Reviews of Rice & Things
L. M.
The best Jamaican food in town! Honestly their goat curry is so good! Big portion too, felt like my mother packed dinner for me :) I would definitely come back again and again!
I gave four stars because of their polystyrene food packaging. I will upgrade to 5 stars when they change this.
S.
Hands down best jerk chicken I've tasted in Bristol. Was lucky to have been able to order all the items we wanted from the menu as they do run out quite quickly depending on the demand for that day. The here chicken was so saucy and loved the festivals regretted only ordering such a limited amount. Can't wait to come back again!
P. M.
Delicious! I had chicken w rice, dumplings and the slaw is the best I've ever had. Portions are huge. V good value. Bless up!
Y. E.
Amazing staff and the manager is awesome. Chef is the best. Always friendly and hospitable
M. H.
By far the best Caribbean restaurant in Bristol, we always order buffet for the office as we all love how full of flavour the food is and the portions are always worth the price and their vegan options are fantastic!
H. C.
I’m from London but honestly this is now one of my top 5 jerk chickens I’ve had in my life!
S. E.
Hands down best Caribbean takeaway in Bristol I've tried. I could just eat rice and peas and be happy mate, seriously bangin food, service can be a bit hit and miss sometimes but trust me, it's worth it for the food.
T. A. (.
Massive portion sizes, delicious food. Best Carribean food in Bristol. Can't go wrong!
C. K.
I was visiting a friend in the area and they highly recommended I tried their Goat curry, I was not disappointed at all & in hindsight should have ordered another to take home with me!
I will not make that same mistake twice, this place is on my list to visit anytime i am in the area and have considered doing the 150 mile round trip just for the Goat curry!
I tried a little of my friends order which was brown stew chicken, again, i was impressed!
P. C.
Insane Jerk. So juicy, fell straight off the bone. Great portions and lovely staff. Worth the wait for sureee
V. O.
Food was perfect, had stewed chicken with rice an peas. Service can be slow at busy periods. friendly service we waited 20 mins to be told no more curry goat. Which was a little disappointing but still really enjoyed the stewed chicken would highly recommend and will go again. Prices are average for this kinda of place. Also soul food can't be rushed which I except that's why I'd still rate give stars.
K. P.
Been driving past this place for on a weekend for ages and the BBQ smell has always made me hungry!
Finally got a chance to stop by on Saturday and there was no disappointment.
The lady that served me was lovely. I was potentially going to over order, and she pointed out that most of what I wanted was available in one dish.
Once the food way ready we took it home. It was well wrapped as to avoid spillages. Greatly appreciated!
The food itself was still hot when we got home and the flavours were amazing! We had the jerk chicken and the fried chicken. Both were extremely tasty with lots of flavour! The chicken was cooked really well, crispy on the outside but not dry on the inside. I don’t know much about Jamaican flavours… but the flavours were really tasty. Even the rice and veg were full of flavour (probably soaked in from the chicken 😍).
The price was very reasonable. We both got a full meal that would have sorted us for dinner, for £9 each. This was lunch though, so we ended up keeping some for dinner.
We’ll definitely be back again!
S. A.
Love this place! The fried chicken is to die for the jerk chicken is nice. Definitely going back to try other things on the menu. The only issues are parking, no contactless payments & the items on the menu are subject to availability.
J. M.
I love this place; the food is delicious! It is a popular spot, so don't be disappointed if they run out of certain items on the menu
H. M.
The stew beef is utterly delicious - the best item on the menu. I have only been for the buffet service, which they do on the last Friday of every month. It’s a good opportunity to try a range of dishes, and excellent value for money. Cocktails are very strong, just how they should be!
E. D.
Stopped here for the first time while on a weekend trip to Bristol, hands down the best Jamaican food I've ever had, great portion sizes and flavour. So glad we found this place and will be back!
A.
Quick service and nice food. Only minor inconvenience is that I couldn’t order on the phone.
O.
I love the food but the service needs a better system! Big up you guys, your curry goat & portions were wild the first time we went. Second time, same flavour less portion, because I think food was running out, later in the day. I would prefer consistent service but loved the food both times regardless! Expect to wait a fair bit of time during busy periods
J. M.
Wow! Just wow! Took me back to the motherland with every mouthful, real authentic food cooked with love, God bless Chef and the staff for their hard work
R. B.
Delicious food that hits the spot every time - especially their saltfish and ackee and ox tail!
