Reviews of Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour & Tearoom

Lovely cafe with plenty of parking right next to the castle.
Great selection of food, drink and icecream. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
H. B.
Lovely little family run ice cream Parlour. A wide range of flavours and a good choice of food and hot drinks.
A little play area with a good range of play equipment (swings, slides, play house, see-saw, even a wooden castle!).
Plenty of benches to sit at.
You can even see the baby cows over the stable style doors in the summer months in the nearby the barns.
Close to Brough castle too.
A. H.
Small ice cream parlour immediately below a medieval castle ruin. When we could hear the cows from next to the shop we had an idea of what to expect; fresh Yorkshire ice cream is always an immense treat and this was no exception. Also very good coffee.
D. H.
A fantastic little ice cream parlour and tea room just off the A66 in Brough.
We stopped on our way to Scotland and it was brilliant. The staff are extremely friendly and the parlour has a nice welcoming feel to it.
The food is good too. Nice and simple and just what you need on a long journey.
The Brough castle ruins make a nice back drop whilst you have a cuppa too and there's direct access to the castle if you want to stretch your legs before moving on.
Would recommend stopping here to anyone. Lovely little place

Food is expensive in relation to quality. Drink can was served warm and no glass/ice available. Signs plastered everywhere around the site, made you feel a little unwelcome. Probably wouldn't return.
M. B.
Lovely friendly service, nice ice creams / coffee. Reasonably priced, beautiful views of the castle & surrounding areas
F. W.
A welcome pit stop for weary travellers. Kids happy - playground and ice cream. Grown ups happy - right by the castle with lovely scenery and food
E. S.
Fantastic ice cream, good selection of flavors and reasonable price (£4 for two scoops). Savory food nothing special (we had two paninis).
M. B.
Visited a few times ,a wonderful place to have a sandwich or an ice-cream , fantastic settings in the grounds of Brough castle
j. b.
Friendly welcome and a yummy toasted sandwich on a grey March day, reasonably priced and worth a visit for the setting alone

Brough Castle Ice Cream Parlour sits beside Brough Castle.
The parlour is a gem. It has a real homely atmosphere.
The staff are very helpful and aim to please. The menu is quite extensive, a very good choice of food is available. The range of ice cream is equally as extensive.
The prices are in line with what you would expect to pay. Our first visit was awkward, with parking not being clearly indicated.
Our next visit will be a lot easier knowing the lie of the land sort of speak. We parked on the main village road which was only a few minutes from the Cafe. The outdoor seating area has a small playground adjacent. It also looks onto the Castle. All in all, it will become a regular stop for us along the A66.

A gem of a place to stop along the A66. Coffee, cake and/or ice cream all lovely (particularly the wide range of ice creams).
P. M.
Very nice ice cream and surroundings but very expensive. Only visited once would have returned several times if better value.

No photos are necessary. Like the village it’s a part of the parlour is just nice and plain and simple. No frippery. Nothing fanciful at all. No fancy, expensive crockery, tablecloth’s or chairs. No team of staff. Just one friendly, lovely woman in her kitchen making good tasty snacks and drink for the customers sat at a table on comfortable chairs. My brie, cranberry and bacon panini was to die for and my ice cream after my girlfriend and I did the castle was both cooling and heavenly. I had a lovely time and I hope to go again.

Fantastic home made ice cream and tea room in the grounds of an underrated medieval castle. We'll worth a visit.

One of the top ten ice creams I have ever tasted in 40+ years, right up there with the best Italians have to offer (including award winners). This family makes their own ice cream using milk from their own herd next door, it doesn't get lower carbon footprint than this. And you can savour it while musing over the ruins of Brough castle.

Had a lovely blueberry scone and cup of tea. Nice outside area with a small play area for little ones. Got ice cream to take away with us.
H.
Wow what a find! The most delicious ice cream we’ve ever had. The lady serving us was so friendly and we had a lovely chat about this and that (as you do).
Would highly recommend Sarah’s Fudge and the ginger ice cream and my mum loved her chocolate sundae. I would recommend to anyone and will 100% back when in the area again.
And regarding the previous comment about it being too quiet in there, it’s an ice cream parlour not a nightclub and the quiet atmosphere just adds to the surroundings/views of the castle.
Thank you!

Great food, good prices and a fantastic playground for small kids
P. S.
Popped in last week , the ice cream was so beautiful. Just too quiet sat in the tea room, felt a little bit uncomfortable and no lights on, some nice music might have made it feel a little more welcoming, other than that lovely ice cream and friendly staff. The castle was brill too.
D. T.
Great ice creams with excellent selection. Fruit scones amazing so get there early while fresh.Friendly staff and children made very welcome. Highly recommended.
J. H.
We stumbled upon this little gem whilst visiting the castle. Lovely, lovely ice cream. Warm and friendly service. Clean toilets with changing facilities for children and a little extra character! The menu had some nice snacks like toasties as well as a good selection of hot and cold drinks. Very reasonably priced. We will be back.

I had a Ferrari rocher ice cream, little did I know entire nuts were in the ice cream🤢, I also bought myself a small bottle of water, costing me £1.40?! What a rip off, the castle itself however is stunning with many grand views of the nearby fields and hills …

Perfect lunch stop or rest stop. Children’s play area, walking path to Brough Castle ruins, scenic views. Indoor and outdoor seating and toilet.
M. F.
Best Scones in Britain. Lovely, friendly little place. Perfect rest stop, with a short walk to the castle next door.

Amazing range of ice cream. Easy access for a cuppa stop off the A66
R. B.
This is a lovely little cafe where you can have a stop to have lunch and/or have tasty icecream. It is all handmade with fresh products from the farm nearby. It lies right next to Brough castle and has lovely surroundings. For the smaller kids there is a little playground.
S. E.
Food great and love the outside play area and it's right in front of the castle. Staff have been lovely when we have visited and also it's location is so easy to get to from the A66. Sometimes at very busy times parking is an issue but there are spaces on the street just outside.

A gem of a place. Serving delicious tea, coffee and cakes. And you must try their ice-cream before you leave. A worthy stop for refreshment after a visit to the ancient, ruined castle.

When you read about Brough Castle, the Ice Cream farm is mentioned. However, I feel that it´s not because of his fame, it´s because there is nothing more nearby. I try some ice creams and there where nice. You can notice that are homemade and creamy. The service was really nice also. However, there are not good enough for me to stop by again if I´m nearby
H. P.
Amazing ice cream and lovely play area for the kids!!! Come here every time I'm in the area. The castle alongside it never fails to amaze me and the family.

Lovely place to stop away from the traffic, have a meander around the castle and enjoy a nibble, a refreshing cuppa and some tasty ice cream.
D. B.
A lovely tea room with a great range of ice creams. There is a good children's play area all on the doorstep of the castle.

Lovely ice cream and friendly people, it was a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be, and had only one toilet there was a queue for.
