This is the go to place for the best indian food in Derby. My mum will probably be upset for me saying this, but this restaurant serves the most authentic Indian home style food that Derby has been lacking for many years. The ambience, the decor, the service and the food are amazing. Great service combined with the best quality and tasty Indian food makes for an amazing night. Absolutely out of this world.

An amazing dining experience for everyone; whether you go on your own, as a couple or a family, you will definitely be wowed! The food is one of the best I have had and coming from a family restaurant background since the early 80s, trust me I know what I'm talking about. The food aside, the service is 5 star and don't even start me on their desserts which are freshly made and taste great... you can't beat that, 3 visits so far and I will be back for more.

Great evening at Tarka! Great venue, classy, modern decor, cool selfie walls. The serving staff were really friendly and attentive; offering advice and information on the menu when we asked. The food was excellent. I would recommend the sharing starter platter, the meat was cooked beautifully. The puddings were absolutely delicious, the cookie dough was made freshly to order, melt in your mouth.

Best food we've had in a very very long time and im not just talking about derby...i can't recommend this place highly enough. Every thing was of the highest standard from friendly and professional staff, complimentary papadoom and pickles (hence why we couldn't find them on the menu 😂) and that first bite of that starter (meat platers for 2) 😋😍 and such generous portions too. No wonder when viceroy and shalima gold were empty these guys were turning away customers because they were fully booked so if you're thinking of going there on weekends or bank hol then I'd recommend you book first.

The owner managed to organise a table for me and my mate even though they were fully booked. We had the Iftar Buffet which consisted of Kebabs, Samosa, Pakoray, Chips, Chicken Tikka, Biryani, Dhaal, Meat Curry, Chicken Curry, Veg Curry, Naan and the list goes on. Food was very tasty and freshly cooked. I really enjoyed every item. The restaurant decor is very nice and they have a prayer room for men and women. I will be back soon to try other menu items.

Absolutely loved this place. Went there for my friend's birthday dinner and Team Tarka made sure we had an amazing evening. The one item I'd be going back for is the 'Papdi chaat'. Food was absolutely amazing full of flavour and portions were big. The mix grill is highly recommended, there are different types of meat on the mix grill. The nans were nice and soft and the curries were cooked to a high standard. The drinks selection was good with loads of options available and the deserts which are made fresh were very nice. What a wonderful evening we had at Tarka. Food was wonderful, atmosphere and decor are excellent. The staff was very friendly and took care of us by asking if everything was fine. One waiter in particular was so hard working and very very friendly. I asked his name as I wanted to especially mention his name on the review. Mizan, you truly are a gentleman with caring and friendly approach. Thank you for looking after us. We noticed how he was on top of everything. From making sure the buffet food was kept hot to making sure all the customers were looked after. True asset to the restaurant.

Whole experience excellent. I absolutely loved it. The food was reasonably priced. The menu was not overwhelming with too many dishes to choose from. But there was a great selection and all food was delicious, excellent value and presented beautifully. Best of all was the outstanding service we required. Had the most attentive host, Shiraz, who made our experience memorable. We was a large party, nothing was too much trouble, complimentary dishes for the small children, suprise birthday cake for the birthday girl. Just an all round very pleasurable experience. Will definitely return and will be the first place I'd recommend.

Visited here yesterday for my birthday with my family, kids included. 16 of us. The service from start to finish was 10/10, very attentive. They even brought complimentary food out - mild chicken, chips and salad for the young girls which was thoughtful. The food was very tasty and flavoursome. And the deserts were a win. They took pictures for us in there selfie area and in other spots. Beautiful decor and picture worthy. To top it off the staff all brought me a desert out with a big sparkler and had written Happy birthday from Tarka on it whilst singing a happy birthday too. Thank you for making my birthday special.

Was surprised with a birthday meal at this restaurant. Had never been before and can honestly say it is one of the best places I have eaten at. From the service to the food everything was perfect. The waiters were great, Shiraz in particular was very helpful. The lamb Karahi was special. Definitely a place to try if your near derby!

We went to Alton Towers and as usual my family and I wanted to make a night of it. Long day, Hungry! 1 Hungry man, Mrs and 4 kids! Called the restaurant up, friendly conversation and they managed to book us a table for 9.30 without any hesitation, as easy as that. Arrived was seated within 5mins into a family booth. Mij and Amaan took care of us. Turned off the AC without us asking so food doesn't get cold. Starters came on time. Main courses 1/2kg Lamb Karahi, Chicken Jelfrazi, Butter Naan and Mij gave us Complimentary Daal. Hot plates provided so food didn't go cold and the portion sizes of the mains are amazing compared to London! During our time, Mij, Amaan and the staff kept checking on us to see if we needed anything and made it a very enjoyable atmosphere for the kids and us. Alhumdulilah lovely experience and to top it off sorted the kids with ice creams and a Mrs with a milkshake. Wish we could have this service in London but truly they welcomed us and made us feel at ease even though we were tourists! They have a downstairs and upstairs, plenty of seating. Amazing bathrooms and decor. Also to top it off a Prayer room if you would like to offer your prayers. May Allah Azzawajal put Barakah(blessings) in their lives and business and give them the best in this world and the next Ameen! Definitely be dropping by next time and already recommended it to my friends and family. Well worth it and affordable. Keep up the good work guys, wish I took pics of the food and deco!

