy and healthy as they can be. Would definitly recommend anyone to go. And we will be returning as the butterfly enclosure was closed for refurbishment and the flamingos weren't there as they were having their annual health check.
K. B.
Great place, the gardens are well keep, it is a shame it is closing in September.
P. F.
Had a great day out at Bristol zoo gardens. Definitely one of my favourite zoos. So clean and tidy and so many different animals there. It is a pretty small zoo compared to others so only need 3/4 hours here.
A. S. (. L.
First time visiting Bristol Zoo and absolutely loved it. Definitely one of the best zoos I've visited. Was a fun day out for my daughters 4th Birthday. She and her cousins loved it ❤ 100% recommend anyone wanting to visit before it closes 🙂
S. “. P. W.
Bristol Zoo is a very beautiful park which is small but contains an array of impressive animals like lions and gorilla's to a butterfly walk-in enclosure.
The zoo is very tidy constantly and is looked after very well. Accompanying the zoo are staff that always seem busy looking after the animals which is admiring, they're really easy to approach and have a chat with about the animals!
As for price, the zoo charges a fairly reasonable price for entry at around £18 for an adult. The zoo also contains many facilities like a restaurant as well as a gift shop.
M. O.
A great pity that this beautiful little zoo is closing after this summer (2022), very close to clifton suspension bridge so look to visit on the same day. Well worth the entrance fee.
T. W.
Great that the zoo is open again to see the unique animals. The reptile house, bug house, twilight zone and butterfly house are all still closed at present because of social distancing issues and because of the humid temperatures that they have to be kept at. The disappointing thing is that their indoor cafe is completely shut which I could not quite understand as all other indoor cafes, restaurants and bars are open in the city so as it was a rainy day there was no where to eat food under cover - something to bear in mind.
J.
Quite small but super pretty gardens with some amazing animals 😍
M.
It is a lovely zoo, if you want to go for a mooch/day out, it isn't very big but it definitley is bigger than it looks from the outside. Animals are kept well, you don't see many staff/zoo keepers around but it is a nice place.
For how small the zoo is the prices to get in are a bit steep, £17 to get into. We spent little over 3 hours there so still enough time to be mooch about and see everything.
The penguin and seal enclosures are well worth the visit when there.
A. K.
Went to visit the zoo with the family and happy that we didn't pay full price as we were slightly disappointed. I thought the zoo would have been bigger. Some very interesting animals and great to see the giant tortoises as well as the lions. There is plenty to do and look at and some great experiences to be had. The kids had a great time but we all wished that there would be more.
The lions looked as if they needed a greater enclosure as one just lay there whilst the other was pacing around in a small circle. The same seemed to be with the sea lions who kept going round in small circles which was a bit worrying.
Parking costs £3 and you can find a place not far from the entrance so you don't have to walk too far. Food is overpriced and the coffee is weak but warm should it be cold outside. There is a playground where the kids can play and the parents can sit and relax.
All in all it's ok I would say but wish it where bigger. On the positive side they have made great use of the limited space that this zoo offers.
S. M.
Lovely family day out. You can get really up close with the animals and the staff are all on hand to answer any questions. Feeding the birds is a wonderful experience for all ages and the butterfly house is also a hit. Never had an issue with parking although the car park is pretty small. We always take our own food but there are facilities there in which to purchase but as with all places, expect to pay for this. All in all, a lovely day out.
A. C.
Even with restriction at the moment, this is still a lovely place to visit. Visit if you can for in a year or more this attraction will cease to be here. It will merge with the Wildplace project.
A. T.
What a lovely zoo, we did go during covid restrictions but it was and lovely day, we didn't get to see certain animals but was still nice
l. l.
Lovely day spent here today. Very well organised although a lot still closed which was a shame. Staff friendly and helpful and felt very safe as one way system in place. Plenty of hand gel etc.
C. L.
Excellent family time! Children were thrilled to see all the animals and play in the park. Amazon facilities.
L. M.
We like to visit lots of different zoos
When i first pulled up we had to pay £3 for the car parking, which we were expecting, good job i had change for once. I was a bit worried when we got there as it looked small and i thought there wasnt much to do. I was wrong. we had an amazing day we were there from 10 to 4. we did all the animal encounters and enjoyed them. They were very interesting. the animals were stunning and to be so close to the fruit bats it was amazing. The food was nice and there are vending machines if you wanted anything on the way around. There is also hunts for the kids to do too and he enjoyed finding out facts. The gorillas were amazing too. we really enjoyed it. highly recommend for a day trip. We brought our tickets online so it was quick and easy.
A. Z.
Its the best zoo we have been to. Had really lovely time. Staff is so helpful aswell
M. F.
Great place to visit with the family. It is looking quite old in places but it will be closing next year so get your visit in if you want to go before that happens.
C. S.
The zoo is easy to get around by wheelchair. It's very condensed which is good if you aren't able to walk all day or have toddlers. The animal enclosures were well maintained. During the winter months, sadly a lot of the walk in enclosures are closed but I am looking forward to going back in the summer months.
What let this zoo down for me was the rude parking staff. £4.50 to park was a shock. Nearly £10 for two sides of chips, wow! Take a packed lunch. A packet of pombears cost me £1.50.... yeah, as always with a zoo, bring a packed lunch or a wad of cash.
Also, the lion enclosure wasn't very big, at one point the male. lion was up to his belly in wet mud.
Lastly, the highlight for me was the gorilla house. It's a must visit!
C. H.
Quite a small zoo but nonetheless a really good one!! As you can tell we loved seeing the lions and being able to get so close to them. I got some photos on my film camera. We also went to the seal talk and feed which was great, the keepers were knowledgable and could tell you all about the animals. The zoo was like a maze so we walked round there for a good 2/3 hours. Recommend to anyone!
M. L.
Wonderful zoo. Shame it is closing soon to build over-priced housing. The replacement zoo will be leaving Bristol for South Glos. Totally ridiculous.
I hope their plans to do this are stopped.
M. A.
Lovely day out, went on a weekday so wasn't very busy. Really nice surroundings to sit down and have a bite to eat. Lots to see and do, would be good if the nocturnal rooms had some sort of UV lighting very hard to see where you're going and to convince a 3 year old that it's not scary.
N. “. G.
Not gonna mark them down for the stupid people clearly not caring about social distancing or thinking that others would like to see the animals. But the zoo is amazing as ever the path they have is very clear and easy my youngest brother loves the day out
J. F.
Great day out for the kids. Some will consider it an expensive day, but think of the cost of maintaining such a place...if you take a packed lunch then its only your admission fee, which isn't that bad really.
Here is a very small selection of images...the place is great.
Bear in mind if you "join" the Zoo, become a member, then visits are free...check it out.
L. T.
We love this zoo, up near Clifton. Easy to access. Onsite chargeable parking, or roadside pay & display parking with a generous 5 hour limit.
Beautiful layout, gardens are currently alive with colour (April). Wide variety of animals to see, flamingos, lion, reptiles, bats, aquarium, butterfly house, monkeys, gorillas, hippos and more....our favourite of this visit were the ring-tailed lemurs. You can walk through their enclosure. The family unit were on form including 3 new additions.
Also loved the penguin and sea lions.
In addition a lovely play area for the younger children along with other activities and a high ropes course for the older ones and adults (at an extra cost). We thought it was a great day out and value for money.
K. M.
Had a lovely, post-lockdown, extended family, day out at the Zoo!
Felt very privileged to witness the bond that's probably deepened during lockdown between staff and animals. The sight of a fully grown male lion spotting his 'buddy', and clearly wanting to play, was beautiful!
Staff were unobtrusive but helpful. The addition of an adventure playground since I was there last, was well organised and great fun for those of us watching, as well as participants, as adults and children alike, battled with the zip-wire!
My family group ranged in age between 11 months and 70 years and every one of us had an amazing day out, in spite of the rain!
It'll be sad to see the 'old place' go, but I look forward to experiencing the new more spacious zoo, whenever that happens...
S. G.
Came all the way from Bulgaria to visit the zoo! Amazing! Too bad that some parts were closed to public. Will return with grand kids.
J. R.
Great day out, wonderful garden setting, looking forward to visiting the new place and look with interest on how the site at the old zoo is going to be re-purposed.
M. A.
Lovely place. Spent under 3 hours as a couple and that included a stop for a picnic and listened to one of the many educational and entertaining talks/feeds. Lovely play areas for children and avtivity centre... would be a very good family day out. Wish it was a bit bigger though but could definitely spend longer if had children.
S. H.
Wonderful zoo with plenty to do for the young ones. We kept ourselves amused for a good few hours (no kids). I like the way they haven't got too much information to read about everything, I feel too many places fall into that trap. There's just enough to read in time to catch up with your wife who has wondered off! We would certainly come again.
G. E.
Visited at a fairly quiet time and although some of the animals were asleep at first they did make appearances later in the day. Staff were friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. There are regular talks for the more popular animals and a large variety of creatures. Food/drink prices are very high, hence the 4*
e. p.
Lots of different animals on display a good place to take your kids. The only problem was seeing the lions in their enclosure they didn't look happy and kept pacing around I don't think they should be at Bristol zoo.
H.
One of the smallest zoo's I have been too but nice little selection of animals. Loved the gorillas and staff were very friendly and talked to us for a bit on the baby ones.
Had a nice day..
L. B.
Some of the animals have already been relocated to wild place but no reduction in cost. No giraffes or zebras and several small exhibits removed. Shame no notification of this.
I. V.
A great day out!! We got a nice sunny day for it which made it all the better. Got there nice and early as so much to see. Caught the lion talk and saw feeding times for the penguins, seals, lemurs, meerkats and the gorillas. The restaurant seemed expensive but then our food was brought out and it was proper restaurant quality so fair enough, portions were great. Lots of space outside if you want to picnic. Easy to get there by bus and was given a 33% refund for not taking a car, happy days!
D. F.
Plenty of animals but the one way system made enjoying a walk around the site very limiting.
Not as much fun for our younger children but I hope it would improve if we decide to go back.

