Pretty good Japanese restaurant. The service was fast and the food was very good. Had to knock off one star as although the prices are what you'd expect to pay in a mid tier restaurant £20 per head), the decor simply does not match and the tables are arranged in a grid like school desks or some kind of canteen. You've really got to enjoy Japanese food to come here. I'll probably go again but dress down more next time.

WOW + WOW = WOWOW! Loved it! First visit last night (1310/21) and my wife and I loved it! The service was good, things were clean, including the toilets, the staff very engaging and helpful. The food was out of this world. We can't wait to go back and try some more dishes. A BIG 5 STARS!

Nice little Japanese restaurant in Colchester. Overall food is pretty decent. Tried some sushi and also the chicken katsu curry. Not quite 5 star because the curry was a bit fatty and luke warm but overall still very good. The sushi was great.

I would actually rate it 3.5 and all those marks are for the food. The food is good. Not perfect, some of the rolling can be a little sloppy, but acceptable and tastes good, like it should. The place is also okay. Not great, but decent enough and it’s a small place so they need to cram a little. The loss of 1.5 stars - which is perhaps a little harsh - is because they really need to work on their service. Things get brought out in the wrong order and sometimes they make silly mistakes. For example, tonight I had to remind them to bring drinks when one dish had already arrived and I had to get the soy dip bowls myself. I’ve been there many times - as I said, the food is good - and often there is misunderstanding of some sort. They are all quite young and I think that lack of maturity comes across. Always pleasant and nice, just a bit naive. Anyway. Worth going to and the best Japanese food in the area as far as I know so 3 is a bit harsh.

Just had lunch here today and it was amazing. The sushi is out of this world, and the chicken yakisoba was one of the best things I’ve eaten. Prices were reasonable, my wife and I ordered quite a lot between the two of us. The decoration is nice, speedy service and the waitress was really nice too. 10/10 from us.

Fantastic place, probably Colchester's best kept culinary secret. I had a delicious meal of sushi and a hot main course. Didn't have room for a desert! This place is pretty cozy so you may want to book ahead. I haven't met anyone who knows the place that hasn't loved it. My friend's mother-in-law is actually Japanese and said it's the best Japanese food she's ever had at a UK restaurant!

We love this restaurant and have been visiting since it first opened. But with 3 young kids we really don't get to eat out very often so when Aburi started doing delivery, hubby and I are over the moon. Yes, it's not the cheapest but Japanese food is often more expensive in this country. Nice generous portions and very authentic taste (I am oriental so I should know). If you eat in, the service is always very friendly and we have never had any problems with our deliveries either. Highly recommend this place 💕

This is probably the best sushi I have tried, let’s be clear, I am not a sushi lover, but my partner loves it so we decided to order some sushi. Obviously due to the covid-19 they do just takeaway and delivery services, however the staff in there is really welcoming, nice and polite. As I mentioned, I usually don’t eat sushi, so it is quite hard to impress me with sushi, but I would say a big shout out to this restaurant. The takeaway tray was really good quality, not that cheap plastic disposable trays, the food was really well presented and let me tell you something: I was fighting with my partner for the last sushi roll. The price, I feel, are understandable for the quality. Definitely recommend. Thumbs up for you guys!.

Small Japanese restaurant not far from the town centre. Internal decoration was ok but we sat by what would have been the window display area when it was a shop and there was a cold draft. Nice waitress but with limited English. The table was clean and chop sticks were supplied as standard. Good mix of sushi and noodles available. The food we had was pleasant if not stunning and the bill came to £24 for my son and me. That included one beer and a pot of tea. My son says the toilets were very basic. Overall an acceptable if not brilliant lunch. They deliver but I would say that the place is not that wheelchair friendly, although i am sure they would try to accommodate you.

I love this place. Best Japanese food anywhere in Colchester. It all tastes so fresh and lovely. I've been going since they opened and I've never been disappointed. Their Soft Shelled Crab is particularly recommended. In fact I'd put everything on the menu as particularly recommended. Staff very friendly, helpful and welcoming. If I was going to quibble I'd like them to sort out their wine. Red wine straight from the fridge is not my favourite. But Aburi's is still a 5 star restaurant and worth everyone of them.

Our favourite sushi place. The food is gorgeous and the location is wholesome. It's not pompous, it's nice and inviting and the staff are so lovely and smiley. Honestly cannot wait to go back. You can even see the chefs make the sushi which is such a reassuring eating experience. Love it.

Just had a really lovely dinner and it was so tasty I even forgot to take picture of my main (salmon and avocado don). Very flavoursome, definitely recommend. The aubergine starter with miso tates great too. Chicken gyoza was nice and crispy and my other half loved his fried soft shell crab as a starter.

Mid-range prices; not too dear but not cheap either: about £40 for a filling meal for two (a platter of sushi to start followed by a bowl of noodles each for mains plus drinks, for example). The food is delicious and presented nicely.

First visit with my slightly sceptical parents, but they were converted. The staff were very friendly and gave us lots of recommendations based upon what my parents like to eat, and the food was out of this world. I had planned to take some leftovers home but didn't leave any as it was so tasty! The teriyaki salmon is the best I've ever had!