A group of friends and I went to this place last night for a works do. The food and service was impeccable, the menu was plentiful for both meat eaters and veggies alike. A buffet was on offer too, although I am not sure if that is a regular occurrence or in place for Ramadan as suggested by the website. All in all a great experience for a good price. Amazing food!! Absolutely loved the badshahi platter. We went as a work meal, all staff from Keystone and we all thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service by the lovely front end staff. Amazing authentic south asian cuisine. I have recently moved to the UK and have been looking for authentic south Asian food that tastes like the food at home. Tried several places but no avail. Having visited Derby, a friend recommended this place and there I was. The food tastes exactly like that at home, the staff is super nice and responsive, they were kind enough to offer an extra item in addition to the buffet for my kid under 5 years of age. Buffet for kids under 5 was free too.

From the moment that you walk in, the restaurant is very clean and the deco is elegant and cosy. The staff go above and beyond in ensuring that you have the best possible experience. A special thanks to the chef who made the effort to meet us and was pleased to hear so many compliments from me and my friends about the amazing food that he had prepared for us. What a pleasant surprise to visit a local restaurant with great ambience and a vibrant atmosphere. Overall great experience with the staff, food, customer service and the layout of the restaurant (spacious and family friendly booths!!). I would definitely recommend the Badshah Mixed Grill Platter which had variety of great tasting starters (the portion is very generous). Awesome food and fantastic service! I have been in with different sets of friends and every time come out very satisfied. The Tawa for 4 and 5 is deceiving, you think you can easily it all but trust me it's tough. They also do a uniquely nice Mango Lassi, definitely recommend that with your food. All in all if you want a mix of currys desi style (or mild) with all on a sharing plate then this is the place to go! Its reasonably priced and that doesnt impact quality, as its top notch!

I visited Tarka whilst visiting my in-laws in Derby. I have to say the food is exceptional. The meats were tender, flavourful and the spices were not watered down to suit western tongues. The chicken jalfrezi that we ordered had just the right amount of spices and flavour. The mocktails were also on point and so refreshing. I will be visiting Tarka again when I return to Derby to visit. Great new Derby restaurant, treads a fine line between the overpriced fine dining elsewhere on this road and the more authentic offerings on the Normanton Road side of Derby. Absolutely nails it with an impressive interior, friendly staff and above all fantastic food. The traditional curries are there but after the tasty free poppadoms, I'd recommend the Karahi - it's truly brilliant with a light freshly cooked sauce and plenty of fresh herbs and ginger, amazing value for the amount you get. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back.

Visited on their opening day and was not disappointed. Greeted by the manager who was very helpful and found us a nice table (group of 9). The decor is elegant and the restaurant has a serene ambience. Despite it being their first day, they looked very organised. The waiter was excellent, the best waiter in regards to customer service. He made all our party feel comfortable and provided vital information about the menu. Which had a great selection go dishes from grills to a range of curries. There was something for all tastes, vegetarian and meat eaters. We had a very large grill, which had a lot of meat and several different types of delicacies from several different types of chicken tikka to seekh kebabs, lamb chops, fish and chicken wings. The mojitos were also very tasty and not too sweet. For the mains we had a variety of curries, which were all had their own unique taste and were catered to our taste. They give you an option of how strong you want the spices, which is very helpful. The nans were also very nice and not like other places where they are dry and flat. They have an extensive of freshly made desserts available from cheesecake, lemon meringue and so on. Over all and excellent place for friends, families or individuals. Will become a regular eatery.

A large selection available, prices are quite high, but totally reflected in the quality of the fresh food provided. The portions are plenty and therefore you can take some home. Taste is definitely authentic with the use of Pakistani spices. Very delicious and surpassing of what we thought it would be like. The decor is comfortable with traditional realia displayed. The staff were super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We can thoroughly recommend the sharing platter called a doha I think it's called. I have just eaten at this place. The service was quick, I ordered a tawa for 3-4 people. The grilled chicken was nice, seekh kebabs were average, the chips looked freshly made, pakoras were okay. The lamb and chicken curries were like home made curries. The drink prices were extortionate, £3 for a glass of Rubicon Mango, £5 for a 1.25l bottle of coke and £5 for a jug of mango lassi. The owner and staff were friendly, food was served quickly. The sink area in the men's toilet was covered in water and soap. Overall it was average at best, but the menu is very limited and there were very little on the desserts menu, everything was basically ice cream or a side with ice cream.

Great family restaurant which is completely alcohol free. Nice friendly environment and delicious food with some nice desserts to keep the kids happy :-) We had to wait a bit for the main course which we didn't mind so much as the waiter explained the food would take a bit longer as it was freshly prepared and served in the unique tawa style.