Lovely place to visit at Bristol Zoo clifton. Great to visit the animals. We had to book online for tickets due to social distancing reasons. But with a lot of effort put in place at the zoo we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Sanitizers dotted all over the place, and toilets were open by the hide cafe. Loved it and thoroughly recommend it.👍
b. l.
Was amazing. Really good day out thoroughly enjoyed it
M. B.
Lovely zoo, can get very close to the animals. Great for those who would like to see the animals we share our world with up close
K. P.
Great zoo with plenty of enclosures and lots of opportunities to get close to the animals. Only negative is the seals are showing signs of repeated circuits that can mean extreme boredom. Also good if the weather isn’t great as lots of indoor stuff.
r. r.
I live 20miles away from the zoo so it's reasonably local. I've been here many times with the kids and always seem to have a good time here. Loads to do, nice size, plenty of animal's. Spent nearly 5hours here this time around.
C. A.
It wasn't the perfect weather when we went but it was easy parking and friendly staff right from the start. Loved the art they had scattered around the zoo grounds and all the facts. All the animals seem well cared for and where easy to see. When we came to the fish section we came just on time for feeding and a staff member explaining about the various fish. My 3 year old and 2 year old loved it!
When we went to the restaurant area it was very crowed and where a little high for our liking (hence why we didn't buy much food). The entrance to the restaurant did keep the kids entertained while we waited though.
We would definitely go again!