L. G.
I Rice and Ting was nice fresh and well served with quick service. I'll be back for sure the next time I'm in the area. Polite, not long to wait, nice tasting food. My friend Humphreys will be up for this.
s.
Been coming here for years probably the best authentic Jamaican food in the UK
D. H.
Probably the best jamaican food .Best jerk chicken hands down that's how they got there reputation. Most of the rest on the menu is very good.lose one star for slow service and never having full menu.still got to recommend because of taste and portion size.
R. B.
Food is so good that they run out of it so quickly, so you should go early if you want Oxtail or Curry goat as it goes really quickly.
Service is good considering how busy they are, with social distancing in place so only 2 customers at a time.
Portions are quite generous. For a couple of extra quid you'll get twice the amount of food compared to regular!
Overall really yummy food.
R. C.
Food quality is nice but very poor packaging, if food was served in nicer and compostable trays taste would have been way better. When you warm it up, it tastes plastic.
S. O.
Excellent food quality and fast takeaway service...worth the drive across Bristol for a takeaway alone.
A. G.
The ackee and saltfish wasn't up to standards but the rice was lush and the dumplings were out of this word
W. C.
Decent food. Reasonable service based on order, pay and collect when your order number appears on screen. If you are in Bristol, check them out.
S. G.
Excellent food. Street BBQ on Friday’s are great.
m. k.
Lovely bit of Baked Chicken , rice and dumpling
C. W.
Excellent, authentic Jamaican food. Relaxed setting
S. S.
Lush curry goat and jerk chicken great food!
N.
Tastes like home! As someone from the Caribbean, I can say that this food is 100% authentic and the best Caribbean food I've had in Bristol. So far I've had the stew chicken, jerk chicken, stew fish, Ital stew, always with a side of rice and beans and coleslaw. Everything is full of flavour and portions are very generous. The take out service is always quite quick and even when they're a busy you don't have to wait unreasonably long.
Y. T.
Food is good, but this the 3rd bad experience with take-away.
Today i ordered Large and received....a small!!!
Watch as well that your orders haven't been mixedup. Check it at their restaurant. Always.
The waiting is also crazy long!
R.
Revised review.
After a bad experience with a particular waitress I was invited in to speak to Chef to get the issue resolved.
Chef is a great man with great morals & cares a lot for his customers. Compensated me with 2 free meals (which I swapped for 4x soups instead.) regardless of my 1 bad experience it’s not down to Chef or the rest of the staff so I still highly recommend Rice & Things. Truly good food. Veggie chunks are amazing, really good brown stew chicken & soup is always really good!
S. S.
Rice & Things are the best Caribbean restaurant!! The food has such amazing flavour. I highly recommend this place. If you need any more tempting just walk by the smoked fired bbq fri, sat and sun morning and you will not be able to resist going in!!
T. G.
Absolutely loved the oxtail soup and the Goat Curry, 1st time at this restaurant after being highly recommended by a local. The flavours and the heat of the curry absolutely amazing! I had some ginger tea, made fresh in the kitchen! My wife had the Duppy cocktail and it’s on the money!!!😋. Will definitely become a regular here!
S. T.
Growing up around stokes croft going here was always a treat. Always loved to take it away and enjoy In the comfort in your own home!
The coleslaws is to dye for! Love the rice and peas!
Also love the jerk chicken, baked chicken, festivals and also plantain I love the spice of curry goat also!
B. G.
Original and still best Caribbean restaurant from 19 Longtime. Compliments to Chef.
A. H.
We where driving on the M4 back to London and wanted some Jamaican food. Googled Caribbean food and thought we dropped by Rice and things. We had the beef soup which was delicious could have done with more it was so good we also had the encovlish fish. Wow. Lovely lovely the tastiest fish I've had in a long time. Would defo recommend 😀😀
T. F. M. B.
Proper authentic food, love the goat curry, hits the spot every time!
O. W.
I had the jerk chicken and it was definitely a good choice. One of the best jerk chicken I have had. The staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable. Fairly quick service also even though they were busy. Would definitely eat here again. Too bad I don't live near here.
G. B.
Lovely bit of curry goat would've been 5stars but the quantity and quality of the meat let it down, had more bone and cartridge than meat unfortunately
a.
This is a lovely authentic Caribbean restaurant/takeaway. The chef takes it upon himself to make sure the highest level of service is given to each and every customer.
Highly recommended.
C. B.
been coming here every week and it's the best place in Stokes Croft by far! their food is consistently great so you always know what you're gonna get. The goat curry is amazing.