So i have been here twice as of now. The first time was excellent, service was greater than i expected and the price was much lower than i was expecting. The quality of the food was better than expected, the quality of service was entertaining and non invasive and even introduced some fun when it came to mochi, using ornate dishes which looked theatrical and ceremented our overall experience. Admittingly we didnt spend much money the first time round, so i was determined to return with more of an appetite. Sadly todays experience wasn't as great as the first. We orderd much more food this time on account of our friends birthday. The quality of the food was on par of the first, so excellent quality, despite an exception. The only issue i had today was the service. They were not as responsive and they mixed up our order and said they were unable to correct it. Not a big deal in itself but again it was not what we orderd. Then the unprompted removal of unfinished dishes was unexpected.(my bowl of ramen wasn't finished before they removed it) When it came to our last order of mochi one of us three finished first and his dish was removed before we all finished together. This to myself seemed insulting as we were all enjoying our time before our space was "Invaded" and was overall left with a bitter taste of todays experience. So in conclusion: There is massive potential in this restaurant and i hope it will continue to impress. I do however recomended some service training for the lesser experienced staff. Overall a 3/5. Good potential, Great food, Lacking in consistency, Okay Service, Brilliant Venue.

What's not to love about delicious Japanese food?? A girl enjoys a huge wide range of food, covering many different countries, cultures & omg it's like a taste discovery. I can't eat anything spicy though & I do miss out on some wonderful dishes due to this but where I can I ask for a less spicier dish. Japanese food is simply wonderful. Aburi offer a nice range of various dishes from starters to mains, to sides & desserts. Prawn gyoza, spiced tuna & anything with salmon & yep you've got me salivating!! Eat in their very stylish restaurant or enjoy a takeaway at home. Either way I DO highly recommend you try this place. Hope you have fun. A girl who loves knows how to enjoy herself. This might be one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! My partner and I came to Aburi for the first time yesterday (Sunday 08/02/2022), and it certainly won’t be the last, as we both loved it! The atmosphere is warm, cosy, with an authentic feel to it, and it doesn’t feel overcrowded even with multiple groups in the room. The food is absolutely gorgeous! We had kimchi, salmon sashimi, ebi tempura (prawns), spicy tuna maki, lion king maki, yakitori chicken skewers and a tonkatsu bento (breaded pork). We also ordered a salmon teriyaki bento to take away as we loved the food so much! We highly recommend the lion king, tonkatsu and sashimi! Our waitress was very nice, which made the overall experience even better, and we had the pleasure to speak to the chef who came to our table to ask how we were finding the food. Cannot recommend enough!

Most flavoursome meal I have had in a long time. Just had seafood yakisoba with Eli Tempura Maki and Red Tiger with my partner having the vegetable yakisoba and was absolutely blown away! Great Meal, Great Service, Great Atmosphere The food here is of excellent quality, and the prices are fair, for what's on offer. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and unfailingly friendly. The restaurant decor is fairly plain, yet charming. Pro-Tip: Make sure the waitress understands your order, since the Samurai behind the Sushi Counter won't change the order if you send it back as wrong. Nevertheless... I'll be coming back here.

Wow. Been to several resturants for sushi and this tops them! The spider rolls are so tasty and all sushi are presented well in a lovely wooden bridge platter. Amazing food, its my favourite restaurant, and no other Japanese restaurants ive been to can even compare, the prices are fair, sushi is top quality, and the place is great for dates/group meals. If youre new to the restaurant, order a bento box which is about £10 and gives you a variation of food to try. Never had a bad experience.

I’m a big fan of Japanese food but it can be hit and miss in the U.K. Aburi is most definitely a hit. Big menu, decent prices and lots of flavour. I had the King Dragon Maki and the Aburi Roll - both were very different and both superb. I also had a portion of the Chicken Yakitori which melted in the mouth 😊 Very friendly and polite service and the food came out quickly which was great as I was super hungry.

Greeted by 'irashaimasse' so immediately felt I'd walked into someplace in Japan! The staff it seemed were Chinese and the music they were playing was Asian pop, not Japanese but these are minor details. The important thing is the food and drink which were absolutely delicious, fresh and perfectly prepared to every detail. A washcloth before the meal would've made this even more authentic but since I really miss this aspect when away from Japan I tend to carry my own wipes anyway. Can highly recommend Aburi, will definitely be back!

Basically long version cut short i wish this restaurant was in my home town... its a gem hidden in Colchester and a must visit place... beats your run of the mill Yo Sushi .

lovely little place; I nipped in there for lunch and had a teryaki chicken and salmon bento box which was delicious, and the deep fried squid which was honestly the best I've ever tasted. Fast service too and a nice quiet location makes it a relaxing but interesting place to be. My only comment would be that I wished I had a spoon- the last morsels of rice soaked in the delicious sauce from the salmon and chicken was tricky to pick up with chopsticks even though I don't usually have trouble. I don't know what is traditional for japanese dining, but with chinese its usual to pick the whole bowl up and sort of shovel it into your mouth, hard to do with those lovely lacquered bento boxes!

The food is really outstanding, and for the price is very impressive. but the customer service is such a let down! i'd eat here all the time but the waitresses are very awkward and have difficulty understanding me, and i speak quite clearly. for instance, the first time i went, i ordered 2 bento... they bought 1 so my partner had to wait another 10 minutes for hers to come out.... by then mine was cold. second time, i ordered a side dish with my main. after finishing my main and then waiting for some time, i enquired as to whether my side was coming, they said the waitress had forgotten to write it down, so i said dont worry about it, cancel that side dish, could we just have to bill please (i was full after the main anyway)... side dish was on the bill??? had to convince the lady that there was a mistake.... Shame because the foods presentation and taste is very good. not just the sushi btw, most of the dishes i have tried there are great, but the customer service makes the experience such a let down :(