Historical zoo that is still fabulous for all age groups - do not miss the gardens bit too

A lovely day out. Ive been to many zoo's that have a massive price range. This has got to be one of the best zoo's I've been to for a great price.
There is so much to do there. I went to a couple of talks/feedings of the animals, I found it very informative and fun at the same time. There is also alot of activities for kids to do.
If you are visiting Bristol, I would definitely recommend going.
E. G.
Be mindful it is a zoo within the urban area. Careful parking. Lovely place. Good exhibits. Fair animal selection and interaction. Liked the aquarium and water exhibits. Only a full day out if you go round gently.
P. J. I.
Amazing selection of animals in Bristol. Reasonably priced refreshments. Great signs and information and lots of recycling points around which back up the environmental message the zoo is aiming to put across.
Gardens are stunning in the summer.
Reptile house is great.
P. H.
Looking for a respectable animal prison in the Bristol area? Look no further! 😉
Joking aside, this is a lovely zoo, with well maintained enclosures, a good selection of animals which appear well cared for and suitability housed and an overall well presented attraction, where conservation and environmental impact is the clear message.
The entrance fees are typical for this sort of attraction (if not perhaps a bit cheaper than some of the bigger zoos and safari parks in the UK) and parking, although limited on space, is only £4 for the day.
There are several food kiosks around and a main restaurant, which is now enclosed (making far more sense with the amount of seagulls in the area!), all offering a selection of snacks and meals, at a reasonable cost (not cheap or even good value for money, but reasonable for this sort of thing).
The staff are all polite and friendly, happy to offer advice or information on any of the species on display and they all seem to take a genuine care and interest in the animals they look after (which seems like an obvious thing to say, but clearly isn't always the case in other attractions).
In summary, a good few hours out, enjoying the wildlife of the world and a nice walk around the grounds. Highly recommended.
k.
Lovely staff, fantastic facilities and animal enclosures all clean and animals look happy. One way system works very well although some areas still closed to the public.
If all areas were open to the public then I would have had no issues rating 5 stars.
Second visit in 11 months and will most definitely be back again and again.
R. M.
Ive been here quite a few times and its always been very enjoyable. the only problem is i am in my early 20s I first went to the zoo when I was a toddler and not a lot has changed in the zoo it would be nice to see a bit of difference maybe more animals with new enclosures and stuff.
w. s.
Bristol Zoo has a plethora of activities that goes beyond the fabulous animals to make it a wonderful day out. I would recommend going early so you can park more easily and to catch the earlier feeding time of the bats and the gorillas. The talks are entertaining with added little gems of info on the animals. The cafe does do some lovely food and a great cup of tea but does get crowded quickly. However, you can bring your own picnic and there are places to sit undercover or outside. Bring a towel as their is a small area where children can get wet and love too! If you catch the butterfly exhibition at the right time it is magical. A place to visit again and again.
M. L. M.
It's an ok zoo but most of the animals didn't feel content or happy from the facial expressions I saw back along which was a shame but conservation was not as renound back in 2004 compared to now.
R. K.
I loved Bristol zoo, brilliant for all ages. I went on the bus (which drops you off outside the zoo) and i visited at the beginning of March and the weather was lovely
They had lots of different animals to see and the layout was perfect. The bat cave was amazing and my favourite animal had to be the seals! They were fantastic and you could walk underneath and view them swimming around. Other animals include flamingos, penguins, insects, wild cats and beautiful birds.
Plenty of cafe's to stop off at along the way and the gift shop at the end was superb!
A must see!
G.
Zoo is very well kept. It is always tidy and gardens are tidy and they have lovely flowers. There are plenty for adults and children to do, so you could spend all day there easily.
They have recently refurbished their restaurant, it looks beautiful and very high end BUT it is table service, and I think having young children it is hard and you feel under pressure to keep them quiet and keep the table and area tidy. I feel it is more of an adults area than somewhere where you can take children, but it was nice and the prices weren't bad!
P.
With only a two hour drive for me, Bristol Zoo is defiantly somewhere to go. Well looked after by the staff and friendly atmosphere. Need at least a few hours and having it open early on Sunday gave you the chance to wonder around in your own leisure. Thank you for an awesome day.
P.
Great day out. Lots to see and do and very informative. Very focused on conservation. Not too bad price wise for entrance but I personally think the food and drink is very expensive once inside. Also a £4 charge for parking.
m. T.
Very disappointed. ..5 year old granddaughter was thinking when we told here she was going to the zoo that she would see a bear, kangaroos and giraffes. ..not having not been there for approximately 50 years I was surprised that none of them were there as well as no elephants. I was looking forward last week when we decided to go to see the monkeys in the monkey temple. ...no longer being used, very disappointed.
G. M.
Lovely day out for all ages! Love going there can’t wait to take my daughter there before it closes soon! 😊
B. P.
What an amazing zoo. Great place to go with family. The staff are so friendly. The talks they do about the animals are really helpful. Great range of different wildlife. Definitely worth going.
s. c.
Lovely zoo. Really well thought out one way system snd good access to hand gels. Animals seemed quite content and well looked after. A fab 3 hrs that kept my boy very happy
Y. S.
The zoo is nice and clean and staff are friendly. Parking could pose a problem on busy days. At the moment they have dinosaurs, not many though. So for my son that was the main attraction, which makes it just about value for money. Without the the dinosaurs and just the zoo, it is not worth paying £18 per adult and £14 per child.
The zoo has has small range of animals, they don't have the popular animals such as elephants and giraffes. Although, they do have lions and gorillas that you can see very close up. The sea lions and penguins sections are very good and this and the lions were my son's highlight of the day out along with the dinosaurs.
They also do live shows with commentary from expert zoo keepers, which is good, however, it can get overcrowded at busy times.
The zoo has a nice restaurant, which serves food for lunch and also serves tea and coffee and a selection of cakes, which are average prices compared to other high street coffee shops.
C. J.
We had a lovely day out at Bristol zoo today. Its located close to the city centre of Bristol and we managed to find free parking on the parallel street as both the west and north car park were full. It saved us £4 so why not?!
The entrance price was okay and our son being under 2, was free!
When you go in the first thing on the left is the lions which were really nice and close to the window, they also have interactive "games" such as "how does a lion mark his territory" which our son found quite funny to press!