H.
First moved to the UK and it was hard to find anything that really tasted “like food” until I found rice and things, was a heaven sent. If you want a recommendation get the large fried chicken, with white rice, fried plantain and the hot chilli sauce trust me. I go there almost everyday and have my receipts to prove it.
C. A.
Hands down the best Caribbean eatery in Bristol. And easily one of the best I have tried in the entire country. The oxtail was beyond delicious, and the rice and peas tastes exactly as it should.. Real good homestyle, cooking prepared with care and passion. Thank you!!
a. w.
My favourite place in Bristol for food and atmosphere. You can tell a lot of love is put into the restaurant. The staff are wicked and you might even be lucky enough to meet Chef...
B. S.
My favourite in Bristol for caribbean food. Chilled vibe, food comes in solid portions and good taste. I had the best jerk chicken ever over there. Well worth!
D. M.
Rice & Things is a quaint and intimate restaurant that offers a Jamaican all u can eat buffet at the end of each month which I went to. The buffet was amazing and I would recommend trying every dish. I had a fantastic cocktail with the meal and the staff were very friendly with the DJ offering a selection of good vibes in the background. Next time I am in Bristol will definitely visit Rice & Things again.
C. S.
Best Jamaican restaurant food I have tasted in the UK. You can tell it's good food by how busy the takeaway section is. People of all nationality and race goes there. And staff is excellent.
K. C.
The food was really nice but when I got home I realised they missed an item which I'd paid for.
j. r.
Well it certainly was a happy birthday! Thank you so much for quite possibly the best take away we have had. Lush lush lush. Take an appetite and choose whatever makes you drool! It's all good.
A. R.
Just got back from Bristol this weekend and tried out the restaurant. Food hit the spot. (Beef Soup, Rice n Peas, Oxtail n Coleslaw) I also ordered a Jerk Chicken to take with me....because i could.
The staff are friendly and i would definitely go back

This really is the best Jamaican food around, curry goat to veggie chunks are amazing.

K. t.
Foods always 10/10 sumtimes u gotta wait but its not a MC Donalds and there are signs to make you aware. Always a smile with service
R. M.
One of the best Jerk chicken in Bristol in my opinion, great service too, I'm never disappointed.
T. W.
Good food but service is exceptionally slow. No sense of urgency, just a lazy Sunday afternoon. Will probably not give you all the items you paid for. Makr sure you check it's all there before you leave.
B. D.
The food tastes good.At the moment they don't take phone orders I was told so you have to go & order. Also its right on busy road, so if you want to park your car legally its not easy.I have visited the place on-off for over 10 yrs now.
C. K.
Started giving out poor amounts of fried chicken. Very disappointing. Bad enough that they don't cook enough in the first place and it runs out by 5pm on the weekends. Can't dispute how tasty it is though.
L. G.
Layout of the restaurant is a bit weird. And some of the staff are a bit dense but the food MORE than makes up for all that. The food is the best Caribbean food ive ever eaten (and i eat alot of it) It's authentic and the portions are massive and it's reasonably priced.
My only bug bare about the food is that they dont serve jamaican patties (strange) and on sundays they seem to have a very basic menu compared to the rest of the week. Ive moved from Bristol to Manchester now and am seriously considering drivng back down south to get my Rice n things fix one of these days!!!!
a.
Great food and customer service 👌
L.
I’ve been here twice and I can’t recommend it enough! Everyone is friendly and you definitely get what you pay for and the BBQ is great. If you’re thinking of trying it then go for it!

Best Caribbean food I've had. Jerk chicken is amazing.. cocktails are potent! Does take away or has a small restaurant .. delicious
l. w.
The best place in Bristol for chicken and rice. Was introduced by a friend and have been multiple times since. If only they delivered 🤣
A. J.
Ordered a takeaway here a few months back. The food was great, which is a shame as it took so long to be delivered! I'm not sure if they were overly busy or this is the norm, but a forewarning would have been great as we nearly starved waiting for the delivery.
s. k.
Friendly Jamaican customer service as always. Delicious food and service in one.
N. D. R.

(Translated) If you like beef stew, don't miss this place, the best I've had in Bristol and of the few Caribbean that serve it.
The goat curry, pepper steak or one of the Caribbean specials the ox tail (braised veal tail) all cooked with quality and a spectacular flavor. Also at a very good price, with the small portion a person eats well.