They have beautifully tended to magnolias, tulips and other flowers and there was a small carousel for a further £1.50 which was quite a long ride time which was great for out little one.
They have butterflies, fish, sea lions, penguins (humbold) and many more.
We will definitely return soon, I would recommend this zoo to friends and family.
N. J. (. P.
We had a fantastic day at Bristol zoo. For a smaller zoo it has plenty to keep the kiddies and grownups happy. Plenty of walk through enclosures such as the leemurs and bats. Tunnels for the Amazon fish so you feel like your in their habitat. The lions were so close!! Really good day.
D. C.
A nice zoo where the animals seem content and the keepers are friendly and knowledgeable. Not a huge range of animals but there are plenty of timed talks to make each enclosure visit very interesting and informative. Top tip- avoid the hide cafe, it's extremely overpriced for the poor quality food they serve, best to bring a packed lunch or buy from the outdoor burger stall.
J. W.
Been coming here since I was a kid been some great memories made here, unfortunately the place is looking tired now but fully understand why sorry to see the place go look forward the new zoo
R. D.
A great place to visit. Good value for money. Some really cool enclosures. The highlights for me were the gorillas and the sea lions. The restaurant served really good vegetarian and vegan food too. Definitely worth a visit.
L. J.
Gorillas and other primates were amazing and had plenty of space. Lions looked a little cramped and because of some closed areas we managed the whole zoo at a gentle pace in lees than two hours (and we did the one way system twice).
S. P.
I love Bristol Zoo. Friendly staff, lots of information about the animals and conservation efforts. Discounts if you arrive by cycle, bus etc (the number 8 stops outside). Lots of animals, birds, reptiles etc to see. A good day out.
D. S.
Haven't been to a zoo for years but loved my recent visit. Plenty of opportunities to see animals up close and relaxed. Very friendly staff full of useful information. Will be happy to visit again!
A. E.
Have been to some of the best zoos in the world and this was left sitting in my top 3 ! Had something to everyone and took me personally the longest to get through ! Animals looks after extremely well and a lot of re breading programs in place to help wildlife nature ect , was also nice to have its own restaurant in the zoo for lunch which was very busy but fast service, had numerous ramps for those who have a disability or buggy’s and overall thought the zoo on a hole as a day out was brilliant !
T. Y.
Had such a fun day at Bristol Zoo! Spent over 5 hours here, as there's so much to :) I've attached a photo of some of the conservation efforts being carried out. This definitely stood out for me, because it's a subject close to heart and I am happy to see if being done! There are so many informative talks for all ages and there's plenty to do for children! Gift shop... incredible 😍
Food is overpriced though!!
G. S.
Love the zoo, I've been coming here since the 80's. Great for a family day out. Loads to do from seeing the animals, handling bugs and other animals, face painting, play areas, cafe, grill shack and loads of other things. Check it out 😀
J. P.
Lovely and enjoyable day with 11 and 13 year olds. Chilled out wander around the zoo, enjoying the antics of the animals. Zooropia good fun. Favourite animals - cheeky seal, Maras, ducks!, and many many more.
L. A.
Fantastic for a family day out. Lots of well-cared for, unusual and interesting animals to observe (eg. the sand cat, gila monsters and fruit bats, which were among my favourites). The entrance and gift shop was extremely crowded but the rest of the zoo was not. My younger sister and I both loved the animal show (especially the raccoon and the skunk) which was entertaining and amusingly.
A. G.
Very nice little zoo. Their small animals seem to be doing fairly well, but the welfare of their otters, gorillas and lions needs considerable improvement.
Food at the cafe is lovely, but rather pricey. Gift shop have every possible fluffy animal anyone might want.
S. K.
So relaxing to have a picnic. Loved all the animals . So much open space
h.
We popped by for my birthday not a planed day out. it’s was a lovely afternoon and really nice, we went in the week so wasn’t to busy but there where school trips taking place. We just walked the opposite way and enjoyed it at our own pace. Load of places to sit and chill with a picnic but the food on offer there was over priced and not grate, we just found a pub once we finished. Wheel chair friendly and lots of benches to sit down and rest if you need to, it took us about 3 hours to stole round and enjoy everything. the entry price was fair and parking was easy just a to minute walk to the entrance, parking you could pay contactless, card or cash no problems. If your older I would go mid week in school time to avoid a mad rush as some parts are small, but if you have kids then any time would be nice in the summer to make a day of it. Lots of kids things to do and keep them entertained same for big kids like me.
S. D.
a very nice day out. with the gardens being so pleasant you could quite easily spend the day here which woyld make the admission price better value but it still doesnt break the bank if its a quick visit. the restaurant could do with a bit of a refurb with tables and chairs looking worn and used. feeling ablittle more like a school canteen. The toilet facilities could have been cleaner, smelling worse than the rat enclosure.
S.
We had a lovely day and even though some bits were closed there was still plenty to see. We also did the rope challenge at zooropia and I would recommend trying that out too.
l. t.
Nice zoo! There is plenty of things to see indoor and outdoor, I went for 5 hours and I didn't have enough time to see it all. It's a nice place to spend a day and for a very decent price. Animals look well cared for and looked after.
C.
3 weeks ago. If you've been before going back is boring. The food/drink type van is very expensive there's no cappuccino. If its been raining theres not any appropriate spaces to sit. With blue badge you can park really close to the zoo. The shop is very expensive and has lots of the same things but in different colours. We didn't see and talks or demonstrations. The slush is amazing. Love the butterfly environment wish it was bigger.
A. A.
What a fantastic place to go for the day! This place has so much to see and do we were knackered come the end of it! Great place for families and couples etc. So many different animals and insects and aquatic life to see!
P. J.
A fantastic family day out. Well priced and you can get up close to many of the animals. Restaurant is also well priced, good selection and very nice. Well worth a trip and recommended to people of all ages.
E. A.
No Tigers or Elephants, but I'm happy with the overall experience I've had here, as it is meant to be a small zoo. There were a range of reptiles and aquatic animals, with some tropical animals managing in the cold UK climate as well. If you are in the Bristol area and have kids, this place is definitely worth a visit.
I've added some pics I took of the reptiles here:
L. M. &. T. T. M. N.
Amazing zoo :) not the biggest but I loved it. Plenty of lovely animals to see. I loved the butterflies. And the gorillas. Well worth a visit.
C. N.
Shutting down init. Restaurant is very expensive, bring your own food. But loved the monkeys and the live talks.
I. B.
Wonderful place and you get up close to the animals, most of the attractions have support staff to explain the animals in detail which is great. Really amazed at quality of food served in main restaurant. Excellent and cater for children. Will visit again 👍
R. M.
Well worth a visit. Very well planned and designed with lots of areas you can get up close with the animals. Nice variety of animals and creatures with well thought out ways to see and interact. The kids loved Gorilla Island but weren't too keen when in the Fruit Bat enclosure.
C.
Good little zoo in Bristol.
Best tip to get cheap tickets is to go there via bus and show them your bus tickets for discount on entry fee.
Lots of animals in small spaces, they designed it very nicely to give animals enough space while fitting in a lot of exhibits.
C. E.
Lovely zoo shame it is shutting
J. Z. (.
Great zoo in a busy city! Love lemur enclosure as you can get close and personal. And also feeding rainbow lorikeets was a highlight. Lions paced a lot in a relatively small enclosure though, would love to see them in a bigger space.
S. K.
Unfortunately, we arrived rather late on a rainy day. All the animals had retired to their dens and lairs and we saw very little. This is a rather small zoo and the primates that we did see looked unhappy. A clean and pretty place but rather sad for those who respect and love animals.
J. F.
Great zoo with lots to see. We spent a good 5 hours here with a stop in the play park. Highlights included the male lions, a nocturnal area, bugs, tree kangaroos and butterflies (in October).
s. a.
Really like Bristol zoo. Went for the Santa experience for our boys (their first) so it was nice to have a trip to the zoo as well.
It's a good zoo with plenty to see, even on a rainy day. Feels smaller than zoos like Paignton, but it is also flatter so easier to get around and has loads to see.
Santa was a we'll set up event, but that didn't stop my boys having a melt down - to be expected I suppose 😂 Santa handled it pretty well.
E. J.
A fantastic zoo with a vast area of different areas. The zip wire experience was great for my 10 year old daughter. Plenty of places to eat and drink and a lovely gift shop too.
M. R.
For some reason this just didnt feel like a traditional Zoo. Maybe its the lovely wide walkway, the clean paths or the way they manage to cater for families and couples in their own little ways. Like most Zoo's there is lots to see and discover but with this one you can get quite close to alit of animals. I particularly liked the glass viewing tunnels by the Penguins and seals. If the UK weather is good then this is a great day out for a couple or family.
C. O.
We had a lovely trip to Bristol Zoo. Zoo had some lovely spaces and animals seemed well looked after. Restaurant food was pricey and cold though so wish I'd brought a picnic.
h. b.
Good day out. Not sure the entrance fee is good value tho... Its a small zoo/park & it covers a bit of all the animal kingdom which raises the question is there enough space for these animals? On a recent trip to Africa we saw they dedicate entire reserves the size of the city just for some of the animals they have here! A new addition to the zoo is the Dinasour section which my lad loved and I thought was a bit lame...good family day out in the end!
G.
Absolutely loved the bat's! You can go right in.
It's a lovely place for a day trip, bats, red tree pandas, a twilight experience with night creatures, seals, penguins, a silver back gorilla named jock and his family and loads more.
(No elephants or giraffes however.)
There is a child's splash park, suitable from toddling to 12/14, an activity centre and information area with face painting. Dotted all round the park are drink and ice cream machines and a restaurant on site, also a gift shop with a wide range.
Very good bus service straight from temple meads Station to the zoo and back again, so convenient to get to. (I believe you get a reduced admission if you use public transport, check the website.)
Its cheaper on weekdays, but still not bad prices for a zoo.
G.
Great day seeing all the animals, café did nice food but shame there was no seating area inside as its closed off. Great section of animals to see the best was the seals!
Good one way system.
Few things still closed though which was a shame, But In all a great day out!
V. R.
Just a small zoo with 13 animals inc birds and ants. Not really a zoo. You get discount if you have reached zoo by bus.
L. M.
Inner city zoo, well maintained the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars was due to how many habitats were closed off, this should be specified on booking. Due to COVID you have to walk around a specific way aswell which felt quite controlling although this would just be them following guidelines
s. a.
Had an amazing experience as zookeeper for a day, very hands on, met some lovely people and incredible animals. You need a full day to walk around the whole zoo and experience everything it has to offer, good value for money and lots of choice of snacks and meals.
H. F.
Fabulous zoo, had a lovely afternoon....£3 on site all day parking, though the actual tickets were, I think, rather expensive for what's there (cheaper online, definitely worth checking for discounts etc, and using the refund for taking public transport, park n ride, bike etc, details on the main website). Take snacks and drinks with you, unless you're planning to pay a pretty hefty price tag! The animals were all healthy, bright, and in great condition...A real joy, and my Son loved it! Definitely going to go back when it's warmer, and to buy one of the 'experiences'!
P. L.
Great day out with my daughter. Even though the weather was miserable, we thoroughly enjoyed it. My 7 year old tried zooropia and it started really well but she hit a wall a third of the way around and got upset and distressed. Tom was AMAZING with her and can not say enough how great he was at making her feel at ease and by the end she was thoroughly enjoying it. Butterfly forest was lovely. We took our own lunch which I would recommend, as you can see from the menu it’s not cheap. All in all, would definitely recommend and will be returning.
N. P.
Love the size of this zoo. So easy to get around and so well kept. Lots of fantastic distractions for little kids. We loved the seal and penguin talk the best. Great little play park and lots of spots to have picnics.
D. C.
Great place one of the best zoo's iv been to all attractions well looked after and clean and you don't have to walk miles before you get to the next one. Staff all helpfull and friendly. Facilities are clean and tidy. Would of been 5 stars but the restaurant menu was a bit of a let down not much of a choice.
N. R.
Great day out today, no where near as busy as I was expecting either.
Walked straight in this morning and have almost done everything, just the seal feeding to go.
Brought our own pack lunch and it's been real nice just ralaxing in the gardens.
A. A.
Bristol Zoo is a lovely city centre zoo but is missing something. It's hard to put my finger on it but I always leave feeling disappointed.
It's well priced and lots too see, the kids always have a great time but I have to say better zoos are out there.
M. N.
Lovely small zoo. Spent about 4 hours here. They have great open enclosures which are great for viewing the animals. Good food in the main resteraunt as well.
A. C.
The whole family enjoy visiting Bristol zoo and it’s got lots of activities and things to see and do. I personally like the fact they have lots of outdoor seating places for bring your own picnics to keep the cost down. Also the adventure playground is central and allows older kids to explore while the parents can supervise younger ones while having a chat. The high ropes are fun and take kids from 5 up.
J. T.
I really enjoyed the trip there. I felt like I relived my childhood. I wish I had more time to visit all the animals in the zoo. I spent about 3 to 4 hours and it wasn't enough.
Z. W.
Did the sunset special. The que was massive considering it was online bookings only. But we got in after 15 minutes waiting. Had to park on the streets as all the parking was taken.
The zoo was rather small and we completed it and went back to the parts which were busy in just over an hour.
Not a lot of the animals were out, but the ones which were out looked lovely.
Definitely worth a visit.
B. S.
What a fantastic day out for all the family. Loved seeing all the different animals, there's a play area for the kids and a zip wire. Cafe is lovely. Great day outside!
A. S.
Small, but very enjoyable Zoo. A lot of activities for kids in all seasons. Friendly staff. Membership is worth any penny especially if you have a family and want to pop in only for 2-3 hours at time. You can get discounts at other partner Zoos, too. Food is still pricey on site, but new cafe is a step in a good direction. It can get really busy and crowded at peak times and parking is often full.
K. R.
Brilliant day out, be sad to see it close its doors specially as the safari park isn't easily accessible if you don't have a car
P. L.
Great zoo, well managed in the current circumstances with covid restrictions.
K. K.
An average zoo, expensive entrance fee for a family, limited parking at the zoo, you have to park in side streets & download app to pay for street parking.
A. P.
Good zoo with lots too see, just wish the map was better as it's quite hard to navigate.
I. A.
Lots of different animals to see, great day out for the whole family. The only thing I would advise is that you take a packed lunch. There is one restaurant there and it is quite expensive. Other than that, a beautiful place and a good cheap day out.
Z. S.
Well maintained, clean and pleasant place for a family day out. Due to the situation with the virus the playground and children's center were closed ( some parts of the zoo are also closed), however there is still a lot to see.
Note that you have to pay £4.50 for the parking ( we didn't know), so consider that when planning.
A. B.
Not a big zoo but family friendly nice garden for a walk
M. H.
I understand it's closing ,it's a little run down I get that , I don't think it's right I should have to clean my own table in the cafe ,while 2 staff just stand there doing nothing , and it wasn't busy and on a Monday so no excuses ,the food was nice fair play ,but please make a little effort it doesn't cost money , I hate moaning about something I've loved going to for decades , what was nice the young girl talking about the Lions brought people into the experience ,it holds them longer at the exhibit too ,people don't like reading plaques anymore and just move on quickly ,more of that would be nice ,kids asking questions getting involved so nice , seemed plenty of staff to do it ,
J.
Had a great day. Still plenty to see though some animals aren't available for the public to see. Didn't see anything of the gorillas though.
T. H.
Ice cream and cake and pizza and chips drink and cookie toys and sweet and book and hat and staff friendly and helpful
J. H.
A great Zoo with far more than you'd expect. Such a shame it is to close 3rd September 2022. Will definitely miss it.
G. M.
Maintaining social distancing guidelines and adhering to all rules! Lovely day out for families and children. Beautiful.
B.
This is a small zoo with a good range animals to see. Lions, gorillas, penguins and lemurs to name a few.
There are lots of places to get food and drink, and because it is a relatively small zoo, it's easy to get around. It does feel bigger inside than you might think when on the inside!
Parking can be an issue, the main car park fills up quick if you don't arrive early, and surround streets are difficult to park on during busy periods too.
They keep some other larger animals at a different site a few miles away at a different venue, giraffes, hyppo and elephants for example, so you won't see those at the zoo.
All in all, it's worth a visit, but I would recommend not at peak times unless you are first there!
I. T.
The sheer variety if not only the animals but how you get to interact with them makes the whole experience excellent. There are restaurants, vending machines and shops inside, although quite expensive so bring your own food.
The entrance for Students is £15 and £20 for adults, not sure about children.
My favourite part was definately the seals and you get to see them underwater in their system of tunnels.
G. 0.
I loved the zoo. it was amazing! there were loads of animals and plants to look at. The gardens were very interesting.
They have loads of talks about the animals and I enjoyed it greatly ! I highly recommend it. However the toilets needing more cleaning. Also the lion didn't come out so I was quite sad.
R. M.
Access too see all animals and very nice environment. Kids had loads of fun. Easy to find, car park next to it.
J.
My 3.5 year old and I absolutely loved this place. So many wonderful animals, so playful and obviously well cared for. Good facilities.
R. S.
Had an amazing time and all the animals are so cute and well looked after.
If I had one ask, it would be that more of the enclosures had personalised name plaques and facts about the individual like the seal enclosure has.
D. T.
Fantastic zoo full of character, loads of animals and beautiful gardens.
Great location next to Clifton village easily accessed by bus number 8 & 9.
Would like to visit again in the summer as some of the exhibits are not full open during the winter season.
l. C.
Great place to visit 😀
M. N.
Loved it, a lot there, nice and compact for little ones so less walking needed. So nice to get so close to the animals, closer than some other zoo's.
K. I.
If you can get one last visit in before they close, definitely do, it's always worth it
S. C.
Really popular zoo.... Seemed busier than before covid... But for the zoo that's a good thing 👍🏾😊
D. A.
Absolutely fantastic. We'll layed out, animals kept humanly. Food in the restaurant was fantastic and very well priced. Definitely a must see 😊
B. P.
Lots of lovely animals and exhibits to walk around very interactive
P. H.
Always nice to visit Bristol Zoo. Looking forward to its new home at the Wild Place in 2024
S. C.
Amazing place. Small and cozy, but the animals don't look distressed or unhappy so a lovely place for kids and adults alike. The restaurant is really good and covid safe, but maybe a little pricey, but on the whole, allowing for this makes for an excellent day out. (The average time spent in the zoo is apparently 2/3 hrs, but with a play area for kids and the restaurant, we were there much longer 😊👍)
S. I.
Lovely full day out, suitable for any age. The animals appear to be well cared for, and there was lots to see. The information about all the animals was good too. You can get money off entry tickets if you get there via public transport, and there's a bus that goes there directly from the train station
K. G.
A lovely zoo. Visit before it closes in September. It is just the right size for small children.
C. H.
We had a great family day out at Bristol Zoo last month, the staff were really knowledgeable approachable and it made for it overall really good atmosphere. we've been a few years before and nothing seems tired anymore dated it's been kept tidying updated for the most. I can see some of the lowest star ratings for this zoo and they're all based around a personal opinion about the concept of Zoo's rather than the facilities themselves. we would definitely go there again and it was also nice to see a lot of young people that were on some sort of programme or apprenticeship of the zoo been guided around by permanent members of staff. if you don't like the Jews don't go to zoos if you like zoos go to Bristol Zoo.
J. S.
Very tired, animals looked quite depressed. Not a massive amount of different animals. All food outlets would not accept cash only card payments.
D. I.
It used to be much cleaner 2 years ago. Many of the attractions are closed now

A great place to spend your free time. Just a pity the butterfly house was closed

Nice city zoo, animals were well looked after. Seemed a little small to other out of town zoos. Didn’t take long to go round 2-3 hours
H. T.
Beautiful laid out gardens well kept Happy animals

-Clean
-A variety of things to do and see
-Smaller then I thought
-Daily talks were good
-Water fountains around the Zoo
-Nice gift shop (plenty of educational items for kids and adults)
-Would be great if they had an Australian area 🇦🇺
N. N.
Very safe during these times. Still plenty to see despite areas being closed.

We where very impressed how they have focused on the rare, unusual and endangered animals and opting for mainly smaller animals to give the animals here space. Certainly a lot of animals here that I had never heard of before let alone seen
B. C.
Every part of it was amazing. Felt so relaxed after it. The feeding of the animals is a great experience. Would definitely visit again
D. E.
A magical place that inspires generation after generation to the world beyond our own lives. A great day out for any family and a great, well run zoo with some fantastic projects all over the globe.

Amazing Zoo, lots of different animals to see. Excellent one way system put in place with covid-19. Good social distancing measures put in place. Staff are friendly reminding people to social distance. All in all excellent day out with the family.

Visiting the zoo for nostalgia so glad to see zoo has moved forward on animal care now they come first, dreaded covid loss of other restaurant but given zoo a empty safe feeling environment ,still a very enjoyable visit. I will now have nice memories of incredible underwater walks etc seeing sea lions and penguins swimming from below, helping wipe away how animals were treated in the 50s 60s wishing the zoo success in its future.

Fantastic day out on a cold October's day.
Quite a small, compact zoo, my second time coming over to here. Parking is and extra charge, 2-3£ I think.
Short walk then to the entrance.
As it was half term they were offering free children's entry with a paying adult.
My children are aged 5 and 7 so a great age to enjoy and explore.
It was a very cold day so darted in and out of the various indoor enclosures such as the reptile and nocturnal area.
The children and I then tried the high ropes. Around 20ft off the floor (extra charge of £7.50). They managed to complete the course but we're very unsure. But the staff on the attraction were fantastic in helping.
Lunch was less wonderful. As it was cold a picnic was not the preferred option, the onsite sit in restaurant 'the hide' was extremely full with a deceptive queue out the door and curling round inside the actual restaurant.
Elected to go for a kids box meal and a pasty from the Hut outdoors. Still a 20 minute queue.
Aside from this a great day had by all. Free entry for the children, the whole Park decked out for haloween and different shows on to keep returning customers trying new things.
My favourite place of all is the butterfly house, could stay in there for house watching these majestic beauties flutter.
Definitely worth visit, easy to find when coming off m4/ m49.
Maybe bring a packed lunch

Fantastic zoo especially for young kids! There's some areas that are from the 60s and need updating but can't wait to see what it's like when they move to the wild place!
D. W.
Animals all look really well looked after. The staff are very friendly and full of knowledge. The work the conservation work the zoo is doing is fantastic! Well worth a visit!

Rather marvellous. One of Bristol's gems. I remember back in the 1960s when there were mad polar bears! Now an oasis of nature. The animals seem content. So much to do and see. Reasonable prices to get in. Lot of parking nearby and even more a short walk away. Perfect for anybody to spend hours watching nature.
T. F.
Nice place to take the family, plenty of things to do for the kids and adults alike. Restaurant took a little longer than I'd like but the food was excellent once it arrived.
B. C. M.
Lovely little zoo!!! Staff were so polite and the environment was beautiful.
M. W.
Not so many big animals - eg: giraffe & elephant - but plenty to see.
Also a cafe, the obligatory gift shop, disabled facilities, talks/feeding times, and information points.
K.
Love zoo's sand decided to go to Bristol evening event which opens its doors after 6:30pm. The zoo was a lot quieter than the day but most of the animals were asleep (bless them)
V. D.
Really lovely place where to spend a day with the family. My little one really enjoyed it.💓
С. К.
The coziest place to enjoy animals, nature and your free time!
J. H.
Grandchildren loved it lots to see and do lovely day
G. N.
This place has a lot of happy memories for me, from birthday trips as a kid to 33 year old me wandering around now! It makes me sad to think this won't be here much longer, but it makes perfect sense and completely the right thing to do.
Having said that, if you get the chance to go, please do! I'll be making a few more trips in 2022.
R. P.
Lovely place spent a lot of time helpful and friendly staff a lot to see will be back again
R. P.
Really good zoo, did an animal "meet & greet" allowing us to see the Lemurs up close and feed them. Very friendly staff. Ian (Our guide) was very friendly and knowledgeable, he explained a lot about the Lemurs. I recommend doing an animal experience if you get a chance as you learn a lot about a species. Great day out!
T. A.
Great day out - fun for the family and couples alike. Food is quite expensive though. Good price to get in and great initiative to get a third off when arriving by a form of sustainable transport.
H. M.
We first came to Bristol zoo around 10 years ago and I didn't think that much of it the first time around brought my 8 year old recently and I have to say it was great loads of new exhibits and well worth the entry fee, my daughter really like the creepy crawlie talk and my favourite animals were the monkeys great day out and will be returning in the future.
T. S.
Excellent place to spend a few hours amongst all the creatures. Probably not the best time to visit on a cold December day as a lot of the animals were keeping warm in their shelters. Still worth a visit though.
J. E.
Lovely staff. Animals well looked after and in reasonable enclosures. Poor eating facilities and overpriced. Lovely little splash zone and plenty of extra areas for play. Good discount if arrive by bus, on foot or bike. Exit through large ship, annoying. Plenty to fill a day. Could do with more coffee stalls. Clean and non smoking.
D. R.
Great little place! Parking was hard work, loads of great animals. Family of 4 was £30 so not bad.
Would go back!
E. F.
Lovely zoo, I had a great time here. They are very COVID secure with a one way system throughout.
D. B.
The animals in Bristol Zoo were fantastic and we enjoyed seeing them all. The only downside to Bristol Zoo was the overall feel of the place, it seemed run down. It's a shame to take that feeling away after enjoying seeing the animals.
J. A.
Feels like half of the animals are already gone, wild place has alot more to offer now but worth the visit to keep the place going until it closes.
j. b.
Great zoo with important conservation initiatives
H. K.
Enjoyed with kids, pack food as the cafeteria was super busy
S. G.
Lovely zoo and it's not to big. Thank you
F. R.
One of Bristol's Jewels! Many thanks to all of the staff who lovenly cared for the wonderful creatures that enlighten the generations in the west country and beyond for decades.
I've been coming here since the 60s, and feel that we are losing a bit of Paradise on our doorstep!
You come through those gates into the most wonderful gardens and lawns, the perfect place for a picnic.
Enjoy it while you can this summer as next year it will be sadly an incomperable memory for me and many of my fellow Bristolians!
a. b.
Great place for the family, plenty of different animals and species to see, play areas for the kids, food is pricey but apart from that a very enjoyable day out
H. C.
We went in the summer and had a great day. It’s a very relaxing place and I think is good value for money for what you get
S. B.
Great array of animals and some strong exhibits, particularly the red pandas! Long queue for the snack shack and some unclear direction which could be improved.
R. H.
Great family fun

Had a lovely day. So well directed!!! We didn't miss anything ❤️😊

Thought we would see Bristol zoo before it closes, worth a visit but don't go to the cafe 40£ for 1 saled 1soup and a pizza and 3 cokes not that appetising but the zoo was good.
G. M.
Beautiful Grounds and well kept animals. It's a great shame we're losing this wonderful Zoo due to financial reasons. The grounds are beautifully kept with wonderful flowers and plants and well maintained walkways. The old buildings/enclosures really give it a whimsical feel. The laughing thrush was one of my favourites, I could have spent all day chatting with them.
S. N.
Bristol Zoo was in the top 3 zoos we've ever visited. It was such a beautiful space - without including the animals it was just a beautiful well kept place.
Evrty enclosure was so well thought out and kept in great condition. Such a wonderful environment for the animals to be well cared. We had lunch at the restaurant, the menu was very limited which was very hard due to have an allergy that was catered for - but I could have taken a pack lunch so that was on myself more then anything. The staff were all very kind and the restaurant was so clean!
All in all a very wonderful zoo and we will definitely travel up again for another trip!

Decided to take advantage of Bristol Zoo Twilight Event on a Friday evening along with what seemed like half of Bristol.
This may be some things to make the trustees of Bristol Zoo think further about their pricing plan. surely if the pricing was a little lower than more people would attend and with the opportunity for them to spend whilst at the zoo the revenue would surely be greater per head than their currently Getting maybe this is something to try in the future I'm not saying to do it for £5 but maybe £10 or £12 for an adult rather than the current £22. Also I think that concessions pricing could be saving more than just £1 and allow the child free vouchers with concessions as often grandparents, student family or the unemployed may take children and the higher prices I know are putting off lots from coming.
S. M.
Zoo was nice. Cold for some animals this time of year tho. Nice for an activity in the day when you visit.
L. C.
Loved our day at Bristol Zoo and felt very safe with the one way system in place.
G.
Zoo gardens were nice as well as the smaller attractions and exhibits. Zoo a little small overall but all the animals looked well cared for. Parking was a night mare, We booked online for a time slot only to be told that there was no parking and we would have to try side streets or multi story, something to consider when booking a trip to this zoo.
g. j.
We got married here and the venue which will sadly close in Sept 22 is brilliant. A great day was had by all
C. H.
Visited today and had a great time regardless of the weather (soggy, it was raining) theres a lot to see and some inside so you can shelter from the rain.
L. G.
My grandson and I had a lovely day it was cold but sunny not too crowded so able to see everything. Staff very polite and helpful
R. G.
Good zoo! Definitely worth the trip.

I have been twice in 2 years:
Location: quite heavy traffic to get there, but nice location.
Price: quite pricey, even for students. £17.50
Experience: overall it was a great day out both times! Me and my boyfriend (20 and 21) really enjoyed it. It was so fun, engaging and the talks on the animals were really useful!
Food/restaurant: appalling food both times we've been. We ordered pasta last year and it came out hard in both dishes, so we complained. They did get us fresh ones straight away but it was completely hard again. Pasta is a staple food... definitely shouldn't be hard to do. The second time we went the menu had completely changed... new chef maybe? The food was okay. Quite sickly and over priced for me.
Size: medium sized, good selection of animals though
Parking: limited in street parking plus a small zoo car park.

Oldest Zoo of its kind in the world....
Place looks a bit tired and some large animals in small cages !
Its closing with the next yr or so
S. M.
Good array of animals, nice enclosures, loads of guides and talks. Lovely clean site, helpful staff, but a bit expensive and parking can be tough. Great day out!
J. D.
A good way to kill a few hours, plenty to see and plenty of animals
S. S.
Great day out, reasonable price and lovely volunteers.
D. R.
Very interesting talk at the lion enclosure. Lovely day out, the kids and grown ups all really enjoyed it. Thanks!
S. W.
Lovely zoo for a great family day out. Food in the restaurant was good but queues to get in was ridiculous. A good variety of animals to see. Also for EV car owners there is a 7kw charger in car park.
C. R.
Over the last year we've visited and rated almost every zoo in the country. There's a reason why we've been to Bristol 3 times. Firstly it's under 2 hours away, secondly it's not that expensive and finally the gorilla exhibit is superb! We discussed it as a family this week and we think the only improvement would be the birds. More training for the lorikeets and adding some macaws
J. &. D. M.
Always a great day at the Bristol Zoo. Fantastic to see all to animals bustling in the early spring.
A little bit disappointed that the Resta has changed to emulate the Nando's experience.
A. I.
Wicked day out lots to see and do will visit again
